Christopher Nkunku is the latest name to emerge as a potential transfer target for Arsenal this month

The 21-year-old has made 13 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue Un this season, but only five of them have been starts, with the midfielder often restricted to games off the substitutes' bench

And with Unai Emery looking at potential loan deals this summer, a move for Nkunku has been mooted

Here's what we know about the transfer links so far. Why have Arsenal moved for Nkunku?  It looked like the Gunners would add Denis Suarez to their ranks this month, with the midfielder moving from Barcelona on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season

However, talks have broken down, with Barca wanting a obligation to buy.  That has led to Arsenal turning their attentions elsewhere, and with Nkunku available, Unai Emery has made his move

Wasn't this originally planned as a summer move?  Arsenal were interested in a summer move for Nkunku, but that has been fast-tracked to this month

Emery is keen to bolster his squad for the second half of the season and has worked with Nkunku before when he was the PSG boss

football.london has learnt that Arsenal's interest in the midfielder dates back to before Unai Emery arriving in north London, with Arsene Wenger having kept close tabs on his progress through the PSG youth ranks

But Emery's presence at the club has helped progress this month's talks, considering the Spaniard gave the youngster 36 first-team appearances during his time in charge at the Parc des Princes

When will the deal happen?  PSG are happy to let the youngster move to the Emirates on loan - providing they have cover

The French champions are close to completing a deal for Zenit Saint Petersburg star Leandro Paredes and are also looking at Bayern Munich's Renato Sanches and Allan at Napoli

If they get one of those over the line, Nkunku will be allowed to leave. How much will he cost?  Emery has admitted that there is no money to spend on players this month, with loans the only deals available to him

There will be no fee at this time, but PSG will be keen to add an option to buy into the deal to take the 21-year-old to London on loan

That option to buy will be around £18million - around about the same price they would have been expected to pay for Suarez

What does it mean for Denis Suarez?  If Arsenal take Nkunku on loan and have the option to buy, the Suarez deal may be dead

The Spaniard is out of contract at the Camp Nou this summer and had his heart set on a move to the Emirates, but now that is off he could find himself in limbo come the end of the season

How Powerful Is Iran's Supreme Leader? | NowThis World - Duration: 5:38.

It's no secret that the Islamic Republic of Iran has a complicated and...

let's call it 'volatile,' relationship with the U. S.

But this isn't anything new.

After escalating tensions with Iran in May 2018

by withdrawing from the Iran Nuclear deal,

President Trump did express a willingness

to meet with Iranian president Hassan Rouhani.

[TRUMP]: I believe in meeting. I would certainly meet with Iran, if they wanted to meet.

An offer Rouhani seemed to be open to, saying quote:

But Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,

was not interested at all:

And in Iran,

has the final word.

Which got us thinking,

just how much power does the supreme leader of Iran actually have?

The Islamic Republic of Iran is a key player in the Middle East.

And whether it's the war in Syria and Yemen,

or its nuclear deal with western powers.

The Persian country always seems to be right in the center of controversy.

And while the country has elected political offices

like a presidency and legislative body --

a lot of power belongs to one man, the country's Supreme Leader.

And his powers are far reaching.

When it comes to politics,

the Supreme Leader has direct or indirect power

over the executive and legislative bodies of government

through un-elected councils that he controls.

Essentially, he is the most influential political authority

and serves as the head of state.

So, while the country does have a president,

that position does not wield as much influence as say

an American president, for example.

And the same goes for Iran's legislative body.

[TALEBLU] For every elected position in the government

whether it's the position of presidents or members of parliament,

the body they call the Majilis,

there are unelected or supervisory positions that kind of

actually have the final say when it comes to matters of law

and key matters of the state.

[HOST] For example, the Guardian Council,

which is an independent, unelected body,

has the power to veto legislation parliament passes,

if it deems the laws unconstitutional or against their interpretation of Islamic law.

The guardian council consists of six theologians appointed by the Supreme Leader,

and six jurists who are appointed by the judiciary and approved by parliament.

It can also bar candidates from running for political office.

The Supreme Leader also wields the most influence over the country's military.

He not only serves as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces,

but also as the head the country's intelligence services.

Meaning, he alone has the authority to declare war, or end it.

He also controls the country's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,

which is tasked with preserving and defending

the principles of Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution.

[TALEBLU] Chiefs of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps

can report directly to the Supreme Leader.

The Supreme Leader can directly bypass the Minister of Defense,

directly bypass the president...

And in fact task heads of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps with missions.

[HOST]: The IRGC is divided into two parts --

a domestic wing,

and a foreign wing, called the Quds Forces.

[TALEBLU] The IRGC Quds force takes both

revolutionary ideology and hard power and projects abroad….

The IRGC is really one of the chief sources of mischief

in the region and is the one that is really the connective

glue between Iran and terrorist groups.

[HOST] The U.S. State Dept. classifies Iran a state sponsor of terrorism,

in part due to the IRGC's actions.

When it comes to the country's economy,

the Supreme Leader's influence is more indirect than direct, according to Taleblu.

Meaning, his speeches or statements are interpreted

by legislators and the president -- who implement policies.

But of course, the Guardian Council is always there

to strike down policies that might veer too far from the Supreme Leader's vision.

But Iran wasn't always run like this.

Iran was ruled by monarchs for thousands of years, known as Shahs.

The most recent monarch was Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi,

who seized power in 1921 after a coup.

The Pahlavi dynasty was a largely secular,

pro-western, and backed by the United States.

The rulers were also extremely authoritarian

and became increasingly unpopular among some Iranians.

So in 1979, Islamist, leftists, students, and guerrilla groups

came together to protest the Shah's rule over Iran.

That dissatisfaction culminated in a revolution that ousted the monarchy.

One person who was instrumental in the revolution was

Ruhollah Khomeini, a Shia religious leader who spent

15 years in exile for his opposition to the Shahs.

[TALEBLU] You saw millions of Iranians begin to look to Khomeini

as kind of this umbrella like figure who would lead the revolutionary

charge against the monarchy against the Pahlavi monarchy.

[HOST] And after the monarchy fell in 1979,

Khomeini returned to Iran.

Then in December of that year,

The Islamic Republic of Iran was born and Khomeini

was the first person to become the country's Supreme Leader.

Khomeini died 10 years after leading the revolution.

And Ali Khamenei, took his place.

He still serves in the role today.

And the title supreme leader continues to be

the most powerful position in Iran 40 year after the revolution.

showing how times have changed from 1958 to 2014 the building in 1958 is almost

completely non-existent perhaps the war had something to do with it but in 2014

the building standing behind the statue adds so much to the photo kind of giving

it more of a European feel number 20 Hoff brujas munch in Germany

okay this photo is a little crazy if you look

at the two buildings they remain almost untouched it's hard to believe that they

manage to look the exact same way from 1910 through 2017 this photo is of Hoff

brew house munch in Germany sure if you pay attention to detail some things have

changed but for the most part it looks identical unbelievable right

number 19 Cuates Nations Paris France opposite to the last photo Kosta Nations

number 16 Cheney glacier in the United States the two photos depict 1911 and

2005 if you notice the 1911 photo has significantly more snow compared to the

bottom one some people believe it might be due to global warming but I'm

thinking it's just two different seasons who knows regardless this photo

definitely tells its own story about history and how things have changed

number 15 Austin abrooke Germany this looks like it's from an old Italian

mobster film no one on site fog everywhere and just an overall

mysterious vibe fast-forward to 2015 and this area looks more popping more people

into more of a shopping area than a place to live looks nice either way

though it's crazy how things have changed over the course of history

number fourteen Mont Saint Mitchell France

okay so is this place real it looks like a scene from a fairy tale or the

original Disneyland absolute goosebumps these two pictures are from 1908 and

2016 not a whole lot has changed which is so amazing because it doesn't need

any change whatsoever number 13 rice stag fire in case you didn't know

the Rye stag fire in Germany happened in 1933 just one month after Adolf Hitler

became Chancellor of Germany this photo shows the building from 1945 to 2012 it

looked like it was on its way to being rebuilt in 1945 and now it looks like a

stunning building luckily they fixed it right up such a historic photo number 12

hammerfest Norway this is a stunning photo of hammerfest Norway from 1889 to

2004 both photos look beautiful and peaceful the only difference is that

but actually it has the building was actually burned down during the war and

it was rebuilt after it looks almost identical to the original and the black

bricks are remains of the old building nice

number ten the Eiffel Tower I'm sure everyone knows this building it's the

Tour Eiffel in Paris France the two photos are from 1910 and 2016 a lot of

people prefer the 1910 photos some say it looks more romantic and others say

the 2016 one looks way busier regardless the city has become a lot more popular

in 2016 in 1910 the city looks very peaceful and well romantic number 9

Marcin Street Poznan Poland these two photos show the years 1945 and 2017 look

at the mess that the war left in the particular area and now it looks like

on number 7 osnabrück central railway station clearly people have become a

little more environmentally friendly and health-conscious in germany check out

this photo at osnabrück central railway station from 1965 and 2015 there were no

bikes on site in the 60s and now mostly all bikes that's pretty impressive

Germany pretty impressive luckily the buildings still look the

same still looks pretty incredible number six zippers go Street Poznan

Poland though the years aren't so incredibly far apart it's crazy to see

the changes that this place has gone through not only does it look

significantly greener now there is an entirely new building that was built and

the buildings that stayed there look a lot better very very nice

number five Paris France this is Paris France in 1900 in 2017 I

don't know about you but the photo from the 1900s looks a lot better I'm sure

it's the fact that is not in color and there's something sort of classy and

mysterious to it but this isn't to say that the photo today looks bad the place

still looks gorgeous and I would love to visit number four Keagan Norway keys and

railway bridge in Kishin Norway doesn't seem like it's changed a whole lot from

1927 to 2008 even the trains look more or less the same the only thing that's

really changed is the area where people can walk it's nice to see that not much

has been changed in this very pretty area number three Dresden Germany is

this mr. Darcy's house from Pride and Prejudice probably not but it definitely

looks like it could be this is the palace in Groban garden in Dresden

Germany not a whole lot has changed and nothing really needs to be changed the

area is beautiful and surely looks like what most of Jane

Austen's stories were about

number two Lodz Poland all right it's time to play spot the difference

check out the st. Matthews evangelical church in Lodz Poland the first photos

from 1937 and the other photo is from 2017 there are only a few minor

unnoticeable changes but overall inside the building it looks completely

identical it really is a special feeling to walk into a building with so much

history behind it now that you've seen some unbelievable before-and-after

photos that show how much the world has changed over time here's a picture from

Moulin Rouge you may be surprised to see that it hasn't changed very much

number one Moulin Rouge in Paris France this is the Moulin Rouge in Paris France

from the 1900s to 2016 the only significant changes in the photos are

the people in the cars obviously in the 1930s the cars look super vintage and

the people are dressed for the time but other than that everything looks more or

less the same

Transfer news: Alan Shearer assesses how many players Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal need - Duration: 2:16.

Chelsea have already completed the marquee signing of Gonzalo Higauin this month but the other teams chasing the top four and the Premier League title are yet to make their move.

Arsenal are looking at deals for the likes of Barcelona's Denis Saurez, PSG's Christopher Nkunku and most recently Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

Funds are tight at the Emirates, so the club are looking at loan deals only.

Recent injuries to Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin and Laurent Koscielny could also see them bring in a defensive recruit this month.

And Premier League legend Shearer reckons they need at least one new recruit if they are to mount a top four challenge.

"There is just a week left in the January transfer window and many clubs will be desperately trying to do some business before it shuts," he told Coral.

"Arsenal need one or two players so it would be no surprise to see them strengthen their squad."

Liverpool and Manchester City are both flying high at the top of the table and neither club look likely to sign any players this month having splashed the cash in the summer.

Meanwhile, United are looking into the prospect of any players becoming available across Europe and have also been linked with Perisic.

But Shearer feels the fact Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is their interim boss and they aren't sure who to appoint in the summer could impact how many signings they make before Thursday's 11pm deadline.

"It would take someone very special to become available for Manchester City or Liverpool to sign anyone, as they have to be happy with the way the season has gone so far with what they already have at their disposal," the Newcastle legend said.

"Manchester United could do with a defender or two.

"But it is a difficult situation for them at the moment as they do not know who their manager is going to be next season. So I would be surprised if they invested a lot of money either.

"Often the signings that are made in the January transfer window are out of desperation and panic which can lead to clubs paying over the top.

"Managers will look at where they have come up short over the last few months and try to fix the situation."

Analysis shows just how much Marcus Rashford has improved under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - Duration: 2:23.

Marcus Rashford's prolific form under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continued with a goal in Manchester United's win over Brighton on Saturday

Interim manager Solskjaer said Rashford is "playing the best football in his career" and "can be absolutely top class" after watching him score his fifth goal in six league games

Here, we look at Rashford's improvement using his scoring record and additional data from analytics company StatsBomb

Rashford quickly set the tone for Solskjaer's reign with a third-minute opener against Cardiff in the first game after the change of manager

He was kept at bay by Huddersfield next time out, but has scored in every game since, giving him five goals under Solskjaer compared to three this season with Mourinho in charge

Rashford's assist for Paul Pogba's first goal in the 4-1 win over Bournemouth was his only one since Solskjaer took charge, compared to five this season under Mourinho

Looking at advanced data from StatsBomb, Rashford's increased effectiveness under Solskjaer becomes clear

The 21-year-old has taken more shots, 26, in 502 minutes of football under his new manager than his 19 in 846 minutes under Mourinho

That represents a shot every 19.3 minutes under Solskjaer compared to one every 45 minutes under Mourinho, and the quality of his chances has also improved in line with his switch to a more central position

Using expected goals (xG), a method which seeks to calculate the chances of scoring from a given shot based on the striker's position on the field, the type of attempt and the defenders in his way, we can measure the returns on Rashford's opportunities

His two shots per match under Mourinho were worth an average of 0.20xG per 90 minutes, equivalent to a goal every five games or roughly two in the 846 minutes he played prior to Mourinho's exit

He over-performed that expectation by scoring three times and has continued to do so, with his 4

7 shots per game under Solskjaer worth an average of 0.54xG per 90, or three in the 502 minutes he has played – Rashford, of course, has five
