RHETT: Cabs are dying, Blockbuster Video is dying, and, I said that to Dave this
morning and he said "who?" Who were blockbuster video? And that's the 26 year
old. That is something that's probably everyone here's past.
DAVE: I was playing. {laughs}
RHETT: that would have sounded better if you didn't say that.
Um, they were stopped and it's a meme
goes out that they were stopped because so many of the
organizations have things that don't fit in their industry.
Like late fees at Blockbuster Video.
What do you guys think is the biggest joke within the hotel industry today. Is it
cancellation fees? Is it / what sours the taste in your mouth so much that you are
actually inspired to do something about it.
FABIAN: in order to move data from A to B, I
need to send an excel sheet. Right? that pisses me off. If you look at the billion
dollar club on Forbes, seventy percent of all companies that are on there are
companies that did not exist three years ago. And they're all valued over a
billion dollars. Yet there's no tech company in there from hospitality you
have Uber you have Grab you have all of those guys. But the traditional tech that
we need on a daily basis it's not in there.
RHETT: All of you have gotten some sort of
backing by a company or big group of investors to invent something that's
come out of your heads. So, I'm gonna give you in my briefcase over there I've got
300 grand each. So what would you build to make travel better and how long would it take you?
CHRISTY: I think I would fix, well thinking about, both of us, talking about the check-in,
and not everyone having a great experience, I
think that's what I would start with. I probably build something in technology I
mean those things on the wall they exist, we can put the code in, but you've got to
go next to that because like face recognition you pop in and you the
technology already knows what you like so your water temperature through to
what channels on the TV should be on what
the curtains go down like that's probably where I would start with.
Personalisation. Because it's already in your house like your house already knows
that so just move into the hotel system and be like okay Christie's coming this
is what she likes a new home this is what will recreate. That's probably where I'd start.
DAVE: I'd probably stick with the voice activation so you would you
wouldn't have to go and check in you could just walk to the lift because you
know you're on floor 36 and say David Holt floor 36 and up you go. There's no
more key cards needed no more check-ins because you've checked in online you can
go to your door David Holt you let in. So it takes out the friction
on many levels . CHRISTY: With the right team or at b-corp if I got funding 300 probably
not going to be enough like, lets be honest, that's probably fun like a month or two
if I got investment I could probably have that and I'm working in ten months.
FABIAN: if it makes my life better then it's already making travel better, because I
don't want to have an awkward conversation to the guy I don't want to
be rude to him but I equally want to be left alone so if he wants to talk
great you talk to my AI assistant who just gives you the answers while I can
do something else.
