A six-year-old girl was found dead near an abandoned hotel on a Scottish island this morning around three hours after she went missing from the house where she was staying
Alesha MacPhail was reported missing by relatives in Rothesay, Isle of Bute early this morning - before she was found dead in woodland two and a half hours later
Her grandmother Angela King had put out a Facebook appeal around 6.30am today, saying: 'Alesha has gone missing from our house, please help look for her
' The youngster is believed to have been staying with her father Rab MacPhail and grandparents Calum MacPhail and Ms King on the island in the Firth of Clyde, The Sun reported
After going missing at 6.25am today, Alesha's body was found at about 9am on the site of the former Kyles of Bute Hydropathic Hotel, which was demolished in the 1970s
Local property developer John Morrison said: 'I saw the police barriers about 500 yards back on the road

'It was a horrible shock. Then just after that more police started to come, men in the white suits, and a van full of police who I take it had been searching earlier
Mr Morrison told BBC News: 'Terrible, terrible. We are going to know the family or someone connected with them
It brings it right home, it is such a shock. I feel so sorry for the family.' People took to Facebook to offer their condolences to Ms King, with one saying: 'This is just awful news

25am this morning, police were informed a six-year-old girl was missing in Rothesay
'A search was undertaken to try and locate the child. At around 9am the body of a young female child was discovered in the grounds of an old hotel
The police spokesman continued: 'An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the incident
'The spokesman added the child's body was discovered in woodland, on the site of the former hotel, near to Ardbeg Road
Police have not confirmed the cause of death. The island has a population of around 6,500 and sits around 40 miles west of Glasgow
A hotel was first built on the site where the girl's body was found in 1877, but that burned down and was rebuilt and reopened in 1911
The Kyles of Bute Hydropathic Hotel, as it became known, was requisitioned by the Admiralty during the Second World War, but closed in the 1970s and was later demolished
