this is a tutorial on how to merge the
Chicago hotel Revit files so once you
open up both Revit files the exterior in
the core Revit file the first thing that
you want to do is double check that the
core file is all set so something that
you need to check is to make sure your
floors have holes in them for the
elevator shafts and stairs as well as
your ceiling so you want your ceilings
to have those holes as well and then the
bottom floor should be cut out
in addition so once you are all set with
that what you want to do is hide any
exterior walls and other elements that
you don't want to copy over to your
other file hi this okay and then once
you know that your ceiling is right
beneath the floor you can then hide that
floor and then just keep that lower one
so this is kind of everything that you
want to see and what I'm going to do is
I'm going to highlight everything and go
to copy to clipboard
once I do that I am going to minimize
this view and open up my exterior Revit
file the exterior Revit file to get it
all set up you want to be in 3d view
while you're in 3d view please turn it
to hit in line and make sure that you
hide your site and everything else you
just want to see your building and then
you want to hide two sides of your
building so I'm going to work with my
front side and then I'm going to hide
that and I want to hide my right side
that's going to be the easiest to copy
it so I'm going to hide and then I'm
going to rotate it around I'm going to
hide this wall all right and then I'm
going to go to my front view to get
ready to then copy in my floor plan now
you will click the paste button just so
you know you have other options if you
want to try and floor plan but I found
doing an elevation is the easiest way to
check into
minimize things going wrong so I'm just
going to place from clipboard and I'm
going to let it load if anything pops up
just hit okay once it is done loading
Revit is pretty smart and it kind of
found where it should go so that's
actually looking like all my levels are
lined up so I'm going to put it exactly
where that blue dotted line is however
yours mine may not be the same so you
want to try to place it as close as
possible to where you want it to go zoom
in here and click then before I ever hit
the finish button I'm going to zoom out
and I'm going to check that it's kind of
lining up where it should go I'm going
to rotate around again it might move a
little bit of slow and I'm realizing
it's not quite hitting my exterior wall
so I'm going to click on the move tool
and I'm going to move that straight over
to my exterior wall so now it snaps on
it and that looks pretty good from here
and I'm going to hit finish if anything
pops up that's ok all right so now I can
kind of check it out in 3d view look
like it went in pretty well and now your
next steps are to work on fixing up your
floor plan so when I go onto my 4 ply
mode I might need to extend my floor out
maybe extend my walls and push some of
my furniture out so that's kind of
you'll start editing that and then when
you are ready to copy up all your levels
you'll go back to your 3d view you are
going to hide anything that you do not
want to copy up to all the levels so
that is my X to your walls any stairs or
elevator shafts that go all the way up
I'm going to start hiding that these
exterior walls I don't want to see ok so
I'm going to hide anything that I don't
want to copy all the levels
okay so that's everything that I want to
copy up so now I can highlight copy to
clipboard then I'm going to open up my
level 3 something's going on a little
bit there so I'm going to go to level 4
and I'm going to check out level 3 in a
second and then I'm going to paste and
I'm going to line two selected views and
I'm going to go 4 through 12
because level 13 is my top floor which
will have something different so I'm
going to do all those levels and hit OK
and then you just have to wait and let
it process all that and once it is done
and is copied I'm going to go to my 3d
view to check it out and it looks like
it did a really good job it looks like I
could have even copied up this one my
walls looked a little bit off so I'm
going to do that one by hand and just
copy it the same way I just did so I'm
just going to do this copy to clipboard
go to my level 3 so I'm going to a line
to current view let that go and then
once that is done you can then go to
each level and if need be kind of extend
your walls move furniture or change the
floors as needed okay so now looks like
I have a complete hotel building going
once you are done with this please save
this Revit file as a brand new name save
as and I'm going to save this as Chicago
hotel merged file today's date and then
my initials and I'm going to save that
then I can share this with my partner
maybe something went wrong with theirs
or they're a little bit behind I'll
share it with them and then you will
start working on your first floor or top
floor depending on which one you are
assigned to and that concludes this
tutorial
