- Happy new year,

oh my goodness,

I am so excited for you,

and I hope you have an amazing year,

filled with health, spiritual wealth, happiness,

adventure, love, (kisses)

and exciting, new opportunities.

Woo!

(cheering)

(horn blowing)

Now, if you're like me,

you might be thinking about

new year's resolutions right now.

Maybe you're feeling a little bad

about the goals you didn't accomplish last year,

or a little anxious about the ones

you might screw up this year.

Either way, take a deep breath, (inhaling) and keep this

one tip in mind,

less is better.

If I try and tackle more than three big goals a year,

there's a really good chance I won't be successful.

Plus I'll burn myself out

pushing, and trying, and that is just not sexy.

So get clear on what's essential

and excites you.

And don't let your eyes be bigger

than your goal-accomplishing tummy.

♪ Too many goals in my tummy, ow ♪

But regardless of what your goals are,

today I want to take a big step back,

and focus on some game-changing habits

that will support any goal you set.

Number one, build in buffer time.

Now, I don't know about you,

but I often underestimate how long a project will take.

Let's see,

painting the living room,

yeah, I could probably do that in a day or so.

Wrong, no.

If you're like me,

you do things thoroughly.

Well, that means you need more time

to do your best work,

and be your best self.

Otherwise, you'll steal that time

from other areas.

Like your self care and general well being.

Mm mm, either that,

or you'll quit half way because you realize

that you just couldn't pull it off.

Now, sometimes quitting is okay

and even necessary,

but I bet we can both agree

that it's just better to be realistic

and then build in buffer time as a safety net.

So what does buffer time look like?

Well, it depends on the situation and project.

And it also depends on your health.

So, it could be 15 extra minutes before a meeting,

or a few extra months.

Either way, you don't know what you don't know.

Stuff pops up, shizzle goes down,

you don't know what surprises and roadblocks

life has in store.

So plan for them with buffer time.

Number two, try adding before subtracting.

Hmm.

So let's so you want to improve your diet this year,

but you're worried about follow through

or feeling deprived.

Well here's a good tip,

start adding more of the good stuff

into your daily eating plan.

Don't worry about stripping things out yet.

Just add.

Adding more water will reduce the amount of soda you drink.

Adding some fruit after dinner will keep you

from the cookies.

Adding more veggies to your breakfast, lunch, and dinner

will edge out the less beneficial choices.

And yes, you can add veggies to your breakfast

by juicing and making smoothies.

Oh my goodness, look what's here?

Crazy, Sexy Juice, with juice and smoothie recipes.

So many, (kiss) so good.

Are you picking up what I'm laying down?

Focus on adding goodness into your life this year.

Into your diet, your lifestyle practices, your work.

Goodness will fill you up so much

that you'll have less room for the stuff

that doesn't serve your body or spirit.

Before you know it,

you're feeling better and your health goals are in sight.

Number three, focus on progress not perfection.

Now, while the idea of wanting to do something perfectly

shows that you care about quality,

it can also be destructive.

In truth, there's no such thing as perfection.

And our search for it often sucks the joy out of life.

Plus it can even keep us from trying in the first place.

It won't be perfect, so why bother?

I won't be good enough, so forget it.

(snoring)

So I want to encourage you to forget perfection

and focus on progress instead.

Perfection is rigid and lacks personality.

Progress is open minded and inclusive.

One stems from fear, the other from love.

Plus progress allows for delicious detours

that can teach us so many things.

When you focus on progress,

you'll still get where you want to go.

You'll just do it in a way that's curious, kind, and fun.

What could be better?

Nothing.

So now it's your turn.

What are you excited to focus on this year?

Let me know in the comments below.

Or if you have a successful habit tip

or a way of approaching goal setting,

I hope this serves you and helps you live like you mean it.

The Simple Solution to End Your Mind Games - Duration: 2:48.

The greatest hindrance to the new life that Jesus offers is the old life and the things

of the world that tend to remind us of it.

That's why in order to have what is good, acceptable and perfect, the apostle Paul instructed,

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds."

Certainly, those of us who have been in the church for any length of time are familiar

with this.

What we're not all as familiar with is how to practically do it.

While penning my book, Activating the Power of God's Word, I dissected Paul's instructions,

which revealed the solution.

The answer for "how to renew" is in the word itself, which means "to resume to an

original position after an interruption."

You see, when you were born again, you were instantly positioned as a new person in Christ.

That's what 2 Corinthians 5:17 assures: "So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new

creation."

As this new creation, you now possess the fruits of the Holy Spirit: "love, joy, peace,

patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."

Because you're now clothed in Christ, you also get the identity of Christ: a child of

God, righteous and complete, just to name a few.

The struggle we face as Christians is that the world and the enemy continue to try to

interrupt us with reminders and feelings that take us back to the old life—old ways of

thinking, speaking and living—and to at least dampen God's promises of joy, peace

and patience, for examples.

So the key to experiencing the new, transformed life that Jesus died for you to have is to

interrupt the interruptions with the truth of God's Word.

If feelings of fear try to interrupt you, resume back to your fearless position in Christ

with 2 Timothy 1:7: "God has not given me a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power,

love, and self-disciple."

If anxious thoughts try to interrupt you, resume back to your peaceful position in Christ

with Philippians 4:6–7: "I am not anxious about anything … but the peace of God which

surprises all understanding, guards my heart and mind in Christ Jesus."

If reminders of mistakes try to interrupt you with guilt or shame, resume back to your

forgiven position in Christ with 2 Corinthians 5:21: "He who knew no sin took on my sin

so that I am declared the righteousness of God in Christ."

As you interrupt the interruption with God's Word through your mouth, your mind focuses

back on your position in Christ, which in time trickles down to transform everything

about you.

Quick and Simple Valentine - Duration: 3:49.

Hey everybody! In today's video I have a very quick and simple and graphic

Valentine card for you and it's something that I just love - it's exactly

my style. This is the Concord &9th Love You So

bundle, which is a beautiful graphic set with a bunch of different combinations

that you can do, all of them very modern and bold which I like. I'm not into

schmoopy so modern and bold is my preference. I'm using a very

well-loved and somewhat dry Melon Mambo ink pad I'm not gonna lie

I should have reinked it before this video but with the MIST it doesn't matter

because I can just keep stamping it until it looks normal so really I'm

saving ink! I'm being very frugal - that's what I'm doing. That's my story and I'm

sticking to it! Now there's a fun halftone pattern that

goes over the square which I love. That's one of my favorite patterns and so I'm

stamping that in black because I think pink and black is adorable and it

matches my MISTI, so why not? There are other little dies in the set

that I'm going to use with my mini die-cutting machine from Altenew. I

love this machine because it fits in my videos. I'm going to cut out the heart

out of Melon Mambo also and then the arrow out of black but I also need a

black heart because the heart isn't really standing out against that pink

square. But what's great about this die

is if I use the little outline piece that comes with it - this is something

Concord & 9th does a lot which I like - then I have a frame for my heart,

and now it really pops against the square.

So now I'm going to attempt to do something really poorly thought-out and stupid

here but I'm leaving it in the video because y'all say you like it when I

leave my mistakes in. I'm cutting with an exacto a little slot so that I can weave

the arrow through the heart which just seems like a good idea right? I mean you

might have tried that. It wasn't - it was a terrible idea!

It looks like botched heart surgery by the time I'm finished. It makes this cute

little heart look mangled and stupid. Look - it's awful! So I'm ditching that

idea. I need to cut myself another arrow and cut myself another pink heart

because of the mangled heart that I now have, so after I do that I'm going to glue

down the black frame where I want it at the edge of this square - kind of centered -

and then I can cut myself another little pink heart that isn't botched and stick

that in there. Now for the arrow I've come to my senses and I'm just going to

snip a tiny piece out and make it look like it's going through the heart

without it making look like the heart was attacked by a vicious animal. So

there's that and then I'm gonna take my Neat &Tangled Like Magic sequins and I

just kind of fling them on my card because sometimes that gives me an idea

of where to put them. As you know, overthinking sequin placement is a

disease affecting many crafters, so I try not to do that by just flinging them all

out there (and usually some on the floor.) But I love these sequins - they're my

favorite! See me overthinking??? I'm overthinking - I'm doing it. So head over

to my blog for a big giveaway and a list of some of my favorite things from 2017

and thanks so much for watching!

HOW TO SET GOALS AND ACHIEVE THEM - Simple steps to achieve goals in 2018 - Duration: 5:08.

hey guys it's Christina here and this episode is slightly different to the

ones that you usually see on my channel

This episode is about setting new year's resolutions and why am i expert in this

why am i sharing this with you it's because there is a lot of wealth of

information there is a lot of videos about how to set goals how to be

successful in them and trust me I tried so so many of those and I was really

unsuccessful and what in the last couple of years I have been doing and I was

successful with it I thought of sharing it with you because I know that we're

different people and not everything works the same for us so maybe something

that has worked for me will also work for some of you so let's get into it

shall we the very first thing that I do that I

tend to do is I try and avoid setting goals in the beginning of the year I

know it's a little bit strange but bear with me because I feel like if you set

goals in the beginning of the year you did because of the peer pressure and

sometimes you set the goals that you don't really mean

or want or you're not very dedicated to achieve like sometimes people say oh

I'll start going to the gym everyday this year so what I try to do is I

set either just a few days or months before the goal and or after and

sometimes this I set goals two to four times a year so don't set I don't have

like one day to where I set goals for the whole 12 months I actually set goals

for the next two months I will have probably a generic goal and then I will

have sub goals that will have a shorter time a month or two months so I can

evaluate them on a regular basis such a goal could be replacing their milk with

plant-based milk and just see notice for the next 30 days how my body feels if

and if I like it or if there any difficulty so just look at

pros and cons and then after that if I want to go a step further if I see that

my body responds very positively to plant-based milk then maybe I want to

keep it for another month or two months or for the rest of the year and then

adding something else like for example instead of eating meat five times a

week I would eat meat three times a week so making goals also specific as

specific as possible so you might have a generic goal such as stay healthy

become healthier and then you will have sub goals and those sub goals are very

very important because you'll see that those are the ones that will help you

achieve your bigger goal so what I found is setting small and manageable goals

and being specific with your goals on a regular

basis is what helped me achieve them then I also looked at my strengths and

weaknesses and I realized that there are some areas where I would love to have an

accountability partner so I can strive and I can keep on working very hard

towards a certain goal like for example around my business because I'm not an

expert and that having an accountability partner or someone that will have a

second thought or opinion someone that has done things before or that just someone

that I can call and say by the way I have done this I was really successful I

find that that helps and it is not a bad or a good thing it's just in some areas

we do need support we do need help so make sure you get it so you can achieve

your goals if you really want to so those were my

four tips on how to set new year's resolutions or how to make at least your

new resolution successful so the first one of them is set small and manageable

goals evaluate your goals frequently so every month or every two months

reevaluate them just understand if you want to continue and if you like what

you're seeing then take it a step further and also have an accountability

partner in areas where you're don't feel strong enough thank you so much for

tuning in if you like this video please do give it a thumbs up share your

thoughts in the comment section below and do subscribe because I upload new

videos every week. See you in the next episode.

How to Achieve Your Goals? 3 Simple Rules for Changing Your Life! The Success Mindset Podcast #2 - Duration: 9:12.

Hey everybody I'm Sam and this is Entiversal. I'm filming that on the first

of January 2018 so it's the first day of the new year and I'm sure that all of us

are hearing all of these New Year's resolutions and you know the aims the

goals of people their dreams everybody wants to be there new you and to better

themselves and all this is great it's great to have dreams it's great to have

aims and goals but even better than that is to actually go after them and do

something about it and sadly a lot of people fail there so the thing is you

know it's not about the New Year it's not about Monday it's not about some

kind of milestone you know it's about what you want to achieve what you want

to be and just doing something about it like the famous Nike's slogan says right

just do it but a lot of people you know need some kind of milestones or wait for

something because they might have big goals big aims you know they might be

actually dreaming big and beautiful things but they are afraid they are

afraid of failure they are afraid of what others will say but the truth is it

doesn't matter you know it doesn't matter what your friends will say or

they might think that you felt it doesn't matter if now your siblings

think you know that you might have failed because the truth is in 99.9

percent of the time the world doesn't care they just don't

care and in the rest of the times if they do care it's probably good for you

because it gives you exposure so basically there is nothing to worry

about you know you can only win the only reason you're losing is because of the

thing that you know you put in your head that prevent you from doing what you

want what you love and what you're after okay and you know means bad

they have a great saying that I just and it says that if you can do anything

about a problem then there is no use worrying about it and if you can do then

why worry so you know the idea is just is just start just do and it's not about

because it's a new year it's not about because it's Monday it's about what you

want to do and you know then people are scared because you know something might

be very big and they don't know how to start or they're afraid that they fail

but as I said it's good to dream and it's even better to dream big because

the only way to achieve something big and to go very far ahead is to try to go

very far head it's to aim very big right and even if you fail in achieving what

you might have set yourself for then you still might achieve a lot and you still

might achieve more than anybody else thought that you couldn't maybe more

than you thought you could okay and the only way to do that is to aim big and

that thing I just believe so much in and I just do that every day in my life you

know I always set my goal so high that they're practically unachievable so it's

practically impossible to achieve that so you know I might be living everyday

in failure for some people but then when people look at me from the outside I'm

achieving a lot and that's because I aim for a lot and and that just keeps me

motivated that keeps me going and that will push you to actually do

more than you thought you could do and that's when you really start winning

when you're motivated you're loving every day of going what you want to do

and just you know do more just do a little bit more than you thought you

could and when you do that every day it compounds and the worst reason that

stops a lot of people from achieving their goals the new year's

resolutions whatever it is it's because they don't know how to start they have

some kind of big goals you know maybe some kind of a big Idol that they

haven't it just seems so far away in a head from their own reality that they

just don't know what to do to go in that direction and that's why a lot of people

always fantasize for this you know perfect moments that they need to start

and for all of people that you know next Monday maybe New Year's Eve maybe some

kind of other milestone and while it's true that sometimes there is this

perfect moment that you can start something always the second best moment

is to start it now and for most of people like over 99.9% of the time the

first best moment the perfect moment is now so you might just start it now right

because I promise you if you wait you're just losing you're missing out if you

start doing something now even if you don't start doing it you know from the

perfect position or you're not as prepared as you would like to be you

understand that you're worrying much more by trying to do something than just

waiting and some kind of preparing and all of us are looking at these great

people that something I always talk about then I believe very much in you

know in looking at you know what you want to achieve you know it could be it

could be someone very famous or someone very rich you know a scientist you know

a businessman an entrepreneur whatever it is it is someone that has

achieved a lot but a lot of people don't realize that those great successful

people they didn't just wake up one morning and you know became very

successful okay greatness is built every day

day by day years in years some for some people that's decades of work okay and a

lot of times this is not seen because in one

moment someone becomes very successful and then all of us just start thinking

about him like he's a different kind of person but no he's the same person and

he's the same as you he has just put a lot of work in it so

how to start you know just do the best you can at the moment every day every

hour every moment in time it probably will seem like nothing compared to what

you want to achieve but by doing something little you first of all you

move the world you go and second of all you're learning you're learning in which

time you start doing more and more and more and then the second thing is push

yourself you know think about that big end goal that you have and just do a

little more than you thought you could you you know just push yourself a little

and that compounding with time I promise you that's how you win that's how you

can achieve a lot and you know your dreams your aims

they'll probably evolve they will change with you work in with what you learn but

that's just even better that that's what makes it great so overall as I said it's

not about a New Year's Eve it's not about some kind of milestone it's not

about the resolution it's about what you really want to achieve we wanted to be

in just doing something going after it and you know it might look like easy for

me to talk about that now we just find which you know try and do it then you

know don't give up after two days you know don't give up after a week just

keep doing it you know do the best you can at every moment and I promise you

you will win it's not about what others think it's not about how others see you

it's about you being your best you I hope you enjoyed that and even though I

was talking about from the perspective of the new year starting you know that

is true remember that this is true every day every moment

of time and it's good to remind ourselves that stay focused stay strong

work and you will win see you next time!

The Technical Skills You NEED To Have As A DEVELOPER! - Duration: 19:34.

Hey, what's up?

John Sonmez here from simpleprogrammer.com.

I've got my book here, The Complete Software Developer's Career Guide, and I've had it

on my board for a while to do a video about some of the chapters in this book, some of

the concepts and to kind of expand on some of these.

You can find obviously all of the information in the book.

I've got an audio version that will be coming out.

Probably, by the time you're watching this video, it might be out already.

I thought I'd talk about today the technical skills you need to have as a software developer.

What are the technical skills that you need to have.

This actually comes from Chapter Three of the Complete Software Developer's Career Guide,

which was—it debuted at number five on the Wall Street Journal bestseller list.

Yes, it did.

Amazing.

I love to give myself compliments.

I love to like pat myself on the back.

"Yeah.

All right, John.

Good job, man.

All right."

What do we got here?

Technical skills you need to have as a software developer.

Let me talk about this a little bit.

This is one of those question I get a lot.

This is why I put it very early in the book, is that—especially, a lot of new developers

want to know what are the skills that they need to have in order to succeed as a software

developer and a lot of times they're focused on, "Should I learn Angular or React?", which

is really the wrong focus.

The more important focus is on—again, I always focus on principles, on higher level

concepts, on evergreen things that are going to benefit you for the length of your career

and that's what I'm going to talk about today.

The thing is—and I'll say this also—is that there's a lot more benefit in developing

principles and soft skills.

There was this Henry or Ralph Waldo Emerson quote that I keep on butchering, but it's

something like there's a million methods that you can utilize, but very few principles.

Anyone who knows principles can derive all the methods that they want, but someone who

just focus methods is in for trouble.

I don't remember the exact quote, but it's something like that and that's what I try

to convey.

That's why this channel is about soft skills.

That's why I wrote the book Soft Skills for Software Developers, my first book.

Look.

It just happened to me right there on the screen.

How cool is that?

Anyway—but you do need to have some technical skills as well, otherwise—I mean you don't

want to be—again, I'll point to my thing here.

This is a thing.

It's basically like talk and work.

Charlatan, Martyr, Hustler.

Okay?

You don't want to be a Charlatan which is all talk and then work.

You don't want to be a Martyr, which is all work and no talk.

You don't want to be a Hustler, which is maxed in the—fully in both, in both of those

things.

If you're going to be successful in whatever you're doing, you've got to have the skills

to pay the bills, but you also got to have the people skills and the soft skills that

are going to make you successful as well.

Right?

You got to have both of these things.

Without further ado, let's talk about some of the technical skills you need to have as

a software developer.

The first one is one programming language.

This is where it should start.

It's just one.

Just one programming language.

You don't have to know 15 different programming languages.

You need to have one that you specialize in that—I've got a whole playlist on specialization.

I'm not going to read the hashtag here, but you should definitely check this out.

Bookmark that playlist and watch those videos.

It's going to be one of the best things that you do for your career.

I promise you.

Go ahead right now.

Open up another window.

Hit bookmark or whatever you can find the link in the card or the description below,

but you're going to want to go through that and learn about specialization.

It's really important to learn one programming language.

So many beginners, so many people starting out they try and like—they're like, "I'm

going to learn Python and Java and JavaScript, and all this stuff."

What ends up happening is they get a weak understanding of each one of those languages

and it doesn't benefit them much.

Today in the software development world, you can pretty much learn one language and do

everything with it.

Languages have become really, really capable to do just about any task.

I know there's better tools for different jobs, but I'm just saying like pick a language

and stick with it.

I've got a video on the top languages for 2018, which you should check out if you're

curious which ones I would recommend.

Pick something.

It doesn't actually even matter which one that you pick, so long as you pick some programming

language to specialize and to focus on, so that you're focused so you're not all over

the place.

The next one is how to structure code.

This one is kind of interesting.

What do I mean by structuring code?

There's two good books on this that I'm going to recommend.

I'm trying to see if I have it on here.

Yeah, I did.

Actually, yeah.

I'll recommend both of them.

Code Complete by Steve McConnell, that's the first one.

That's a really, really good book about structuring your code, and the other one by one of my

favorite authors.

Actually, I just had an interview with him on this channel.

You can search on the channel for Uncle Bob Martin Clean Code.

Both of these books talk about structuring code and it's about—this is the thing that

I primarily use to judge whether a software developer is good, when I interview a software

developer, is I look at their code and I look at how it's written and I see how expressive

it is.

How are their variables named?

How are their functions named?

How do they structure the code?

How do they logically lay it out?

It should read like a nice book.

It should read like sentences.

If they've got comments all throughout their code, comments are a failure to express yourself

within the code.

I want to see you express yourself in the code.

It's an art form.

It's a skill to learn, but it's beautiful.

When you look at some beautiful code, it is beautiful.

It has beauty to it because you can understand it because you can read it because the variables

are named so well that it just reads and flows like you don't even have to know the programming

language to understand what the code is doing because the code itself speaks to you.

That's the best way I can describe it.

Again, I'm not going to be able to cover the completeness of what that is in this short

video, but that's why I gave you those two books, Code Complete and Clean Code.

Again, all the links will be in the description below.

You can always click the card, but I'd recommend that you check out those books.

You want to learn how to write good, clean code.

That's how I know that you're a professional.

As a beginner, to write good clean code is so important and then there's an art form,

like I said, to learn how to structure the code.

The next one.

This one is marginal, but it's object-oriented design.

Most programming languages today are going to have some object-oriented concepts.

You should know things like encapsulation, polymorphism.

It's right object-oriented design.

How to build a good object-oriented system and how to create classes, and all of those

things.

Again, it's not necessarily going to apply for using functional languages, but most developers

aren't.

Most developers are doing some kind of object-oriented programming, and so it's really, really important.

Regardless of whether or not you are using a functional language or object-oriented language,

in an interview, you're going to be asked object-oriented programming language questions.

It's almost given they're going to be asking those things.

It's all about managing complexity.

The whole point is that we've got to be able to take complex systems and be able to break

them down into smaller abstractions, so that we can—that's the whole point of software

development, like a good software development like a good software developer takes complex

things and makes them simple.

That's why I called this channel.

That's why I called—what I'm doing my company is Simple Programmer because the whole idea

was to make the complex simple.

That's the biggest attribute of a good programmer.

Object-oriented design like learning good object-oriented design is all about that.

Next, we've got algorithms and data structures.

You don't have to know all of this stuff, but you should know exactly at least what

an array is, linked list, stack, queue, tree, hashes, sets.

You should know about those data structures and how to use them.

These are things that you learn in the computer science college course.

I've actually got a really good recommendation for this.

I have a resource—a friend of mine, it's called Interview Cake.

If you don't know algorithms and data structures, if you're having problems doing the programming,

related algorithm problems, the kind of interview stuff that you'd see at Microsoft or Google,

solving these problems, rearranging strings, all this stuff and using data structures,

go to Interview Cake.

Again, in the description.

Their link will be in the description.

That's what you want to do because that is the best resource, by far, for this.

I used to recommend Cracking the Coding Interview.

I still do.

It's a good book, but this is better.

Interview Cake is what it's called and use the link that I sent you because that link

is my affiliate link, and I like it when you do that.

I like it because not only does it make money for Simple Programmer, which is good because

then I can make more videos and do more stuff, but it also lets me know like how many of

you are benefiting from it because I get a report on saying how many people actually

clicked the link.

I want to know like are you finding the stuff valuable that I'm promoting because I find

it extremely, extremely valuable.

I'm transparent.

I'm honest.

I'm telling you what—you know, you got a question?

I'll fucking answer it.

I'll tell you what I'm talking about.

I make some money with links, of course.

Of course, it's a business.

What was I going to say here?

So yeah.

Algorithms, data structures.

Really, really important.

Most software developers are ill equipped in this area.

If you're a computer science graduate, if you got your degree, you've probably gone

through some of the stuff, but it still doesn't hurt to really make sure that you have an

in-depth knowledge of this.

Not just for passing interviews, but what you'll find is that in coding life, in writing

code that you won't even realize that this knowledge will make you so much better of

a developer because once you know algorithms and data structures, you'll suddenly all these

places to apply it that you didn't see before.

You didn't know that you're missing the skeleton key that could unlock this door.

Next one I have here is development platform and related technologies.

What do I mean by this?

Is that you need to pick some kind of operating system or development platform that you can

develop for.

It's good to pick a programming language, but let's say that you pick—I don't know—well,

I mean most of them are kind of tied.

Most programming languages are tied to some platform, but you got to pick something.

I was going to say like let's say you picked Swift.

If you pick Swift, it's iOS, probably, but you could learn Objective C and be a Mac OS

developer or you could learn C# and you could develop for Xamarin, for .NET or I mean for

iPhone and Android, or you can learn C# and develop for .NET on Max, if you want now,

you can.

Pick a platform.

Pick an operating system.

Maybe it's Linux.

Maybe it's Mac OS.

Maybe it is—is that what they're calling it now?

Are they calling it Mac OS?

I think they are.

Maybe it's Windows.

Maybe it's iPhone.

Maybe it's Android.

It doesn't necessarily have to be an operating system, but it's some kind of development

platform, so that you've got some environment that you're actually learning and you understand.

Because most of the time when you're programming, you're not just programming in a void.

You're not just doing out—C out.

Throwback C++ stuff, but we're not just writing to the console.

We're not just writing to the command line.

We're actually like using the APIs of an operating system or using some kind of framework, or

something like that.

You see what I'm saying?

You need to have some kind of operating system or some kind of ecosystem that you specialize

and that you're an expert in, so that you can use it.

A lot of times, like I said, the choice of programming language is going to determine

the platform, but you got to have some kind of platform.

The next one here is a framework or stack.

This is closely related, but what I mean by this is that when I talk about the stack,

what it means is it's a set of technologies that work together that people use that are

commonly used.

One stack is a LAMP stack which is Linux Apache, MongoDB, PHP.

Right?

Okay, think I got that.

Okay.

There's a lot of different stacks out there, right?

What it means is like, " What are you using from the front end?

What are you using in the middleware and what are you using in the back end?"

What is the stack?

What is the database technology?

What is the front end and programming language that you're using and what frameworks?

Right?

There's a bunch of JavaScript stacks using Angular and JavaScript and Node.js and MongoDB

or whatever kind of database.

There's a lot of different stacks out there.

Pick one that people are commonly using that is from—don't invent your own stack and

become an expert or learn how to develop a net stack, because the thing is—again, if

you learn a programming language, that's useful, that's great, but we're not doing just console

apps for the most part.

If you learn a programming language in a development platform, that's great as well.

Maybe you can build an iOS app.

Okay, great.

What most companies and most real-world development is they're using some kind of stack.

They're using some kind of stack, the full stack.

Knowing the programming language, knowing a platform and knowing the framework or stack

is going to be the most valuable because that's what real world programming is.

You got to learn some kind of framework or stack as a developer.

Next, we're almost at the end here, actually, but we're not.

This is going to be a long video, my friends.

I will not spend too much time on each one, but these are important.

Basic database knowledge.

Almost every single developer today, almost every single software developer needs to have

some kind of database knowledge.

You need to know SQL.

You need to know relational databases.

I know that everyone loves document databases and no SQL, and that's great, but most of

the time you're still going to be working with the relational databases.

That's the majority of databases out there.

Now, it's great to learn document database technology and what not, but you got to learn

some kind of database technology.

You got to learn some database theory because most developers are going to have to fetch

data from the database, and most developers are going to have to put data into the database.

That's a lot of what you're going to be doing and you can't just rely on someone else

to do that for you or libraries.

You have to understand how this stuff works because most commercial applications, like

I said—especially, SAS applications today which is the majority of applications.

Even mobile applications have some kind of database and some kind of interaction that

you need to deal with it.

Next one, source control.

Again, this is one of those areas where you don't have to be an absolute expert, but

you got to understand stuff like Git.

Probably, Git is probably where most of you are going to be at today, but it's more than

just Git.

It's source control concepts.

It's the idea of checking things in, checking things out, merging branches, all of this

kind of stuff, versioning, complex.

If you become good at this, it's going to be important because every single job that

you take as a software developer, you're going to be using source control.

If you're constantly like not understanding, you got to get someone to help you with source

control all the time, that's not good.

You're going to be asked about source control on the interview.

You're going to use it from day-to-day operations.

Source control is something that you need to know, absolutely.

Build and deployment.

This is another one that I think a lot of software developers don't think that they

need to know anything about, but they do.

Today, we have DevOps.

I think I've talked about DevOps before.

Essentially, today, the software developers are expected to know how to actually build

the software and how to deploy that software.

They can't just throw it over the wall and throw it to the operations team.

Now, you have to sort of know how this stuff works.

You have to know how the continuous integration server works, how it builds your code and

all these things.

It's not complicated stuff, but you got to know this stuff.

You got to know how the build works, how the deployment works.

Some basics of this stuff so you can troubleshoot things, so that you're not the one breaking

the bill all the time.

Next up, another one.

Testing.

You got to know some basics, again, of testing.

More and more as we're working on Agile teams and then doing Agile development and

software development space.

Testing is important for everyone to understand because developers have to be able to test

their own stuff.

You got to know the basic concepts of testing and how to do it and how to test your own

code.

Also, how to test other people's code because, like I said, when in an Agile environment,

the focus is on the team.

You're going to probably have to do some testing.

You're probably going to have to make sure that you can test the code and you're going

to do that every week.

It's not like we have this big testing phase at the end like we did with waterfall development

with Agile development, testing is happening all the time.

Understanding that is really important.

Next up—plus it's going to make you a better developer overall.

Debugging.

This one is tough.

Again, a lot of developers don't actually spend time learning how to debug.

I've got a whole chapter in the book here in The Complete Software Developer's Career

Guide on debugging.

I'd recommend you check that out if you want to find out and know what I think is the best

way to debug, but you got to learn how to do it.

You got to become a good debugger.

You're going to spend majority of your time fixing bugs as a software developer.

Fixing bugs that you wrote.

There's this T-shirt and I'm trying to remember what it said.

It was like—I'm kind of like—It was like the detective in the murder mystery, except

that I'm also the killer.

That's what it's like being a developer because you're actually creating the bugs and you're

solving the murder that you actually committed in the code.

Learn how to debug.

Next up: Methodologies.

We're almost at the end here.

Methodology is another one that's really important.

You need to understand Agile and Scrum, and software development methodologies, how that—the

process of actually building the code today because it's not just that simple.

It's not just your job is to write code.

You even need to understand the actual the life cycle, how this stuff work and actually

be good at it.

If you understand Scrum and the principles of Scrum if you're working on a Scrum team,

you're going to be a lot more valuable of a developer than someone who just like, "Okay.

Well, what are we supposed to do?

What is the story point or how does this work?"

Understanding methodologies.

Again, I have it in this book, but not just understanding them like how they work but

why.

Why do we use certain methodologies in software development and why are they effective?

Yeah.

That's about it for these technical skills you need to have as a software developer.

Hopefully, you found that useful again.

You can find all that and more in the Complete Software Developer's Career Guide, but, yeah.

There's a lot to know.

It can be overwhelming.

I understand this, but you don't have to know everything, but these are kind of—what

I gave you in this video and in the book, in the chapter, is the things that I think

are critical that you need to know that every single software developer is going to need

to know.

These are the technical skills that are absolutely essential, because if you don't know these

things, you're not going to be able to operate in the real world as a software developer

because these are the things that you do when you use every single day and they're going

to make you effective.

All right.

8 Simple Tips to Get Rid of Flab in No Time

Flab is a problem that we all end up facing sooner or later.

However, you can fight it if you follow these simple tips.

Take notes and youll get rid of it in no time.

Just watch!. Bet on protein.

To lose weight, youll have to lose fat and not muscle, so eating well is fundamental.

In order to do this, youll have to eat protein, a nutrient youll find in foods such as:.

Eggs Chicken Turkey Salmon Almonds.

Antioxidant-filled foods.

Remember that you should never cut antioxidant-rich foods out of your diet.

With these foods, youll even get younger-looking skin, conserving its elasticity and firmness.

Add these into your daily diet:.

Berries Citrus fruits and kiwi (rich in vitamin C and collagen) Apples Cucumbers Olives Orange vegetables (pumpkin, carrots).

Stay away from junk food.

Junk food contains a lot of saturated fat, which sets you up for fluid retention, something that tends to be a contributing factor in weight gain and flab.

To fix this problem, all you have to do is reduce your consumption of junk food.

Drink water and protect yourself from the sun.

Drinking the water your body needs every day is essential to keep yourself hydrated.

Keep in mind that the loss of collagen leads to flabbiness, and this can be avoided if you consume the water your body needs.

In addition, its also very important to avoid too much sun exposure because it will make your skin lose its natural collagen.

In addition, dont forget to take care of your skin by using sunscreen if youre going to be in the sun.

Exercise.

Along with eating well, you should also try to keep your muscles toned.

Theres nothing like exercise to gain strength.

You have a ton of options, so just find one that works for you.

All you have to do is take an hour and a half out of your week for it.

Its not much time, and yet its enough to get the job done.

Actually, it will work even better if you do it 3 times a week at high intensity.

Ice, your best friend.

If youre looking to fight flab, ice may just turn into your best friend.

If you give yourself an ice treatment, youll be toning your skin and firming certain areas like your breasts.

Wrap the ice in a cloth so that it doesnt come in direct contact with your skin.

The next step is to make gentle circular massaging motions on your chest, carefully but with light pressure.

Do this for 5 minutes and repeat every day to get the results you want.

Say goodbye to bad habits.

Of course, some things are important to avoid and these are your bad habits.

Some of them are unhealthy and linked to a greater tendency to have sagging breasts.

A few of them are:.

Wearing bras that are too loose Eating a diet too high in fat Having a sedentary lifestyle Smoking Drinking alcoholic beverages in excess Tanning too much.

Take advantage of flax seeds.

Heres a solution using flax seeds that will help you fight flab.

To take advantage of it, well form a paste.

Ingredients.

2 tablespoons of flax seeds (20 g) 4 tablespoons of hot water (40 ml) 2 drops of cypress essential oil.

Preparation.

Grind the flax seeds Heat the water and mix it with the flax powder.

Then, add the cypress essential oil to the paste.

Application.

Take the necessary amount of the mixture and spread it onto the flabby area of your skin.

Next, cover it with plastic wrap for ease.

After 15 minutes, rinse it off with plenty of warm water.

Repeat twice a week.

Youll see its very easy and has great results.

The simple decluttering trick everyone should do on NYE | news 24h - Duration: 4:43.

Have you tried the 'Reverse Hanger Hack'? The VERY simple New Year's Eve decluttering trick wowing thousands online - and it takes just five minutes to complete

With New Years celebrations just hours away, many homeowners are rushing to overhaul their homes and declutter for a refreshing start to 2018.

And while many simply clean out Christmas leftovers or pop some washing on, one Australian decluttering expert has shared a very simple hack that is guaranteed to help people stay organised in 2018.

Anita Birges, the founder of Mise en Place, has dubbed the clever technique the Reverse Hanger Hack.

Anita Birges, the founder of Mise en Place, has shared a very simple hack that is guaranteed to help people stay organised in 2018.

Simply put, the technique involves turning all clothing hangers the same way at the start of the year and as pieces are worn, the hangers are turned the other direction.

As a result, it is clear to see what pieces are rarely worn and therefore the best ones to sell, donate to charity or throw out.

Taking to her Facebook page in a live stream, Ms Birges took her followers through the process and explained why the simple five minute trick was so helpful.

Simply put, the technique involves turning all clothing hangers the same way at the start of the year .

This is how it should look on January 1st and as pieces are worn, they should be placed back in the wardrobe facing the other direction  .

Im going to teach you something called the reverse hanger hack.

This is the last thing you need to do on the 30th of December every year, she explained.

I have washed my dishes and done my laundry so the new year starts calm, decluttered, organised and fresh.

You are going to take your clothes and get your hangers and reverse them so the open end of your hanger is now facing outwards.

Turn them from the inside out. .

Every time you wear a piece of clothing now - say I want to wear this red top - I am going to take it off and wear it and when I put it back I put it with the open end back to normal.

Every time you wear a piece of clothing now - say I want to wear this red top - I am going to take it off and wear it and when I put it back I put it with the open end back to normal, she said.

In six months - set your clock a timer today for the 30th of June, 2018 - come back and look at what clothes have been reversed, Ms Birges said .

In six months - set your clock a timer today for the 30th of June, 2018 - come back and look at what clothes have been reversed.

Ms Birges urges everyone to follow the technique and see how much of a difference it makes to their organisation in six months.

In six months I am going to know exactly what Ive worn.

Everything that hasnt been turned around will be donated or sold, she said. . That is my tip to end your year.

You are going to have a wonderful 2018 and in six months we will come back, give away the things we dont use and keep our lives organised and decluttered..
