hey Im Derek from ForeGolf Custom today it's the Cobra King F8 and F8+ Head, this thing
is absolutely rammed full of technology it's got everything in it
we've got moveable weights, we've got a CNC milled face, we've got a self
intuitive adjustable hosel, we've got a carbon crown, we've got everything we've
even got a sensor in the end of the grip from Arccos called Cobra Connect
which connects to your phone and tells you how far you hit the driver and
tracks your whole round. It's unbelievable, the tech is one thing and
I'm going to explain a little bit about what that does, in terms of you and how
that plays and what to look for. But the real secret here today, is Dave and I are
gonna show you how we fit this bad boy and what type of golfer for it's best suited to.
- hi there my name is Derek Murray from ForeGolf Custom and I'm an independent club
fitter and ClubMaker based here just outside Dublin in Ireland I'm going to
share with you some of my knowledge of fitting all different types of golfers
over the last 20 years and share with you some of the insights that I have on
the different brands and clubs and how they perform for the different golfers
I've written magazine articles, I've worked with the PGA of Canada and the
basically there's nobody better placed to advise you about what type of club will
suit you and your game. There's four main technologies in this new King F8 Driver
from Cobra. The first one is the CNC milled face, they've taken away the
conventional hand finishing of the faces which is done normally in industry and
they produced a CNC a milling machine which will mill the face this keeps the
actual thickness of the face very consistent but also the consistency of
each face that they produce means that if you hit a club or tested for a club
or fit with the club the likelihood of getting the exact same is better because
the CNC milling keeps it more consistent so the club you test will be the club
that you end up with. It's really important and certainly something that's
good going forward also is a very cool design, looks like a DJ's turntable, I get it.
The next technology is the 360 aero so these are kind of channels that are
cut into the sole on the crown of the club that helped draft the air across
the head better, you know it's hard to determine whether this is a big
factor for amateur golfers. Formula one are doing it and
airplanes are doing it, to make the planes fly faster and cleaner and the
cars go quicker. There is an element of proof here
If you draft the air over the head better the club will go quicker. The
next technology is the weighting system which kind of ties into the carbon crown
as well they strip weight out of the crown which means that these weights
where they placed them become more significant and do a bigger job and for
fitting that's a big important thing. In the F8 head, there's one in the heel and
one in the back and you can rotate these depending if you need
more draw or certainly slightly higher MOI or a little more launch and then
in the F8+ Head you can see the weights are down the centre, which means you
can swap the weights around to decrease spin a little bit, change the MOI
a little and certainly affect the way that the club launches. The last
technology from Cobra is the new Arccos System which is embedded into the grip
of the club. This is a really cool feature and I think that this is the way
that golf is going to go, where there's going to be more
connectivity with the club and certain information that comes back to the
golfer - about how the club is swinging how it's moving. This is a cool system
although it's really just a GPS unit which will track where you are and judge
your distance and drives and then it will give you that information at the
end of the round. It comes free with the club, which is a big deal
certainly if you have or buy other Cobra products, you can connect the whole bag
up to the system and then get full details of your round. I think this
is a really good feature and something that if you're into your apps and you're
in to your technology, you're gonna love this. Right that's pretty much all of it oh
one more thing the hosel, it's an adjustable hustle but
it's very intuitive, it's a little window in there which tells you what the
loft is and what the setting of the head is. Very cool Cobra !
We love that from a fitting perspective. I'm gonna pull all this stuff together
but I think the real key thing here is and you know if you've been watching the
videos. My colleague David and I fit with this on a regular basis, so we're
gonna give you some insights into how we've been fitting it , who the type of
golfer it is that's getting this driver, and some of the results. I'm gonna fire
up TrackMan4 we hit a few balls here live at the range and just show you a
couple of numbers so that you can understand, what this head does and if
it's something you should be looking at.
We've got TrackMan turned on We've got Srixon golf balls, I'm just going to hit a few shots today just to show you
the difference between the two heads. So in theory the F8 -
the normal head is more for the slower hitters, who don't launch the ball as well.
Who need a little bit of draw help. Gotcha
What's the spec on this one, so in this one you have Mitsubishi Tensai Blue
in the Nardo Head, 45 1/4 inches, in D1 in swingweight, so this is the
slightly higher spin and slightly higher launching version of the two.
Okay so you'll see straight away that you have a spinrate of 3400, so
nice and high, gets it in the air, good launch. In terms of shaft what would
you, what do you seen working with this thing ? I guess this is the slightly
softer, slightly lighter, slower type of guy. It helps create some speed with a
lighter, not too soft in the tip section because you see, it does spin
so you can maybe go a little bit stiffer, than what you think you can and
then when you can crush one like that, then you'll get like 2500 and the spin
as well, so you can still hit a low too. Okay but if that miss hit that's
going to spin a little bit more. If you cut it a bit, which I
can do, cut across, then that works better because you can draw a big heel weight and
at the front, so it'll rotate across the line rather than up and across versus the
+ head, so what's the spec in the + ? It's all in the + you have Project X Hzrdus Black
at 45 inches and 75 grams 6.5 so much more stable in the
tip it's heavier in weight yeah much more body to it and design for
lower spin obviously. Lower launch, low spin, lower everything, so this tends to
be your your Bombers type club, loads of strength, loads of stability, keeps the
spin off as much as you can. It'll still launch. But you can set it to
spin a low. Yeah it's a nice solid strike. Yeah, yeah it definitely feels more solid
that's for sure. I guess because the weights forward or
front pressed. So you've got spin there at about 3000, we know we can get it
lower again, we can get 14 - 1500 no problem, off this driver
little low off the bottom, common amateur miss. Yeah. Plenty of stability because it
doesn't spin still at 2500. Do you see the launch angles low. Yeah, so you can
definitely see the ball flight coming out flatter. And the spin is always low 2455.
So if you're crushing the driver, hitting it hard
I probably dont have enough speed for this personally, I don't think. You've
got enough, it's maybe just enough on the up to get the best out
of it because it wants to slightly nose dive out of the sky and the weight
is forward weighted, so it does feel solid. I just want to get the ball out flatter.
I can definitely feel that. You can still flip it to the back and launch it
because it's so low in spin at times with the X, with the stability of the
shaft and the bit of weight in it. That you can flip it to the back too
launch and it still won't increase the spin rate too much. I get that you
can tie it in with the hosel as well. as well, so you can really dial that in.
Absolutely. You can get the spin and launch where you need it exactly.
Without a shadow of doubt. That's the hit testing done on TrackMan, so that's a
few numbers for you to understand. When you look into the driver you can
kind of work out what head suits where. Dave, fitting wise with the King
F8, tell me what you've seen or what's your overview of this. I guess in two
heads, (three if you count the high trajectory version) it pretty much covers
off where every other manufacturer needs a whole range to do the same thing so
you've got the low launch, the high launch, the draw spin, flat, upright
launch, you're pretty much got everything from going eight degrees on
the + all the way to 14 degrees. Where you can adjust it in the hosel.
Yeah and then move the weights, the different spin heads, so what you're
saying is, I've seen it as well it suits pretty much everybody.
Absolutely. I think probably the best thing to do is, who does it not suit ?
Who shouldn't really be looking at this. I guess the high slingy hooker is
probably the only person who shouldn't look at it. So right-handed, misses it left.
You ain't got a big toe weight it's the only nothing to hold it off.
there's no fade setting as such. There would have been in cobra past
but this time its draw in the hosel only. Also great thing is superb for lady golfers,
superb for senior golfers, Absolutely. Lower speeds, need to get the
ball in the air, get it to fly because again friendliest face, we call
it friendliest face. Yeah we the friendliest face in golf will suit that
slower speed, need more height, need to get it in the air and the obviously
the hosel being so intuitive, you can work that out and obviously
the weight placement then to see more draw and anything else that you love
about it ? I guess as a technician, somebody, at the end of the day is
here educate, but has to sell. At the end of the day, the price point is lower than
a lot of the other manufacturers premium products, so you get all the
adjustability, the hosel, the weight adjustability. The kitchen sink. Yeah the
Archos in the grip that i spoke about earlier. €19 on its own, it ends
up being somewhere in the region of a €100 less expensive which is
quite a lot of money for a driver that you can set up for everyone to use. I
guess ultimately folks this is packaged so well as a product, it's great for
every type of golfer, it suits pretty much everybody, it's very easy for us to
fit with. We like it a lot and it works great from a fitting perspective, we've
other Drivers that we've reviewed on the channel. I'll list them up over here for
you to have a look at and but probably easiest way to stay in touch, subscribe
to the channel and we'll see at the next video. Thanks for watching.
