I'm Gary Bembridge I'm here in Barcelona I'm staying at the Eurostar Grand

Marina Hotel, and it's a great hotel. It's located very conveniently sort of

halfway between the cruise port and the famous Ramblas area. So it's a pretty

good location in all respects. So the hotel itself is billed as a five-star

hotel. It is a pretty big hotel, and one of the things that I do like about the

hotel a lot is the rooms. The rooms are absolutely enormous. I was staying in

Room 720, so obviously up on the seventh floor. As you come to the room you can

see it is huge! So there's this very long passage that is all done in wood. It

feels very sort of chic. And just on the left hand side, as you come in, is a

dressing room with hanging space area which also has the mini bar, has tea and coffee

making facilities and then also has this storage space and a large safe. Nice

big large safe, so you can put things like laptops and cameras, that kind of stuff

in. So that's a great size. As you head down the passageway towards the bed

area on the left hand side you then have the bathroom. The bathroom is split into two

areas. You have the double basins in one area (and I love double basins as you

probably know if you've watched any of my other videos!) and then in the other area

you have the toilet, the bidet and the bath - which is a stand-in shower bath. As

well you also get these branded toiletries as part of the overall package. So let's

go to take a look now at the bedroom area. So as you can see as you come to

the bedroom it is a nice big space. You have two beds

you know together. So there are two individual beds (so kind of twin beds) but

in my case there are in sort of a double bed configuration. Very comfortable beds

as well. Across on the side you have the dressing table /workspace area. The great

thing is on the positive side there are lots of plug sockets - but they're all

low down! So unlike sort of more modern hotels

where you've got things like USB charges and plugs which are up on the desk so

it's very easy to plug in chargers and laptops and those kind of things.

You have to scrabble down on the floor to plug those in. So there are lots of plugs but

they're not as conveniently located as they could be. You also have a

balcony. Now I didn't actually face outside, I've faced into a courtyard. On

the positive side though, while I had no view it was very quiet and very peaceful. So

there you are, this is room 720 at the Eurostar

Grand Marina Hotel. It's really in a great location. It's a quiet part of

Barcelona but it's within walking distance to the Maritime Museum and the Ramblas, and

it is walkable to the port. But if you've got things like suitcases or whatever and

you are so sailing in, or sailing out, you probably do need to get a taxi here as it's

probably too far to walk. So tI hope you found that helpful if you are

looking for a great hotel stay in Barcelona. And if you did I'd love it if

you "liked" the video, but even more importantly I'd love it if you

subscribed to the Tips For Travellers YouTube channel and you'll get much more

inspiration, advice and tips.

Disney's Persian, Asian, & Venetian Resorts: Cancelled Seven Seas Hotels - Duration: 6:00.

Back when Walt Disney World opened in 1971, the two notable hotels on property were the

Polynesian and Contemporary resorts by the Seven Seas Lagoon.

Did you know there were plans for three more hotels there that were ultimately never built?

First up was Disney's Asian Resort, which would have sat along the Seven Seas Lagoon

right where the Grand Floridian sits today.

The Asian Resort would have been heavily themed around the country of Thailand, and Disney

had hopes of opening it in late 1974.

It was planned to be a square plot of rooms surrounding a 160 foot tall main building

that would have featured a Thai themed restaurant at the top, overlooking both the Seven Seas

Lagoon and parts of the Magic Kingdom.

The second resort, Disney's Persian Resort, was actually the only one of the five planned

to sit outside of the Seven Seas Lagoon area.

Situated along the coast of Bay Lake, the Iranian themed hotel was planned at one point

to share a dedicated monorail line that would run into Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom.

Lastly, Disney's Venetian Resort, built along the lagoon between the Ticket & Transportation

Center and The Contemporary Resort was going to be themed after the Italian city of Venice.

Guests would actually get around the resort by gondola on streets of water and under bridges

that connected the various parts of the hotel.

So what happened?

Well for a while these hotel projects were actually going along as planned.

The Asian Resort was scheduled to start construction in early 1974 with plans to open later that year.

In fact in early photos of the lagoon you could see the flat plot of land jutting out

into the water in preparation for the Asian Resort, and across the lagoon on the other

side, land was visibly cleared for the Venetian Resort.

Then the oil crisis happened.

In October of 1973 OPEC instituted an oil embargo on a number of nations, including

Canada, the UK, Japan, and the United States.

As a result in less than half a year the price of a barrel of oil in the US quadruped.

Suddenly the nation was facing gas shortages and climbing prices.

Since the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978 wouldn't occur for another five years, higher

airfare meant that at this point flying was still more of a luxury for a family on vacation.

The vast majority of families still drove to Disney World and during this oil embargo

families were cancelling their vacations out of fear that they might not be able to afford

or even find the gas needed to get to or from Disney.

As a result Disney saw a decline in attendance to Disney World and the company, taking a

financial hit from it, was forced to reconsider their priorities with the resort.

By the mid 1970s Disney was less concerned with building more hotels and rooms to fill

up and instead shifted their focus on using their resources to create new rides as well

as their first ever second-gate, EPCOT.

At this point the three resort ideas were shelved.

It's said that in 1978 the Iranian Shah, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi offered to fund

the Persian hotel to make it happen, however in the following year he would be overthrown

during the Iranian Revolution, rendering the offer moot.

That same revolution would kick off a second oil crisis in 1979, causing the price of oil

to more than double, once again causing a financial impact not only for Disney but tourism as a whole.

Then in the mid 1980s Disney would see a leadership shakeup with the replacement of Ron Miller

by Michael Eisner.

Eisner jumped into the role of CEO with an energy dedicated to revitalizing and growing

Walt Disney World, and that included expanding their resort offerings in order to capitalize

on all of the guests who were coming down but staying off property.

While the Persian hotel was out, there were still plans to put more hotels around the

Seven Seas Lagoon.

In place of the Thailand inspired Asian Resort and on the same plot of land, Disney instead

opted to build a Victorian era beach resort similar in style to those built around the

coast in the early 1900s.

In June of 1988 the hotel was completed and Disney's Grand Floridian Beach Resort would

open to the public.

As for the the Venetian Resort, the concept would eventually be replaced with plans for

Disney's Mediterranean Resort.

The five star hotel was going to be themed around a Greek island on the land in between

the Ticket and Transportation Center and the Contemporary.

It was cleared for the hotel, but Disney quickly found that the land around that part of the

lagoon proved to be extremely difficult and unstable to build on, and so the project was

ultimately abandoned.

Lastly, there was something to be said about the necessity of building extra hotels around

the Seven Seas Lagoon by that point.

When Disney World first opened, Walt's plans for EPCOT hadn't fully died yet.

The Magic Kingdom and its surrounding resorts were considered phase one of the overall project,

with the city to follow.

So at that time it made sense to group the hotels closely around the Magic Kingdom.

As far as they were concerned in the 1970s, that was the only theme park the property

would ever have.

Over time that obviously changed.

EPCOT transformed from a city of the future to a theme park, and by the 1990s Disney-MGM

Studios would open for all to enjoy.

With the city concept long gone, and various theme parks spread out across the property,

there was no longer the need to keep the hotels constrained to the Seven Seas Lagoon area.

And so Disney would begin to expand, building hotels all over Walt Disney World so that

guests would have more options and closer proximity to the different parks.

The fate of the Persian, Asian, and Venetian Resorts at Walt Disney World serve as great

examples of how the path in which Disney World developed

sometimes wasn't even in Disney's own hands.

WATCH: Video Shows Stephen Paddock's Hotel Room Before Shooting

Video from inside the Mandalay Bay hotel room where Stephen Paddock shot from in Las Vegas has surfaced.

A doctor who claims to have stayed in the room last year sent a video to Fox News that shows the view from the room.

Fox News' Adam Housely reported that Dr. Jason Huffman, an orthopedic surgeon from Pennsylvania sent him the footage from inside the room. Huffman claims he stayed in room 32135, the same room Paddock stayed in, exactly a year ago.

"He was actually in that exact same suite one year ago for the exact same concert. He didn't realize it," Housley reported.

"One of his friends called him and said, hey, look at that video again. It's room 32135, 32135 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel.".

Housley continued, "And if you see, you can get the idea of how open that view is. You see the video as he walks in.

And it's basically a bank of windows that curls around from two different angles, one facing directly east and one facing to the northeast, allowing a shooter in this case to have two distinctly views down on to the people below, the 22,000 people that were below.

Paddock killed at least 59 people who were attending the Route 91 Harvest country music festival across the street from Mandalay Bay. Over 500 others were injured in the shooting.

Paddock, who had to break open the windows to shoot at the festivalgoers, was found dead by police in his hotel room after they blew the door open.

Randy Sutton, a retired lieutenant with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, told the Washington Post that police located Paddock after gunsmoke filled the room, which had several firealarms.

"He rained down hell on those people," Sutton told the Post. The sheriff said that there were several firearms found in the room. He was extremely well armed. He must have brought plenty more ammunition, already loaded into magazines.".

Police still have not found a motive for the shooting. Twenty-three guns were reportedly found by his side in the hotel room, and 19 others were found at his Mesquite, Nevada home.

The Los Angeles Times reports that U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff of California said he was briefed by FBI officials about the weapons.

He said he was told investigators found fully automatic weapons in the room, but it's not clear if Paddock bought them that way or had them modified.

The shooting on late Sunday night was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. It came 15 months after the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, where 49 people were killed.

What happened inside the shooter's suite at the Mandalay Bay hotel|K CHANNEL - Duration: 5:51.

What happened inside the shooter's suite at the Mandalay Bay hotel

Housekeepers said they saw no signs of anything suspicious in the two-room suite, Nevada Rep.

Dina Titus told CNN.

Paddock had 23 guns inside the suite, as well as hammers, LVMPD Assistant Sheriff Todd Fasulo said.

The arsenal was pretty well hidden, Titus said.

The gunman had brought in excess of 10 suitcases to his room over several days, Lombardo told reporters Monday.

Authorities believe Paddock brought the weapons into the hotel by himself, but they did not provide specifics.

Portraits of the victims of the Las Vegas shooting.

As the first shots rang out Sunday, first responders realized that the gunfire was raining down on the crowd from a vantage point up high.

Its coming out a window, a first responder shouts on dispatch audio obtained by CNN.

Attention soon focused on the Mandalay Bay hotel, several floors up and several hundred feet away.

CNN law enforcement analyst Art Roddick said he was struck by the planning that went into the attack.

Firing from an elevated position is always what you want to do, so I would not be surprised if we have some video of him actually standing in that venue looking up at Mandalay Bay and trying to figure out which room is going to give him the best advantage.

You can see those windows are knocked out, one in the front and one in the corner, which gave him two different angles to shoot from and thats all part of this planning, Roddick said.

The presence of other hotel guests in the rooms surrounding Paddocks meant that police couldnt return fire from the ground, he explained.

Officers hear gunfire approaching killers room 03:21.

Police entered the hotel to begin working their way to the shooters sniper nest.

A team of six officers that approached security, they went up the elevators after discussing the situation with the security and obtaining intelligence, Lombardo said.

And they checked each floor by floor until they located where they believe to be the room, the sheriff said.

High up on the hotels residential floors, a first responder radioed in: Im inside the Mandalay Bay on the 31st floor, I can hear automatic fire coming from one floor ahead.

one floor above us..

Subsequently they approached the room, received gunfire, they backed off and SWAT responded, Lombardo said.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Undersheriff Kevin McMahill said once the first responders had isolated this individual to the two rooms, our SWAT team used the explosive breaching to go in and confront the individual.

Shooters angle prevented people from escaping 02:06.

A SWAT officer is heard on police radio: We need to pop this (door) and see if we get any type of response from this guy.

See if hes in here or if hes actually moved somewhere else..

Once inside the room, police found the shooter dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot.

Lombardo said police believe Paddock killed himself prior to our entry..

The attack was a threat police could not have prepared for, McMahill said.

These folks were attacked by a man from 32 stories up with automatic rifle fire and so I dont really know how you plan for that.

We just didnt see it coming..
