DR Congo public vote in tense, long-delayed presidential election - Duration: 1:44.
People in the Democratic Republic of Congo have voted for a new president in an election
mired by delays and violence.
For more on this and other news around the world we turn to our Ro Aram…
Aram… what's the latest?
Well Mark…
The vote itself was already two years late due to political turmoil and logistical problems.
The same issue arose on Election Day.
Things started slowly as heavy rain in the capital, Kinshasa, forced many people to stay
home.
Those who went to vote had to wait for hours as many polling stations were not ready to
open.
One of the reasons for the delay was a failure to install new electronic voting machines.
These devices themselves have come under scrutiny for possibly being able to rig elections results.
Polls officially closed at 5 p.m. on Sunday, local time, but those still waiting in line
were allowed to vote.
Meanwhile, there were isolated pockets of violence.
A policeman and a civilian were killed in an altercation after voters accused an election
official of voter fraud.
The officer fatally shot the young man involved in the melee and the crowd then beat the officer
to death.
The long-awaited vote marks an end to President Joseph Kabila's 17 years in power.
Despite the frustrations of the chaotic preparations for Sunday's vote, the Congolese people are
hoping that the new president will bring about stability in a nation plagued by authoritarian
rule and civil wars.
The final result is expected be announced in a week's time.

Wage theft epidemic: Staff miss public holiday payday despite surcharge - Duration: 6:22.
Cafes and restaurants underpaying staff while hitting customers with a public holiday surcharge is "not a rare thing, it's a relatively common thing," a hospitality veteran says
From being chef to bartending and managing, 30-year-old Melburnian Harry Connor has worked for an estimated 100 employers over a 15-year career in the hospitality industry
It has become common practice for cafes and restaurants to levy a surcharge on weekends and public holidays, a fee that most commonly ranges from 10 to 20 per cent, to help balance out penalty rates
However, businesses must adhere to guidelines set by the consumer watchdog. "Restaurants, cafes and bistros that charge a surcharge on certain days do not need to provide a separate menu or price list or have a separate price column with the surcharge factored in," the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission ruled
"However, the menu must include the words 'a surcharge of [percentage] applies on [the specified day or days]' and these words must be displayed at least as prominently as the most prominent price on the menu
" Whether or not that surcharge is going towards fairly compensating staff, however, is rarely as clear
Underpayment of workers – or wage theft – is "an epidemic" in the hospitality industry according to Ben Redford, assistant branch secretary at United Voice Victoria
"Employers are getting rich by gaming the system. They know the chances of getting caught are remote and the worst they have to fear is being forced to pay back stolen wages," Mr Redford said
"At least a fifth of young workers have reported that their hard-earned wages have been stolen from them in scams
They are paid for fewer hours than they work, are illegally denied correct pay, have their superannuation stolen or their accrued leave withheld
" Under the hospitality industry award full and part-time employees are entitled to $43
81 an hour on public holidays, while casual hospitality employees are owed $48.68 an hour
"We were being paid a flat rate below the award rate on the two public holidays. I was getting paid around $23 to $24, and other people were getting paid $17 or $18," Mr Connor said
"[The owners] were charging a 10 per cent surcharge, and I thought it was outrageous, because who was pocketing that money?" Hospitality workers who give up their public holidays to serve others deserve to be fairly compensated, Mr Connor said
"For people to sacrifice these days for the community so that others can go out and party and drink and eat really nice food, society should hold that in higher esteem," he said
"It's a bit of a shame that hospitality workers lose those days and, in eight out of 10 cases, don't get rewarded
" Mr Connor now volunteers much of his spare time to campaigning against wage theft in the hospitality industry for a new online, member-run union for hospitality workers, Hospo Voice
For Mr Connor, simply finding an employer in the industry willing to pay award rates was a battle
"After getting sacked by two different employers for querying bad conditions I've finally found one that treats me well and pays me properly," he said
Now an assistant manager at Squires Loft Cheltenham, Mr Connor understands first-hand that managers and employers need staff that are available to work unfriendly hours, but says "it's got to be a two-way street"
His current workplace is a "good testament to the industry", and proves that businesses can treat their employees fairly while being successful
"We've employed over a thousand people in the last 10 years. It's all above board and we're thriving," he said
"If we can do it and pay everyone properly, anyone can do it." If a cafe or restaurant can't afford to pay staff properly on public holidays the "smartest thing" for the business to do is to close on those days and give staff some much-needed time off, Mr Connor said

What Attracts You To The Opposite Sex? |Public Interview| Street Quiz! - Duration: 6:39.
What's up YouTube? We back with another team, you know the deal...
So I am going to ask these people what their names are.. first of all...
I'm Harrison...
Yeah i'm Denise
Where are you coming from? Achimota
How about you? i'm fine where are you coming from?
I'm coming from Achimota...
So what we want to find out Today is we want to really find out what attracts you to the opposite sex?
other people? yeah...their personality..
and their attitude, how they come to you
how about you?
their movement, character and everything...
So like for example, how I approached you, was it a cool personality, or?
nah, yeah it was a cool personality... like you have a good personality...
You were not rude, you are cool
first of all tell them what your name is... Joseph
I'm Ern...huh? Ern
where are you coming from?
I'm coming from Dome
the same thing Dome
so the question for tonight is we really want to know...
what attracts you to the opposite sex?
what attracts me to the opposites sex? yes!
hmm...the question seems a bit..
what attracts me to the opposite sex?
Opposite sex..? like a girl, or?
okay, I will say is the hair..
the hair...how about you?
i will say the smile...
the lips
oh i see...
what kind of hair are you attracted to, black, brown or?
i like the natural hair...
yeah, the natural one...
how about you? i don't really have a preference everything goes for me...

well *laughter*
this is serious...haha
this is serious!
yeah, it is a serious question...we really want to know
what attracts people to the opposite sex
we...ehm
before the person attracts me
well it depends on how the person approaches me
or another person
his speech...
the first reaction from him....okay
so really color does not matter?
not at all...
so if a guy walks to you what really matters you is
the first thing he says...how he approaches me
how I approached you...how will judge that?
oh it is fine...it is cool
it wouldn't get me furious...ah okay....
so the question for Today is a simple question..
we want to find out
what atttracts you to the opposite sex?
*laughter*
what attracts you to the opposite sex?
erm...
who wants to go first?
so what really attracts you to the opposite sex?
actually how the person carries herself
sorry...how she carries herself..how she carries herself
yeah
the dressing..
the she walks and the way she talks...
so the dressing and the way she talks...? yeah
so like if she dress nicely and
she talks nicely you attracted to her...? yes!
so that is the first thing you are attracted to?
how about you?
the person's character...
eei...how can tell a person's character?
yeah because...erm
when you meet someone for the first time, the person's first impression
tells you about the person
so i think the person character...
How about you? okay
the appearance, the way you're dress...
and erm...
erm
the way you talk...
talking about dressing...
how I dress it the kind of person you are talking about...?
No!! *Laughter*
you too...you were talking about character...
Do I have that character?
I did not meet you personally?
we have met now..didn't we?
yeah...but like one-on-one..
eeh..I see..
first of all what your name is? Emmanuel
Emmanuel
what's your name?
Bella...ah are you a fulani? no...
Bella sounds like a fulani name...
so the question is what really attracts you to the opposite sex?
ah..why that question *laughter*
he said why that question...lol
like we want to know what really attracts you to the opposite sex

Bespoke public artwork unveiled at Shiregreen housing scheme - Duration: 1:32.
The boulder itself is it was part of the planning conditions when we
originally built Sycamore Heights. We work closely with Sheffield Council, we've
selected a stonemason in partnership with the council, and also we've used a
local poet to come up with the poem that that relates to the Sycamore
Height scheme. The aim of the bowler is to hopefully be a bit of a
meeting point maybe for the residents to come sit and chat in the summer.
We've got Gill Furniss MP coming this morning to officially open it. I just
think it's absolutely fantastic that we've got you know, the commitment from
Sanctuary, to come into our estates and really make the improvements that
Sanctuary is doing because it's very necessary. I mean I've been talking to
residents today, I think this is what's really impressive about this project
is that you've not just tried to cram in as many as you possibly can in the land
it's had a lot of thought put into it, about what communities need. It's really,
really important to celebrate developments and it's a milestones, such
as having the public art put in, because these are special places. It's so important
that we listen, have that interaction and act on what we hear. A lot of the time it
can enable people to do things for themselves and I think that's what
housing associations are all about. We want happy residents, we want them to feel
involved in shaping their place for the future.

Gov't strengthens regulations on public servant use of state funds - Duration: 0:37.
The government plans to strengthen its regulations and guidelines on how public servants use
government finances in carrying out their work.
Starting next year, the Ministry of Economy and Finance will ask for specific documentation
when public funds are used outside of working hours -- including holidays and weekends -- as
well as when bills are presented from pubs or bars.
It will also require the accounting and audit teams of each ministry to step up their monitoring
of expenses at least once a month.
The Finance ministry will work to come up with additional measures next year to prevent
the misuse of public funds.
