Public Speaking Pitfalls - Duration: 2:02.

There are a number of common pitfalls when it comes to public speaking and I would

like to share with you three pitfalls that I'd love for you to aim to avoid

next time your public speaking or communicating to a larger audience.

Number one: avoid adopting other people's styles.

If you've got more of a formal style then be formal.

If you're more relaxed and conversational then be relaxed and conversational.

The key message here is: be yourself, be natural

and don't adopt other people's styles because you think that's what you've got to do.

Give yourself permission to just be you.

The second pitfall that I love for you to try and avoid which I see happen a lot is:

Adopting language that you wouldn't normally use in formal presentations.

The best example of this and I see this so often is people using

the phrase: "without further ado"!

This isn't something that people naturally say in conversation.

They don't say it at team meetings and they certainly don't

say it down the pub with they are ordering a beer or a glass of wine.

So why do we feel the need to say this in formal presentations?

Instead I recommend using language that you would normally use in everyday conversation.

Of course keeping it clean.

And the third pitfall in public speaking that I'd like to talk about is

this idea of focusing just on yourself as a speaker. The best advice I can give

you is to focus on your audience. When we get too caught up in ourselves what we

look like, what we sound like, what we're saying, we miss the opportunity to build

rapport with our audience. So make an about the audience and you will avoid

that pitfall of becoming too focused on yourself as a public speaker.

So try and avoid those common pitfalls:

Be yourself, use language that you would normally use and

make it about your audience!

Melania Makes First Public Appearance in Weeks With Incredible Statement Today At White House - Duration: 6:02.

Melania Makes First Public Appearance in Weeks With Incredible Statement Today At White House.

So much for all the conspiracies on Melania Trump.

The First Lady is evidently up and around, alive and more beautiful than ever.

And no, she didn't run off to New York.

First lady Melania Trump co-hosted a reception for Gold Star families with President Trump

at the White House Monday evening, marking her first public appearance since mid-May.

The event, a private East Room reception for more than 40 Gold Star military families,

was not an unusual one for Melania to attend.

Incidentally, one reporter did see her up and about last week as well.

It takes time to recover from surgery.

In a statement, Melania said it was a privilege to welcome the military families to the White

House and she thanked them and military members more broadly for their service.

"To all those who have lost loved ones in service to our country, our nation grieves

with you," her statement read.

"It is a solemn reminder that we, the American people, are able to live as freely as we do

because of the selfless sacrifices of our men and women in uniform.

We remain indebted to each of them and we honor them today, together, with their families."

A person at the event told CNN's Jeff Zeleny that the President made a lighthearted joke

about the First Lady's extended absence from public view, saying the media was asking:

"Where's Melania?"

He went on for a minute or so, saying the media was speculating where she has been.

"Did she leave him?"

the President asked at one point, before pointing out that Melania Trump was, in fact, sitting

in the front row.

Melania was last seen in public on May 10th with President Trump as they welcomed back

three American hostages released from captivity in North Korea.

On May 14th, she underwent minor kidney surgery to remove a fibrous growth at Walter Reed

National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

She was released from the hospital on May 19th and has been recovering at home in the

White House since then.

The media went into overdrive with rumors and conspiracy theories, just salivating at

the thought that either Melania was d**d or had finally left her husband.

It was disgusting.

President Trump did not even go to Israel to open the historic American embassy in Jerusalem

so he could be with his wife during all this.

But do you see that in the media?

The media walk of shame over all this includes Politico, The Washington Post, and CNN, who

have all speculated endlessly about the First Lady's absence from the public eye.

One Politico story actually had the headline, "White House Silence on Melania Stokes Conspiracy

Theories."

Their rumors spanned from d***h to plastic surgery, to moving back to New York, to an

affair to cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller.

She's holed up with the Obamas or working on a tell-all book about her husband has also

been making the rounds.

It was the fodder of gossip mongers.

Instead of focusing on historic events that the President is immersed in such as North

Korea, they wagged their tongues over the First Lady.

Melania was not brooking those rumors and shot them down last week, "I see the media

is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing.

Rest assured, I'm here at the @White House w my family, feeling great, & working hard

on behalf of children & the American people!"

Of course, that wasn't good enough for the left.

CNN's Brian Stelter lied to his Reliable Sources audience over the weekend by repeating

the false claim that First Lady Melania Trump has disappeared — that she has been "invisible."

Here's how Melania's spokeswoman addressed all this per the Western Journal:

"Stephanie Grisham, the first lady's spokeswoman, addressed Mrs. Trump's absence last week,

saying she is "doing great."

""Sadly, we deal with conspiracy theories all the time, so this is nothing new, just

more silly nonsense," Grisham said.

"She is doing great.

I wouldn't characterize it as a long absence.

She was hospitalized for almost a week and is now home and recovering."

"Grisham said the first lady "has been involved in several internal meetings with

staff all last week, and that continues this week.

We've been going over initiatives and other long-term planning for events such as the

Congressional Picnic and 4th of July."

"The spokeswoman added in a statement to Fox News on Monday, "Mrs. Trump has always

been a strong and independent woman who puts her family, and certainly her health above

all else, and that won't change over a rabid press corps.

She's confident in what she is doing and in her role, and knows the rest is just speculation

and nonsense.""

CNBC correspondent Eamon Javers in response to the Politico piece said that he saw Melania

with her aides in the West Wing last Tuesday.

Replying to a tweet by CNN's Brian Stelter about Trump's disappearance, Fox News personality

Guy Benson wrote: "at least two journalists stated publicly that they've seen her in

the last few days at the (White House)."

At Monday evening's event with Gold Star families, Melania wore a beautiful, simple

black dress and looked the picture of health.

The press was not allowed in, but the White House often releases photos following such

occasions.

Obviously, the First Lady is still not 100%.

First lady Melania Trump will skip a public event at the White House this afternoon, a

day after she briefly returned to public life following an extended absence.

That may be because she's still getting her strength back or maybe it's a scheduling

conflict, but Melania is not going anywhere and she will be just fine.

Grisham noted that the First Lady is expected to join President Trump at a Federal Emergency

Management Agency hurricane briefing on Wednesday.

Donald Trump Stuns DC – Secret Meeting at White House Goes Public - Duration: 11:23.

Donald Trump Stuns DC – Secret Meeting at White House Goes Public

President Donald Trump has surprised people all over the country with who he is meeting

at his White House today.

Daily Mail reported that Trump is meeting with reality television star Kim Kardashian

to talk about prison reform and pardoning a first-time drug offender.

She will first meet with the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, before she gets

her audience with the president.

Kardashian will be asking Trump to pardon Alice Johnson – a 62-year-old woman who

is serving a life sentence without parole for a first-time drug offense.

Kardashian has been campaigning for Johnson's release in a series of talks with the White

House over the course of the last few months.

She initially reached out to Ivanka Trump and established a connection with Kushner

through her.

Kardashian will not be joined by her husband, Kanye West, who is a Trump supporter.

During the meeting, she would like to "explain to [Trump] that, just like everybody else,

we can make choices in our lives that we're not proud of and that we don't think through

all the way."

Kushner has long pushed for prison reform, which is a deeply personal issue to him given

his father Charles' own year-long incarceration in 2005 – for tax evasion, illegal campaign

contributions, and witness tampering.

He has been an outspoken proponent of the First Step Act, which was created to offer

job training and drug-treatment programs as an incentive for inmates.

This act would also allow nonviolent offenders to have their last bits of sentences served

in halfway homes or house confinement.

"If we can start showing that we can make the prisons more purposeful and more effective

at lowering the recidivism rate over time, that may help the people who are trying to

make the argument for sentencing reform," Kushner is believed to have said in a White

House meeting earlier this month.

MELANIA TRUMP First Public Appearance For 25 Days At White House Gold Star Event - Duration: 3:59.

Melania Trump has made her first public appearance in almost a month at a reception for Gold

Star families at the White House on Monday evening.

Entering the event alongside President Trump, the first lady appeared well as she was videoed

walking in, despite the White House saying no press coverage of the event would be allowed.

She was wearing a black dress and six-inch black heels, several attendees told the DailyMail.com.

Melania stayed for the whole ceremony, which was nearly an hour long.

She didn't speak but sat in the front row as the president spoke, attendees said.

Diana Pike of Phoenix, Ariz., said the first lady looked 'beautiful' and as 'put together

as she always does.'

And that she wore 'crazy high black heels.'

Nancy Wilson said the first lady spoke to families in the room.

In a statement Monday night, Melania said it was a 'privilege' to welcome the families

to the White House.

'It was a privilege to welcome Gold Star Families to the White House today to recognize our

Nation's fallen heroes and their families.

To all those who have lost loved ones in service to our country, our nation grieves with you,'

she said.

'Thank you to those who joined us this evening and to the men and women currently serving

overseas and to their families, thank you for your service.

We send our prayers to all of those in harms way, and may God bless the United States of

America.'

Speculation has been rife about the whereabouts of Mrs. Trump ever since she went in for an

operation on her kidney on May 14.

Laughing off the rumors that have spread around Washington like wildfire, Trump refuted speculation

the couple have split, saying it was a no-go, 'Isn't that right, honey?'

According to Daily Caller reporter Jena Greene who was in attendance as a Gold Star daughter,

Trump also spoke about his wife's surgery and said Melania 'had a little problem' a

few weeks ago, but 'wouldn't miss' this event 'for anything'.

Her attendance was listed on President Donald Trump's official schedule that came out Sunday

night.

The reception was listed as closed to the press, meaning the media weren't allowed inside

to document her appearance.

It's unknown if the White House will release photographs of the occasion.

The event honored military families.

Gold Star families are those who have lost a loved one in a war.

The White House held a similar reception last year.

Roberta Lyons Nolan, of Pennsylvania, said it was a 'very emotional' ceremony where the

names of the deceased were read and a candle was lit for each one.

Sunday marked the 24th day Melania Trump had not been seen in public since she underwent

a kidney procedure.

It's unknown when her next appearance will be after her Monday night emergence.

The first lady will not accompany President Donald Trump to the G7 summit in Canada on

Friday or to his historic summit in Singapore on June 12.

She will not attend either of the prominent international events, Grisham told the DailyMail.com.

'She will not attend the G7 and there are no plans for her to travel to Singapore at

this time,' Grisham said in a statement on Sunday evening.

The first lady, 48, was a notable absence on Friday when the Trump family - Jared Kushner,Ivanka

Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Tiffany Trump - joined the president on his trip to Camp

David.

Spouses often accompany leaders to G7 meetings.

But Melania will not make the trip to Quebec on Friday, where President Trump is expected

to get grief for his new tariff policy.

Prince Philip makes Queen smile as he makes first public outing since hip operation - Duration: 2:51.

The Duke of Edinburgh attended the third day of the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Friday, more than a month after he went to the King Edward VII Hospital in central London to undergo a hip replacement operation

During his visit he was spotted sitting in the car and speaking to Queen Elizabeth II, who leaned on the black car that drove the Prince to Windsor Castle, where the event is taking place

After exchanging a few words with the Queen, the loving Prince, who appears to be wearing a white collared shirt, managed to make his wife smile

The snaps show the Duke of Edinburgh looking cheerful and chatty, apparently confirming the positive words shared by Buckingham Palace on his recovery

The royal couple were joined by Penny, Countess Mountbatten of Burma. The Royal Windsor Horse Show is a five-day event hosted in the private grounds of Windsor Castle and is said to be one of the Queen's favourite equestrian events of the year

It sees competitors taking part in a range of events from show jumping to dressage

The Duke, who retired from royal duties last year, was last seen on April 13, when he left the hospital waving to the cheering crowd from the car

Prince Philip, 96, has missed a series of events in recent weeks, including Easter Sunday Mass and the birth of Prince Louis, third children of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Earlier last month he was also due to attend an event at Windsor Castle to mark his son Prince Andrew's new role as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards

However, he was unable to attend because he was feeling "under the weather", sparking fears his recovery wasn't going as well as hope

But a courtier rushed to reassure the public. They told The Sun: "The Duke of Edinburgh has an issue with his hip which is affecting his mobility

"There's no cause for alarm but frankly he's a proud man and doesn't want to appear crocked in public

"He's not called the Iron Duke for nothing." It is still unclear whether the Queen's husband will be able to attend Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding on May 19

The royal palace reassured the public over the Prince's health conditions immediately after the operation
