News on Youtube Jan 4 2019

So this is version 0.5.1prealpha

of Fech The Ferret

Which, as you like already guess from the title

is the new public game of the game

To download it check the link the description

So... I'm a tad late

this demo was initially supposed to be a

fixed version of the one I made for HedgeCamp

back in November

But, well, mostly due to school reasons

I had to delay it quite a bit

So what's new since 0.5?

which, by the way,

I never really got the time to probably show here on YouTube

except for that video about HedgeCamp's stream

LakeFeperd: just by walking to the wall like that?

[LakeFeperd laughs] RetroJet: Dear Mr...

BNH: AAAAAAAAA

In this latest pre-alpha I solved most of those

dumb bugs and oversights that nearly made

0.5 unplayable for some

Like the auto camera being turned off by default

(Something that can't be done anymore, by the way)

or the transition from level dream00 to dream01 being extremely unreliable

In 0.5.1 I've also added some new stuff

like a bigger and greatly improved level design for dream00

a new less awkward looking walk on all fours animation

don't worry I'll eventually redo most of animation from scratch

and a brand new track for dream00

it's definitely different from most of my tracks,

but I'm quite satisfied with what I pulled off so far

Before closing this summary of this new version

I unfortunately have to say that's not bug free

- not by a long shot -

Sum the fact that I wanted to release it before the end of 2018

to some unreasonable Unity bugs,

like, level loading being not as stable as it should be

or post-processing transitions not working outside of Unity's editor

which resulted in a clearly worse looking second level

at the right you can see as it looks like

while I'm working on it

and how it looks like in the demo.

So you get the point the result is an overall pretty rough demo

I'll hopefully try to address these issues

in the next demo

which is scheduled for the beginning of February.

I think that's all for this update

if you made this far well, first of all, thank you!

And second of all

as much as I'd love to post more frequently

videos about my game here on youtube

it takes time.

So, if you want to be updated more often about the development

consider checking my Twitter profile

I'm definitely more active there

(also, don't worry, I won't clog your timeline with retweets)

Or you could also join Fech The Ferret's discord server!

It's a pretty nice place

Besides the Fech here we mostly talk about games

development

or share some memes every now and then

It's also full of...

wait

can I call a fanart?

Well

Drawings about Fech

made by some lovely members

And with that said

Bye!

Richard Wolff on Public Banks - Duration: 4:10.

In Los Angeles voters had the opportunity to vote for and against the

creation of a public bank. That's right, a bank owned and operated by the

government, in this case the city government of Los Angeles, that would

compete with private banks and offer services that private banks often don't

offer or under different circumstances. The measure was not passed but 43% of

the voters were in favor. The people who pushed it, who want a public bank, didn't

really have enough time. It needs more education. And this is,

however, a very good beginning. I want to also mention that the head of the Los

Angeles City Council, Herb Wesson, supported this effort and that's an

important support to get. What's at stake here is important also for everyone to

understand. The United States already has public banks. The most famous is in North

Dakota which has had a public bank, owned and operated by the state of North

Dakota, for over a hundred years. It has been attacked by private banks who fear

the competition, but both Republican and Democratic governors and legislatures in

North Dakota have beaten back every single effort to get rid of

the public bank. That's how popular it is. It takes the money that is paid in taxes,

and fishing licenses, and motor vehicle fees, and instead of giving it to a

private bank (typically one of the giant banks in the United States) it goes

instead into the state bank. In other words, state money is going to be used by

the state bank which then makes loans available on good conditions to state

businesses and state residents. It's a public service. And that's what I'd like

to mention about this important issue. A public bank holds the private banks to a

standard. The private banks now have to do as

well as that public bank, or nearly so, otherwise their condition of existence

is removed. Why have private banks if they cannot or

will not do for the public what the public bank does? It's a good way to hold

them to account. It's a good way to measure how well they're doing, number

one. Number two, public banks don't have to make a profit. If they do, whatever

their profit is goes back into the state governments income because it's part of

the state, and that means the state government doesn't have to raise taxes

as much as it otherwise would. That's made the Bank of North Dakota quite

popular. And if it doesn't make profits it's because it can offer loans on the

basis of lower costs then a private bank would charge, which is good for all the

borrowers who are the majority, not the lenders, who are the minority. Get the

picture? And finally, a public bank can make loans for what society needs even

if it isn't so profitable. A private bank, for example, will fund luxury housing

because it's very profitable. A public bank might instead support public

housing, low cost housing, rent low housing. You get the picture? Because we

need it in society and therefore the public bank does what we all need rather

than what the private bank does, which is driven by the profit of the investors

and the shareholders etc.. Very important that Los Angeles put it on the ballot.

Very important that 43% of the people supported it first time out. Keep at it.

And this kind of thing will happen not only in Los Angeles but in the other

cities that are copying it, and that are learning from what's going on.

"Body Politic" - Public Art at the Lenexa civic campus - Duration: 2:40.

I'm Joe O'Connell, this is "Body Politic" in the Lenexa Civic Center.

These sculptures are a way of combining

two-dimensional

silhouettes of people with a three-dimensional form.

I like to think of sculpture as

What do you see from a hundred feet away?

What do you see from fifty feet away?

And then what do you see when it's right in front of you?

And a sculpture takes on different meanings

So from a distance, it's like two spheres.

Almost like two balls rolled out of the Rec Center

So when you get closer, it's a series of human silhouettes.

In art history,

rows of human silhouettes go back

you know, to cave painting times when we were

just drawing like stick figures if you would and handprint figures

So I spent a lot of time looking at photographs.

I found some really interesting graffiti that I took inspiration from

Just wherever I saw a silhouette

that expressed something of interest

I was also intrigued by forms that express the full range of emotions

like a little bit more dejected but still a little spring in your step

and those complex emotions

Slouching, groups of people together

and then I put them in interesting combinations with each other

So some of the forms repeat

but I put them among different neighbors.

Stop by at night because one of the other aspects of this sculpture

and some of the other sculptures I've done

is that we use these point-source lights

that shine through the silhouettes

and then onto you so as you walk by these figures like imprint themselves on you

You can't be just a passive observer or you can if you step back

But if you get close the sculpture will come

Will reach out and shine these figures very distinctly onto you

and that's kind of an interesting experience as you walk around them.
