Are you ready for this?
This one's hard.
This is where the rubber meets the road.
Yeah.
Hi I'm Xakota I'm 25.
I Melissa and I'm 35.
Hi I'm Marian
and I'm 61 years old.
I'm Susan and I'm 51 years old
How about that.
A decade apart.
What's your favorite thing about
your body?
Legs.
I have good legs.
I got them from my mom.
I hate to say this but I would probably say legs
too. Let's see.
Let's see them.
Woo hoo.
I really like my teeth.
Which is--I'll show my
teeth.
Oh,
I suppose my hands.
You did look at your hands.
Did I? Yeah.
You know why my mother always
loved my hands.
Why?
I don't know.
Did they look like hers?
Maybe. That's,
that's what I have for you.
I'm not in love with my body right now.
Not in love with it.
What are your thoughts on body hair?
I inherited too much body hair.
Just wait.
You hit 50 and it's like...
The pressure to not have body
hair is one of those societal constructs that I
really like darted in
and out of subscribing to
and not subscribing to.
And then it becomes you know like oh well
if you shave your legs then you're just like feeding
into like the male gaze
and heteronormative standards
and I totally believe
all of that. But then at the same time
maybe I just kind of like shaving my legs.
Like I don't understand the expectation
that women wax
their pubic hair.
Have you ever done it?
I haven't done it.
It hurts.
I--right.
I assume it would hurt a lot.
I will agree with you that
body hair makes me feel less feminine
as well.
I have a friend who has the most beautiful
armpit hair and I have tried to grow it like six
times to be just like her.
I think she looks so cool and female.
This is going to be a long answer
There were actually certain sports
that I didn't do because I,
I was told that that would affect how
I would look. I rock climb.
It has changed my body.
But when I now think about how
my body looks versus what I can do
with my body like there's just there's
no question.
That sounds like so empowering.
My height.
Instead of letting it be something that I'm insecure
about or trying kind of like make my
body smaller which
I spent my entire adolescence doing,
is something I just kind of like embrace.
I'm on the opposite end,
because I'm four foot nine.
But over the years I've been more grateful
for my height.
Just last week I was on a 14
hour flight from Tokyo
to New York. I can extend my legs
all the way underneath without a
problem in the smallest seat.
As you get older you know you love
yourself more. Yeah I think that's totally true.
What about men having body hair?
Oh they're men they have body hair.
You know a guy has
got so much hair.
It's like oh my god.
I've got to
wade through this.
That's not that appealing.
