How Blind People Travel (Airplane, Train, Hotel, Sightseeing) - Duration: 7:37.Boy, this video is really going places.
Boy, a popular question that's come in over the years is "how does a blind person
like myself travel, you know, what kind of things do I encounter?
What's the experience like?" This works two ways.
Now the first way is when I travel with somebody.
Now, when I travel with somebody I'm usually just going sighted guide.
I hold on to their arm and we do all the things that we do. We walk through
the airport together. We walk through security together.
Take a train together. All that kind of stuff
I do sighted guide. So it's very easy that way. But what happens
when I travel alone? That's a little bit different.
For example, if I travel by plane. Now a bunch of years ago we actually
filmed a bunch of this process.
[music plays] So what I'll do is I'll take
a car service to the airport. And when we get there I'll ask
the driver if he can give me directions - which way
the door is going to be from the side of the car, right? Or they might even
get out of the car and show me the direction which I'm supposed to head.
And once I get to the counter and checked in,
then I'm in hands of airport personnel. And then we just
walk through the airport together. I hold on to somebody's elbow like I do
and we walk down towards security and I go
through security. My helper will go through security as well
and then on the other side they can bring me right to my gate.
And then when it's time board the plane, I'm one of the first
people on the plane which is very nice. I just get
comfortable and get seated and that's it.
And then when I arrive, I have to wait for everybody
to get off the plane and I'm the last person
off the plane. And then there's somebody at the airport
to take me through and bring me to where ever I need to go. And now when
I get to the hotel. More of the same thing.
Maybe a valet or someone from the hotel will bring me up to the desk.
Or if I can hear the activity I can just walk toward it.
And get myself in lien and get checked into my room.
[music plays]
So once I'm at the hotel, I usually manage the hallways by myself.
Right? There's braille signs on all the doors. And I just
have to walk down the hall and check the doors and find my room.
I'm going to stay along this wall here and follow it around.
And wait until I'll --- see I'm ahh...
nope, I'm good, okay.
[cane taps against wall]
Alright, let's see if we can find -- oh, more turns.
Jeez. Let's see.
This is...
705... so I think I have a few to go.
[cane taps against wall]
Alright, let's see what's here.
This is 703.
So I want maybe 2 or 1 more to go.
[cane taps against wall]
Ah, and... 701.
Alright. Let's see how the keycard works here.
No.
No.
[jgasp] There it goes. It opens.
Once I get into the room, now it's time to get my bearings.
Okay, so there's a table here. A little coffee table.
There's a chair -- that's actually a little couch. Wow. This is nice.
Straight across here.
Um... wow. This room is huge.
What's this? Oh, this is sort of
the -- okay, this is where the microwave is and stuff.
There's a little dish towel over here.
That's all very good. This must be the bathroom back in here.
Okay. Alright, what do we got over here?
Just big windows and stuff.
I'm sure the view is lovely. Woah...
is this like a whole other room? It is.
[gasp] And here's the bed.
What else is in here? This is ah... again, just like
a vanity I guess.
And this is the window. So this is not how to get our apparently.
Okay. What's in there?
[door slides open] Hello, closet space.
Okay, so then out is
going to be this way. [cane taps against wall]
[laughs] Dude... wow.
How do I get out? Alright, so the big table...
Window's there... the closet...
and more win -- dude, what am I doing wrong?
Oh, good, there's where the remote is. Hey, nice find.
Oh, and I can come out here. Okay.
And bathroom was across this way if I remember right.
Is that television up on the wall? That's cool.
That's very cool. Where the hell's the bathroom? It must be on the way
to the bedroom, right? It's got to be. And it is.
Okay, so right in here. Nice vanity here.
This is good. A little washcloth. I'm not quite sure what that is.
What else? There's a toilet.
And where's the shower?
Look and there's -- ah, jeez -- knocked over everything in there. Well, at least
I know where it is. And it all comes out this, okay good. [metal bang]
Very nice.
So once I'm in the hotel, if I need to go anywhere like the restaurant or the bar,
or something like that. I'll just call down to the front desk.
And ask if somebody can meet me at the bottom of the elevator or
whatever and just take me to where I need to go. And it's pretty straight ahead.
[train horn blows] Now, if I'm traveling by train
that's a little bit of a different experience. So what I do
is I go up on the platform and wait for the train
arrive and then I listen and either
walk left or right to where I think the door's going to be.
I get on the train and then I walk down the aisle.
And sort of touch the top of the seats to see if
I could feel somebody's head in the seat. And that's how I find an empty seat.
So once I get to my destination. Let's say it's New York City.
So I'll ask somebody... "Hey, can you do
me a favor and take me to the taxi stand?" And, you know,
people love to help so, yeah, people will do that for me.
Then I'll just get to the taxi stand. I'll wait in line.
Get into a car. And tell them where I want to go.
[music plays]
Well some of the ways I get to experience the city without sightseeing is I like to
go places. I like to meet the locals. Right.
I like to hear their stories like at a bar or restaurant or something like that.
You just meet the regular people. It's fun because
I'm from out of town and I tell people that and then they begin to tell me
stories and things maybe that I should check out in town
that I might like. Some place to go eat that has great food or some
place with nice drinks or whatever.
I just like to be with the people. That's my favorite part about
travel. I don't really care about going to see the Eiffel Tower.
It doesn't do anything for me. Right. Or, you know,
the pyramids wouldn't even do it for me.
Once of the things I hear in the comments is how sighted people
use photos and videos to remember their trip. And people are curious
"what does a blind person do to remember a trip? Do you make audio
recordings or anything? You know, I really don't.
When I'm on a trip, it's more about the experiences. It's
about the people that I met... the places that I've been to.
Maybe the smells and sounds of a particular place.
It's all that kind of stuff that I just remember because pictures
and video aren't really going to help me much and audio
recordings -- I don't imagine I'd listen to them.
I'm on them. [laughs]
I hear myself talk every day.
Thanks so much for watching this video and of course asking the questions.
And also I'd love it if you followed me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
so this way you'll always know when there's a brand new video coming out.
[beep] Hey, why do they call it a travelogue anyway?
It's doesn't come from a tree.
You can't put it in the fireplace... alright.
Um...

My Descendants 2 Hotel Idea: Isle of the Lost (ft. Wotso Videos) - Duration: 6:10.This week subscriber Patrick Ramos asks "What do you think Disney should do with Discovery
Island and/or River Country?
A couple ideas being destroy it, clear it, make it into a horror attraction like Universal
does."
Well I don't have anything in mind for River Country, but I've got just the idea for
Discovery Island.
Discovery Island is an island that sits in Bay Lake at Walt Disney World.
Up until 1999 it used to be open to guests, who would be able to visit and get to see
the exotic animals that called the island home.
However since all of the animals were relocated to the Animal Kingdom when it first opened,
the island lost its purpose and was subsequently shut down.
There were some ideas floated around regarding what to do with the island, including one
for an interactive attraction based on the PC game Myst, but ultimately nothing came
to fruition and the island has sat abandoned for the last 18 years.
When I first read this question my initial thought was that the best course of action
would be to just let it sit abandoned.
While it's no small island at eleven and a half acres, it's also not big enough for
something like a theme park.
For comparison it would roughly fit Tomorrowland on it.
Similar to the reason it closed, there's also no real nature related use for it that
wouldn't seem redundant with the Animal Kingdom around.
Then I started thinking about the Star Wars hotel.
If Disney's upcoming immersive hotel experience is all it's cracked up to be, we could possibly
be looking at the next generation of themed entertainment.
The idea of guests getting to live out an in-depth experience over a number of days
is an appealing one, and one that reaches far beyond just Star Wars.
So it would make sense they'd probably want to offer more experiences if all goes well.
Well, why not do it on Discovery Island, and why not do it with the Descendants franchise?
More specifically, how about turning Discovery Island into the Isle of the Lost?
To explain what the Isle of the Lost is, I'll have fellow YouTuber Isaac, from Wotso Videos take it from here.
Trapped in my a magical barrier, the inhabitants of the island turn it into their own run down industrial society.
In the first film the four main character: Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos
the offspring of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar, and Cruella Deville
are running the island until they are the first to have the opportunity to leave to the mainland.
On the mainland, known as the Kingdom of Auradon, the villain kids go to school with a variety of Disney heroes & sidekicks.
While most of the first film was focused on the mainland, the second film heavily shows us the
Isle of the Lost, allowing us to meet new characters like Uma, the daughter of Ursula
and allows us to see cool new locations like Mal's hideout and Uma's pirate ship.
This is a really cool location with a lot of Imagineering potential.
Similar to the films, the experience can be centered around musical and dance performances
rather than rides.
Like the Star Wars hotel, the stay on the Isle of the Lost would be a fixed 2 nights
with a narrative that plays out over those few days, and guests would partake in that
narrative through a set of various activities.
These can range from mock battles at the docks, to maybe a villain styled version of the sport,
Tourney, from the first film, to scavenger hunts that span the entire island.
All of these can then be split up by musical numbers that, much like musical numbers in
films, progress the story along.
Of course the experience wouldn't have to exist on just the island itself.
Much in the same way the Star Wars hotel experience will carry over to Star Wars Land, the narrative
for the Isle of the Lost can continue on in the Magic Kingdom.
Whether it's through an interactive game like Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom or character
meetups, you can spread it out throughout the whole park: Jafar in Adventureland, Ursula
in New Fantasyland, Hook by Peter Pan's Flight.
You get the idea.
Speaking of character meetups, the island could also offer plenty of character meet & greets.
Beyond the villains and their kids from the Isle, the narrative can work in an excuse
for some of the citizens of Auradon to visit the island so that guests can meet characters
like the Fairy Godmother, Belle, the Beast, and more.
Guests would be able to stay in rooms similar in style to Mal's place from the second
film, with perhaps a premium option for suites that are specifically modeled as the apartments
for different characters.
During the day they can eat at locations such as Ursula's Fish and Chips, and shop for
souvenirs at Jafar's Junk Shop.
And if guests want to really get in character, the island could also offer its own Descendant's
styled version of Bippity Boppity Boutique modeled after Lady Tremaine's Curl Up and
Dye from the second film, with everything from clothes to a complete makeover.
Finally, the weekend long narrative can culminate in a water and firework show off the east
coast that involves an impressive musical number and maybe the dragon version of Mal
fighting a giant transformed Uma, or some other villain specific to the story.
Think Fantasmic, but Descendants themed.
I mean, it's a rough idea, but I think the Isle of the Lost from the Descendants seems
like a great fit for Discovery Island.
It would expand a world that appears to be pretty popular and offer an alternative to
the Sci-Fi immersive experience of the Star Wars hotel.
So that's my idea, but what about yours?
How would you go about designing a Descendants themed island in Disney World?
Alternatively, what else would you do with Discovery Island?
Let me know in the comments below, and be sure to leave any questions you have for future
episodes down there as well.
I want to thank Isaac of Wotso Videos for helping me out with this video.
If you're a fan of the Descendants films, and want to learn more about the characters
and their backstory I highly suggest you check out his channel.
Beyond just the Descendants he has videos with some fantastic and in-depth analysis
of characters and films under the Disney banner.
You can find a link to his channel at the end of this video or in the description below.
Thanks you all for watching, and I'll see you next time.

Australian politician 'targeted by massage scam' at New York hotel - Duration: 1:46.An Australian politician has said he was targeted by a blackmail scam after booking a massage to a New York hotel.
Gareth Ward, a New South Wales assembly member, said he was confronted by two "aggressive" visitors at his room.
They began filming him before demanding a "quantity of money", US police said. Mr Ward said in a statement: "I asked for a
massage - but when it became clear that more was on offer, I asked them to leave and then they became aggressive demanding money.
"I reported the matter to police and the matter is subject to investigation. The ordeal was frightening."
Mr Ward told Australian media that he had booked a "normal, standard massage" through a local website for $100.
Two men then arrived at his room at the Intercontinental Hotel on Tuesday, where he was staying on leave following a business trip.
"They said to me, 'We are underage, we will put this on the internet unless you give us money,'" he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation,
which reported the demand was $1,000 (£750; A$1,250). Mr Ward said he escaped by going downstairs
and alerting hotel staff, having told the men he planned to withdraw money. A spokesman for the New York Police Department
said the pair then fled. The matter was being investigated but no-one had been arrested, the spokesman said.
