What really matters in a relationship are things like love, compatibility, and shared
goals.
So, for some celeb couples, age just isn't an issue.
These pairs might be proud to flaunt their unlikely romances all across town, but that
doesn't stop outsiders from being a little bit squeamish about seeing them together from
time to time.
Here are some celeb relationships with the most uncomfortable age gaps.
Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones
These two actors have a lot in common.
They both have Oscars to show for their careers and they share the same birthday of September
25th.
But one thing Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones don't share is the same generation.
Douglas was born on the cusp of the Baby Boom in the '40s while Zeta-Jones was more of a
flower child, born nearly three decades later in 1969.
Nevertheless, the quarter-century gap wasn't a problem when these two married in 2000,
and, despite a temporary split, they've made their marriage work ever since.
"I'm crazy about her.
I think every couple has their difficult times..."
"But we're back stronger than ever."
Patrick Stewart and Sunny Ozell
Patrick Stewart is the esteemed British actor best known for captaining the Enterprise on
Star Trek: The Next Generation and guiding the lives of young mutants as Professor X
in the X-Men movies.
But as respected as he is, his relationship with Sunny Ozell does still seem a little
off-putting at times.
"It does indeed."
The couple met in 2008 when Ozell was working as a waitress in a New York restaurant called
Franny's and he was starring in a production of Macbeth at the nearby Brooklyn Academy
of Music.
He wandered in for a bite to eat, and walked away having met his eventual third wife.
The age difference of about 38 years apparently didn't bother them, and they made it official
in 2015.
"The line must be drawn here."
Bruce Willis and Emma Hemming
Willis was half of one of the most famous celebrity super-couples of all-time when he
was hitched to Demi Moore.
After their divorce, though, he found love with Emma Heming.
Heming said that it was his personality that first drew her to him.
She told People, "When we first met, I was surprised at how charming and how funny he
was – and extremely handsome."
For him, meanwhile, it was love at first sight with Emma.
The pair were married in Turks and Caicos in front of many celebrity guests, including
Moore, when Willis was 54 while Hemming was just 32.
Sam Taylor-Johnson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Most people don't meet the loves of their lives at age 19, but Aaron Johnson certainly
did.
In 2009, he booked the role of young John Lennon in the biopic Nowhere Boy, and subsequently
met the film's director, 42-year-old Sam Taylor-Wood.
Almost immediately, Taylor-Wood says she felt "a psychic link" with the young actor.
In short order, they got engaged, had a couple of kids, and got married.
Rather than Taylor-Wood taking Johnson's last name, they decided to hyphenate their birth
surnames and share them.
They also continue to buck any criticism of their age gap by providing the world with
plenty of PDA.
David Hasselhoff and Hayley Roberts
If Hayley Roberts takes her soon-to-be-husband's last name, she'll be the second Hayley Hasselhoff
in the family.
Baywatch star David Hasselhoff also has a daughter named Hayley with ex-wife Pamela
Bach.
In 2017, Hasselhoff announced his engagement to Roberts after five years of dating.
The Hoff told Hello!
Magazine, "I waited to propose because I thought I was too old for her."
At the time he was 63, and she was 36.
The bride-to-be is not a celebrity and only met Hasselhoff by chance.
She told The Sun that she was a shop clerk making minimum wage and living with her parents
at their home in Wales, and one night she was having a drink at a local bar when the
actor walked by.
She asked to take a picture, and they hit it off.
Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
It's hard to believe, but stone-cold British action star Jason Statham celebrated his 50th
birthday in 2017.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, a Victoria's Secret model and actress, is 20 years his junior.
But they seem to get along just fine.
The couple started dating in 2010, got engaged in 2016 and welcomed their first child together
the following January.
Even so, it can still be a little weird to see the two getting frisky in front of the
cameras.
Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy
Mary-Kate Olsen began portraying Michelle Tanner on Full House when she was only about
one year old.
No one could've guessed that her future husband was already 18 at the time.
Sarkozy is a French-born banker — and half-brother of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy
— who's been working in the financial industry in the United States since the early '90s…
right around when Olsen was still making direct-to-video movies with her twin sister Ashley.
When the unlikely couple married in 2015, Olsen was a 29-year-old designer and Sarkozy
was 46 and had two children from a previous marriage.
Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor
There are about 32 years between Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor, but they might as well
be teenagers with the way they delightfully tell the world about their love.
"I want to shout from the rooftops all time about how much I love that person."
"The thing about Sarah is, long before she's a brilliant actress, which she is, she's a
real, wonderful, standup person of great quality."
Their age difference might be striking, but at least they know how to keep a sense of
humor about any unwanted scrutiny.
"I can only say what the old comic said, dating very much younger girls as he always did,
'Well, you know, what can I tell you.
If she dies, she dies.'"
Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn
While other age-gapped relationships might be slightly uncomfortable to look at sometimes,
Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn are the ultimate example of a cringe-worthy couple.
The writer-director had been in a relationship with actress Mia Farrow for more than a decade,
and he helped raise her adoptive children, in addition to fathering two of his own children
with Farrow.
That all pretty much ended in 1992, when Farrow discovered Allen was cheating on her with
her adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn.
"I've turned up in an affair with another woman and that other woman is her daughter."
Not only was he essentially hooking up with his step-daughter, but there was a massive
age gap between them.
Allen was 56 at the time, while Previn was 20.
Allen and Previn married in 1997 when he was 62 and she was 27 and Allen's descriptions
of their relationship are a bit… unsettling, to say the least.
He told NPR, "I started the relationship with her and I thought it would just be a fling
… I'm 35 years older, and somehow, through no fault of mine or hers, the dynamic worked.
I was paternal.
She responded to someone paternal.
I liked her youth and energy.
She deferred to me, and I was happy to give her an enormous amount of decision making
just as a gift and let her take charge of so many things."
"EW!"
