- So I walked into my first job as a physical therapist,
after college, and realized right away
that I had made a very poor choice, and mostly
because it didn't spur my creative side, by any means.
And so I was always looking for something to do
at the end of a long day as a physical therapist.
And cake decorating seemed like a fun thing to do.
So I sought out classes and ended up
at a local Michael's store in Connecticut.
I literally went straight from work
to cake decorating classes every Tuesday evening.
I fell in love with the art of decorating cakes.
I fell in love with the creative aspect of it,
being able to just come home after a long day
and be able to do something fun,
and eventually started making cakes for friends and family.
I definitely started my cake experience
on the more simple side.
I really had an affinity for playing with fondant
and gum paste and those types of things.
So things like making bows and even sugar flowers
were the types of items I would do in my spare time,
when I just wanted to do something fun.
I've been a full-time cake decorator
for the past 11 years.
I run a studio with custom, luxury wedding cakes.
And what has been fun about my journey
is that I've taken every aspect that you can
through this path of being a cake designer
and that is starting by taking some lessons,
playing with cake, I actually taught Wilton Method
at Michael's for a couple of years in the beginning.
And now I continue to share
all of that knowledge through other methods.
I started cake decorating by doing really simple things,
like making a custom topper,
like this classy gum paste bow placed on top of a cake.
It really brings the cake itself to life.
You can even add this to a premade cake
to save yourself a little time.
So the first thing you wanna do is roll out your gum paste
to about an eighth of an inch thick.
We wanna make sure this is wide enough
for two widths of the spatula.
The next step is to texture our ribbons.
So, using a rolling pin, you're gonna apply some pressure
and roll it gently all the way across.
With a food-safe brush, I'm gonna add a little shimmer dust
just to give it a satin look, like a real ribbon.
So now I'm gonna cut two lengths of ribbon
using a food-safe straightedge.
You'll need four lengths altogether.
When working with gum paste, you wanna work
in small sections so that it doesn't dry out on you.
(upbeat music)
So you're gonna roll out and texture your gum paste,
but this time you're gonna cut out two strips
that are two widths of the spatula.
I've got a 6" cake covered in teal fondant,
but you could choose to use buttercream here, as well.
To attach our ribbon strips, we're gonna add
just a little bit of water with a food-safe brush.
Flip over our strip, and gently brush the water on.
We're gonna place all four strips on our cake
and have them meet at the top center.
And now all you need to do is cut a diagonal
through the center of all of the ribbons
and remove the excess pieces.
(upbeat music)
For our ribbon tails, we're gonna take
one of our wider pieces, cut it in half,
and then cut diagonals at each end.
Taking one of our ribbon tails, we're gonna hold it
with our finger and our thumb,
and do what's called a box knot.
You make an S on one side
and an S on the other side and squash it together.
And that's what gives the beautiful ruffling to our tail.
To make our bow loops, we're gonna cut this in half first,
and then we're gonna pleat it down the center.
And that is folding it.
And then we'll create another box knot at that other end.
Now with gum paste, sometimes you need to add a little bit
of a paper towel in here to prop the bow while it dries.
Once the bow loops are dry, we'll go ahead
and place them on the cake.
This is your chance to fluff and puff a little.
You may need to add a little bit of water
to make them stick.
To finish off your bow, all you need to do
is add a little strip of gum paste.
And you can see, just adding a bow
can dress up even the simplest of cakes.

Life is difficult, scary, and there is no manual to help you through it.
Many people turn to drugs as a release, but the effects of drugs on the brain can make
this a dangerous choice.
Whether you were brought up in a home where drug use was the norm or life took you in
a strange direction, you don't have to remain on the same dangerous path.
It's important that you learn the effects drugs have on your brain so you know what
it does to your body.
Let's take a look at some of these substances now.
Stimulants Stimulants, or uppers, affect your body's
central nervous system.
These drugs create a sensation of being aware, awake, and focused.
In doing this a stimulant is increasing a few functions of your body including blood
pressure, breathing, heart rate, and blood glucose.
Not all stimulants are illegal.
Many doctors prescribe these drugs to help patients with ADHD, which leads to easy abuse
in schools.
Adderall and Ritalin are particular offenders in this category as one patient's prescription
can be sold off to others illegally.
Depressants The opposite of stimulants are depressants,
which also affect the body's central nervous system.
These are called 'downers' for its effect of slowing down and relaxing a person.
You'll find most drugs have a safe, reliable, doctor described variety.
That doesn't mean it can't be abused.
They're prescribed to patients with illnesses such as insomnia, OCD, and anxiety and can
be an important part of maintaining a normal life.
They can also be appealing to others for their sedative experience.
Inhalants Inhalants are a common choice for younger
abusers as they include common household items.
In using an inhalant through a process called 'huffing' a brief sensation of euphoria is
created.
This form of drug abuse has a high risk of physical damage such as loss of smell, nosebleeds,
and even suffocation should a person huff something that can coat their lungs.
Additionally, the drug effects on the brain include hallucinations, slurred speech, and
brain damage.
A user is also at risk for loss of consciousness, weakness, and an increased heart rate.
Common forms of inhalants include aerosol sprays, markers, glue, and gasoline.
Narcotics Opioids or narcotics are highly addictive
and include the most commonly abused legal drug, Oxycontin.
If you've wondered where the opioid epidemic began, this is it.
It's available in both natural, derived from the poppy plant, and manufactured forms.
The ones you'll find out on the street include heroin, morphine, opium, and percocet.
Narcotics can be taken in many ways.
Smoked, injected, pills, and eaten.

Hallucinogens Through the use of hallucinogens, a person

Hallucinogens work by affecting neurotransmitters in the brain such as serotonin and glutamate.
However, the exact mechanics are not fully known.
There are many different types of hallucinogens and some types, such as Peyote, have spiritual
or religious ties.
Some forms of this substance include peyote, LSD, and salvia.
You aren't alone and you never were.
The effects of drugs on the brain are terrifying and it may be difficult to feel like yourself
or to feel prepared for anything at all.
That's fine.

How to draw a simple basic t-shirt on Adobe illustrator - Duration: 8:10.
hello this is Hyosook Corkhill from SueJu Design. I will show you how to draw a
simple basic t-shirt on Adobe illustrator. This simple tutorial
can help you to finish your sample t-shirt design quick and fast. Opening
the Adobe illustrator. Then go to File and open new. Choose letterhead
size in the horizontal orientation then press create. I already created my board
so I'm going to close the window. I'm going to use the pen, rectangle and Ellipse
tool to create the shape and use the scissor tool to create different shapes or
opening lines. Go to window to open the pathfinder menu to combine the lines and
shapes. First, use the rectangle tool to draw a rectangle on the board and then
use the scissors to cut the shape in one fourth.
I'm going to remove the top one fourth of rectangle. Use only bottom three fourth of rectangle.
Second, use the Ellipse tool to draw the circle and cut it in half with
the scissor tool.
We are going to keep both half circles.
The bottom half circle, I'm going to place it in the middle of the bottom of the rectangle shapes.
Duplicate the bottom half circle to make the front neck stitch line.Copy and paste command C command V
control C control V as a shortcut
choose the pen tool to draw the shoulder line.
You click the bottom half circle to make the front neck stitch line.
Before we do that we're going to combine the line. Go to the Pathfinder menu
I would like to move the shoulder point little bit higher. Go to the direct Select tool
Choose the anchor point up and move up a little bit.
Select tool. I'm going to zoom in. Use the zoom tool or press Z.
Move the top half circle and resize the shape and fit it into the back neckline.
Make a duplicate the top half circle to make the back neck stitch line.
now we are going to choose the pen tool to draw sleeve make sure you are line up
with the body line and connect the shoulder point.
Draw the sleeve stitch line on the bottom of the sleeve. Please select.
go to the pen tool again.Deselect. Now you're finished drawing the front of the
t-shirt almost done We are going to select a whole sleeve
Right click on the mouse and group. copy and paste right click again transform reflect we are going to
reflect vertically.
now it looks good the back of the t-shirt you just have to duplicate the
front of the t-shirt and remove the back neckline using the direct select tool
Copy and paste. I'm going to zoom out
or
Remove this line and this line. Direct select tool
resize and reshape on back neck line you're happy with it. Copy and paste
you complete the front and back basic t-shirt now you can change color on the
t-shirt or you can place a logo or picture on the t-shirt thank you so much
