The new generation of royals has been criticised for performing far fewer public engagements in 2018 than their elderly relatives

Second in line to the throne Prince William, 36, carried out less than half of the workload taken on by his 70-year-old dad, the Prince of Wales

Anti-monarchy group Republic said: "How can the monarchy survive when the younger generation can't be bothered to do even the light workload of their parents?  "It's not work as the rest of us know it

Their hours include watching sports matches and theatre.  "But the real question these figures raise is does William want to be king?  "Or is he just doing the bare minimum to keep his family happy in the hope he can have his cake and eat it?"  Wills' total of 220 engagements in the UK and abroad, counted by amateur royal watcher Tim O'Donovan, was beaten by seven older family members including the Queen, aged 92

But the Duke of Cambridge was also busy being a dad.  And his wife Kate only returned to royal duties in early October, after maternity leave for her third child Prince Louis, born on April 23

Prince Harry attended even fewer events than Wills with a total of 193, including 85 overseas, while his wife the Duchess of Sussex carried out 96, 51 of which were abroad

But they were busy getting married and starting a family.  Princess Anne, 68, was the busiest royal for the second year running

Buckingham Palace made no comment on the workload. Wage theft epidemic: Staff miss public holiday payday despite surcharge - Duration: 6:22.

Cafes and restaurants underpaying staff while hitting customers with a public holiday surcharge is "not a rare thing, it's a relatively common thing," a hospitality veteran says

From being chef to bartending and managing, 30-year-old Melburnian Harry Connor has worked for an estimated 100 employers over a 15-year career in the hospitality industry

It has become common practice for cafes and restaurants to levy a surcharge on weekends and public holidays, a fee that most commonly ranges from 10 to 20 per cent, to help balance out penalty rates

However, businesses must adhere to guidelines set by the consumer watchdog. "Restaurants, cafes and bistros that charge a surcharge on certain days do not need to provide a separate menu or price list or have a separate price column with the surcharge factored in," the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission ruled

"However, the menu must include the words 'a surcharge of [percentage] applies on [the specified day or days]' and these words must be displayed at least as prominently as the most prominent price on the menu

" Whether or not that surcharge is going towards fairly compensating staff, however, is rarely as clear

Underpayment of workers – or wage theft – is "an epidemic" in the hospitality industry according to Ben Redford, assistant branch secretary at United Voice Victoria

"Employers are getting rich by gaming the system. They know the chances of getting caught are remote and the worst they have to fear is being forced to pay back stolen wages," Mr Redford said

"At least a fifth of young workers have reported that their hard-earned wages have been stolen from them in scams

They are paid for fewer hours than they work, are illegally denied correct pay, have their superannuation stolen or their accrued leave withheld

" Under the hospitality industry award full and part-time employees are entitled to $43

81 an hour on public holidays, while casual hospitality employees are owed $48.68 an hour

"We were being paid a flat rate below the award rate on the two public holidays. I was getting paid around $23 to $24, and other people were getting paid $17 or $18," Mr Connor said

"[The owners] were charging a 10 per cent surcharge, and I thought it was outrageous, because who was pocketing that money?" Hospitality workers who give up their public holidays to serve others deserve to be fairly compensated, Mr Connor said

"For people to sacrifice these days for the community so that others can go out and party and drink and eat really nice food, society should hold that in higher esteem," he said

"It's a bit of a shame that hospitality workers lose those days and, in eight out of 10 cases, don't get rewarded

" Mr Connor now volunteers much of his spare time to campaigning against wage theft in the hospitality industry for a new online, member-run union for hospitality workers, Hospo Voice

For Mr Connor, simply finding an employer in the industry willing to pay award rates was a battle

"After getting sacked by two different employers for querying bad conditions I've finally found one that treats me well and pays me properly," he said

Now an assistant manager at Squires Loft Cheltenham, Mr Connor understands first-hand that managers and employers need staff that are available to work unfriendly hours, but says "it's got to be a two-way street"

His current workplace is a "good testament to the industry", and proves that businesses can treat their employees fairly while being successful

"We've employed over a thousand people in the last 10 years. It's all above board and we're thriving," he said

"If we can do it and pay everyone properly, anyone can do it." If a cafe or restaurant can't afford to pay staff properly on public holidays the "smartest thing" for the business to do is to close on those days and give staff some much-needed time off, Mr Connor said

Public Domain Day 2019 - Duration: 4:02.

[MUSIC PLAYING] >>Hi, I'm Laura Quilter.

I am the Copyright and Information Policy Librarian here at the

University of Massachusetts Amherst Libraries.

We are excited for January 1, 2019 because it is Public Domain Day.

It's the day in which copyrighted works i- from a particular year

enter the public domain.

2019 is a particularly exciting Public Domain Day; in fact,

we could call it Public Domain Year because it's the first

time in 20 years that a large volume of works published

in the United States will be entering the public domain.

In fact, everything published in the United States in 1923

will be entering the public domain, um, on January 1, 2019.

In 1998, the Copyright Term Extension Act was passed, and

that extended copyright by 20 years, so works were

copyrighted now from 50 years after the life of the

author to 70 years after the life of the author,

or, in the case of corporate works and many other kinds

of works, from 75 years to 95 years. So, everything

that was published in 1923 has been on lockdown for 20

years; it hasn't entered the public domain when we would

have expected it to have entered the public domain

in 1999, for instance, and so all of those years'

worth of works have remained frozen.

When works enter the public domain, they can be fully

and freely used by anybody; there are no more copyright

restrictions on them. So the public domain is effectively

the- the repository, if you will, sort of the intellectual

repository of everything that humanity has created that is

not being currently locked up under a legal regime that

restricts sharing and copying. So when a work enters the

public domain, when it comes out into the public domain,

it can be reused; it can be distributed; it can be

modified; people can build on it to make new works.

So, for instance, famous works like the statue of Alexander

Hamilton that is in front of the U.S. Treasury will enter

the public domain. It was unveiled in, um, in 1923,

dedicated to the public in 1923, and so it will be

entering the public domain in 2019, be available for

people to scan and to reproduce, um, freely, images

of, you know, our- our latest celebrity founding father.

When works are under copyright but no longer in print or

no longer commercially available, they really fall out of access

to the world, and so in a sense, they- they- they-

they're dead to the world, right? But when they enter the

public domain, they're born again to the world; people can

reuse- can find them and re- and use them, and- and bring

them back into the cultural mainstream at that point, and

so it's really an opportunity for us to celebrate

American culture and American creativity. Um, the first

part of the 20th century was, you know, an amazingly

[SILENT FILM MUSIC PLAYING] um, productive and creative time

in the American world, when jazz was being established,

when film, when recorded music was in its heyday, when there was

creativity from- from all sectors of society, and- and all of the

works that were created in 1923 have been locked up for

20 additional years, and so now, we're going to be able

to celebrate that they're coming back to life.

Kanye West demands 'public apology' from Drake for following Kim Kardashian on Instagram - Duration: 7:58.

Kanye West is at it again.  Shortly after going on an uplifting social media spree about how he feels "stronger than ever" and surrounded by "so much good energy" going into the new year, the Ye rapper, 41, once again spoke out against Drake, in a series of tweets that he then quickly deleted

Seemingly out of the blue, West returned to the subject of their ongoing feud

"I've never mentioned or touched on anything related to family when it came to Drake," he wrote in a since-deleted Tweet, including a devil emoji after the Canadian rapper's name

"He followed my wife on Instagram he mentioned Pusha's fiance [sic] in a song."  "Who's [sic] bright idea was it to tell Drake to follow my wife on Instagram?" he continued, adding "this person is not Drskes [sic] friend

"  Over the weekend, West also tweeted and deleted several heated messages about Drake, criticizing him for following his wife on Instagram in September, as tensions between the two rappers were at an all-time high

"He dodged me for months when I extended olive branches to talk and then called to threaten me," West continued in another deleted message on Monday, echoing a claim he made earlier this month, when he tweeted over 125 times about the "In My Feelings" rapper, 32

However, despite all of his critical words about Drake, West maintained that he didn't "have beef" with anyone

"I don't have beef with no one. Love everyone but don't follow my f—ing wife on Instagram," he added in another deleted Tweet

Kanye West/Instagram  West went on to implore Drake in a since-deleted Tweet to "keep my family out of all of this wrestling foolishness

"  "I don't ignore people and I also don't let people just f— with me," he shared, adding, "it's lame when I tweet but this man been dodging me and I got something to say

"  In one of the few tweets that has not been deleted, West wrote that while fans might prefer to see these kinds of feuds play out on "diss tracks…Ima break all codes

"  West went on to demand a "public apology" from Drake for following his wife on Instagram in September

Although Drake no longer follows Kardashian West on Instagram, but he does follow her mom, Kris Jenner, plus the popular fan account @kanyedoingthings

Kanye West/Instagram  Seemingly explaining why their feud has mostly played out on social media recently, West tweeted, "when you care about your family you don't let no man push you to do nothing that could risk your freedom

"  "Tweeting is legal and also therapeutic," he continued in more messages that did not get deleted

"If something's on my mind and spirit I let it out." Kanye West/Instagram  As he wrapped up his latest Twitter rant, West went on to share in a since-deleted message that despite all of his grievances towards Drake, he still has love for him

"I love everyone even Drake. That's my whole thing," he wrote.  In a Tweet that has not been deleted, he added, "Love everyone

"  This is not the first time that West has wished Drake well at the conclusion of a heated social media spree

Over the weekend, after sharing his grievances about Drake's decision to follow his wife on social media months earlier, West seemed to be speaking for both himself and his wife when he wrote in a since-deleted message, "We truly wish this man the best and pray that he will find the same happiness that we have

"  In a series of tweets that have not been deleted, West simply wrote, "Love everyone," and "All positive vibes

"  Although West and Drake's beef is nothing new, the latest drama began earlier this month, when West took aim at Drake, tweeting over 125 times and claiming that the "In My Feelings" rapper threatened his family, targeted people suffering from mental illness and contacted his mother-in-law Jenner behind his back

Travis Scott also went on to get caught up in the feud because of a line on his song "Sicko Mode," which the Canadian rapper is featured on

On the track, both Drake and Scott rap about how they prefer "checks over stripes," which refers to Nike, a brand they both have deals with, and Adidas, which makes West's Yeezy sneakers

However, West went on to seemingly squash his beef with both Drake and Scott, tweeting on Dec

15 that despite the drama, "Drake and Trav both love Ye more than anyone and I love those guys back

We love everyone."  West went on to share that "it's all love" between him and Scott, a claim which his sister-in-law Kylie Jenner, who is dating the 26-year-old rapper, later confirmed

"Everyone is good, moved on, living life," she went on to explain on Twitter. "It's only positive energy

"  Although Kardashian West, 39, publicly supported her husband earlier this month, calling West a "genius" and warning Drake to "never threaten my husband or our family," a source previously told PEOPLE that she's ready to put the controversy behind them now

"Kim doesn't plan on making another comment about the drama and she asked Kanye to do the same," said the insider, adding that "Kim just wants him off Twitter

Kanye slams Drake for following wife Kim Kardashian and 'demands public apology' - Duration: 6:22.

It doesn't look like Kanye West and Drake will be building bridges any time soon, after the rappers clashed on social media once again

The end of the year seemed to be going in an uplifting direction as Kanye used one of his lengthy Twitter sprees, in which he announced that he was "stronger than ever" before the 41-year-old got sidelined by his nemesis Drake

What sparked this deviation was the Canadian rapper following Kanye's wife, Kim Kardashian, on Instagram

In another deleted message from Christmas Eve, Kanye wrote that, "He dodged me for months when I extended olive branches to talk and then called to threaten me

That's my whole thing."  He then rounded it off with the fact that he, "loves everyone," and peace descended upon the Kardashian West household once again, just in time for 2019 to start on a better foot forward
