When Kate Middleton first joined the royal family, it was the talk of the town, and people
around the world watched the royal wedding.
Now, another royal wedding is upon us, and this time, Meghan Markle is the new addition
to the family.
While Markle and her soon-to-be sister-in-law may not seem that close, the ladies have more
in common than you'd think.
Plus, Markle will be able to learn a lot from Middleton.
Let's take a closer look at the future royal in-laws' relationship.
Secret get-togethers
It can be hard to get out of the house unnoticed with press and paparazzi everywhere trying
to grab a photo.
But, luckily for Prince Harry and Markle, that wasn't an issue when it came to spending
time with Prince William and Middleton.
The brothers are neighbors, which makes secret get-together events much easier to plan.
Prince Harry and Markle opened up about this during an interview with BBC, sharing that
William and his wife have been very welcoming to Markle.
The future bride described her new sister as "wonderful" throughout this process.
"Absolutely thrilled"
It's not just Markle that has good things to say about her future sister; Middleton
has shared her positive thoughts on the engaged couple as well.
Reporters spoke to her just a day after the engagement announcement, and Middleton gushed:
"William and I are absolutely thrilled, it's such exciting news.
It's a really happy time for any couple and we wish them all the best and hope they enjoy
this happy moment."
New holiday tradition
Christmas was an exciting time for Markle, who spent the holiday with her fiancée and
future family for the first time.
As a source told Us Weekly,
"Harry asked the queen for permission last month and she is delighted to have Harry bring
his fiancée.
It is a family occasion, after all, and Meghan is very much family now."
Harry and Markle stayed with William and Middleton, giving the future sisters even more time to
get to know each other.
And this is just the first year.
There's plenty of time for Middleton and Markle to create their own traditions together, too.
Royal spotlight
Markle is familiar with being in the spotlight from her time as an actor, but being a part
of the royal family is a whole new level of fame and attention.
As she gears up for the Royal Wedding, she's making adjustments in her life that Middleton
similarly had to make in the past.
As a royal insider shared with Hollywood Life,
"Kate knows better than anyone how overwhelming and challenging it can be to make the transition
into being a member of the royal family, and she's vowed to assist Meghan in any way she
can."
Trendy versus traditional
It's obvious looking at Middleton and Markle that their clothing styles are a bit different.
While Middleton has a more traditional, British look, Markle goes for a contemporary, trendy
style.
And while the overall looks have major differences, the effect of these clothing choices is pretty
similar.
As Business Insider reported, Middleton's fashion picks have led to the "Duchess Effect,"
meaning, when she wears a certain piece of clothing, it immediately sells out.
Now, her new sister-in-law has caused "The Meghan Effect."
When Markle wore a coat by designer Line during her engagement announcement, so many people
tried to buy the coat that the designer's website crashed.
Wedding party
With Markle's wedding planning underway, what will Middleton's role be in the ceremony?
There's a pretty good chance she won't be a bridesmaid.
But no worries — that doesn't mean Markle doesn't want Middleton in the wedding.
It just goes back to tradition.
As a royalty expert shared with Town & Country,
"Most royal brides do not have adult bridesmaids.
[...] It would be unusual for a royal bride to have a woman in her late 30s as a maid
or matron of honor.
The Duchess of Cambridge having her sister, Pippa, was unusual."
Not so different?
Middleton and Markle have some major differences.
As Business Insider points out, Markle didn't meet Prince Harry until she was in her 30s,
she'd been married previously, and she made a living in front of the cameras prior to
joining the family.
Middleton's experience has been vastly different, but a royal insider told Hollywood Life that
the two women are actually quite similar.
Both ladies love the countryside, giving their time to help others, and fashion.
"Meghan loves to cook, so now that Kate is pregnant with her third child, she really
has been baking and making little dishes where she'll drop off to Kate."
The source added,
"Meghan and Kate clicked immediately, they share a very similar sense of humor and they're
both super sweet and kind people."
