There are moments when you have to move from where you came from

to an unfamiliar place

so you pack all you things, ride a taxi to the airport let the departure sign guide you

then hop on a plane

upon arrival you feel all those welcome signs

On my first day there was this girl in the hallway who was walking the opposite direction

She bumped me in the shoulders then rolled her eyes

I believed it was on purpose, and I should've said something... But I didn't

I walked in class and saw an open seat

but apparently it was taken

I found a spot then settled

In the corner of my eyes I could see the girl staring at me

She went to write something on a paper

she threw it to me

I opened up the crumpled paper only to find very harsh words directed at me

People started snickering, so I looked around... Embarrassed of who I am

She confronted me the next day ..

What do you want from me?

Do you really think you belong here?

I mean -

Go back to where you came from

Honestly-

Look at you, you're white. Do you really think you fit here?

Was my race really a problem?

I felt the need to speak up, and so I did

What is your problem? Are you really creating an issue out of skin colour?

Cause that matters right? Cause we're all different?

Your people started it, how would you feel if i was in your country?

Well i wouldn't mind, because i would have respect for the people who have differences, unlike you.

You know what, just stay out of my way.

discrimination

the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people

especially on the grounds of race

do people really think that members of each race posses the same characteristics

does race even exist?

why do we have it in the first place?

Look around, and open your eyes.

We are all different, and thats what makes us special

So instead of putting each other down and tearing each other apart,

Build and protect the unity between people of all races,

Between Humankind

Brian Kelly accepts the National Aeronautic Association 2017 Public Benefit Flying Teamwork Award - Duration: 2:29.

First I'd like to express a heartfelt thank you to the National Aeronautic Association

and the Air Carolinas opportunity to recognize the hard work of volunteers that put their

personal money and time into helping our fellow man at a time of great need.

A number of established and new organizations came together in historic effort to deliver

the necessary help to those affected by this year's hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.

No one single organization could have done this alone.

It took all of us coordinating together.

Our groups were able to help reach victims when no one else could through the flooded

roadways and highways.

All we needed was 3 to 5 thousand feet of runway, and we had supplies delivered.

Sometimes in as little as four hours from the time the request was received.

General aviation made it happen.

No other industry or organization could have made that happen but we did.

We made connections with airport manager, charities and pilots from every state around

the country.

We even provided assistance to the national guard on the ground.

We went from six degrees of separation to averaging one or two by the end of the week.

The key to our success was a true sense of teamwork, and building relationships.

We trust in each other.

We relied on one another.

We believed the best in each other.

And that allowed us to make things happen quickly.

Everyone reached out, and everyone really gave their time and resources.

We all shared our information on phone calls, emails, and social media.

We didn't do this for money or recognition, we did this because we all had a desire to

serve.

We were able to connect our separate grassroots networks to achieve a common goal of quickly

delivering essential supplies and we accomplished this using every type of airplane.

I am humbled to accept this award on behalf of the thousands of men and women who did

not hesitate to answer the call for help for their fellow man.

They truly showed how to love your neighbor as yourself.

I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge that these servants were sent by God to put

his love on display.

In the end, we're able to demonstrate that general aviation is truly an untapped strategic

national resource.

Thank you.

Mediclinic's Partnership with the Public Sector Gains Momentum - Duration: 4:01.

Imagine if your vision progressively worsens until the whole world is blurry

that is what cataract patients see. Sometimes [I] feel dizzy.

At times the person becomes blurry in front of me then I become a bit moody.

I'm supposed to go next year July. I've got a date on my card.

And Rene from Groote Schuur Hospital phoned me.

She told me, a Dr Gerber is going to do an operation

for you at Mediclinic Durbanville: I couldn't believe my ears.

I was ecstatic.

My daughter-in-law said after this operation I will look at her and see that she is prettier than what I thought.

We are at Mediclinic Durbanville Day Clinic

This is a facility where we do same day operations.

This means we do small cases like ENT, tonsillectomies, small urology cases and eye surgery.

We are privileged to be part of this public-private project. We find it extremely rewarding to interact with the

patients after their procedures. To make such a huge difference in the lives of

patients because we believe that our purpose is to enhance the quality of

lives of patients and that's exactly what we had the opportunity to do.

This is more than just about cataract surgery, it's about creating sustainable partnerships

with the public sector so that we can help alleviate the backlog of medical issues

within the province and within South Africa. That's our commitment in terms of

Mediclinic wanting to partner with government.

It's good to see our Groote Schuur patients here at Mediclinic.

We're very grateful to Mediclinic for giving them this opportunity to get their operations much

sooner than they would have had they waited to have it at Groote Schuur

I feel a sense of excitement among them and I can feel their gratitude.

Cataracts is a progressive thickening of the natural lense in the eye and as you grow

older it becomes denser and denser until the window of the eye

becomes so opaque that you can't see anything. The type of surgery depends on how dense

the cataract is. With early cataracts we do a procedure called

phacoemulsification which, in simple terms, is a micro-incision surgery technique

where we break up the cataract with sonar. Then you suck it up.

If the cataracts progress where you have people that they can only see hand

movements or count fingers, you can't use ultrasound to break it up as the

cataract is too hard then you need to make a bigger incision and take the

cataract out as a whole and we do have two patients today where that is the case.

Sight is probably the most important sense that a person has.

Being able to restore vision for these patients and to try to

improve their life in itself makes (me) feel much better.

I didn't really feel any pain with the injection.

I couldn't even feel him removing the cataract.

I was still waiting for him to start and then he was already finished!

Public Affairs Events - 7:21:47 PM - 7:26:12 PM - Duration: 4:25.

senator from Oregon.

Mr. Wyden: We're going to have

several of our colleagues on our

side take five minutes each and

we're going to start with

senator Sanders.

Mr. Sanders: Mr. President, as I

think about what's going on here

today, I think this is in many

ways a historic day, a day that

historians will look back on

December 1, 2007.

And they will conclude that

today is a day of one of the

great robberies act of criminal

activities if you like in the

modern history of this country

because the federal treasury is

being looted tonight.

As we speak, there are lobbyists

all over capitol hill writing

down in handwriting amendments

to this bill to give hundreds of

millions if not billions of tax

breaks, billions of dollars in

tax breaks to large

corporations.

As we speak they're probably

still writing those amendments.

Meanwhile, the senate-led --

this republican-led senate has

been unable to reauthorize the

chip program, the health

insurance program for low-income

children.

Didn't have enough time to do

that.

We have been unable to

reauthorize the community health

center program providing 27

million people with health

insurance.

We don't have the time to do

that.

But tonight we are presumably

going to pass legislation when

at a time of massive income and

wealth inequality, 62% of the

tax benefits go to the top 1%.

And ten years from now, ten

years from now, millions and

millions of middle-class

Americans will be paying more in

taxes.

Mr. President, I have not the

slightest doubt as I have said

before, that after the

Republicans pass this huge tax

giveaway to the wealthy and

large corporations, they will be

back on the floor of the senate.

And when they come back, they'll

say oh, my goodness, the deficit

is too high.

We have got to cut social

security, medicare, medicaid,

education, and nutritional

programs.

In other words, in order to give

tax breaks to billionaires and

to large profitable corporation,

they're going to cut programs

for the elderly, the children,

the working families of this

country, and the poor.

This legislation will go down in

history as one of the worst,

most unfair pieces of

legislation ever passed.

But I say to my Republican

colleagues as you saw on

November 7, the American people

are catching on.

They are demanding a government

which does not simply work for

corporate lobbyists but works

for the middle class.

They are demanding a tax system

which says to the wealthy and

large corporations, you are

going to start paying your fair

share of taxes and that no,

we're not going to cut social

security.

We're going to expand social

security.

We're not going to cut medicare.

We are going to move to a

medicare for all health care

system.

The American people are catching

on.

And while the Republicans may

get away with this act of

looting tonight, history is not

on their side.

The day will come and it will

come sooner than later when we

are going to have a government

here that represents all of us,

not just the Koch brothers, not

just the billionaire class, not

just wealthy campaign
