Jennifer Lopez says music helped repair her relationship with Marc Anthony

Jennifer Lopez says music helped repair her relationship with Marc Anthony. Jennifer Lopez opened up about her relationship with her ex-husband.

and can thank music for mending their relationship. The singer opened up about working with her ex-husband, 49, on her upcoming Spanish language album during an appearance on Spotifys ¡Viva Latino! podcasts debut episode on Thursday, November 30.

[Collaborating on the album] actually kind of repaired certain parts of our relationship that had been fractured from our marriage and our divorce and it kind of made us friends again, the 48-year-old confessed.

Like, because when we first started working together its how we met. She added: We remembered that like, 'oh right, we connect on this level of music. And we have that. And thats what the album came out of..

The former couple, who share nine-year-old twins Max and Emme, split in 2011 after seven years of marriage.

Aside from working with her ex on the album, Jennifer also recorded a version of Marcs 2013 song Vivir Mi Vida as a tribute to his mother Guillermina Quiñones, who passed away in July.

The first thing that came to my mind, because Marcs mom had just passed away, you know, my kids grandma, was Vivir Mi Vida.

And I thought, I think thats a good song to sing right now, the Shades of Blue actress said. But, in a different way.

Not in the kind of up-tempo, rhythmic, salsa way that Marc did it, but in a way where you really hear the words to that song, which is, you know, you have one life and you have to live it..

Despite her success over the years, Jennifer noted that she has still managed to stay true to her roots.

I dont know if it was deliberate, I was just so proud of who I was that I never felt I had to shed that to fit into Hollywood or to make music, she said.

I was going to be Jenny from the block, always and Jenny from the block is, like we said, its salsa, its R&B, its hip hop, its pop, and all of that is what you get when you get me, and such a big part of that, [is] because Im Puerto Rican and I grew up on rice and beans and I grew up on Spanish music, both my grandmas not speaking a word of English, is so part of who I am..

Jennifer continued: And so no matter where I go, even though I blend very well, Im from the generation that blends very well into America, its such a big part of who I am.

So I just cant leave that behind or make believe that thats not part of who I am..

UQx LEARNx The student teacher relationship - Duration: 8:21.

JULIE BOWER: What is it about that one teacher we remember so strongly that makes us feel either

immense warmth and admiration or sheer dread when remembering how we learned about how

to find the area of a triangle!

I came across a really powerful statement a number of years ago by Dr Haim Ginott that

has completely changed the way I walk into a classroom.

"I've come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom.

It's my personal approach that creates the climate.

It's my daily mood that makes the weather…I possess a tremendous power to make a child's

life miserable or joyous.

I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.

I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.

In all situations it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated

and a child humanised or dehumanised".

The student – teacher relationship is profoundly important in how students learn.

When the classroom is characterised by emotionally engaged teachers, there is a much greater

chance that students will be actively engaged and deep learning will take place.

Meta-analyses by John Hattie indicate that the student-teacher relationship is absolutely

paramount – the school context is a major source of social and cultural learning and

the quality of the relationship that a student has with his/her teacher is an important factor

in that student's well-being and learning outcomes.

The teacher smiles, some laughter, – a relaxed but structured atmosphere, students are respectful

of a teacher's knowledge about a subject, students feel comfortable sharing opinions,

students know and accept teacher expectations, teachers treat students with respect.

Cornelius-White (2007) conducted a meta-Analysis of 119 studies to identify these teacher-

student relational variables.

The emotional connectivity of the teacher with the student, the student with the student, and the

teacher with the teacher optimises the classroom for positive learning experiences and outcomes.

Emotions drive our engagement with the world around us.

They influence our decisions, how we interpret experience, and how we create memories.

As educators it is imperative to leverage this emotional drive in our students if we

want to impact student motivation for deep learning.

Relationships are a crucial pathway for doing so.

Cooperative group learning and peer mentoring have been linked to positive social and academic

outcomes, relative to individual or competitive tasks.

Social emotions such as empathy, admiration, love, and compassion meet our basic human

need to belong.

So providing opportunities for students to work together, and for teachers to work together,

can have important positive outcomes in schools.

Some fascinating research about empathy by Mary - Helen Immordino - Yang has shown us that

being able to empathise with others actually increases neural activity in the brain.

What her research shows us is that by engaging social emotions (such as empathy) where students

experience meaningful learning and connect socially with others, they are actually using

more brain processing capacity enabling them to connect ideas, to remember these experiences

longer term, and make meaning of their life experiences.

The Mindful Practice for Teachers program was developed with teachers for teachers.

It provides an opportunity for teachers to work together on their own well-being and

experience social emotions such as empathy.

This program combines relaxation skills, self-awareness, mindful movement, and background knowledge

about the effects of stress on the body and brain to assist teachers to self-regulate

their emotions in the classroom.

Teachers have found some really positive impacts on their daily teaching practice and their

relationships with their students.

We know positive relationships are crucial to learning, but what steps can we take to

build an environment where positive teacher-student relationships flourish?

Firstly we must look after our teachers.

Teachers need opportunities to plan together, to debrief, to make professional decisions,

and to learn about emotions.

Teachers need to be aware of the enduring effects that their own presence, empathy,

and emotional states have on their students.

Secondly, we then need to create relaxed and respectful classrooms where students and teachers

can engage meaningfully with each other for deep learning.

Thirdly, we must find the balance between helping students to find their strengths and

challenging them to broaden their minds and build the capacity to think creatively about

new and exciting concepts.

Emphasising the importance of competition and performance outcomes, such as how much

an exam is worth, might encourage the students to work hard, but it may also produce negative

emotions.

Activities that promote interest, challenge thinking, and provide opportunities for success

for all students, whether individually or collaboratively, are more emotionally engaging

longer term.

So once we establish that emotionally positive educational climate, there are a number of

strategies we can use to build positive student teacher relationships.

For example, we can explicitly teach social and emotional skills for working together

(for example managing emotions, mindfulness, social problem solving, being a good communicator,

naming emotions, understanding how emotions and the brain work, finding personal strengths);

we can provide opportunities for students to work meaningfully together towards self-set

goals; periodically we can check in and see if the presentation can be made more creative

or enjoyable, we can smile; we can provide a sense of predictability in the classroom

to heighten students' perception of control; we can clearly communicate expectations and

performance demands; we can create a learner-centred classroom where learning is separate from

testing; we can encourage students to become intrinsically motivated and self-regulated

learners; and we can provide a degree of student choice in authentic learning tasks.

If we focus on building positive teacher-student relationships using these strategies, perhaps

we will become that one amazing teacher that someone conjures up and remembers when reflecting

back on what they have learned at school.

Trump's Twitter attack strains the UK-US relationship - Duration: 10:46.

Trump's Twitter attack strains the UK-US relationship

London (CNN)The so-called special relationship between Britain and the US was under increasing strain Thursday after President Donald Trump publicly rebuked Prime Minister Theresa May over his dissemination of anti-Muslim propaganda.

In an extraordinary diplomatic clash between two allies, Trump took aim at May on Wednesday evening, tweeting: @Theresa_May, dont focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom.

We are doing just fine!.

Trump had earlier caused outrage in Britain by retweeting three videos posted by Jayda Fransen, the deputy leader of the far-right UK party Britain First.

The inflammatory videos showed people purported to be Muslims carrying out assaults and, in one video, smashing a statue of the Virgin Mary.

Downing Street condemned Trump, staying he was wrong to share videos by a group that seeks to divide communities through their use of hateful narratives which peddle lies and stoke tensions.

Fransen was found guilty of religiously aggravated harassment in November 2016 after abusing a Muslim woman wearing a hijab.

State visit pressure.

After Trumps attack on May, there was intense pressure on the British government to cancel the US Presidents planned state visit to the UK.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said Trumps latest outburst meant it had become increasingly clear that any official visit at all from President Trump to Britain would not be welcomed and called on May to call it off.

President Trump yesterday used Twitter to promote a vile, extremist group that exists solely to sow division and hatred in our country, Khan said in a statement on Thursday.

Many Brits who love America and Americans will see this as a betrayal of the special relationship between our two countries.

It beggars belief that the President of our closest ally doesnt see that his support of this extremist group actively undermines the values of tolerance and diversity that makes Britain so great..

Speaking in the House of Commons on Thursday, Home Secretary Amber Rudd did not withdraw the invitation, saying it had been extended and accepted.

But she stressed that no dates or arrangements had been made.

May is traveling in the Middle East and is expected to respond during a question-and-answer session following a speech she is due to give later in Amman, Jordan.

Asked at the regular Downing Street press briefing on Thursday whether the British government had raised the issue of Trumps tweets with the Trump administration, a spokesman for May said: Government officials are in touch with the White House regularly, including in the last couple of days.

You wouldnt expect me to get into details of those conversations..

When asked about Trumps direct criticism of May and the presence of Radical Islamic Terrorism in the UK, the spokesman said: I wouldnt take a position on that.

Presidents come and go.

It fell to Justine Greening, a British cabinet minister, to address the controversy in a round of UK media interviews on Thursday morning.

Greening said she did not agree with the tweets, but said the relationship between the two countries would survive Trump.

In the end, our relationship with the United States has a longevity to it that will succeed long after presidents come and go, she told the BBC.

I dont agree with the tweet President Trump has made, but I have to say I also believe it should not distract from the agenda we have domestically and I dont believe it should detract from the close relationship the UK has had for many, many years and will go on to have with America and the American people.

Britains Education Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities Justine Greening has criticized Trump over his tweets.

Britains Education Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities Justine Greening has criticized Trump over his tweets.

Trumps rebuke to May was originally addressed to the wrong Twitter account, one that had only six followers and has sent only nine tweets.

After deleting his first effort and successfully locating the Twitter handle of the British Prime Minister, he lashed out at Downing Street for its criticism of him retweeting anti-Muslim videos posted online by far-right British group Britain First.

Before Trumps riposte, another British cabinet minister, Sajid Javid, who is Muslim, took a stronger line.

So POTUS has endorsed the views of a vile, hate-filled racist organisation that hates me and people like me, he said in a Twitter post.

He is wrong and I refuse to let it go and say nothing..

The leader of the opposition Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, called the retweets abhorrent, dangerous and a threat to our society.

Trump faced a barrage of criticism in the UK Parliament on Thursday that was unprecedented for a US President.

MPs variously called him racist, fascist and evil. Labour MP Paul Flynn said Trump should be charged with inciting racial hatred if he enters the UK.

Earlier, Brendan Cox, the husband of murdered British lawmaker Jo Cox -- whose killer reportedly shouted Britain first as he stabbed her -- said Trump had become a purveyor of hate. He told CNNs Anderson Cooper: This is like the President retweeting the Ku Klux Klan.

This is not a mainstream organization and for the President of the United States, our greatest ally as a country, to be retweeting, to be providing a microphone to those voices..

One of the videos purports to show a young Muslim migrant attacking a boy on crutches.

The Dutch attorney generals office, which handled the case, said the incident occurred in May and the suspect was born and raised in the Netherlands.

A spokesperson would not comment on the suspects religion, saying it was against official policy to share such information.

May in tight spot.

Mays attempts to woo the US have left her in a difficult position.

With a view to strengthening Anglo-US relations after Brexit, May was the first world leader to meet Trump after his inauguration, flying out to Washington to launch a charm offensive.

But the visit went down badly at home.

She was widely criticized for taking Trumps hand while walking at the White House, while she was also derided for offering him the invitation of a state visit so early in his presidency.

Since then, the decision has come under further criticism as Trump has made a series of interventions in British politics.

In October, he incorrectly suggested there was a link between rising crime rates in the United Kingdom and the spread of Radical Islamic terror.

In September, he railed against loser terrorists behind the London Tube explosion and suggested that the perpetrator was known to authorities and recruited on the Internet, prompting May and a London police spokesperson to publicly rebuke the President.

And in June, soon after news reports surfaced about the London Bridge terror attacks, he seized on the moment to promote the travel ban.

He has also been involved in a number of Twitter disputes with Khan, the London Mayor.
