Ryan Zinke wont be missed The Washington Post

Opinion Interpretation of the news based on evidence, including data, as well as anticipating how events might unfold based on past events

SOME IN Washington were relieved when President Trump announced he would nominate Ryan Zinke as interior secretary. Mr. Zinke did not favor selling off or giving away the federal governments vast land holdings in the Western United States, a vein of right wing extremism to which Mr. Trump might have been thought susceptible. Mr. Zinke was a congressman from Montana, a place with a history of mining and drilling but also reverence for spectacular natural features. That much was known. His clumsy arrogance was less visible.

Now, after less than two years, under an ethical cloud. His policy legacy is that of an aggressive opponent of environmental stewardship. No one who values Americas outdoor heritage will regret his departure.

His Interior Department has broken new ground in hostility toward land conservation, in southern Utah, Grand Staircase Escalante and Bears Ears. These spectacular, irreplaceable landscapes were taken out of the conservation pipeline that had developed since the , in which precious areas begin as national monuments and eventually obtain higher levels of protection. One can only hope that this pipeline is not permanently damaged.

Mr. Zinke oversaw a push to fast track drilling on public lands and withdraw Obama era climate rules on methane emissions from oil and gas production. Interior justified the rollback by aggressively discounting the importance of future climate problems. These moves vastly outweighed small steps to enhance environmental protection.

Still untold is the damage Mr. Zinke did in recruiting and retaining the experts the Interior Department needs.

Then there were the . A sketchy Montana land deal raised eyebrows — and to the . Questions swirled after Mr. Zinke held up approval of a tribal casino in Connecticut, following with MGM Resorts International officials who would have had to compete with it. Mr. Zinke was one of several Trump Cabinet members whose expensive travel habits and interactions with political contributors got him in trouble. He now joins former Environmental Protection Agency administrator and former veterans affairs secretary in early exit from the Cabinet.

Perhaps no episode better expresses Mr. Zinkes contempt for the public than the cynical show he put on around his offshore drilling plan. The Trump administration moved to open the coastlines to drilling, even off states that strongly object. But Mr. Zinke flew to Tallahassee to from the rule. The transparent motive was to help Mr. Scott in his Senate race in a state deeply opposed to offshore drilling. No other governor got such special treatment, because Mr. Zinke did not feel compelled to treat everyone else as well as a Republican who could use the political favor.

In the Trump era, there is always concern that the next appointment will be worse. It would have to be execrable to create any nostalgia for the Zinke era.

Spine. So Maria, tell us how far along you are and how you been feeling. I'm at 34

and a half weeks, and I've been feeling pretty good actually surprisingly for 34

and a half weeks feeling pretty strong. Great! Do you know the sex? it's a girl

Yay! Is it your first? Yeah it's my first one. Oh awesome.

So um what type of pain or discomfort if at all have you been feeling, you're

getting close. I'm getting close. I was having lower back pain and that's the

reason I came in mainly I was having kinda little twinges of pain in my lower

back so my doctor suggested coming here actually I think they have sent other

patients here in the past. That's awesome. So what has been the best part of your

treatment or what has helped the most and yeah. I think all of it actually the

adjustments helped a lot those kind of helped with the real sharp little

pinches of pain and then the strengthening and the stretching has

really helped just with kind of everyday tasks and made me stronger and less pain

in my daily daily life. That's great. Has there been any pain or has it been very

gentle or has it been scary? It has actually and that's one thing I will say

is I was I was really scared to get physical therapy because I thought it's

gonna be rough you know when you're pregnant you're not supposed to work out

and those are just total misconceptions because it really everyone was really

gentle with me and I was surprised how much everyone seemed to know about

pregnancy because I thought some of these big, buff, looking trainers would make me

go hard and they were super gentle and seemed to know a lot about your body

mechanics and especially how it pertains you know to pregnancy. That's great

I was impressed. We wish you the best of luck and a safe and easy delivery coming

On Twitter, Trump comes out swinging in many directions The Washington Post - Duration: 5:25.

On Twitter, Trump comes out swinging in many directions The Washington Post

President Trump lashed out Tuesday morning at threats from many directions, taking aim at the special counsels Russia inquiry, the Federal Reserve, social media companies and undocumented immigrants in tweets that spanned more than two hours.

Trumps Twitter tirade — which included some false and questionable claims — comes as he faces increasing peril from the investigation of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III and remains in a standoff with Democrats in Congress over funding for his long promised southern border wall that could prompt a partial government shutdown at midnight Friday.

Trump touched on both battles in his tweets — writing at one point that the whole Russian Witch Hunt is a Fraud and a Hoax which should be ended immediately — as well as several other events from recent days. He also took a shot at Crooked Hillary, a reference to Hillary Clinton, his Democratic rival in 2016.

The extended airing of grievances came just hours before Trumps former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, was scheduled to be sentenced for lying to the FBI about his dealings with the Russian ambassador to the United States — a development Trump acknowledged by wishing him good luck today in court.

Good luck today in court to General Michael Flynn. Will be interesting to see what he has to say, despite tremendous pressure being put on him, about Russian Collusion in our great and, obviously, highly successful political campaign. There was no Collusion!

Earlier, Trump wrote that the biggest outrage yet in the long, winding and highly conflicted Mueller Witch Hunt was the deletion of text messages between former FBI agent Peter Strzok and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, both of whom wrote negative things about him.

Trumps tweet seemed to be misstating a Justice Department inspector general report. The report, released last week, detailed broad problems in the FBIs retention of text messages and the extensive efforts of investigators to recover lost exchanges.

Biggest outrage yet in the long, winding and highly conflicted Mueller Witch Hunt is the fact that 19,000 demanded Text messages between Peter Strzok and his FBI lover, Lisa Page, were purposely illegally deleted. Would have explained whole Hoax, which is now under protest!

The report — contrary to an assertion by Trump that texts were purposely and illegally deleted — found no evidence that Strzok and Page had attempted to circumvent the FBIs data retention policies. The inspector general also wrote that content of the text messages did not appear to be a factor in whether and how they were retained.

The FBI has had a long running problem with an automated system to retain messages, and the inspector general highlighted technical glitches.

It is true that thousands of texts between Page and Strzok were once missing, but the inspector general recovered them, including a key exchange in which Strzok told Page well stop Trump from becoming president.

Those messages, though, already have been well publicized and helped shape another inspector general report blasting Strzok and Page for bias. Strzok was removed from the special counsel team, and eventually the FBI, because of the messages, and Page left separately.

The inspector general did note that investigators could not recover any texts from the phones assigned to the two FBI officials for their work with Mueller because by the time investigators requested the devices, they had been reset in preparation for others to use them. The president, though, has not seemed to key in on that — instead focusing on messages the inspector general recovered.

Facebook, Twitter and Google are so biased toward the Dems it is ridiculous! Twitter, in fact, has made it much more difficult for people to join . They have removed many names greatly slowed the level and speed of increase. They have acknowledged done NOTHING!

On the heels of a new report this week that detailed Russias efforts to use every major social media platform to help elect him in 2016, Trump also complained Tuesday that Facebook, Twitter and Google were working against him.

Without citing evidence, he said that Twitter has made it much more difficult for people to join @realDonaldTrump.

They have removed many names and greatly slowed the level and speed of increase. They have acknowledged done NOTHING! Trump wrote.

I hope the people over at the Fed will read todays Wall Street Journal Editorial before they make yet another mistake. Also, dont let the market become any more illiquid than it already is. Stop with the 50 Bs. Feel the market, dont just go by meaningless numbers. Good luck!

Trump also trained his ire on the Federal Reserve, where officials are widely expected to raise interest rates this week despite his public effort to dissuade the U.S. central bank from putting any brakes on the economy.

I hope the people over at the Fed will read todays Wall Street Journal Editorial before they make yet another mistake, Trump wrote, referring to a piece that advocated for a prudent pause in raising rates.

Illegal immigration costs the United States more than 200 Billion Dollars a year. How was this allowed to happen?

Trump later referred to the fight over the U.S. Mexico border wall, writing: Illegal immigration costs the United States more than 200 Billion Dollars a year. How was this allowed to happen?

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for Trumps source on the cost. In the past, he has cited numbers from the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which seeks to reduce legal and illegal immigration.

A report issued last year by the group pegged total spending by federal, state and local government on undocumented immigrants at dollar 134.9 billion. The report said that undocumented immigrants contribute nearly dollar 19 billion in taxes, meaning their net cost to the country is about dollar 116 billion.

Russia Dossier reporter now doubts dopey Christopher Steeles claims! When you get into the details of the Steele Dossier, the specific allegations, we have not seen the evidence to support them. Theres good grounds to think that some of the more sensational allegations.....

....WILL NEVER BE PROVEN AND ARE LIKELY FALSE. Thank you to Michael Isikoff, Yahoo, for honesty. What this means is that the FISA WARRANTS and the whole Russian Witch Hunt is a Fraud and a Hoax which should be ended immediately. Also, it was paid for by Crooked Hillary DNC!

Michael Isikoff was the first to report Dossier allegations and now seriously doubts the Dossier claims. The whole Russian Collusion thing was a HOAX, but who is going to restore the good name of so many people whose reputations have been destroyed?

Russias support for Trumps election is no longer disputable The Washington Post - Duration: 1:42.

Russias support for Trumps election is no longer disputable The Washington Post

Opinion Interpretation of the news based on evidence, including data, as well as anticipating how events might unfold based on past events

prepared for the Senate on Russian unfold a now indisputable narrative: The Kremlin engaged in a coordinated campaign to elevate Donald Trump to the presidency, and this countrys technology companies were central to its strategy.

The Russia operation is staggering in its scale, precision and deceptiveness. Pages generated by the Kremlin linked Internet Research Agency elicited nearly 40 million likes and more than 30 million shares on Facebook alone, reeling in susceptible users with provocative advertisements and then giving them propaganda to spread far and wide. The aim was not to toss the country into tumult, but to put the preferred candidate of a foreign adversary in the Oval Office. All the while, Americans were entirely unaware of what was happening: What seemed like local Black Lives Matter activists were actually Russian trolls well versed in the buzzwords of social justice. Ostensible patriots for Second Amendment rights were broadcasting from St. Petersburg.

Republicans have protested over the past year that election interference is neither unusual nor important. This weeks reports comprehensively put both arguments to rest. Russia waged an unprecedented campaign, targeting Americans across all segments of society, on platforms large and small. The studies do not even cover the entirety of Russias online tampering: The hack and leak operation that led to the release of Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podestas private emails, orchestrated by the GRU, Russias military intelligence agency, was another crucial salvo in a pro Trump onslaught.

Russias machinations began more than five years ago. Whether they were decisive in electing Mr. Trump will never definitively be answered. Given the narrow margin of his victory, it is fair to say that any one of several factors Ms. Clintons campaign missteps, then FBI Director James B. Comeys intervention, etc. was decisive. What can be definitively stated is that all Americans should find this foreign intervention absolutely intolerable.

An essential task now is to prevent its repetition. There is plenty that both Congress and companies can do, starting with modernizing advertising regulations for the digital age. Lawmakers should also create carve outs to current restrictions on information sharing that would allow companies to offer data to trusted academics and organizations in a way that preserves user privacy. Platforms should coordinate with one other, as well as with the government, to track manipulation campaigns in real time.

The Senate Intelligence Committee it does not necessarily endorse the findings of this weeks reports, but its bipartisan decision to commission the reports is encouraging. The question now is whether committee members will be willing to hold Russia accountable in their own forthcoming review. Candidate Donald Trump once invited Russia to find Ms. Clintons emails, sending the message that it could meddle with impunity. Though sanctions have been imposed since the election, evidently Russia has not been deterred. Until that changes, no reform will be sufficient.

US official says Washington reviewing North Korea travel ban - Duration: 5:02.

The Trump administration's special envoy for North Korea said Wednesday that Washington is reviewing easing its travel restrictions to North Korea to facilitate humanitarian shipments as part of efforts to resolve an impasse in nuclear diplomacy

Stephen Biegun made the comments upon arrival in South Korea for talks on the nuclear negotiations, which have seen little headway since a summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in June, when they issued a vague vow for a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula without describing how or when it would occur

Biegun said his discussions with South Korean officials will be about how to work together to engage with North Korea "in a manner that will help us move forward and move beyond the 70 years of hostility

" Toward that end, Biegun said he was directed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to review America's policy on humanitarian assistance provided to North Korea

"I understand that many humanitarian aid organizations, operating in the DPRK, are concerned that strict enforcement of international sanctions has occasionally impeded the delivery of legitimate humanitarian assistance to the Korean people," Biegun said, referring to North Korea by its official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

He said he'll sit down with American aid groups early in the new year to discuss how the U

S. government can "better ensure the delivery of appropriate assistance, particularly, through the course of the coming winter

" "We will also review American citizen travel to DPRK for purposes of facilitating the delivery of aid and ensuring that monitoring in line with international standards can occur," Biegun said

"I want to be clear — the United States and the United Nations will continue to closely review requests for exemptions and licenses for the delivery of assistance to the DPRK

" North Korea didn't immediately respond to Biegun's comments. Talks between Washington and Pyongyang have been stalled for months, with the two sides at an impasse over next steps following Trump's meeting with Kim in Singapore and several trips to Pyongyang by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo

The United States wants North Korea to provide a detailed account of nuclear and missile facilities that would be inspected and dismantled under a potential deal, while the North is insisting that sanctions be lifted first

In the meantime, several reports from private analysts have accused North Korea of continuing nuclear and missile development, citing details from commercial satellite imagery

Biegun said the United States came to have "greater confidence about the safety and security of Americans traveling to the DPRK" after North Korea in November released an American held for an alleged illegal entrance to the country

"The government of the DPRK handled the review of the American citizen's expulsion expeditiously and with great discretion and sensitivity through diplomatic channels," he said

The United States banned its citizens from traveling to North Korea following the death of American college student Otto Warmbier, who died days after he was released in a coma from North Korea last year following 17 months in captivity

Warmbier's death came amid heightened animosity on the Korean Peninsula, with Trump and Kim exchanging crude insults and war threats over North Korea's series of nuclear and missile tests

Tensions have gradually eased since early this year, when Kim abruptly reached out to the United States and South Korea with an offer to negotiate away his advancing nuclear arsenal

Since its entrance to the talks, North Korea has unilaterally dismantled its nuclear testing site and parts of its rocket engine test facility and taken some conciliatory gestures, including the repatriation of three other American detainees ahead of the June summit
