Hotel Review #041 - Hampton Inn & Suites - Pensacola/Gulf Breeze - Duration: 10:01.

Welcome back to 504 Road Trips! We took a trip out to Gulf Breeze

Florida, a well-known hot spot for UFO activity, and we stayed at the Hampton

Inn and Suites. The UFO watch party was a bust, but wait till you see what we

captured on camera while looking out of our hotel room window! Here's our tour.

So this is our room. We booked a standard King Room, and when we checked

in, I asked if they had any available upgrades, since we get that as Gold

Members of Hilton Honors, and they gave us a Studio Suite. So we've done Studio

Suites at Hampton Inns before, and they're not all the same. I actually

like the way this one's laid out. So we're gonna give a tour of this room, and

we're gonna start with the basic safety features as always. We have the peephole,

we have the exit map, and we're here on the second floor. Normally we get a top floor

room, but apparently there was nothing available on the third or fourth floor.

But so far it's been quiet...we've just been here for a few minutes. Maximum

room rate of $399...we paid about a quarter of that...and checkout time is 11:00 a.m.

"IF YOU DETECT SMOKE OR FIRE, DIAL 911 ALARM SOUNDS LIKE A LOUD SIREN"

...which is what you would expect. There's a safety latch on the door,

mechanical deadbolt, and then right inside the door, we have a wet bar.

Giant mirror over the wet bar. So here at the wet bar we have and cold running water.

We have an ice bucket and a couple of cups. Coffee maker that's not in the

bathroom, which is always a good thing. Down here we have a fridge which is

stocked with Gatorade and iced tea. We have a small microwave, which is a little wobbly.

And no time set on the microwave. Down below the microwave, a couple of empty drawers,

and we have a cabinet under the sink which hides the plumbing. Nothing in there.

So moving on to the little living area, we have a large pull-out couch, big footrest.

This is the air conditioning unit over here in the window, and the air

conditioner is controlled by this thermostat here on the wall.

The lamp here has two power outlets,

three-and-a-half amp and, on the side is an Ethernet port although there's no

Ethernet cable connected to it. I don't know whether they run Ethernet through

the through the power cables--which I know there's a way to do that.

I've never experienced it.

Another lamp over here. Another power outlet down here on the floor...or you

know, on the wall. In the middle of the room we have a television, and the

television is on a mount that swivels so you can watch from bed or watch from the

couch. But not both. They have this big desk area here and this is one of the

unique things about this room. this lamp has two power outlets on it and also has

the ethernet port on it, and I guess the cable comes from underneath. A few

drawers here.......we have a table on each side of the desk...I mean...sorry a CHAIR

on each side of the desk. Over here, we have three more drawers. And I

guess this is the dresser because there is no there's no dresser in this room.

Over here we have more power outlets, so we have a total of five power outlets, a

phone--that's another Ethernet port there next to the phone jack, television remote

control...

Yeah I guess that is the dresser because there's no a dresser in this room but

there's plenty of space if you're gonna put stuff in the drawer

meaning you're probably gonna leave stuff in the drawers, and you'll wonder

where it is when you get home. We have a Bible in this drawer, no phone book. The

bedside lamps have one power outlet. There's a clock radio. I don't know why

they don't put two outlets on the lamps by the bed. And we have another telephone

here. Nice artwork of a bicycle on the wall. And then we have a bathroom area,

and in the bathroom area we have a vanity with a box of Kleenex, towel rack,

more places to plug in. Neutrogena French milled soap, and all the Neutrogena line...

a body lotion, shampoo, conditioner and mouthwash, and some bath soap and a

makeup remover wipe. We have hot and cold running water at the sink. And this right here is

a closet. Of course, we've got a bunch of stuff in the closet here, but it's a

pretty big closet we have some hangers here, laundry bag, and that's an iron up

there. Extra bedding, ironing board and a luggage rack.

finally we have the bathroom, and it's a small bathroom since all that it has is the

toilet and the tub. We have a Sterling toilet. We have towels here. Three big bath towels,

extra roll of toilet paper, and some more hand towels and washcloths. And just a

regular tub and shower. And we have the curved shower curtain rod and it seems

to be installed properly. And we gotta check out the showerhead...forgot to do

that in our last hotel tour. And it's a shower massage type...well, it's Water Pik.

And it's got several different settings.

So we have the valve here...the thing you pull up, and water comes out the shower.

And it kind of works. That doesn't really work the way it's supposed to.

but for a normal shower, it's actually got good flow.

So that's the room and then the view outside is this...

I always bump into the window.

S o let's take a look at what this looks like with some lights on.

So this is the view in the daylight, and we don't have much of a view, but from what I understand

the Gulf is on the other side of those trees. It's just that we can't see

it because the trees are in the way. So that's it for the view.

A Hotel Renovation Project In Hoi An With District1architects - Duration: 4:27.

As an ancient town, Hoi An has a unique, long-established culture,

especially its architecture.

Because of the annual monsoon season and heavy storms

architecture here has had to adapt to variations in the climate and weather.

Signature features include Ying Yang clay roof tiles

and heavy timber frames

covered entirely by whitewashed wall bricks, which makes them easier to clean.

Another thing is the use of traditional handcrafted construction techniques

Perhaps that's what gives Hoi An its rustic, charming atmosphere.

And I want my project to elicit those same feelings.

Tan Nguyen from District1architects on Hoi An Trails renovation project

In fact, the original Hoi An Trails looks very old as it was built 10 years ago.

There are 7 areas in total, all facing onto a large yard.

Look at the interiors. You can tell they were old, but well-made

however, since they have been covered by a thick layer of black paint

it's hard to feel the spirit of wood craftsmanship.

There are a lot of open windows

but there are also many grilles

The functionality of the inside space leads to a lack of privacy

That's why they're always closed

so there's no real connection between the outside and the inside.

Because of that, I want to add more layers into this space.

First, it helps to make it look visually more exciting.

When I visited old houses in Hoi An, I noticed there are often many rooms.

That feature can excite both our customers living here and their guests who are visiting.

Old houses in Hoi An have living rooms to welcome guests, courtyards, kitchens, and bedrooms.

There are both private and social spaces.

I want the same in this space.

There are bedrooms, restrooms and even outdoor bath

surrounded by gardens with the bathtub in the middle.

Instead of walls, we only use bamboo partitions and plant pots as dividers.

That makes the space both private and open.

I want to bring arched spaces into this project.

Those arched spaces interlace and create other arched windows.

That's the image I want to present over and over again.

I want the living space and the corridor to be reminiscent of an ancient house in Hoi An

reimagined in a new construction.

It's both ancient and modern in a new, special way.

In this construction, I utilize and combine the work of local traditional craft villages.

It's given me the chance to understand more about these craft villages.

Although they are still producing. But their growth is limited and might go out soon.

I think a designer's role is not only design good-looking products

but it should also connect the craftsmen to the architect and the investor

in order to help support their crafts.

I think this connection is really important.

The craftsmen are also the spirit of Hoi An

Since Hoi An was established a long time ago, those craft villages are really the foundation of ancient Hoi An.

The craftsmen are the ones who can conjure up the soul of Hoi An.

I want to utilize some products from the stone carving village

such as carved stone tubs which give great aesthetic pleasure and are also high-quality.

Another one is carpentry

In this space, all the furniture—from desks, chairs, doors, and beds— are made by highly-skilled carpenters

They are the ones who breathe life into this furniture,

then the customers can feel the soul of Hoi An too.

Ivanka Trump was involved in negotiations between Trump International Hotel and inaugural committee - Duration: 5:53.

Ivanka Trump was involved in negotiations between Trump International Hotel and inaugural committee

Leaked emails have linked Ivanka Trump to negotiations between the Trump Organization and the presidential inaugural committee, which paid to use the Trump International Hotel in Washington DC.

The negotiations, which saw the Trump Organization take a slice of the inaugurals record-busting $107 million in donated funds, took place in mid-December of 2016, a new investigation by WNYC and ProPublica reveals.

The revelation comes as federal prosecutors probe the finances of President Donald Trumps inaugural committee and whether foreigners contributed to its events using straw donors.

A spokeswoman for the inaugural committee said its finances were fully audited internally and independently and are fully accounted. … These were funds raised from private individuals and were then spent in accordance with the law and the expectations of the donors.

Ivanka Trumps role in the inaugural planning negotiations was previously unknown.

At the time, she was an executive vice president at the Trump Organization. After Trump took office, she left the company to serve as a senior advisor in the White House.

Prior to Trumps inauguration, massive donations flowed into his inaugural fund, which pays for the events and festivities surrounding the swearing-in ceremony.

The $107 million raised was almost double President Obamas 2009 inauguration, which was the most expensive in history at the time. At least some of the money went to the Trump Organization.

The newly leaked emails show that Ivanka Trump, the presidents eldest daughter, was involved in negotiating the prices Trump International Hotel charged the inauguration.

In one email, a top inauguration planner, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, emailed Ivanka Trump and inaugural committee deputy chairman Rick Gates expressing concern that the hotel was overcharging them and worry about public reaction when this is audited.

She asked that the price of renting a ballroom and meeting rooms for four days be further lowered from $175,000 per day to $85,000 per day, after hotel proposed a reduction to the $175,000 rate.

Its not clear what the original proposed fee or the final agreed price were from the leaked emails.

If the Trump Organization were found to have charged the inaugural committee above market rates for the rental, it could trigger heavy fines from the IRS.

Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for Abbe Lowell, Ivanka Trumps ethics lawyers, said the first daughters role was minimal.

When contacted by someone working on the inauguration, Ms. Trump passed the inquiry on to a hotel official and said only that any resulting discussions should be at a fair market rate, he said in a statement. Ms. Trump was not involved in any additional discussions.

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley was asked by reporters Friday prior to the ProPublicaWNYC report if there were any improprieties with the inauguration funding.

The president of the United States has one job at the inauguration. Its to show up, to thank everyone for the service to get him elected, and then also dance with the first lady, Gidley said in response. He did all of those things. This charge has nothing to do with the president of the United States, and it has nothing to do with this administration.

The White House did not immediately respond to a subsequent request for comment.

Separately, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that prosecutors in New York are investigating whether some of the committees donors made contributions in exchange for political favors and access to the Trump administration- a potential violation of federal corruption laws.

The inquiry, which the newspaper said is in its early stages, is also focused on whether the inauguration committee misspent some of the $107 million it raised to stage events celebrating Trumps inauguration.

As well, the New York Times reported that prosecutors are examining whether people from Qatar, Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries made illegal payments to the committee and a pro-Trump super political action committee in a bid to influence American policy. Foreign contributions to inaugural funds and PACs are prohibited under federal law.

Both newspapers cited anonymous sources familiar with the inquiry.

The U.S. attorneys office in Manhattan did not respond to a request for comment Friday.

The inaugural committee said it has not been contacted by federal prosecutors and is not aware of any investigations.

The committee staged a celebration of our democratic processes and did so in full compliance with all applicable laws and disclosure obligations, it said Friday in a statement.

The inaugurations accounting was provided both to the Federal Election Commission and the IRS in compliance with all laws and regulations, it said. These were funds raised from private individuals and were then spent in accordance with the law and the expectations of the donors.

It added that the names of donors were given to the election commission and have been public for nearly two years. It said the donors were vetted and no improprieties were found.

It comes as Ivankas husband Jared Kushner faces scrutiny as well, after it was claimed that he was the primary point of contact between Donald Trump and National Enquirer boss David Pecker after the 2016 presidential election.

Kushners role, reported by the Daily Beast, is gaining exposure just as Peckers participation in a catch-and-kill arrangement to bury negative stories about Trump is being examined as a potential criminal liability for the president.
