Remembering Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Charles Krauthammer - Duration: 8:07.

Washington is a town of proudly practical men and women of action, and

sometimes the action gets severed from thought.

Charles was a reflective person

in a not very reflective town.

I'm not suffering from any derangement syndrome

having to do with the Beltway.

I'm just trapped, unfortunately, in reality.

And all of us are. And in the end, reality wins.

Charles with a thinker. He was deep.

He had the greatest of all temperaments for a

columnist, which was he was a person of complete intellectual integrity.

I got off the the Trump train on the day he announced for the presidency. I heard him

say Mexican rapists, and I went ballistic.

But I took the view that when he was sworn in,

if you love your country, you got to hope it succeeds. And success means that the president succeeds.

I was publisher of The Washington Post in 1984,

and I used to have breakfast every Thursday morning

with Meg Greenfield, a remarkable person who was who

was the editorial page editor of The Washington Post

for 25 years or so.

And Meg was always looking for young people with

strong political opinions on both sides who could write.

It was Meg who found George Will as a columnist.

I think I first met Charles in the early 80s, maybe 1984.

He wrote a cover story for the New Republic about me,

calling me the best eighteenth-century mind in America

or something of the sort.

And I invited Charles to lunch at a little fish restaurant on upper Connecticut Avenue and was thunderstruck

when he came in in his motorized wheelchair because I

had no inkling, he never haven given anyone an inkling, that he was a paraplegic.

So Meg started talking to me in 1984 about Charles Krauthammer and said that she thought what

he'd been writing in the New Republic was amazing.

Back then, there weren't that many weekly columnists. The syndications generally

told you you had to write twice a week.

Charles said, "Well I think really having one idea a week is the most you can expect of any columnist."

And he proved them wrong.

Hundreds of newspapers did subscribe to Charles.

After a while, I think people actually took for granted what Charles did.

At age 22, Charles returned from Oxford

to go to Harvard Medical School.

He had a diving accident.

When taken to the hospital

immediately, he left behind at the swimming pool two books.

One was on spinal cords and the other was a novel by André Malraux, "Man's Fate."

Suddenly this brilliant young man was faced with something life shattering.

He could no longer use his legs, he could no longer use his hands as he had before.

Charles with the help of good friends at Harvard Medical School was able to complete his studies.

No small achievement laying on your stomach for months on end.

It is a testimony to how smart he was but above all how strong he was.

He changed his life expectations several

times, first becoming a psychiatrist, then becoming

somebody involved in politics and in a political campaign.

And then of all things, becoming a writer and such a great one.

He had to learn how to form his thoughts and then how to get them down just as he wanted.

I guess as editor, I knew him often through the eyes of the copy desk,

so that vision of Charles was a little bit scary.

He really didn't like having his copy changed and he cared about every word and he cared

about his headlines.

It's hard to overstate the impact of Charles's column over the years.

He made the case for a lot of the policies he favored and a lot of the issues he cared about much more cogently

and much more strongly than the people, than the policy makers arguing for the same policies.

Charles was a neoconservative. A leading neoconservative.

Much more confident and ambitious than I was

about America's efforts to spread democracy and freedom around the world.

And Charles was always a good strong writer but he made his reputation off of

Barack Obama.

When Obama was reelected, Charles said, "Oh great, I got another good four years to go."

He didn't just criticize Obama, he did it with a flare.

And I would have to say, you know that was a good point, Charles, you scored well.

I don't agree with it, but that was a hell of a good point you just made.

And he'd have that little gleem in his eye.

What people do not know about Charles,

partly because he had this kind of sober mean, is that he was very amusing and amusable.

I'm Charles Krauthammer responding to my mail. Some of it very nice. Some of it very not nice.

This is Louise Butler: "Krauthammer continues to prove

that smart is the new sexy." Now this is the kind of mail I like.

Charles loved his family and doted on his son, Danny Krauthammer, who

made him and Robyn just impossibly happy from the beginning.

Charles was always glad to see people, always posed certain impossible challenges. I would be excited

about some biography I'd read, and Charles would hand me a book on quantum physics.

So many of our conversations over the years were about baseball.

Charles and I mostly talked about baseball. You get your fill of talking about politics.

When I heard he was ill was the first time he was, his column disappeared.

He went in for surgery 10 months ago. In his usual understated way, he said to me,

"Wouldn't be that big a deal for a lot of people, but I'm not a good surgical candidate."

But it hit me so hard when he disclosed

the situation.

This was this was somebody too special to lose.

Reading back through some of his columns and his book, I came across this wonderful thing he wrote about

the Voyager 1 and 2 that we sent out, and he said,

"You know, what did we pick and try to show alien life

that there was intelligent life on Earth?"

We could have picked Bach, we could have picked all kinds of things. What did we pick?

The speeches of a U.N. secretary-general who, as Charles said, turned out to be a Nazi.

He said it makes you want to think send out Voyager 3, you know, recall previous message.

And I started thinking, well we ought to just

send one out with some of Charles's columns, and that would show

that there's intelligent life on Earth.

So he's left us with a lot of great columns

that we can enjoy.

I feel like the Friday page will always be missing something.

Opinion | Melania's jacket: Why we should (or shouldn't) care - Duration: 1:54.

I'm Jo-Ann Armao.

And I'm Christie Emba.

And this is why I'm right about Melania's jacket.

I confess I was not too

impressed with Melania's tweet over the weekend.

But when I heard she was taking a trip down to the border, I was really

impressed and I was gonna give her the benefit of the doubt, until I saw the

cheap stunt that she did with her jacket.

Keep in mind, this is a woman who pays

particular attention to everything.

It was not an accident. She sent a message,

And it was not a good one.

Are you sure you didn't prepare for this?

Look, I don't care about Melania's jacket honestly.

Who dressed her? Did she pick it out?

Did someone else pick it out? No one knows.

The really important thing we should be paying attention to here is

the fact that malevolence and incompetence seem to go hand in hand

in the Trump administration.

It could be either.

We don't know, and that's what should worry us.

I didn't get a five!

[Off camera: I forgot.]

"Just a jacket," her spokeswoman says.

No. It wasn't just a jacket.

This was a tactic

to have us talking about who she's trolling.

Is she trolling the media?

Is she trolling the press?

I don't care.

The fact is is that she took the attention away from

children, which is where it needed to be.

And that was just disrespectful and hateful of her.

Just a jacket? Just a troll?

I don't really care

what Melania is wearing.

I mean I care a little bit. Let's just stop wearing

clothes with words on them.

But it's a distraction from the real problem

the administration.

That's who matters and that's what we should be thinking about.

And that's why I'm right.

When you get to five,

can you like hold your hand up

so that we know that we have to close it up?

No.

You can't do that?

You can't help us

in any way?

Why not?

They do that on debates.

Ok.

THE BEST VIEW OF WASHINGTON DC - Duration: 14:02.

it's picture day at the new listing guys well what do you think modern renovated

one-bedroom right Blandon put in a bunch of mirrors makes

it look bigger guys you got to stage the properties oh hey there I am again stage

it renovate it a little bit so let let's sit down for a second

ah the thing about modern furniture is it looks good it's just not that

comfortable so I'm just gonna lounge like this so this one is a cool property

because it was rented out for a while it had been beaten up the kitchen is

original the floors were all carpet so what we did is we put in this new

engineered hardwood floor we also told the owner to put in some granite

countertops so it looks a lot nicer you know that alone is probably about close

to like 8000 or so I don't know the exact amount but you're gonna get at

least that much if not more back on the back end it's also gonna sell a lot

quicker and for a lot more he also probably paid about 1500 for the staging

which it's it makes a considerable difference because this layouts about

800 square feet and it's kind of unique in a sense that look I'm so the couch is

right here but you probably want a TV right well where are you gonna put the

TV so the last occupant couch right here looking out that way

so if you don't have the furniture actually in here even if you know

there's no TV in here if this was all empty people would wonder where to put

the TV now they have a vision a vision area of actually where to put the couch

so that helps out a lot what happens next is we're actually going to be

taking pictures doing 3d tours and also doing the video today and we're gonna be

going on the property later today but there's a few minor things here come on

let me show you that we still have to do so check this out right there boom that

is unacceptable because if you don't do the small things people are going to ask

questions about the big things so I have way too much to do today but at some

point I'm going to go out and get some cover plates I'm actually gonna get a

couple because if you can see right here if you don't do the small things guys

people are gonna wonder about the big thing so guys we went through we

renovated the floors we put in new light fixtures we put in new granite

countertops painted I say we as in not me the painters so if you do all these

things it's gonna look amazing but when people take a closer look they're gonna

see that there's no cover plates they're gonna see cover plates from 1991 so you

want to make sure to cover the small things so they don't ask questions about

the big things just drove out to Vienna I'm at my new listing a 2-bedroom 2-bath

at the marquee at Vienna Station guys what I have with me is a treasure map

see if you can see this okay look that's upside down alright maybe this is a

little bit better guys I have a treasure map and scene you got a star this is how

you get into the property now if you imagine in real estate when you're

selling your house you'll put the lockbox on the front door or if it's a

condo you put the lockbox in the lobby yeah not so much this has got to be one

of the most confusing communities to access in all of Northern Virginia you

might be thinking something mad why would you even say that maybe a buyer's

watching and they don't want to live there because it's too confusing well

guys it's confusing for real estate agents right it's confusing if you've

never been here before if you're seeing the place for the first time doing a

showing going to the open house once you do it a few times I'm actually here to

drop off these brochures we did the pictures 3d tour

virtual tour as well as the video it's the most confusing thing and the reason

that we put the lockbox here is the garage entrance is right there the goal

is to have is to simulate a day in the life of living here so what I mean by

that is they get the key fob they use that go up to the parking spot park in

the owners parking spot and then at that point they would access the unit

directly from the door that's right there the alternative would be to put

the key outside the door on the other side of the building walk up three

flights of stairs guys there's no elevator in this building it's in the

attached building walk up three flights of stairs by that time you're out of

breath you want some water I'm out of breath I

want some water it just doesn't make sense doesn't make sense to do that so

we have in here guys core water is delicious this isn't like a paid

advertisement or anything but what I like about this is it's the perfect pH

water it just tastes better for a long time I made fun of people that drink

like Fiji water right like the other losers but now I'm an adamant fan a lot

of times I drink tap water it's cloudy it's it has that that taste to it

not the same with corn water what's different is that it's the perfect pH

the tap water can be a little bit on the acidic side you won't like taste it but

and then you know if you had those that piece of paper in elementary school

where you like put it in water and it changes colors tells you if it's acidic

or basic tap water's on the acidic side so guys let's just say I like my women

like I like my water a little on the base thickly I'm not gonna finish that

joke because my girlfriend might be watching go remember kids you have your

home for a reason don't be afraid to use it

you know what I really hate like absolutely hate the mail you thought I

was gonna say traffic didn't you now traffic's alright I don't really mind it

that much but I hate sending things of value into a box putting it on a truck

and then expecting it to arrive on the other side I don't like sending

thousands of dollars that's you know certified check through the mail to my

clients I would prefer to I don't know drop it off at their actual condo door

so here in Southeast DC a pretty cool part lots of new buildings right down

near the new the new stadium the new soccer stadium and the new baseball

stadium that's now ten years old now so what I'm gonna do is just drop it off at

the front desk and then from there just let him know that hey transactions

complete I don't know many discount brokerages that are going the extra mile

to actually courier hand-deliver funds so I like to do it's kind of the bow on

the top of the transaction and it's like the last thing that they're gonna

remember is that their real-estate agent hand delivered money to them and I think

that's a good last thing last reminder for them

so yelling ah gross I have something in my tooth and I'm out right now about to

go to another appointment if only I had Oh guys I'm not gross for flossing in

the car you're gross for not flossing at all okay it is a little gross to floss

in the car but if you're out and you can't make it to the bathroom you can't

make it home your breath smells you got stuff in your teeth

use the mirror guys get some floss get some of these fellers and get some mints

it'll save you some embarrassment and people will actually want to hang out

with you because you don't smell you don't have things sticking out of your

teeth back in the friendly confines of Virginia Square and it is haircut time

so hold on a second ah guys gale force winds out here just took my hair right

off haircut is done checking that off the box I want to like show you my like

day on a map maybe I'll do that later in the video but right now I'm gonna go up

to the hardware store pick up some light covers and replace them in the condo

that we put on the market that we were looking at earlier today we're actually

getting a couple a couple nibbles a couple bites on the property from agents

that have clients that are interested so I want to run up and make sure it just

looks perfect why there's so many options I thought there'd just be one

option all right moment of truth time

perfect fit there we go guys I guessed right I'm not like an electrician or

anything I actually have zero experience with doing this I don't know if you're

supposed to turn off the power I'm not going to I don't know if that's like a

safety issue or whatever I'm just gonna fix and replace all of these I guess

I'll find out if it's gonna be an issue very shortly

they don't show you this part on HDTV the guy with the suit he never picks up

the screwdriver except we do that's the difference

don't worry just got a few left I don't have that many left

I just got 14 more it's cool it's cool guys it's cool this is what sells - Matt Leighton | Licensed in VA & DC | 1934 Wilson Blvd with Century 21 Redwood Realty

property this is what sets us apart from the other people down the street we do

this other people are lazy their properties don't sell ours do so

beautiful oh we got a V lager watch out for this guy he's got a camera in his

hand it's famous this guy people just stop him on the streets everybody knows

I'm in rouse them the grand opening of the observation

deck on the 31st story of the CB tower in Rosslyn it's now open this is the

first day of course I got tickets I paid for tickets Arlington residents can get

tickets for free and we're out here at the rods and rocks concerts my brother

he's got a YouTube channel for the frame he says he's here for the free food and

the free drinks but we have people sleep on Rosslyn Las it's got a lot going on

so we're gonna go to the observation deck and check it out

31 stories and we're going 32 we're a top 1812 now there we go these are the

views right here I feel like I'm in that building in Chicago you've been to that

building in Chicago where you can like it's on Lake Shore it's on LSD and you

can like stand on the glass it's pretty cool I like how you can compare hourly

A Foreign Spy's Trip To Washington Convicts Obama In This Horrific Scandal - Duration: 3:14.

There was collusion with covert agents in the 2016 election.

Now there is bombshell proof that it was even worse than anyone thought.

A foreign spy's trip to Washington was the smoking gun that convicts Obama in this horrific

scandal.

Christopher Steele was the ex-British intelligence agent who was commissioned by Fusion GPS – who

was hired by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democrat National Committee – to

put together the fake news Trump-Russia dossier.

Previous reports had revealed Steele's connections to both the FBI and the media.

Steele had fed his information to both entities, but neither the FBI or the media could substantiate

his wild allegations of an international espionage conspiracy between Trump officials and Russian

intelligence to rig the 2016 election.

Now the next shoe has dropped.

The Senate Intelligence Committee – which is still investigating alleged Russian collusion

and election meddling – has revealed that Steele traveled to the State Department to

brief high level Obama officials on the fake news gossip he gathered from shady Russian

sources.

Chairman Richard Burr – a North Carolina Republican – stated during the hearing:

"BASED UPON OUR REVIEW OF THE VISITOR LOGS AT THE STATE DEPARTMENT, MR.

STEELE VISITED THE STATE DEPARTMENT, BRIEFING OFFICIALS ON THE DOSSIER IN OCTOBER 2016."

Victoria Nuland – the Obama State Department's Assistant Secretary of State for European

and Eurasian Affairs – received reports from Steele beginning in the summer of 2016.

In a February interview with CBS, Nuland said she passed the reports on to the FBI:

"THIS NEEDS TO GO TO THE FBI, IF THERE IS ANY CONCERN HERE THAT ONE CANDIDATE OR THE

ELECTION AS A WHOLE MIGHT BE INFLUENCED BY THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION.

THAT'S SOMETHING FOR THE FBI TO INVESTIGATE."

Nuland also was the official who gave the "go ahead" for the FBI's legal attaché

and Steele in London.

But Nuland wasn't the only State Department official who dealt with Steele's fake news.

Jonathan Winer – who worked at the State Department for many years – prepared a two

page summary of the dossier that made its way to Secretary of State John Kerry's desk.

The next question for investigators to answer involves who at the State Department did Steele

meet with.

Did Steele meet with Secretary of State John Kerry?

If not, did the State Department officials Steele met with brief Kerry on their meeting?

Did Kerry – or other State Department officials – report back to White House on the information

Steele brought to the meeting?

Who at the White House was informed of Steele meeting with the State Department?

How did those White House aides make use of Steele's findings?

Was President Barack Obama informed?

And finally, if Obama was not apprised of the results of these meetings, why?

Why was it not brought to his attention?

Steele traveling to the State Department in October 2016 – just weeks before Election

Day – is the blockbuster proof that the Obama administration colluded with a foreign

spy to meddle in the Presidential election.

We will keep you up to date on any new developments in this story.
