The greatest mystery in physics is probably how particle physics and gravity can be combined

in one model.

The mathematical structure of "Lie-Group-E8"could help here.

It has symmetry properties and could bring about a uniform theory in physics - quasi

the "theory of everything", more specifically THE world formula par excellence!

Welcome to Clixoom Science & Fiction!

Here you'll find exciting science videos three times a week, subscribe to the channel, only

then you won't miss a video, a warm welcome.

It should describe all processes and states in the universe, from the smallest things

in the quantum range to the largest cosmic structures at all.

And a US physicist claims to have set it up.

What can this alleged "world formula" really do and what is behind it?

In the 1960s, physicists had already discovered that elementary particles with their different

properties such as mass and charge can be brought into a certain order.

These are the so-called Lie groups, i.e. structures in mathematics that have special symmetry

properties.

The simpler groups can be used to describe objects such as cones or cylinders.

Even if they are rotated, they look the same.

The so-called E8 structure is different; it is much more complex.

It comprises a total of 248 dimensions and this does not mean spatial dimensions, but

degrees of freedom.

Thus the variables of a system, with whose size change also the complete structure changes.

With their help, research teams have developed the standard model of elementary particle

physics over time.

Specifically, it consists of a combination of a total of three Lie groups in which all

known elementary particles and three of the fundamental forces are taken into account.

But one important thing is missing: gravity.

For a long time it was assumed that this problem would solve itself in the course of time:

Exactly, by the discoveries of a Lie group, which also does not exclude gravity.

But this did not happen and by other ideas for a uniform theory of physics the E8 theory

moved into the background.

In 2007, however, it hit the headlines again with researcher Antony Garrett Lisi of the

University of San Diego.

He filled the E8 structure with various known particles and forces; he then assigned hypothetical

particles to the 20 unoccupied points.

In a computer simulation he then rotated the structure.

The pattern results show how the particles and forces may interact.

The big thing about it is that these correspond to the measurement results in the real world.

Lisi: "At that moment my brain exploded when I saw the implications and the beauty of this

thing.

I thought, "Holy smoke, that's it."

For example, quarks placed themselves around gravitational electromagnetic particles - in

families of three particles each with the same properties, but different masses.

The standard model also describes these particles in the same way.

Lisi published his results under the title: "An extraordinary theory of everything".

Lisi particularly pointed out that his model does without strings; and that it is so "simple"

and "beautiful".

Lisi is sure that the universe is based on pure geometry.

But one thing is still outstanding: the final experimental proof, or at least solid evidence

of his theory.

This would be the case, for example, if the Large Hadron Collider near Geneva were to

detect the 20 particles that Lisi had filled its structure with.

Smaller indications of E8 symmetry have already been discovered in an experiment.

A research team from Oxford had cooled niobium and cobalt crystals to 0.4 degrees above absolute

zero.

The atoms formed long chains and the electrons behaved like small bar magnets due to their

spin, a kind of angular momentum of the particles.

And because of this, a pattern spontaneously formed when the research team applied a strong

magnetic field at right angles to the spin axes.

The surprise was great when it was discovered that the spins had arranged themselves according

to the E8 symmetry.

Why exactly and what is behind it - that is still a big mystery.

But it is exciting that E8 is not just a mathematical construct, but can actually be found in the

real world...

And another word about string theory, which has long eclipsed the E8 model due to its

brilliance: In any case, some physicists are of the opinion that the E8 model does not

contradict string theory at all, but only complements it.

We once reported here in detail about string theory, in which the elementary particles

assume different properties depending on the state of vibration.

In contrast to the E8 model, it does not exclude gravity - however, the oscillation of the

strings refers to up to 21 spatial dimensions - depending on the model.

In any case, both formulas together would unite the theory of relativity and quantum

theory into one - into a world formula of "quantum gravity".

But there is still a lot to be done, because there is no experimental proof yet for string

theory.

But there is also a hint in our video about this topic: Does our universe not exist?

Will String theory be proven soon?

How to Make Matcha À La Mode (Matcha Ice Cream) -Simple 1 minute recipe to make tasty green tea dish - Duration: 1:26.

I will show you how to make Matcha A La Mode.

A La Mode is French word meaning "in fashion" and describes a sweet dish with ice cream.

Matcha A La Mode is basically matcha with ice cream.

To make Matcha A La Mode, mix 1 tablespoon of matcha with ¼ cup of hot water with a

temperature of 175 degrees f (or 80 degree c) and whisk them until they form little bubbles.

You can use a bamboo whisk, electric whisk, Milk Frother or simply a metal whisk.

Here, I am using a Milk Frother. It takes about 30 seconds. When you are whisking manually

using a metal or bamboo whisk, you want to whisk for about one minute.

You can pour the whisked mixture over one scoop, two scoops or three scoops or more

of vanilla ice-cream. I am using Häagen-Dazs ice-cream which is my personal favorite. Their

vanilla flavor goes very well with the bitterness of matcha without covering much of the matcha

aroma.

Make sure to serve quickly after you pour the matcha because the hot matcha melts the

ice-cream quickly. The melting ice-cream is part of the sensation you want to enjoy with

this dish.

Learn 1 simple key to immediate energy & vitality! - Duration: 9:22.

today we're gonna discuss one simple key to immediately give you more energy and

vitality I'll give you a hint you can't live without it

hi this is John Ruman if we have not met before my mission in life is to help you

achieve the greatness you are destined for every single moment in every single

day there are certain things that I'm sure you've heard all throughout your

life that are challenging for you to live without water food and what's the

one that just a couple short minutes you're out of air so the miracle of

oxygen and your body's ability to use it and leverage it throughout your entire

system is a major key for you to feel amazing regardless how you're feeling

now one of the things that makes exercise besides being so nice because

you feel refreshed and endorphins are released and serotonin and all these

wonderful chemicals that make you feel happy and positive your body also

experiences a great deal of oxygenation typically at a much higher level than

you just sitting down and relaxing one of the major benefits of oxygenating

your body is it is happier and more energetic so one of the things actually

this Sunday's workshop is I'll show you a couple breathing techniques one of

which is a hyper oxygen native technique which is powerful provocative and

they've actually are studying it and it's about to blow your mind

it actually has been studying right now for so you can actually learn how to

change your body temperature that you can actually fight off disease and if

you have an illness literally the next 24 hours or so you can get rid of it and

they're actually the people who or the person who kind of started this whole

movement around this actually he's able to fend off a powerful toxin within a

half-hour hour of being injected with some

that would normally kill a person in a relatively short time

long story short oxygen and your ability to acclimate and receive it and

experience the benefits truly are profound so my lesson for you today is

find the opportunity to exercise so you actually get more oxygen and then

beautiful body that you have by the way it feels great just to move your body so

just being active is a wonderful experience in itself if you're not in

good shape I would encourage you just simply go for a walk even for a few

minutes experience fresh air try not to be in a

stifled indoor environment if you can be outside if you live in an environment

I'm in Trinidad there's some farming areas that agricultural don't go where

there's spring so be cognizant of toxins and all that but go outside feel the air

breathe the air ideally for Maxim oxygenation on just basic movement it's

called aerobics and if you everyone think of aerobics as like Zumba and all

that kind of stuff aerobics just means oxygenation so when

you do a rope and aerobic exercise most of the time your body actually goes to

oxygen deprivation you should be able to easily and comfortably talk when your

body's in anaerobic state hey guys good to see you so I would encourage you if

you have the desire to get a better aerobic activity within your body a pee

walk or a potentially a fast walk is really all you need to do again you're

you you should the fitness industry has actually taught people wrong what

aerobics actually are aerobic activity again is bree is oxygenating your body

basically energizing your body by giving a lot of oxygen which has a unbelievably

powerful effect of actually causing fat loss

so there's a strong correlation between doing the handful things I'll discuss

this on Sunday but one of which is walking and walking on a consistent

regular basis aerobic ly again not so much your panting it can be leisurely

but ideally it's it's a brisk walk so you actually feel like you're breathing

a little bit if you're in warm weather you could be sweating and then but not

so you're gasping for air if you're walking with a friend or whatever you

should be able to easily talk to them that's aerobic activity anything that

makes you gasp anything that makes you feel short of breath is actually an

anaerobic activity so again the fitness world has kind of confused people but

it's important to understand there's a distinction and both are beneficial I'm

not pooping an aerobic activity but most fitness things are actually anaerobic

not aerobic aerobics this aerobics is an anaerobic activity not aerobic activity

there's a distinction so our OPIC activity will energize your

body will oxygenate your system it will help you to burn fat powerful anaerobic

does not have that benefit it will energize you which is why a brisk walk

feels so good also fresh air is better and then there are some breathing

exercises I don't time to do it now but there are some breathing exercises that

you can do which will oxygenate your system and you'll feel calm yet

unbelievably mentally alert and your body will have a sense of ready to do

something it doesn't mean pumped up I'm ready to sprint up a hill although it

could it just means that you're very ready I would make it a kin to ninja or

the martial arts thing or people like in this zone so ideally you want to feel

calm and collective when you're done so anyway so I want to in my live on a time

basis nice so thank you for checking us out if you do have any interest on

learning these breathing activities and have a better understanding about how to

get more vitality and energy within yourself hey Donna I would encourage you

to hey show good to see you trying to say hi to

everyone I would encourage you to check out my workshop I have a workshop on

Sunday 2:00 p.m. the 5:00 p.m. all about energy vitality all about how to move

how to feed your brain to make you more mentally alert calm and collected how to

make your body feel energized yet not exhausted and certain methods and

workout routines and things you can do to kind of maximize that I'm gonna go a

little bit into sleep I'll actually hit diet a fair amount I'll hit hydration a

fair amount and yes and again the breathing will be a major component

because if you're not breathing well good luck so a lot of people who are

really in not great shape physically have terrible breathing so one last

thing I just came in to mind is if you know any smokers one of the reason

people love smoking is it's a very calming effect if a you ever smoked I'm

a former smoker but when you inhale a cigarette deep inhale

they actually smokers find a very calming to smoke because there's a well

there's the expression of a calming of smoking and they're now coming up and

those who I may get some pushback on this I welcome it I used to smoke and I

used to think the need to smoke was incredible what they are finding and you

may find me crazy bring it on bring it on is that smoking is actually

potentially not addictive it is the unbelievably positive state your body

gets when it has a high amount of oxygenation the body they're finding is

actually addicted to feeling amazing to the high oxygen levels not the nicotine

so what we had heard all those years again bring it on I haven't studied this

enough to really say for sure but I'd like to open it up out there so just a

thought just thought so if you've ever smoked remember what you would always do

is big inhale anyway you would do that 20 or 40 times per cigarette

much deeper than you ever did and you'd often go outside funny huh all right so

if you have any questions I'd love to see a bunch of you at the workshop on

Sunday it's gonna be incredible I'm gonna teach you what I teach all my

private clients because a lot of them get little pieces I'm just gonna dump a

huge amount of valuable information it's gonna be awesome

and you're gonna love it so any questions ask me here on whatever stream

you happen to see this I hope you have an amazing rest of your day thanks for

your night bye-bye

The Simple Way To 'Unlock' The MINOR Modes On Bass - Duration: 8:25.

How do the modes of the minor scale work? And are they any different to the modes of the major scale?

Are they related at all? And if so, how?

Hi, I'm Luke from Become A Bassist and in if you've ever asked yourself these questions

or wondered about the modes of the minor scale, then keep watching.

A funny thing happens when bass players learn the modes of the major scale and how they

work.

A lot of the time, rather than answering their questions, it just brings up MORE questions.

This is exactly what happened to an email subscriber of mind named Lasse who wrote to

me and asked:

"I have gone through your ultimate guide to the modes.

It really cleared up a lot of things for me!

But I have one question left: When the song is in a minor key, I guess that the major

scale modes don't fit.

What am I supposed to use then?

I really like the idea that with the major scale, the modes fit the chords perfectly.

I'm hoping that there is a similar way for minor keys"

This is a great question!

Now if you're not sure how the modes of the major scale work yet, then this lesson

probably won't make a lot of sense.

You really need to have that knowledge as a foundation, and if you need help, check

out my Ultimate Guide To The Modes For Bass that Lasse mentioned.

You'll learn exactly how the modes work, plus where exactly to use them, and it's

all jargon-free.

No needlessly complicated terms or explanations - just a simple way to master the modes on

bass.

To get it, just click the link in the description of this video, fill out the form on that page

and I'll send it straight to your email address, 100% free.

Right now though, let's tackle this question.

The good news, is that once you've put in the hard work of learning the major modes,

then you already know the minor modes!

If the song you're playing is in a minor key, you can still use the modes of the major

scale.

All you have to do is start in a different place in the scale.

For example, if you're in the key of G major, you'd have the notes G-A-B-C-D-E-F# and

G again, and from there, you could build out the chord scale: G major, A minor, B minor,

C major, D major, E minor, F# diminished and G major again.

And over these chords you'd play G Ionian, A Dorian, B Phrygian, C Lydian, D Mixolydian,

E Aeolian, F# Locrian and then G Ionian again up the top.

These are our major modes - if you already know this stuff, then this is just a review

for you.

So what does this have to do with the modes of the minor scale?

Well check this out.

If you look at the 6th mode of the major scale, you get Aeolian.

This sound [plays scale] The other name for Aeolian is just the natural minor scale.

A lot of the time, when people say that a song is in the key of whatever minor, this

is the home base - this Aeolian, this natural minor scale.

Any time you hear Aeolian, you can just think natural minor.

G Aeolian - that's just G natural minor.

B Aeolian?

Just B natural minor.

But if we go back to our E Aeolian and build everything from this E natural minor scale,

we'll get the minor modes on bass.

Check this out.

If our new home base is this E Aeolian scale, then we'll have the notes E, F#, G, A, B,

C, D and E again.

If we build out the chords using these notes we'll end up with E minor, F# Diminished,

G major, A Minor, B minor, C major, D major and E again, which means our modes will look

like this.

E Aeolian, F# Locrian, G Ionian, A Dorian, B Phrygian, C Lydian, D Mixolydian and E Aeolian

at the top again.

You'll notice that it's the exact same notes, same chords, same everything - we're

just now starting at a different point in the scale and in this case it gives us modes

for all the chords in the key of E minor.

So if you're in the key of E minor and any of the chords from that key come along, you

can now apply these same modes to those chords and know exactly what's going to work.

This also means that the key of E minor and G major are related, right?

They use the same notes, the same chords, the same modes - everything is the same.

This is where it gets interesting.

Every major key has a relative minor key - the minor key that uses the same notes as the

major key - and that also means that every minor key has a relative major key - the major

key that uses the same notes as the minor key.

We've just found out that E minor was the relative minor of G major and G major was

the relative major of E minor - they're a related pair of keys.

But you don't have to go through this whole modes process just to figure this out.

There's a much easier way.

So here's the formula for figuring out your relative keys.

If you're in a major key and want to find your relative minor, just go down 3 frets

from the root and that's it!

For example, if you're in the key of Bb major and want to find the relative minor,

just go down a minor 3rd.

In other words, go down 3 frets.

From Bb to A, Ab, G - so G minor would be the relative minor of Bb major.

If you're in a minor key and want to find the relative major, just do the reverse - go

up 3 frets from the root of the minor key.

So if you're playing a song in C# minor, just go up 1, 2, 3 - and you'll find that

E major is the relative major of C# minor.

E major and C# minor are a pair of relative keys.

Couldn't be simpler!

If you want another way to imagine it, think about pairing up Ionian modes and Aeolian

modes from the same key.

For example, if you know your D major modes really well, then you'll know that your

6th mode - your Aeolian, is B Aeolian.

So you could very quickly figure out that B minor is the relative minor of D major and

vice versa.

Like I said before though, if you don't understand your major modes, you'll probably

have a hard time trying to understand the minor modes since they're so closely related.

If things are still hazy for you, make sure you check out my free Ultimate Guide To The

Modes For Bass.

In it, you'll learn exactly how the modes work and where to use them, plus you'll

get 24 practice tracks that you can use to start mastering the modes today.

Just click the first link in the description of this video, fill out the form and I'll

send it straight to your inbox.

It's 100% free and 100% fun, so go ahead and get started with it today.

Now there are actually minor scales other than the natural minor, or Aeolian that do

exist.

These are scales like the harmonic minor and the melodic minor, which are much less common,

and they have all of their own modes and everything as well.

However, knowing the natural minor modes - the ones built from the Aeolian scale - will work

for you the majority of the time - unless you start playing music that's a bit more

harmonically complex.

To recap though, you learned all about the modes of the minor scale.

You learned that the modes of the minor scale and the modes of the major scale are the same,

just starting at different places within that scale.

If you start on the 6th mode, the Aeolian, that will give you the natural minor scale

and once you build out the modes from there, you'll notice they're the same as the

major modes, just starting at a different point within the scale.

You also learned how the major keys and minor keys are related and how to find both your

relative major - by going up 3 frets - and how to find your relative minor - by going

down 3 frets.

Thanks so much for watching - I really appreciate it.

Make sure to check out that guide on the site - I'm sure you'll get a ton out of it.

I'm Luke from Become A Bassist and I'll see you in another video soon.

Sound More American: Three Simple Changes to Improve Your Pronunciation for an American Accent - Duration: 14:29.

Simple changes can often be the most effective.

This is a guiding principle in most everything I do, including accent and communication coaching.

So often we think that we need to make big, dramatic changes in order to get the results we want.

This mindset can keep us from taking action because we think that we're further from our

goals than we actually are.

When it comes to improving your accent and sounding more like a native English speaker,

subtle shifts can have a big impact on how people perceive you, and whether or not they

understand you.

In this video, we're going to talk about three simple changes you can make in order to sound

more American when speaking English.

Whether I'm doing an accent assessment or working with my coaching clients, these are

suggestions I make again and again.

And I'm going to share them with you in today's video.

So let's get started.

Number one: move your mouth on long vowels and diphthongs.

One of the most effective ways to improve your accent and sound more American is to

move your mouth more when pronouncing vowel sounds, especially long vowels and diphthongs.

I once heard someone say that Americans clearly pronounce their vowels while Brits clearly

pronounced their consonants.

Whether that's true or not, increasing how much you move your mouth when saying vowel

sounds will definitely help you sound more natural.

Remember, when we stress or emphasize a syllable, we make the vowel sound longer, louder, and

higher in pitch with extra clarity.

In other words, moving your mouth more on vowel sounds is a simple way to speak clearly

and be more easily understood.

So let's talk about how and why you need to move your mouth more when saying these vowel

sounds in American English.

Even if your native language has similar vowels to English, chances are these are what we

call pure vowels.

This basically means that your mouth stays in one position when pronouncing the sound.

On the other hand, long vowels in English are what we call off-glides.

This means that our mouth moves from the main vowel sound to form a shape

at the end of the vowel.

We also do this when pronouncing diphthongs, which by definition contain two different

vowel sounds.

Let's look at some examples so that you can see and hear what I mean.

Let's start with the sound a, a, a as in day or train.

As you can see, my mouth is moving into the "y" shape when I pronounce this vowel sound

- a, a, a.

My mouth moves more on this particular sound than a more pure vowel where your mouth stays

more or less in the same position.

My mouth opens to the "y" shape: a, a, a.

It almost looks like your mouth is smiling: a, day, train.

When you first start adding this shaping to the vowel sounds at the end, it can feel a

little uncomfortable at first.

But it's absolutely essential to pronouncing the vowels accurately in English.

Let's try it again: day, day, day, train, train, train.

As you can see, my mouth is moving through different shapes.

Let's practice with the "e" sound, e, e, e, as in the words "see" and "between."

You can see that my mouth is moving once again to the "y" shape at the end of that vowel

sound: see, between, see, between, see, between.

My mouth is opening into the "y" position and then closing back down when I'm done with

the sound.

Now let's look at i, i, i.

My mouth is opening into that "y" shape at the end of the diphthong - i, i, i - and then

closing back down afterwards.

Sky, sky, sky.

Why, why, why.

As you can see, moving my mouth more on those vowel sounds helps me pronounce them more clearly.

Let's move on to o, o, o.

Unlike the previous three vowels, we add the "w" sound to the end of the "o" sound: o, o, o.

I often think of this shape as a fish opening and closing its mouth: o, o, o.

For example: no, no, no, though, though, though.

As you can see, adding the additional vowel shaping at the end of the vowel sound helps

you pronounce the word accurately: no, no, no, though, though, though.

Now let's talk about the "oo" sound.

Like the "o," we add the shape of the "w" onto the end of this vowel sound: oo, oo,

oo, as in the words too, too, too, and soon, soon, soon.

As you can see, adding the shape of the "w" to the end of this vowel makes it clear what

vowel sound I'm using: oo, oo, oo.

Now let's look at some diphthongs: oi, oi, oi, as in the word "boy" or "choice."

My mouth is moving through all of these different shapes and that's what's helping me pronounce

the sound more accurately.

Boy, boy, boy, choice, choice, choice.

Next, let's talk about the "ou" sound: ou, ou, ou, as in about and loud.

As you can see, my mouth is moving to the "w" shape at the end of that vowel sound:

about, about, about, loud, loud, loud.

Moving your mouth more when pronouncing this sound will help you get it right.

Last, let's talk about the "u" sound, as in the words "few" and "university: u, u, u.

As you can see my mouth is starting in the "y" shape, moving to the "oo" sound, and ending

with the w shape.

This is a really tricky sound for many non-native speakers because you have to move your mouth

through so many different shapes on this particular vowel.

Few, few, few, university, university, university.

If you find it challenging to pronounce these vowel sounds, you just need to practice.

Take some time to make a list of words you use all the time that contain these vowel sounds.

Practice adding the shaping at the end of the vowels.

With time, this will get easier, it will feel more natural, and it won't feel like you're

forcing this additional shape at the end of the vowels.

Creating this glide with your mouth at the end of the sound does more than help you pronounce

them accurately.

It also helps you create a natural-sounding transition between stressed and unstressed syllables.

On top of that, when you create the right shape at the end of these vowel sounds, it

looks right to a native English speaker who may be reading your lips or watching your

mouth in order to follow what you're saying.

Moving your mouth more on vowel sounds really helps people understand you.

With short vowel sounds in American English, we often include a little bit of vowel shaping

at the end of these sounds as well, although it's not as exaggerated.

After all, short vowel sounds are more relaxed and require less mouth movement.

To get started, focus on moving your mouth more on long vowels and diphthongs and words

you use all the time.

Test it out for yourself and see if native speakers find it easier to understand you.

I have a feeling you're going to be very happy with the results.

Number two: soften your "t" sounds.

One of the most obvious characteristics of American English is how we pronounce or even

change the "t" sound.

When you first learn the "t" sound, you often learn it as a strong aspirated sound.

That means you should feel a puff of air leaving your mouth when you tap your tongue to the

ridge of your mouth.

In order to check if you are producing this puff of air at the end of the sound, you can

put your hand in front of your mouth and see if you can feel your breath touch your hand,

you can put a mirror in front of your mouth and watch to see if you fog up the mirror,

or you can put a piece of paper in front of your mouth and see if your breath moves the paper.

This strong "t" sound is perfectly fine when the sound appears at the beginning of a word,

which is when the sound is most distinct and most obvious: time, today, ten, talk, too.

But when you say the "t" sound too forcefully, it can sound aggressive, like you're spitting

like a camel: time, today, talk, ten, too.

Do you hear the difference from the way I said the sound a few moments ago?

In order to sound more natural, I want you to see if you can back off of that sound a little bit.

You'll still release a puff of air, but it will sound less obvious.

Beyond that, when the "t" sound appears in the middle or at the end of a word, it often

sounds a little softer.

Listen to how I just said the word "softer."

I didn't say "softer," I said "softer, softer."

Pull it back a little when pronouncing the "t" sound.

Here are a few more examples.

Pretend, pretend, pretend.

Hotel, hotel, hotel.

Guitar, guitar, guitar.

Fifteen, fifteen, fifteen.

As you can hear, I'm not pronouncing the "t" sound in the middle of these words very forcefully.

I'm saying it just enough so that you can understand what sound I'm using.

When the "t" sound appears at the end of the word, you want to make sure your mouth ends

in the "t" position without releasing air afterwards.

If you pronounce the "t" sound strongly at the end of the word, you may actually add

an additional sound to the end of the word, like the "uh" sound, and the word is going

to sound off because you're adding an extra syllable.

Let's look at a few examples.

Cat, cat, cat.

Get, get, get.

Boat, boat, boat.

Light, light, light.

Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.

As you can see, my mouth is ending in the "t" position.

My tongue is still touching the ridge of my mouth, but I'm not releasing air at the end

of these particular words.

This is especially obvious when one of these words comes at the end of your sentence.

You want to end in the "t" position without releasing that extra air at the end.

Pulling back from the "t" sound will help you sound more American.

Once again, try to be more gentle when pronouncing the sounds.

Of course, we can't forget to mention one of the most obvious characteristics of American

English, the flap "t."

The flap "t" is when the "t" sound converts into a soft "d" sound, when your tongue taps

against the ridge of your mouth.

The flap "t" happens between vowel sounds, after the "r" sound, and often after the "n" sound.

Here are some examples.

Water, water, water.

Computer, computer, computer.

Letter, letter, letter.

Bottle, bottle, bottle.

Matter, matter, matter.

Butterfly, butterfly, butterfly.

Beauty, beauty, beauty.

City, city, city.

Dirty, dirty, dirty.

Article, article, article.

Center, center, center.

Wanted, wanted, wanted.

While people will definitely understand you if you fully pronounce the "t" sound in those

examples, it will make you sound more British.

Learning to use the flap "t" will help you sound more American.

Pay attention to words where you hear this flap "t" and practice them.

By the way, you can apply this suggestion to soften the "t" sound to other consonant

sounds as well.

Think about how you can pronounce consonants a little more gently, especially at the end of words.

Number three: change your pitch consistently.

Last but not least, let's talk about how you can change your pitch in order to sound more

American.

In order to sound more natural, you want to include more pitch variation when speaking.

As you can hear, we consistently move between pitch levels when speaking English.

While this is true in British English, Australian English, and other varieties of English, Americans

tend to sound much more expressive.

To improve how you sound, you want to start experimenting with how you use pitch.

Be sure to increase your pitch on the most important words in your speech.

Try shifting your pitch up when you're asking a question for clarification or confirmation.

Try shifting your pitch down at the end of your statements or when asking for information.

See how you can pronounce words more clearly by increasing your pitch on stressed syllables,

in addition to those extra clear vowel sounds we just practiced.

Yes, of course there are guidelines you can follow for word and sentence stress, and I

have plenty of videos that can help you get started.

But first I want you to start experimenting so that you get more comfortable with changing

your pitch and get more control over how you use your voice.

When you start playing around with pitch, you start seeing how powerful it is.

Think about other non-native speakers who you think have a good accent.

A big part of that is how much pitch variation they include when speaking English.

Once again, simply start experimenting and see if it changes how people perceive you.

Be sure to check out my resources on pitch in the description below the video.

So let's review these three simple changes you can make in order to sound more American

when speaking English.

First, move your mouth more on long vowels and diphthongs.

This additional shaping at the end of vowel sounds will help you pronounce words more

accurately.

Next, soften the way you use the "t" sound, especially in the middle or at the end of words.

Try using the flap "t" on words you use all the time.

This is a really noticeable characteristic of American English.

Finally, change your pitch consistently throughout your speech.

Increase your pitch on stressed syllables of key words.

Let your pitch rise when asking for clarification or confirmation, and fall when you're giving

or asking for information.

To have some fun practicing your pitch, be sure to check out my videos on pitch exercises

and intonation exercises.

Have fun with your pitch.

That's how you're going to start feeling more comfortable.

How to Create Awesome Passwords - Simple 3-Step Process (both with and without technology) - Duration: 7:00.

- We all know that we need better passwords

but it feels like too much trouble.

Thankfully, it doesn't have to be

as I'm gonna share with you in this guide

to creating better and more secure passwords.

Hi, I'm Josh, and we're gonna start this with a little quiz.

I want you to think of any one of your passwords,

be it your bank, your email,

anything that you can think of

and answer these four questions, yes or no.

First, is that password longer than 12 digits long?

Second, does that password contain uppercase,

lowercase, numbers, and letters?

Third, is that password unique,

meaning that it hasn't been used

on any other account that you have?

And fourth, has that password been changed

in the past six months?

Now if you answered no to even two of those questions,

you've failed, but that's okay, you are in good company.

Trust me, so many of us are in the same boat.

All that means is that we need to take a few extra moments

to secure ourselves online by creating better passwords.

And what I wanna do right now

is walk you through a three step process

to do that very quickly and very efficiently.

Step one, select a process to create new passwords.

And this is something that we need to do

before we start changing our passwords

is we need to select that process,

and let's lay some ground rules.

First of all, changing letters into symbols is not secure.

Changing password into password is not gonna cut it.

Likewise, if you can actually save your password

really easily, such as crazy monkey

with a capital C, an at instead of an A,

and a zero instead of an O,

again, that's a little too easy.

Whereas if I were to give you this password,

it would take me about 20 to 30 seconds for me

to explain the whole password to you

the capitals, the lowercase,

the symbols and the numbers.

That is a secure password and that's what we're aiming for

with all of our accounts.

Those kind of secure passwords.

Now before you get a little bit overwhelmed

by the idea of having to create all these passwords,

let me explain that it is a lot easier than you think.

There's a couple methods, some that rely on technology,

and some that you can do on your own.

Let's start with the ones that you can do on your own.

My favorite method for creating these secure passwords

is to use a poem or a line in a song

or a favorite line that you like,

whatever it is, and create a password out of that.

Let's take an example of the poem Jack and Jill.

If I were to take the first line of that poem

and turn it into a password, it might look like this.

Jack and Jill went up the hill

to fetch a pail of water.

And as you can see, this password

is more than 12 digits long,

it contains capitals, lowercase, numbers, symbols,

and it's unique, or at least it's unique for this.

How would you take and make this password unique

for all of your accounts?

Especially if you don't wanna be writing

all of these weird ones down

and having to come up with new ones every single time.

Well the way that I've gone about it

in some of the accounts that I've had is I've taken,

let's say I'm gonna create a password for Facebook.

I'll take the first letter of Facebook, an F,

put it at the beginning,

and then I'll take the last letter of Facebook, K,

and put it at the end.

And I'll do that for ever single one of the accounts

that I'm creating.

If it's gonna be Gmail then I'll have a G at the front

and an L at the end.

That creates a unique password for every single one of them.

Now, this is a much better method

than probably what you're currently doing,

but it isn't the most secure method.

The most secure method is to just create

randomness as much as you can without any sort of semblance

of what you could explain very easily

like I'm doing right here.

And that's where technology comes into play.

There's a lot of password managers.

I use a password manager myself called Dashlane.

There are a number of others you can try.

I've put links in the description below.

What these do is they have a password generator,

and you can find these even online as well.

They generate a password that is very long,

very hard to say, and you can just copy

and paste that password in.

Now how do you remember that password?

That's what we're gonna get to in step two.

The key right now is to set up a process

to create the passwords.

Is it something you're gonna do in your head,

or is it something you're gonna do using technology.

I recommend you use technology at this point,

but that is entirely up to you.

Step two, we need to create a way to store

these secure passwords.

Now the last thing you wanna be doing

is writing down all these passwords on a piece of paper

and having to bring that piece of paper

with you wherever you go or pull it out every time

that you need to sign in to one of your accounts.

So what's a way that you can do that?

Well I already shared with you one of the ways,

which is to create one that you can remember

and that is unique for every single one of the accounts.

The other way is to use, like I said, a password manager.

Now if you look, as I'm using this password manager,

I've created all of the different accounts

that I have, and there is a unique password

that is set up for every single one of these accounts.

And while I'm on my computer

it syncs with my phone and my tablet.

All of those passwords stay synced up

and it's behind a single master password

that I need to know.

For my phone it can be my finger print,

but for the computer I need to have a secure password

that I use that allows me to get in and add these passwords

whenever I'm signing in to all my accounts.

Alright, step three.

Now we need to systematically go through

all of our accounts and change our passwords.

And before you freak out

about how much time that might take,

let's first just say what's important

is to get your most sensitive accounts changed.

I would go through, get a piece of paper,

and list out the most sensitive accounts.

Those are the ones that

if someone were to have your password

and to be able to get into these accounts,

they could do irreparable damage to your credit

or to your identity.

I would spend one day just getting

all of those sensitive accounts their passwords changed

using either the method we talked about

or a password manager like Dashlane.

Once you do that, then you can go through

and maybe spend five to 10 minutes a day,

or just anytime you log in to this new account

like Facebook or Twitter or Pinterest,

these place where, yes, a secure password is good

but it's not absolutely going to destroy you

if somebody hacks into that account,

that's when you need to go through

and change all of those passwords as well.

It might take you a little while.

I just decided to sit down

with one or two hours and just knock it all out

so that I had secure passwords.

And if I have a password manager like Dashlane or others,

when I try to log in,

it will automatically input those passwords

so I don't have to go through and copy and paste.

The only thing I need to know

is my master key password for that account

which could be my fingerprint

or it could be the actual password on my computer.

So to recap you need to select a process

to create secure passwords,

to store those passwords securely,

and then to systematically change those passwords.

And that includes changing your sensitive account passwords

about every six months or less.

I hope this was helpful.

If so, give it a thumb's up.
