Hostage threats to Cardiff hotel that sparked mass evacuation was hoax - Breaking News 247 - Duration: 2:30.

 Hostage threats made to a Cardiff hotel which shut down a large part of the city were found to be a hoax, police said

 South Wales Police closed a large section of St Mary's Street and told the public to evacuate the area earlier this afternoon

 The force received information "threats had been made to people in a city centre hotel"

 Wales Online newsroom, located close to the cordoned area, also received a phone call from someone claiming to be from banned far-right group National Action saying he had "hostages" in a city centre hotel and was going to "kill people"

   Chief Inspector Joe Jones said there was a single incident at a hotel and there was "no cause for panic"

  Nobody was hurt during the incident and police are treating it as a hoax, reports Wales Online

 The evacuated area covered most of the St Mary's Street and also affected some side streets, including Wharton Street and Golate Street were also closed off, as was Morgan Arcade

 Staff were evacuated from the shops in that section of the street and people living in flats on the street were also ordered to leave their home

 The incident closed the road from around 3.15pm to around 7.15pm.  A police statement said: "A cordon which was in place for several hours following an incident in Cardiff city centre this afternoon, has now been lifted

   "At approximately 3.15pm South Wales Police received a report of an ongoing incident at a hotel on St Mary Street

 "Staff and residents, as well as occupants of neighbouring buildings, were evacuated as a precaution

No-one was injured.  "The public are thanked for their cooperation and assistance

Officers have now been stood down from the scene following a thorough search of the area, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the source of the report to police
