South Korea's trade ministry is holding its second public hearing on possible amendments

to the free trade agreement between South Korea and the United States.

Our Kim Hyesung joins us on the line from the Coex Convention Center in southern Seoul.

Hyesung, can you walk us through the key points of the hearing so far....

Hi, Mark.

The public hearing started at 9:30am sharp.

It started with presentations by trade and legal experts, and was followed by a panel

discussion.

The trade ministry unveiled its economic feasibility studies on the Korea-U.S. FTA.

With regards to the agricultural sector, it said agricultural imports from the U.S. increased

by a yearly average of 15 percent, or 940 million U.S. dollars, between 2012 and 2016...

compared to the 2007 and 2011 period, the five year period before the FTA went into

effect in 2012.

The report also said U.S. beef imports have surged 124 percent since the FTA took effect.

Basically, the report said Korea's agriculture sector should be exempted from the renegotiations.

As for the manufacturing sector, experts said Korea's exports to the U.S., saw a surplus,

mostly from the automobile sector, while steel and petrochemical industry exports dropped.

The report argued the trade surplus is not because of lower tariffs from the FTA, but

because of Korea's competitiveness in those manufactured goods.

Basically, the government's main point is that they will not just be on the defense

when it comes to the renegotiations, it will protect its agricultural industry, and also

address the antidumping issues raised by the Trump Administration, according to the WTO

regulations.

What's the mood like?

The first gathering last month was disrupted by furious farmers, right?

Right, the first public hearing on November 10th ended in less than 30 minutes due to

a disruption by angry farmers and livestock breeders.

Agricultural representatives held a press conference half-an-hour before the meeting,

at nine a.m. calling for the termination of the Korea-U.S. FTA, and even interrupted before

the panel talks began at 9 40 a.m.

After some fuss, the meeting restarted.

Today, unlike the first hearing, agricultural representatives were also given seats at the

panel talks, who raised their concerns over Korea's livestock industry.

I'll have more updates later in the day.

Back to you, Mark.

As for the manufacturing sector, Korea's exports to the U.S., saw a surplus,... mostly from

the automobile sector,... while steel and petrochemical exports dropped.

(Korean) "Korea's manufacturing trade surplus is not

because of lower tariffs from the FTA, but mainly due to the U.S.'s lack of competitiveness

in its machinery and automobile exports to Korea, as evidenced by the lower technological

specialization index in those goods."

The trade ministry also added that it will not just be on the defense when it comes to

the renegotiations.

Rather, it's eager to use the opportunity to raise the issue of anti-dumping tariffs

from the Trump Administration, expand work visas for skilled laborers,... and renegotiate

terms of the services industry,... according to WTO regulations.

(standup) Public hearing has come to an end.

Now, the trade ministry will finalize its process of gathering public opinion, draft

its Korea-U.S. FTA renegotiation strategy and report it to the National Assembly this

month, all part of the legal procedures to start a possible renegotiation with the U.S.

Brian Kelly accepts the National Aeronautic Association 2017 Public Benefit Flying Teamwork Award - Duration: 2:29.

First I'd like to express a heartfelt thank you to the National Aeronautic Association

and the Air Carolinas opportunity to recognize the hard work of volunteers that put their

personal money and time into helping our fellow man at a time of great need.

A number of established and new organizations came together in historic effort to deliver

the necessary help to those affected by this year's hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.

No one single organization could have done this alone.

It took all of us coordinating together.

Our groups were able to help reach victims when no one else could through the flooded

roadways and highways.

All we needed was 3 to 5 thousand feet of runway, and we had supplies delivered.

Sometimes in as little as four hours from the time the request was received.

General aviation made it happen.

No other industry or organization could have made that happen but we did.

We made connections with airport manager, charities and pilots from every state around

the country.

We even provided assistance to the national guard on the ground.

We went from six degrees of separation to averaging one or two by the end of the week.

The key to our success was a true sense of teamwork, and building relationships.

We trust in each other.

We relied on one another.

We believed the best in each other.

And that allowed us to make things happen quickly.

Everyone reached out, and everyone really gave their time and resources.

We all shared our information on phone calls, emails, and social media.

We didn't do this for money or recognition, we did this because we all had a desire to

serve.

We were able to connect our separate grassroots networks to achieve a common goal of quickly

delivering essential supplies and we accomplished this using every type of airplane.

I am humbled to accept this award on behalf of the thousands of men and women who did

not hesitate to answer the call for help for their fellow man.

They truly showed how to love your neighbor as yourself.

I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge that these servants were sent by God to put

his love on display.

In the end, we're able to demonstrate that general aviation is truly an untapped strategic

national resource.

Thank you.

The 2018 World Cup in Russia is still more than six months away,... but anticipation

is rising ahead of the final draw... which will take place later tonight.

The 32 teams in the tournament will be sorted into eight different groups,... and fans here

in Korea are hoping for luck to play its part... in helping them avoid a 'group of death' scenario.

Yu Joonhee reports.

The draw for the 2018 Russia World Cup... will get underway at the Kremlin in Moscow,...

at the stroke of midnight here in Korea.

It will introduce a new, simplified format... with the 32 teams being placed in four pots

according their FIFA rankings as of the end of October.

The one exception of course is Russia,... which has an automatic place in pot 1 as the

host nation.

South Korea,... as the team with the second-lowest FIFA ranking among qualified nations,... will

be in pot 4.

Much of the focus will be on which team from pot 2... will be drawn alongside South Korea...

as it includes a number of powerhouses such Spain, England, Colombia and Uruguay.

Former England striker Gary Lineker will be hosting the event,... and a number of other

famous stars will be helping with the draw,... including Diego Maradona, Laurent Blanc, Fabio

Cannavaro and Cafu just to name a few.

But despite Korean fans hoping for an easy draw... to help their odds of playing deep

into the tournament,... every group will be tough and contested fiercely.

(Korean) "All of the teams are stronger, so we'll need

to double or triple our preparations if we're to have a good chance."

Russia says that World Cup preparations are generally on-track,... and despite some delay

in the construction of venues,... authorities have promised they will be completed on time.

In the meantime, football fans around the world are holding their collective breath...

while awaiting their fate in the draw... for the planet's biggest sporting event.

Project Veritas succeeds in making public wary of media, founder James O'Keefe says - Duration: 4:21.

Project Veritas succeeds in making public wary of media, founder James O'Keefe says

James O'Keefe, founder of the conservative nonprofit group Project Veritas, apparently remains unbowed after the Washington Post claimed it had foiled an undercover operation by OKeefes group.

Project Veritas reportedly tried to entice the Post into reporting on false allegations against Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore.

But in speaking to a crowd at the Southern Methodist University in Texas on Wednesday, O'Keefe dismissed the significance of the Post's story chronicling the hoax.

I dont have an opinion on it, honestly.

I cant speak intelligently about it.

The Washington Post seems to want a Nobel Prize for vetting a source correctly.

Our work is sort of changing human nature and making people cautious, he said.

Project Veritas has a history of using disguises and hidden cameras to uncover supposed liberal bias among reporters and left-leaning organzations.

It has targeted groups ranging from Planned Parenthood, teachers' unions, and most famously, the community organizing non-profit ACORN.

But the group has been criticized for selectively editing its videos in order to push a conservative narrative.

Most recently, the group was foiled Monday after it allegedly tried to convince Washington Post reporters that a woman named Jaime Phillips was impregnated at age 15 by Moore and was convinced to have an abortion.

The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that the efforts to infiltrate the paper dated back a few months.

Phillips had been confronted by a Post reported about inconsistencies her testimony and was later seen entering Project Veritas' offices in Mamaroneck, N.Y.

The Washington Post was the first news media organization to report accusations that Moore sought to date teenage girls while in his early 30s.

The allegations have rocked the special election campaign for the Senate seat in Alabama.

OKeefe admitted that his group was behind the hoax aimed at the Post, saying "our cover was blown.

OKeefe said in an interview with AP that Monday's failed attempt was part of a broader project to use deception as a means to gain access to news organizations including the Washington Post, the New York Times, and CNN, among others.

If were doing something on The Washington Post, its in the context of getting them on tape to tell the truth and to admit either their biases or how the paper works or how honest they are, he said.

Another OKeefe project led to the demise of ACORN, a community organizing group that OKeefe negatively portrayed via hidden camera videos.

He corded with a hidden video camera as he brought a young woman posing as a prostitute to the groups offices.

OKeefe later agreed to pay $100,000 to settle a lawsuit based on the ACORN incident.

Mediclinic's Partnership with the Public Sector Gains Momentum - Duration: 4:01.

Imagine if your vision progressively worsens until the whole world is blurry

that is what cataract patients see. Sometimes [I] feel dizzy.

At times the person becomes blurry in front of me then I become a bit moody.

I'm supposed to go next year July. I've got a date on my card.

And Rene from Groote Schuur Hospital phoned me.

She told me, a Dr Gerber is going to do an operation

for you at Mediclinic Durbanville: I couldn't believe my ears.

I was ecstatic.

My daughter-in-law said after this operation I will look at her and see that she is prettier than what I thought.

We are at Mediclinic Durbanville Day Clinic

This is a facility where we do same day operations.

This means we do small cases like ENT, tonsillectomies, small urology cases and eye surgery.

We are privileged to be part of this public-private project. We find it extremely rewarding to interact with the

patients after their procedures. To make such a huge difference in the lives of

patients because we believe that our purpose is to enhance the quality of

lives of patients and that's exactly what we had the opportunity to do.

This is more than just about cataract surgery, it's about creating sustainable partnerships

with the public sector so that we can help alleviate the backlog of medical issues

within the province and within South Africa. That's our commitment in terms of

Mediclinic wanting to partner with government.

It's good to see our Groote Schuur patients here at Mediclinic.

We're very grateful to Mediclinic for giving them this opportunity to get their operations much

sooner than they would have had they waited to have it at Groote Schuur

I feel a sense of excitement among them and I can feel their gratitude.

Cataracts is a progressive thickening of the natural lense in the eye and as you grow

older it becomes denser and denser until the window of the eye

becomes so opaque that you can't see anything. The type of surgery depends on how dense

the cataract is. With early cataracts we do a procedure called

phacoemulsification which, in simple terms, is a micro-incision surgery technique

where we break up the cataract with sonar. Then you suck it up.

If the cataracts progress where you have people that they can only see hand

movements or count fingers, you can't use ultrasound to break it up as the

cataract is too hard then you need to make a bigger incision and take the

cataract out as a whole and we do have two patients today where that is the case.

Sight is probably the most important sense that a person has.

Being able to restore vision for these patients and to try to

improve their life in itself makes (me) feel much better.

I didn't really feel any pain with the injection.

I couldn't even feel him removing the cataract.

I was still waiting for him to start and then he was already finished!
