Ex-public schoolboys 'adopt mockney accents to appear less posh' - Daily News - Duration: 3:28.

Former private school pupils speak in a 'mockney accent' in adulthood in an effort not to seem posh, the former head of Harrow has said.

Many people who went to elite fee-paying schools do not want to seem upper-class because 'being posh these days is not a good thing', according to Barnaby Lenon.

He believes public figures such as Tony Blair, George Osborne and even Prince William have been known to adopt slang accents rather than those of their private school background.

Mr Lenon said: 'Being posh these days is not a good thing. There has long been a tendency for schoolchildren at private schools to adopt their own language and certainly with an emphasis on mockney.

'It continues into adult life. George Osborne and Tony Blair are both prone to lapse into estuary English so they resemble the Kray brothers rather more than the private school background they come from.

'Remember the Old Etonian Prince William saying "I need to check this with the missus".

Mr Lennon, who is the new dean of the University of Buckingham School of Education, also believes politicians from elite schools such as Eton and Harrow will try to conceal being upper-class to appear to be a 'man of the people'.

He said: 'Former pupils from elite private schools went out of their way to hide their education.

'It is very important when you are with non-Etonians to try to conceal that you are an Etonian.

'If you are in politics, for instance, you want to appear to be a man of the people.'

Mr Lenon made the comments following research into prep school language - which has its origins in cockney rhyming slang.

The slang accent was due to what he described as 'levelling' of language when children from different backgrounds were brought together after the Second World War, research by Graeme Davis, a professorial research fellow in humanities at the University of Buckingham reveals.

Mr Davis said: 'We might expect children at English preparatory schools in the post-war years to have an upper-class language register. They don't.

'Instead we see a levelled form of language which includes all social classes including London cockney, the slang of soldiers in two world wars and the jargon of criminals.'

The so-called 'estuary English', created when people moved out from the east end of London and took their accents with them, is still a feature of some speech today, said Mr Lenon.

Liam Hemsworth Feels 'Like a Real Man' During First Post-Wedding Public Outing With Miley Cyrus

Newlywed bliss! Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus stunned at their first post-wedding public event on Saturday, January 26, where the Hunger Games actor gushed over his new wife and revealed what it feels like to be a married man.

"I'm just, like, a big grown adult now," Hemsworth, 29, told Us Weekly and other reporters at the G'Day USA gala in Culver City, California. "Like a real man, I guess.".

The Isn't It Romantic star — who was honored at the event — later gave a sweet shout-out to Cyrus, 26, during his acceptance speech.

"Thank you to my beautiful wife," Hemsworth said with a nod to the Hannah Montana alum, who was smiling proudly at him from her seat. "You're a sweet, sweet angel.".

The pair quietly tied the knot in December 2018 at their Nashville-area home in front of close friends and family.

After speculation of their nuptials swirled when pal Conrad Carr documented the celebration on his Instagram Story, the "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" songstress confirmed their happy news alongside a series of black-and-white wedding photos.

Cyrus couldn't help but joke with her hubby after he thanked her during his speech. "More about me!" she shouted from her seat, which prompted Hemsworth to reply, "I'll tell you later," leaving the rest of the attendees laughing.

The "Wrecking Ball" singer wasn't the only one who Hemsworth thanked during his speech. "My mum and dad are the [most] supportive parents on the planet.

I wouldn't be here without them," the Australian actor gushed. "But most of all my two brothers, my oldest brother, Luke, who's here tonight.

If he didn't first start acting, the whole acting thing, Chris probably wouldn't have. I probably wouldn't have. I definitely wouldn't have. I think you and I would probably still be laying floors in Australia, which is slightly exciting.

So thank you, Luke. This is way better than laying floors, so thank you, mate.

An onlooker told Us that the pair looked "super in love" at the gala as they were "constantly smiling at each other. " The onlooker added, "They seemed happy and comfortable.

The former Disney Channel star looked smitten as she gazed into the eyes of Hemsworth. The pair met on set in 2009 while filming The Last Song and began dating shortly after.

Cyrus looked gorgeous in a low-cut black gown, while Hemsworth rocked a black tux with a thin, dark tie. "Date night ❤️ OUT and ready to party with the MR.," Cyrus captioned an Instagram pic of the two.

Cyrus and Hemsworth appeared to have a blast together during their date night. A source told Us earlier this month that "Miley is not pregnant currently but does want to have a family with Liam.".

Public Speaking Emma Goldman - Duration: 9:18.

A speech by Emma Goldman, Red Emma, Activists, Anarchist.

The speech is now titled "Patriotism A Menace To Liberty.

That is the speech I choose to do this week

This speech was delivered in July 9th, 1908 in San Francisco.

This speech was done before World War I and she talked about her view on patriotism and

how she does not believe it is not a benefit for

the U.S.

She uses a lot of examples talking about how patriotism is bad and harmful and does so

much harm.

I think she used this speech to really inform us that we don't need patriotism, in a way,

that it really is just harmful to us.

Now this speech was originally created by Emma Goldman but in Howard Zinn video the

people speak it is read by Sandra OH.

Now I know Sandra OH because of Grey's anatomy, she is a really good actor

Sandra Oh is a Canadian actress born on July 20, 1971, in Nepean (now Ottawa), Ontario,

Canada.

The daughter of Korean immigrants, Oh started her performance career as a child.

She attended the National Theatre School of Canada, and at age 19 had her breakthrough

role in the television biopic The Diary of Evelyn Lau (1993).

Oh's parents put her in ballet at the age of 4 in hopes of correcting her natural pigeon-toed

gait, a move that had the unintended consequences of sparking a love of performing.

At age 10, Oh appeared in her first play, The Canada Goose.

By the age of 15, the honor student started booking professional gigs

in television, theatre and commercials.

Renowned political activist and anarchist, Emma Goldman, who rebelled against a chauvinistic

society by advocating on issues such as peace, free love and birth control during a period

when women were considered as inferior beings.

She became involved in politics after the infamous Haymarket affair after which several

prominent anarchists were sentenced to death.

She was an outspoken orator and a prolific writer whose works cover a wide range of subjects

like women empowerment, sexuality, politics, atheism, and workers' rights.

Emma Goldman's fame as an anarchist grew and she was given the title

of Red Emma."

She was well known for her work and even that she was a little hot-headed.

She devoted her time to writing, traveling and lecturing in order to spread the message

of anarchism and to garner support for the labor movement.

They found in her what I found in her: free spirit, bold, speaking out against all authority,

unafraid, and as the title suggests, living her life, as she wanted to live it, not as

the rules and regulations and authorities were telling her how to live it.

She was born on June 27, 1869 in Kaunas, located in the Russian province of Lithuania.

She unfortunately died May 14, 1940 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada was an American political

activist and write.

Is

a

love of one's birthplace, the place of childhoods recollections and hopes, dreams and aspirations

patriotism sir is the last resort of scoundrels.

Said Dr. Johnson, Leo Tolstoy, the greatest anti patriot of our times, defines patriotism

as the principle that will justify the training of wholesale murders, a trade that requires

better equipment for the exercise of men killing than the making of such necessities of life

as shoes, clothing, and houses a trade that guarantees better returns and greater glory

than that of the average working man.

Indeed, conceit, arrogance and egotism or the essentials of patriotism.

Let me instill illustrate.

Patriotism assumes that our globe is divided into little spots, each one surrounded by

an iron gate, those who've had the fortune of being born on to some particular spot,

consider themselves better, nobler, grander, more intelligent, than the living beings inhabiting

any other spot.

It is, therefore the duty of everyone living on that chosen spot to fight, kill, and die

in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all the others.

The inhabitants of all the other spots reason in like manner, of course, with the result

that from early infancy, the mind of the child is poisoned with the blood curdling stories

about the Germans, the French, the Italians, the Russians, etc.

When the child has reached manhood, he is thoroughly saturated with the belief that

he is chosen by the Lord Himself to defend his country against attack or invasion of

any foreigner.

It is for that purpose that we are clamoring for a greater Army and Navy, more battleships

and ammunition.

We Americans claim to be a peace loving people.

We hate bloodshed, we are opposed to violence, yet we go into spasms of joy over the possibility

of projecting dynamite bombs from flying machines upon helpless citizens.

Our hearts swell with pride of the thought that America is becoming the most powerful

nation on Earth, and that it will eventually plant her iron foot on the next of all other

nations.

Such is the logic of patriotism Thinking men and women the world over are

beginning to realize that patriotism is too narrow and limited a concession to meet the

necessities of our time, the centralization of power has brought into being an international

feeling of solidarity among the oppressed nations of the world a solidarity which represents

a greater harmony of interests between them working men of America and his brothers abroad

then between the American minor and his exploring compatriot a solidarity which fears not foreign

invasion because it is bringing all the workers to the point when they will say to their masters,

go and do your own killing.

We have done it long enough for you.
