today we learn how to complete this basket weave stitch if you liked this
video please don't forget to subscribe and like we'll hop right into the
tutorial today I'm using a four millimeter crochet hook and some worsted
weight yarn you can use any size hook but worsted weight yarn
I recommend a size four through a six crochet hook and I'm using some Caron
simply soft to work the basket weave stitch it's worked in multiples of eight
plus four what that means you will begin with a chain of 16 or 24 or 32 plus 4
more stitches so I'm going to start with a chain of 32 plus four more so that'll
be a chain of 36 stitches so we'll begin what is slipknot and we are going to
chain 36 stitches one two three four five alright you can pause the video
here and I'll meet you at the completion of your 36 stitches okay we compete
completed our 36 stitches and now we're gonna put a double crochet into the
fourth chain from the hook so count back four one two three four and place a
double crochet
this back here will count as a double crochet also we're going to place one
double crochet in each of your chain stitches okay continue two double
crochet across your work until you make it to the other side complete your
double crochets you can pause the video here and we'll meet at the completion of
this row okay we've made it to the end of this row and we are going to chain
two one two this chain two is going to count as a stitch so let's turn your
work and this is where we're going to start to create our basket weave we're
going to repeat this row that what we are gonna do now for two rows so we're gonna complete
place one front post double crochet into the next four stitches and to do a front
post double crochet instead of working into the top of your stitch like you
usually do you're going to be working into the post that is the double crochet that
connects the top and bottom of your row so yarn over we're gonna place your hook
into the front of your work behind the post or your double crochet and push it
forward and complete your double crochet as normal by yani over pull up a loop
yarn over pull through two yarn over pull through two I'll show you again
that was your first front post double crochet so yarn over place your hook and
push your post to the forward so I'm sorry to forward to the front yarn over
pull up a loop yarn over pull through two yarn over pull through two that was
number two let's do another front post double crochet yarn over go behind your
post and push it forward yarn over pull up a loop yarn over pull through two
yarn over pull through two that was your third one and let's do your fourth yarn
over and go into your front post double crochet yarn over pull up the loop
yarn over pull through two yarn over pull through two now we're going to work
one back post double crochet into the next four stitches it's very similar to
your front post double crocheted but this time instead of going this way
we're going behind your work so yarn over find your post go behind your work
see here's the back front back hmm push your needle to the front and push
the stitch back this is why we call it a back post double crochet cuz you're
pushing the stitch back so yarn over pull through two yarn over pull through
two that was your first one yarn over let's do another back post double
crochet go behind your work behind your work push the needle to the front to
push your hook all the way to the back again to push that I'm double crochet to
the rear of your work if that makes sense to create your back post double
crochet that was number two let's do your third one back post double crochet
go behind your work push your stitch back yarn over pull up a loop yarn over
pull through two yarn over pull through two and one more time
yarn over let's do a back post double crochet so go behind your work and we're
going to push that stitch to the back and complete your back post double crochet
yarn over pull through two yarn over pull through two let's repeat now we're
going to place one front post double crochet into the next four stitches so
yarn over this time we're going to stay into the front of your work and push
that stitch to the front will complete your front post double crochet that was
one let's do it again front post double crochet push the stitch forward
to another front post double crochet go to the front of your work
push that stitch forward front post double crochet that was number three and
listed your fourth one yarn over go to the front of your work push that post
forward and complete your front post double crochet that was four and let's
do back post double crochet together one more time
yarn over instead of the front go behind your work and push that double
crochet to the back the post of it can't see the work and complete your double
crochet I'm going to do that three more times
yarn over back post double crochet push your work back yarn over pull through
two yarn over pull through two that was number two front post double crochet
complete that stitch that's number three and your fourth back post double crochet
complete your stitch and that was number four we're gonna repeat that all the way
across by placing four front post double
crochet followed by four back post double crochet all the way across you
can pause your video here and I'll meet you at the very end of your own okay
we've made it back to the end of this row and we did our last four back post
double crochet but I don't want you to forget about that chain two two stitch
because this counts as a double crochet also so we're going to place one regular
double crochet into the top of the chain two stitch
this gives us a nice even edge okay and we're going to repeat this row for the
next round so change to one two this counts as a double crochet chain your
work I mean turn your work now we're going to place four front post double
crochet into the next four stitches you can kind of see where you're working
because your stitches are pushed forward now so these will be your front posts
and the ones that are pushed backwards will be your back post double crochet so
it'll be easy to see so yarn over and do four front post double crochet one front
post two
three
and this will be for now with the stitches that are back we're going to do
four back post double crochets into the free previous back post double crochets
so back post go behind your work push that stitch backwards so that's one two
three and four continue this sequence all the way across by four front post
double crochets and four back post double crochets all the way across and
I'll meet you at the very last stitch so pause your video right here and I'll
meet you at the end of this row okay we've made it to the end of this row and
we did our four back post double crochet so don't forget to place your singular
double crochet at the top of your chain to stitch
you can see how your pattern is starting to work out so far you can begin to see
the basket weave technique alright so chain two one two this next row you're
going to repeat for two rows it's gonna be slightly different than the last one
so now on top of your previous front post double crochet this row we're going
to do four back post double crochets to achieve the basket weave illusion so
yarn over and we're going to go behind your work and push that stitch back now
and complete your double crochet one back post to another back post
three back post and for now we're gonna place for front post double crochets
into the previous rows back post so yarn over let's go to the front of your work
and push that stitch forward now and complete your double crochet that's one
front post to front post three front post and four and we're going to repeat
that sequence we're going to place four back post double crochets on top of the
previous rows front post double crochet so yarn over now let's go behind your
work and push that stitch backwards back post double crochet so that's one back
post
to back post
three and back post four we're going to repeat that pattern all the way across
by placing front post double crochets on top of your back post and back post
double crochets on top of your front post all the way across and I'll meet
you at the very end so pause your video here okay we made it back to the end I
completed our last four front post double crochet and I'm going to put 1 DC
into the top of the chain 2 stitch
chain2 1 2 for this row for the fifth row we're just going to repeat row 4 all
over again so that chain to count it as a double crochet and now we're going to
place for front I mean sorry for back post double crochet into the previous
back post double crochets so yarn over go behind your work and push the stitch
back and complete your double crochet you can tell because your work is
already heavier um the stitches pushed backwards so that was one back post to
back post three back post and four for the next stitch we're going to place
four front post double crochets into the previous rows front post double crochets
so yarn over push the stitch forward one another front post
to front toast three front post for once again I'll show you one more time we're
going to place um four back post double crochets and in next four stitches so go
behind your work push the stitch backwards
that was one back post double crochet again two back post double crochet three
back post double crochet and four we'll repeat this all the way across
by placing four front post double crochet followed by four back post
double crochet front post back post front post all the way across and I'll
meet you at the end you can pause the video here okay we've made it to the end
and we're going to place our last double crochet into the top of the chain two
stitch and that completes our pattern sequence to achieve more rows you'll
just repeat Row two two times and then repeat row four two times over and over
and it will create this basket-weave I'll just show you one more time so you
understand chain two one two turn your work and we're going to repeat Row two
so yarn over and were to place four front post double crochets and to the
previous rows back post double crochets so this is one moving a little bit
faster front post two front post
three and four I think you understand it just of the basket weave like I said
just repeat rows 2 twice and rows 4 twice and I'll show you what it looks
like all finished up okay guys if you want to see more tutorials like this
