The latest update of GRAPHISOFT's Grasshopper-ARCHICAD live connection

opens a new level of intelligent workflows between the two design environments:

algorithmic design… and BIM.

With the "Deconstruct" function, architects can use their Building Information Models as the backbone of their design,

and at the same time add algorithmic design logic using Grasshopper.

This allows designers to maintain the basic design logic in BIM (such as the base geometry of the building)

and extend that with intelligent design details that follow changes in the core design.

Let's take the example of the conceptual design phase, when architects create the first mass of building volumes,

then later want to add walls, roofs, slabs, and windows and doors as well, based on the conceptual mass model.

All we need to do is create a simple mock-up of the building volume using the MORPH tool in ARCHICAD.

It is unnecessary to divide the volume with floor slabs, etc.

This will be done using parametric data through the Grasshopper connection.

We continue by defining the location and shape of the windows using a simple planar ARCHICAD object.

We added additional properties to the conceptual Morph volumes.

Here you can see all the "Grasshopper Building Data" properties we added in ARCHICAD.

These additional Morph properties provide information about the number of stories,

the height of the individual stories as well as the wall, slab and roof thicknesses.

These properties may also be edited later on, if necessary.

Now it's time to connect the ARCHICAD building volume with Grasshopper!

We will add the new Morph shape to the code using the 3D window of ARCHICAD.

Using Grasshopper's functions, we "deconstructed" the MORPHs

and used their acquired properties to later arrive back in ARCHICAD with a complete Building Information Model,

containing genuine ARCHICAD wall, roof, slab, window and door elements.

The advantage of the ARCHICAD-Grasshopper Connection really comes to life,

when the shape or geometry of the conceptual building design is modified.

When adjusting the geometry of the Morph or the corresponding MORPH parameters,

the associated BIM model will update automatically.

Without the live connection tool, manually modifying all the building elements would have taken a considerable amount of time.

Here, there is no manual process necessary,

and any modifications to the original source volume will result in instant changes.

The building project example presented in this movie is part of a BIM reconstruction project

created by Michele Calvano

architect, researcher at the Department of History, Drawing and Restoration at the Sapienza University, in Roma

and Mario Sacco architect, BIM expert from ArchiRADAR.

Please view the corresponding video that presents the entire workflow.

The ARCHICAD–Grasshopper live connection tool ensures a seamless workflow,

taking the design from conceptual mass creation to the creation of real wall, slab, roof and opening elements

based on the conceptual shapes.

15 Simple Tips That Will Save Your Life One Day - Duration: 7:02.

Life is unpredictable. It can throw you curveballs from time to time and disasters can happen,

so it's always good to be prepared as there may be a day when knowing that special survival

tip could save your life. Today we'll be giving you our countdown of the top things

you may need to know to be prepared, when that disaster does strike. Welcome to this

episode of the Infographics Show: 15 Tips That Will Save Your Life One Day.

15. Disinfecting water - Typical household bleach has about 5.35% chlorine content and

so can be used to disinfect and sterilize polluted water. To use household bleach for

disinfecting water: Add two drops of bleach per quart or liter of water; stir it well;

and let the mixture stand for a half hour before drinking. If the water is cloudy with

suspended particles: Filter the water as best you can; and Add four drops of bleach per

quart or liter of water.

14. Lighting a fire – We've all seen how you can start a fire by rubbing two sticks

together in some dry grass, but what if you're stuck in the freezing cold, surrounded by

ice? What you'll need to do is carve out a big chunk of the ice, shape it into a disk,

and use the warmth of your hands to melt it into a smooth, round lens, like a magnifying

glass. Let the light shine through it and you'll have a concentrated beam with enough

heat to start a fire.

13. Natural Disaster - After a catastrophic natural disaster such as an earthquake or

tsunami, water sources can become polluted, making drinking water sparse. Before you use

the bleach option, if you are able to, fill up your sinks, your bathtub, and every container

you can with water to provide yourself with safe drinking water before it runs out. This

could make the difference when surviving a personal drought.

12. Surviving a house fire – If you found yourself stuck in a building with the only

way out being the window, then some simple items may save your life. Tying bed sheets

together can make a handy rope to lower your self to safety, and even nylon stockings can

be bound together in the same way. If the room starts to fill with smoke, it's a good

idea to run a t shirt under the tap and hold it to your face to filter the air you're

breathing.

11. Condoms have multiple uses - Even more useful than stockings are condoms and they

can be used in many survival situations. You can clean one and turn it into a water container,

use it as a latex glove, keep your cell phone and other things safe from dust and water,

or even convert it into a makeshift slingshot for surviving in the forest.

10. Aspirin after a heart attack – Most heart attacks occur when the blood supply

to a part of your heart muscle is blocked. Aspirin thins the blood and helps prevent

blood clots from forming. Taking aspirin during or immediately following a heart attack can

reduce damage to the heart and potentially save your life.

9. CPR – Cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR, is an emergency procedure that combines

chest compressions with mouth to mouth, in an effort to keep a person alive, while waiting

for paramedics. Taking a CPR course every couple of years to keep up to date, will ensure

you can kick start someone's heart when the occasion calls for it. This tip may mean

you save another person's life.

8. Sinking your car – It's a scene we often see in movies but it also happens in

real life. The car skids off the road and into a lake or river. If this happens to you,

then quick thinking is key. It is critical that you open the car door as soon as you

can before you sink too deep and the water pressure makes it impossible. If you can't

open it, then break a window. Once enough water comes in the pressure will equalize.

Try to relax, hold your breath, and swim to safety.

7. Caught in a rip tide – If you're swimming in the ocean and find yourself being dragged

out to sea, the first thing to do is not panic and relax. Conserve your strength by floating

rather than swimming against the current and raise one arm as a distress signal. Identify

which direction the current is moving and swim to the left or right of it but never

against it. You can swim parallel to the shore and eventually you'll pass the rip tide

and be able to swim to safety.

6. Snake bite – Between 7 and 8 thousand people are bitten by snakes each year and

if it happens you, you need to know how to react. If you are bitten, get away from the

snake immediately and then limit your movement as this prevents blood flow and the spread

of venom. This will give you more survival time. And remember as much as you can about

the snake so the hospital can administer the correct anti-venom.

5. Crayons as candles – Crayons can give your children hours of creative fun, but they

also have other practical uses. If you find yourself in an emergency situation where the

electric has been cut and you have no candles, but you have crayons, then you're lucky;

you have a solution. You can actually use crayons as candles, and they will stay lit

for around 30 minutes.

4. Driving when tired – If you're on a long drive and find yourself dozing off, be

aware. It only takes a micro sleep to go from freeway to forest, and a car crash that could

end your life. So stop, revive, survive – pull over and get out of the car for a few minutes

to wake yourself, or if you see a service station or café, take a longer break and

grab yourself that much needed coffee.

3. Tornado - If you're caught outside in a tornado, your safest bet is to stay in your

car, park it in an open area, lock all the windows and doors, buckle your seatbelt, and

ride out the storm. If you're at home, head to the basement and cover yourself with a

mattress or sleeping bag. Make sure you know where heavy objects rest on the floor above,

such as pianos, ovens and refrigerators, so you can avoid them if they crash through.

And head protection, such as a helmet, can also boost your chances of survival.

2. Avalanche - The center of an avalanche is where the snow moves the fastest, making

it the most dangerous place for you to be, so move sideways if you can. If you find yourself

being dragged with the snow flow, use your surfing skills to avoid being buried, by deep

swimming as hard as you can in the direction of the fast-moving snow. But if it does look

like you will end up buried, cupping your mouth will create a small pocket of air for

you to survive on for up to 30 minutes.

1. Don't text while driving - The National Safety Council reports that cell phone use

while driving leads to 1.6 million crashes each year; Nearly 390,000 injuries occur each

year from accidents caused by texting while driving; and 1 out of every 4 car accidents

in the United States is caused by texting and driving. It's a big problem and putting

the phone away and focusing on the road ahead could save

your life.

That's our 15 top tips that could save your life. Do you have any other useful tips to

add to the list? Let us know in the comments. Also be sure to check out our other video

3 Simple Spanish Tapas - Duration: 3:45.

(upbeat music)

- Hey, Chef Billy Parisi here with Heinen's Grocery Stores.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.

Starting in July through September,

Heinen's is gonna be sampling some delicious Spanish

and Portuguese wines,

so in light of that I'm gonna be making some easy to make,

perfect for summer and entertaining Spanish tapas.

The first tapas we're gonna make is called patatas bravas.

It's an incredibly easy to make potato dish consisting

of tomato sauce and a little aioli.

First, I'm gonna start by cooking off our potatoes.

Go ahead and largely dice up some russet potatoes.

We're gonna toss them in a little bit

of olive oil, salt and pepper.

We're gonna bake them in the oven on 400 degrees.

Gonna take about 20 minutes.

In the meantime, go over to your blender.

Add in some onions, garlic,

whole tomatoes, little bit of sugar, salt and pepper.

We're gonna puree that till it's nice and smooth.

Transfer it over to a medium size sauce pot.

We're gonna cook it for just a few minutes,

and we're gonna add in some tomato paste

to help thicken it up.

While the tomato sauce is cooking

and the potatoes are in the oven, we can make the aioli.

It's as simple as combining some mayonnaise,

finely diced garlic, juice of lemon.

We're gonna add in some smoked paprika.

Give it a little mix.

Boom, we're finished.

It's time to plate up.

Add your potatoes to a small tapas size bowl.

We're gonna add on some of the tomato sauce.

Hit it with a bit of the aioli.

And last but not least, chopped parsley.

The second tapas we're gonna make is probably my favorite,

and that's mussels.

Really, really easy to do

and comes together in just a few minutes.

In a very hot pan, we're gonna add in some olive oil.

Follow it up with some onions and garlic, tomatoes,

some sliced chorizo.

Next, we're gonna add in our mussels.

Hit it with just a little bit of saffron.

Season it up with salt and pepper.

Add in the chicken stock.

We're gonna put the other pan right on top

to sort of steam the mussels.

It's only gonna take about three to four minutes.

We just want the mussels to open up.

That's when we know they are finished.

So to plate up, we're just gonna add 'em to a bowl.

Serve 'em up with a delicious side of French bread.

The last tapas is really, really simple.

It's just a green salad,

Spanish-style salad with lots of delicious flavors.

We're first gonna prep up some Romaine lettuce.

We're gonna slice some cucumbers.

Quarter up some tomatoes.

Then go over to a small plate.

Add on the Romaine, the prepared cucumbers,

quartered tomatoes, some sliced red onion.

I'm gonna add on some whole artichokes,

chickpeas, prosciutto ham.

Got some Spanish-style olives.

Last but not least, some red wine vinegar and olive oil.

Boom, our tapas are done.

Let's try 'em out.

The tapas look incredible.

As you can see in the video, super easy to make.

All of these things, literally 20 minutes or less.

Within an hour you have three delicious tapas.

What a great opportunity to entertain with your friends.

Pair 'em up with some Spanish and Portuguese wines

and you've got yourself one amazing get-together.

Be sure to get all of these ingredients

and hit up Heinen's Grocery Stores

to sample those Spanish and Portuguese wines.

And be sure to visit heinens.com

to see all of our great recipe videos.

Can't wait to get into this.

We'll see y'all later.

Rehearsing A Simple Man, June 1987 - Duration: 2:36.

It's taking sheer hard work and dogged determination to bring the paintings of

LS Lowery to life through dance. BBC North West has hired choreographer

Gillian Lynne to take on the task, a woman now world famous for her triumphs

with 'Phantom of the Opera' and 'Cats', but Gillian Lynne wants this dance drama,

called 'A Simple Man,' to be more than a reminder of Lowry's great industrial landscapes.

We are telling a mixture of Lowry's personal life

and showing the paintings as well; so what I've tried to do is make a story

that relates from his paintings but which incorporates his own life as well

because I thought it would be dreary if all we did was bring paintings to life, I

mean that's been done hundred times. And so what I've tried to do is make the

paintings part of the past and on a parallel with that show what Lowry

himself was going through. The dancer actor Christopher Gable will perform the

leading role. The challenge of trying to represent such a complicated man he was

very uncoordinated, he had a strange lurching way of moving ... he was a very

covered man, he didn't he didn't relish emotionalism for its own sake so that

all things which, which, would suggest that it would be very hard to do it in

terms of movement that was very exciting to try and do it.

The Lowry dance-drama

is one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by the BBC in the North West

for some years talks began nine months ago with Salford Council about possible

ways of working with the BBC to celebrate the centenary of Lowry's birth

in November this year. It was from these talks that the idea of jointly

commissioning a new ballet about the painter's life and work emerged. We all

are passionate believers in the man and his talent and then the ballet is is a

celebration really of his sense of colour and his knowledge of characters

and all of that. Thirty dancers from the Northern Ballet and groups of local

children began rehearsals in January with Gillian Lynne, the filming now

underway in the BBC studios in Manchester will last for eight days

'A Simple Man' is scheduled for transmission towards the end of the year

Three Simple Hairstyles For Everyday And Special Occasions | Tutorial | J.M. - Duration: 6:45.

Hello and welcome to my channel!

In this video, I will three simple hairstyles

that you can make every day

or even for a special occasion.

So let's begin!

For the first hairstyle make a hair section on top of your head.

Secure it with a hair elastic.

For some volume, gently pull some hair from the front.

Now, a little bit lower make another hair section.

Bring the hair back.

and secure with elastic.

Repeat until all hair is tied.

You can leave a ponytail

or add some more hair elastics like I did.

For the second hairstyle

make a horizontal section above your ears.

Take a top section and divide it into two equal parts.

Tie the hair in a knot.

And then make few more knots

as many as your hair length let you.

Secure them with a hair elastic.

Repeat same with a bottom section.

When both sections are done

place the knots the way they look good

and secure with bobby pins.

For the third hairstyle make a hair section on top of your head.

Secure it with a hair elastic.

Braid the side hair in a Dutch braid.

I didn't made one but if it's easier for you

make an additional section.

Keep adding hair to the braid until it reaches the middle

of your head

and then keep braiding without adding any hair.

Secure the braid with a tiny hair elastic.

Repeat same on the other side.

Now twist both braid ends around each other

and hide the top sections elastic under the twist.

Secure the twist with elastic.

And if you want remove elasics that secured the braids

Add some bobby pins if needed to keep all in place.
