Why do genres exist?

There are many reasons, but the reasoning I like is the setting of expectations.

If you are going into an action anime, you know what to expect.

If you are going into a comedy, drama, or slice of life anime, you also know roughly

what it is you are going to be getting.

But when you have a series that goes against the grain of its given genre, it can go one

of three ways.

It can be a proper melding of several genres that fit well together to make a unified whole.

That's why sometimes you have action/adventure titles or horror/supernatural titles.

Or you can have absolute abominations of shows that honestly have no idea what they want

to be.

Is this a comedy?

Or a murder mystery?

WHO KNOWS?

The creators sure don't!

Lastly, you can have a show that crosses that uncanny valley of genre bending to create

a unique blend of many genres that don't normally mix, combining them into a narrative

stew that's a feast for your attention and subverts your expectations.

And that, I believe, is the best way to introduce the series we are talking about today.

Ladies, gentlemen, and others, my name is Arkada and today on Glass Reflection we are

taking a look at the 2018 anime from Geno Studio: the first season of Golden Kamuy.

Let's jam.

Golden Kamuy is an anime series produced by Geno Studio.

It was directed by Hitoshi Nanba and based off the original work by Mangaka Satoru Noda.

It takes place in a slightly edited version of Japan's own history, just after the Russo-Japanese

war in 1905.

It follows a veteran of that war, Saichi Sugimoto, nicknamed Immortal Sugimoto for being one

tough bad ass who charges into impossible situations and somehow lives through all of them.

But now, what with the war being over, he's on his own and a bit desperate for money.

That is, of course, until he hears about a story…a story about of a massive amount

of gold taken by a man from the indigenous Ainu population.

This man apparently hid the gold somewhere in the Hokkaido region before being arrested and, while

in jail, tattooed the map to the treasure on the skin of his fellow death row inmates.

Sugimoto would normally brush this off as just another quack story, except the old man who

told it to him was one of those inmates.

Who mentioned it after drinking a little too much, and then in his stupidity tried to kill

Sugimoto with his own gun.

Bad move.

So now Sugimoto thinks that crazy gold story might actually be something, and the majority

of this first series is him and friends tracking down the tattooed criminals, with hopes of

finding the gold.

Friends is a bit of a generous description for most of the individuals with whom Sugimoto

ends up travelling, but it best applies to one other very important character.

Shortly after hearing the story and finding his first bit of the gold's map, Sugimoto

is attacked by a bear!

Hi! So uh...

This bear? This bear right here? Yeah we are going to come back to him.

Alright?

Because he's worth talking about, but I didn't want to like input that here.

So we're gonna come back to it ok? We are going to come back to this bear, and everything will be ok.

Cool!

So I just wanted to put that out there. Sorry to slow you down, bye!

So he's attacked by a bear and is saved by the young Asirpa, an Ainu girl from the

area who has a wolf friend and a father who was one of the Ainu that originally collected

the gold in the first place before he was apparently murdered by a crazy psychopath.

Asirpa is skillful with both tracking and hunting, which makes her an ideal companion

to Sugimoto, as neither of them can complete the tracking and capturing of all the tattooed

inmates on their own.

Plus, narratively she's too young to be shoehorned into an unnecessary romantic subplot

with Sugimoto, for which I am forever grateful.

This show has enough on its plate as it is.

This brings me back to my opening paragraph about the show and how it fits into multiple genres.

Because so far, you can easily see how this show's premise easily falls under the category

of an action adventure series, right?

Tons of adventure in the quest to find the lost gold and action?

And there's plenty of action to be seen here anytime Sugimoto and Asirpa get into

a scrap.

It's kill or be killed, after all.

But that's not all the show has going for it.

For one, the series contains a surprising amount of lightheartedness.

It uses plenty of comedic gags to lighten the mood, and is not beyond going completely

off model for the characters faces, if it helps add some levity to any given scene.

Also, the pair eventually runs into a character by the name of Shiraishi, who ends up being

a terrific foil and adds to the perfect chemistry of the group to make the series even more

entertaining.

But the series is also really sly and sneaky.

Why?

Because under its façade of action adventure story, once you pull off the mask, the show

reveals itself to be…..

A GOURMET SERIES!

Most, if not all, of the episodes of Golden Kamuy specifically dedicate several minutes

to food.

From what to do with hunted game in the wild, Ainu cuisine, or hell just drinking Sapporo

in Sapporo at a bar that's totally not product placement.

I say that with sarcasm, but really it's so well done and it fits the timeline, so

who really knows?

Oh!

So you thought this was a series about a gold hunt?

Well, WRONG MISTER!

Let's spend 5 minutes talking about miso and how it's not poop.

Seriously though, miso is freaking godlike.

I have it at any restaurant that makes it and if anyone tells me they don't like miso,

then I'd have to seriously consider our possibility at being friends.

But yeah, there are so many scenes in this series dedicated wholly to the food our characters

ingest and they are all done in a style that you'd see out of a proper gourmet series

It's just wild!

But oddly enough, I never found it to be out of place.

The main drive of the narrative is our character's quest for the gold, yeah, but I really did

appreciate the times where the show felt it was prudent to spend time on those downtime

moments in the evening where our characters bond over good food.

Also, it's important to mention that – to my knowledge – the show doesn't skimp

on the historical.

Now, I will admit I know very little about the history behind Japan's indigenous tribes.

I am not a scholar of such.

But I did take note of how the series treats Asirpa's people and the respect it seemed

to show towards their culture.

One of the reasons I feel like I never really heard much about the Ainu is that, as quote

unquote "modern" society likes to do, it tries to forget that these people existed.

It happened in the west, it happened in the east.

Hell, I can think of only two anime that really bring up Japan's indigenous culture, the

first being Shaman King back in 2001 and the second being Samurai Champloo.

It's just really great to see a series that seems to take great care in portraying a marginalized

ethnicity within Japan's own history.

Of course, in fairness, I'm only saying that they did a good job because through my

admittedly brief research on the subject, the portrayal of the Ainu had been well-received.

But let's talk about that animation, specifically THAT BEAR THO.

Mostly because, look at it!

Look at this CG monstrosity of a bear!

Now, I'm not entirely sure if this was due to some kind of creative decision or cost

cutting measures, but the animals in this series are all done up with CGI and….it

doesn't blend well.

The models themselves are not horrible.

What's horrible to me is how they interact with the scene.

This is done in more subtle ways elsewhere like a campfire ithat's what

looks like actual fire CG'ed into place next to the animated characters.

But a blending between different elements can work, can be seamless or at least mostly

seamless to the audience enough so that it doesn't ruin the immersion, however it just

didn't happen here.

Though to be fair, there are times when the animals are done in 2D as well, but I can't

say it's as realistic as they might want the 3D moments to be.

The differences though are just too much and it makes me want to pause the

video every time I see it.

Kind of like what I did earlier on so...

Yeah let's move on before I feel obligated to play that Clang sound effect from Berserk

to remind people that its CG is worse.

As far as the audio is concerned, I need to give massive props to the dub team at Funimation,

specifically Ian Sinclair, Monica Rial, and Ben Phillips who voiced Sugimoto, Asirpa,

and Shiraishi respectively.

It's rare that I like a simuldub so much that I actively hold off on watching the show

until it's finished being dubbed so that I could watch it first that way.

The chemistry between all the voice actors uniquely matched that of the characters and

it make for some very easy watching.

Like, I can appreciate a good sub and I'm not one who finds reading subtitles to be

at all cumbersome, but god can I appreciate a good dub.

The other thing audio-wise worth mentioning is the soundtrack.

Or rather, since the OST hasn't been released and may not be and I didn't have much to

say on it anyways, let's just dedicate this big shout-out to the fact that MAN WITH A

MISSION is an awesome group.

I love their music and "Winding Road" is an amazing song that got turned into a

stellar opening for the show, so much so that I'm proudly adding it to the "I watched

it every freaking time" club for anime openings.

It's just so good.

And now for the "but", specifically the "I like this show a lot, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut…"

I'm in a weird predicament, because while I do generally love and adore much of the

show, parts of it could be considered "unnecessary" to the plot despite my love for them.

This includes the food bits and the comedy, and since we only have 13 episodes in this

first season, there is the worry that things are progressing a little too slowly.

Now, keeping in mind that season two is about to start at the time of this video, and also

remembering that the original manga is still ongoing, this is not terribly surprising nor

should it be immediately worrying.

That said, when I'm marathoning a series and I get into the habit of just hitting the

next button to continue watching the show, it's incredibly annoying and disheartening

when I have to spend a moment in disbelief that the next episode button isn't working!

I had reached the end of the season, despite that fact not coming across at all in the

show's material itself.

Episode 12 does not feel like an end.

It feels like just another episode.

Which is okay because it was an entertaining episode, but if I didn't know there was

going to be another season after that?

Man, would that have been a sour note to leave off on.

My worry is that it's going to happen again.

Season one only covered about 50-ish chapters from the manga, a manga that currently has

about 171 chapters released at present.

We could have a full 24-episode season and that'll only get us caught up!

Say nothing about actually finishing the story about finding the One Piece!

Which is what ultimately worries me about this adaptation's future.

Just looking at likely outcomes, we are on track to either not have the series adapted

fully – so we'll never get a resolution to the plot…not a good end – or it could

rush the whole thing and then give us an anime-only ending, which isn't good either.

That isn't because of the anime-only ending itself, but more so that it'll more than

likely have to skip over most of the black comedy and development of the characters in

favour of blitzing to the end.

And considering those are some of the best parts, it's almost the LEAST ideal option of them.

It saddens me that this series might become yet another series for which I'll never

get see an ADAPTED resolution.

But perhaps that's just me being entirely too pessimistic.

It could go fine!

It could go fine.

And I want it to go fine.

I really do.

I've been enjoying the hell out of this quirky quasi-adventure series and I both do

and don't want it to end.

An ending would be great because I want to see a happy resolution for these characters,

to see that resolution adapted into anime format.

But a part of me doesn't want it to be over because I enjoy these characters too damn

much: their style, their humour, their determination to see the next day.

One of the first things I noted when I sat down to watch the first few episodes as it

aired is something that I've said about many shows, and that was that Golden Kamuy

does not know what kind of show it wants to be.

I came to that conclusion after seeing its assorted mismatches of different genres and

themes.

But now, having finished the series, I think differently.

It's not that Golden Kamuy doesn't know what kind of show it wants to be.

It's that it doesn't care what kind of show it is, and it's able to be enjoyable

regardless of whatever genre you want to label it with.

I'm not going to say that the series is perfect or a masterpiece, especially when

the narrative is unfinished, but hey any series that sings the praises of miso soup is good

in my books.

As such, I'd like to present Golden Kamuy with the Glass Reflection rating to Buy It.

It's a fantastic series for what it is, and my only real sticking point at present

is how much of the narrative is going to be adapted.

If future seasons leave us hanging, I will not be a happy panda.

But until then, especially with season two about to start up, I'm holding out hope.

The series is available for legal streaming over on Crunchyroll in sub and Funimation

in dub, if you have access to either of those sites.

And, while there's no date set yet for a physical release here in the west, I'd be

very surprised if that's not going to be a thing in the future coming from Funimation.

For alternate anime recommendations, I'd like to start you off with the aforementioned

Samurai Champloo for taking a look at Japan's rich history, though admittedly with a much

less realistic style albeit one that's still fantastic to watch.

Second recommendation goes to the anime film Sword of the Stranger, which is like if Golden

Kamuy was a shit ton more serious than it currently is while still maintaining its entertainment

value.

Both of these anime will be fantastic for you if you watched and enjoyed Kamuy, and

I recommend both.

LEGO Star Wars Porg large buildable model review! 75230 - Duration: 10:56.

hate Porgs?don't watch this video!

this is the official Lego Star Wars the last

Jedi buildable porg people have known that this was coming down the pipeline

for quite a long time since long before I was officially revealed and now it is

at last been released to the public it is not a UCS or ultimate collector's

series set although it is definitely designed for display and in fact it is

designed for maximum realism for a a Lego build almost to the point of being

exactly life-sized properly scaled to how these things would would be in real

life if they were real well they are based off puffins

which are very real and yeah the size of yours is pretty good the most surprising

thing about this to me is how it's built on the inside to get that mouth moving

feature that I showed you at the start this is how it looks after finishing the

first bag of parts it's a technique frame on the inside completely dotted

with pins that have a little stud extension on them all over it and after

this point you just start attaching plate based and brick based assemblies

to that central frame so it's a very hollow build but it does not feel like

it when you're finished with this it has some some substance to it it feels like

you're picking up something very solid it doesn't shake around all the pieces

that you've attached are the sub assemblies that you've attached to that

central skeletal core and there are so many pieces that are layered upon it

that definitely has a lot of weight I would not know that this is very Hollow

if I hadn't built it myself or at least looked at the instructions tons of

detailing around the back that I did not expect at all and around the side of the

head now you do see some grey showing through amongst the the orange feather

details there but that's not necessarily a bad thing you know there is supposed

to be some blending that occurs that's not a perfect great

into you you would have different colors of feathers on birds or on pores in this

case and I think they did a pretty good job actually of pulling that off you

know not making it look too artificial you don't get any pieces showing from

the outside that are completely off scheme you know you don't see any like

red Technic pieces or blue pins or anything sticking out there's a little

bit of sand blue that's intentionally used just for the tip feathers right

there and they really built out the tail quite a bit you actually have to have a

little bit of a a stand underneath there with the tile it's that's placed at the

same height as the feet the feet can be moved from side side just a little bit

but they're fairly loose you can kind of move the toes individually just a little

bit if you want to do a little toe tap but that doesn't really accomplish much

and they're supposed to be lined up with the legs anyway overall I'm I'm

satisfied satisfied with the build here and the action I think is better than it

needs to be because not only does it move the mouth as I show there and you

get to that I guess you can see just a little bit of technique just underneath

there if you look very carefully but it's mostly in shadow so again it's not

bugging me but the mechanism is right here from the the tippy tippy tip of the

tail this portion can be pushed down and that activates the mouth but it also

activates the wing see the wings are just able to flap here they're just

flappy and they even have a little bit of detailing beneath them so as these

pop open again you don't see weird colors under there so I'm very much

appreciate that that requires some specific conscious work on the part of

the designers and in the past they've really not done a good job at that looks

like they're doing a much better job of that these days in response to requests

from folks like us you know just the fans who don't want to see that weird

stuff but check out the the mechanism here so you open the mouth and you

the the wings just a little bit but if you if you push down hard then the wings

will look like they flap a little bit more now they actually pop up this is

all just returning through gravity there's no rubber band or anything used

in there no spring I don't know I think it's kind of cool I would prefer if the

wings were able to flap up just a little bit more

you kind of expect them to to move their wings as they as they chirp as they talk

again based on the real birds that are the reason for the poor eggs existing in

the Star Wars universe in the first place and inside the mouth that has some

detail as well they got the little teeth or pseudo teeth I don't know what

they're supposed to be exactly but those are shown there and I only wish that you

could hold this in a a mouth open position at least at least part way I

think that would have been interesting you can probably do a little bit of

customization to change the expression on the face by changing these feathers

up here to make them look a little bit mad or a little bit sad of course the

sad faces is the the best one if you didn't hate porgs but look at that on

the inside red no blue no weird colors no no yellow or anything again

well-chosen parts the build goes together pretty well I guess you can

angle the yeah after everything goes together originally you can angle the

eyes from side to side just a little bit but not so much anymore everything seems

to get clamped together the head is on a on a swivel it's on a hinge but that

itself is kind of locked in place now as well so it's always gonna be looking up

yeah I mean if you like these things and you like Lego I think that Lego has made

a good combination of the two here it was an enjoyable build to put together I

can say that if you're on the fence about it and the value seems to me

personally to be appropriate given given the build given the weight of it all and

given the number of pieces though again this is not a

and ultimate collector's series set they have the ucs style plaque with a little

bit of information about it you know they don't have dimensions and armament

and such like they're usually able to do with things that that get this style of

plaque but you know it's something just kinda helps it to go with the series if

if you like that and it comes with a minifig ish scaled porg and that just

has the same printed piece that's used on the other two releases porgs of this

scale the previous ones coming in regular minifig scaled sets and also be

UCS millennium falcon and this one just has the fully dark grey body with the

black tail and the white chest piece and that's just it for the whole set a lot

fewer people actually dislike porgs then you would think if you use the internet

it's just that folks who dislike stuff tend to be a lot louder especially in

public forums then folks who like things and that's just how it is there's a lot

of misconception about the the genesis of pourings a lot of people especially

dislike them because they think of them like a box has just vehicles to sell

merchandise you know cutesy things to get people to

want to buy them and that's just so not the case in this specific case it's it's

it's a rare case of something being created that's cutesy and very

marketable that wasn't designed for marketing purposes it was designed as is

well documented because there are so many puffins that look very similar to

this just with beaks instead Oh slightly smaller looking highs from a distance

there's just so many of them out there on the the islands where the octo

sequences are or were films that you know they couldn't CGI them out without

spending a ton of money and time and so I came up with this idea of greetings

little aliens that look a lot like them especially from a distance in the wide

shots and such but that's all well documented that's that's its own thing I

personally think that Lego has done a pretty good job of capturing what

these things are I didn't talk about the nose but I think that's one of the

cooler parts of up the bill just clever use of a couple of relatively recent

pieces there the main thing that I don't like about this is that if you see the

Box in person you will think that this is gonna be a big display out of it it's

it's of some size but it's not as big as the Box suggests you know just if you

use that that picture is kind of your reference and also the size the size of

the box on on the whole so if you see this box in person no that is going to

create something that only comes up to the the base of the jaw here but do pick

up that box feel that weight and just imagine that much weight being

concentrated into something this small it's very dense and does not feel hollow

at all that helps to put the price I think into perspective a little bit it

would definitely be an easier pill to swallow the price if it was that tall

but it's not but it's very well detailed I think it's a case of quality over

quantity here and I think the designer again did a good job and the little

motion feature is very nice I just wish that they animate it a little bit easier

to keep that open it's very easy to just add in a couple more pieces too

or even just to stick something in there I think I can even just stick my

minifigure in there right now just create yeah there you go yeah so that'll

hold it open but you know the feature isn't built in but it's easy enough to

do and yeah I think you'll look just fine on display for folks who actually

like porgs but that's that that's it for my looking at this set thank you for

2019 Toyota RAV4 - First Review - Duration: 6:08.

When car makers introduce a new vehicle for the press they'll often embargo

driving impressions until a certain date. This is the 2019 Toyota RAV4, and

according to this handy little card, I'm not supposed to tell you about specs,

driving impressions, MPG or pricing, but here's what we can do. You can check out

the interior and exterior. We can talk about the infotainment system, and you

can watch me drive the thing with a totally blank embargo-respecting

expression. Sounds like fun, right? Let's start outside we're the fifth-generation

RAV4 is lower and wider with a longer wheelbase, while also measuring slightly

shorter overall. Out in the real world it looks handsome, if not outrageous.

Though Toyota has spiced up each trim level with distinct styling touches, this

XLE trim is pretty straightforward, but the Hybrid and Limited trims amp up the

visual interest well, and the Adventure trim looks appropriately adventurous.

Inside it's not particularly daring stylistically, but there are some cool

bits if you look around. This grated surround near the sunglass holder, the

ridges on the inside of the door handle that make you want to keep touching them,

this snow like pattern that appears on these trim pieces and also along the

seats, and rubberized knobs for the climate and audio controls. I wonder how

those are gonna wear, but they feel really good right now. This is the

all-wheel-drive model, and it includes a drive mode selector down here, which is

this grouping of six buttons. I wonder if a rotary knob like every other SUV would

have made a little bit more sense. Love to see how that one works in action.

There's also a torque display in the gauge cluster that shows you where power

is being sent front and back, and I imagine also left and right in versions

that have the torque vectoring all-wheel drive system.

This one doesn't have it that's why I'm not showing it to you. Right now for

infotainment we have Entune 3.0 a 7-inch screen comes standard eight inches is

optional, and it's placed nice and high pretty close to the drivers field of

view. Entune 3.0 includes Amazon Alexa functionality as well as smartphone

integration via Apple CarPlay but not Android Auto.

One thing I really like about how Toyota is doing their infotainment systems, like

here in the RAV4, is that to combine physical buttons along the edges with

super simple displays. This could not be simpler. Oh, my wife just sent me a text.

Get out of here. Don't, stop, stop, stop looking. Interior storage consists of

door nooks, a center console area, a spot for your phone near this USB port, and a

Highlander-inspired slot along the dash for passengers. The front seats are

comfortable and unsurprisingly free from pressure points. Toyota does a bang-up job

with seats. Elsewhere soft materials appear in critical spots like the

armrest instrument panel and other welcome details include extendable sun

visors, parallel cupholders, up to 5 USB ports, soft outboard rear armrest that

could use a little bit more padding, and rear seat vents, which were previously

unavailable on the RAV4.

With the front seats set for my utterly average five-foot ten-inch build, there's

a lot of clearance for my feet down low, knees right here, and headroom. Move to

the middle position, headroom is still great, and there's a good wide spot to

put my feet, and then outboard, soft armrests two-position recline function,

and notice this window here gives a nice open airy feeling. If you've ever sat in

the back of a Toyota C-HR then you know how claustrophobic that feels. This is

the opposite. Outback there's a large cargo area, and what I really like is

that it has a repositionable floor, so in the upper position you can just slide

bags in and out, but you can also slide it to the lower position and things

won't roll out the back, if you go to get let's say all the cans you could

possibly need for a hurricane or zombie apocalypse. Toyota revealed a fair number

of details at the 2018 New York Auto Show, so I should be safe talking about

safety. On that front all RAV4's include eight airbags and

Toyota's safety sense 2.0, which bundles roadsign detection, full-speed dynamic

cruise control, pre-collision warning with pedestrian and daytime cyclist

detection, and lane departure alert with steering assist. As for the powertrain, a

2.5 liter four-cylinder engine of indeterminate output comes standard, as

does front-wheel drive, but there's also a presumably more efficient hybrid

variant and all-wheel drive for those who need enhanced traction. Reserved for

gasoline-powered Limited and Adventure trims is an upgraded torque vectoring

all-wheel-drive system that can send up to 50-percent of engine torque to the

rear wheels, or disconnect the rear driveline for improved efficiency, which

I'm not allowed to tell you about. I also can't tell you how much this 2019 RAV4

will cost when it goes on sale, but I can highlight some of its more intriguing

options like heated and ventilated seats, wireless phone charging, up to five USB

ports, a hands-free power tailgate, and a proper 360-degree camera system, Though

our XLE trim didn't come with it, so I can't show it to you. From a feature

perspective the 2019 RAV4 looks well-positioned versus a competitive set

that includes, among others, the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape,

Chevy Equinox, Mazda CX-5, and Nissan Rogue. That's pretty much all I can say

for now, but I promise we'll have a full review at the end of November 2018,

whenever you're watching this, and now back to another taste of me

Apple iPhone XS - A Ruthless Review - Duration: 17:32.

Welcome back everyone, I'm ThioJoe, and it is once again iPhone season.

You may already know that Apple released 3 models this year, the iPhone XS, the XS Max,

and the XR.

The one we're going over today is the XS, which I chose because I didn't really want

a massive screen I couldn't reach across.

Even with the 8 Plus I could barely reach the top, so I think for me the XS Max would

have just been unwieldly.

But this is NOT a comparison video, we're going to just focus on the XS, and do a ruthless

review.

I'll tell you what I like, what I hate, and everything inbetween.

And if you're wondering, no I didn't get this for free, I had to shell out the cash for

it, so you know I'm not going to sugar coat anything, especially with the massive thousand

dollar price tag this year.

Now as usual before we jump in I want to give a quick plug for my instagram account, if

you want to check that out it's just @ThioJoe, and the link is also in the description.

So first of all let's start out with the visuals of the phone.

The design is essentially identical to last year's iPhone X, with one tiny exception I'll

get to in a second.

On the front of the phone you'll notice that like the iPhone X, and unlike phones before

it, there of course is no home button or fingerprint sensor.

It's a nearly edge-to-edge display with the exception of that notch at the top, which

has the face-id hardware, the camera, speaker, proximity sensor, and all that.

On the sides there's the usual power button, sim card tray, volume buttons, and silent

mode switch.

Plus the speaker and microphone grills on the bottom along with the lightning port.

No real surprises yet.

And on the back it's mostly the same story.

You'll see the dual camera lenses, one wide angle and one telephoto, with the flash and

microphone in the middle.

Also, that tiny difference between the X and XS I mentioned is that this camera bump is

slightly larger than the X, so cases for the X may not necessarily fit the XS, you always want to double check that

As for the rest of the back, it's made of glass, not aluminum, which like last year's

generation of iPhones allows wireless charging, something I'm a big fan of.

Oh and by the way, this entire thing is water resistant with a rating of IP68, so it can

be submerged under 2 meters of water, for up to 30 minutes.

Alright, now back to the screen on the front.

This thing is a 5.8 inch OLED panel, just like the iPhone X, and unlike the IPS type

panel used in every other iPhone before.

The resolution is 2436 x 1125 at 458 ppi, same as the Max.

But keep in mind this is a wider aspect ratio than what is standard, so technically it's

a larger screen, but it's not as wide as you might be used to.

And holding my old 8 plus again feels massive by comparison.

That being said though the pixel density is obviously great, and you can't see individual

pixels even looking up close.

Being OLED there are a few advantages, one being that the contrast ratio is awesome.

Because of the way OLED works, anything that is supposed to be black is actually pure black.

And as for brightness, I tested using my light meter, and this OLED screen is actually significantly

brighter than my 8 Plus on max settings, having a 700 lux reading vs *450 lux on the 8 plus.

And that was on a pure white image, no true tone or anything, max brightness.

So that's actually surprising because usually OLED isn't as bright as IPS.

Colors are also very vibrant with OLED too, and it's an HDR display.

However, I will point out that the OLED screen is noticeably warmer than on the 8 Plus, especially

when TrueTone display is enabled, but you kind of get used to it.

Another bad thing is that there is a HUGE blue shift when you tilt the phone off-axis

at all.

So off-axis viewing is not really accurate.

Overall though, I still would say I'm satisfied with the screen, and I mostly like how much

brighter it is.

Next, let's go over the internals of the phone, the hardware you can't see.

The processor of the phone is Apple's own "A12 Bionic".

Apparently it's about 15% faster than last year, but the GPU is supposedly 50% faster.

And Apple also bragged about how much faster the "neural engine" is, but that's only going

to be for certain uses like Augmented Reality.

So it's faster than the X and 8, but probably not noticeably except for graphics intensive

games.

For storage, you have the option for either 64, 256, or a whopping 512GB!

I personally went with the 256 because 512 was definitely overkill for me at least, but I'm definitely glad they

offer it for people who might take a lot of 4K video or something like that.

In any case, 256 GB is still a ton of storage, and I love having this much free space and

not having to worry about running out ever.

As for RAM, they actually upgraded it to 4GB this year, instead of 3GB like they did last year

So THANK you Apple, that's one of the things I thought they skimped on before.

4 GB puts them right in line with other flag ships, though you might argue that since the

price is way more than other flagships, they should have added even more.

Typical Apple.

But when it comes to battery, this is what pissed me off the most.

Apple CLAIMS the iPhone XS has 30 minutes more battery life than the X, which in the

grand scheme of things basically just means it's the same.

BUT, the battery is apparently actually SMALLER than the X.

It's 2659 mAh, vs previously 2716.

Apple, just stop it.

Put bigger batteries in your phones, this is getting stupid.

Seriously, a SMALLER BATTERY?

You might be wondering does it really matter, and yes it does.

My iPhone 8 Plus I thought had great battery life.

Not amazing, but I didn't really have any complaints.

The XS on the other hand, has noticeably shorter battery life, so it's usually 50/50 on whether

I'll need to recharge it at some point during the day or not.

And I tend to keep my phone on low brightness too.

Anyway, let's move on to some more specs.

Inside we also have Bluetooth 5, which isn't new but still a lot better in terms of range

and bandwidth than previous versions if that's what you're still using.

This phone also has a new modem capable of Gigabit LTE if your carrier offers that, or

probably just faster cellular in general.

And I definitely saw crazy download speeds, like 150mbps or more, though upload speeds

were still nothing special.

Alright so next, let's move on to performance, starting with the camera, my favorite part

of almost any phone.

The camera seems to be the same thing as last year, but the software is the main upgrade

here, with a feature called "Smart HDR".

They're basically FINALLY trying to catch up with Google's Pixel camera processing,

where it samples multiple frames, then combines them with the picture taken, to reduce blown

out parts, and increase dynamic range... supposedly.

For the most part, I found the camera to look just as good as previous years iPhones.

The pictures obviously all turn out really nice, as you'd hope.

I found the smart HDR feature works alright, though it's probably best for things like

landscapes and outdoor shots.

I don't think there has been a huge jump in camera quality from the previous year, if

at all.

Though the sensor pixels are supposedly slightly larger, which always helps.

Basically the camera is just as sharp as you'd expect, but I still don't think it holds up

against the pixel cameras.

When it comes to video, like the previous generation the XS is capable of 4K 60fps which

is pretty crazy, and also slow motion with 1080p at 240fps.

Though the bitrate of the video is still only about 55 mbps, so while it uses the much more

efficient h.265 codec, for 4K 60fps, that's still a really low bit rate.

Before we move on, we have to mention the front facing camera.

Now iPhones I think usually have the best front facing cameras, and have slightly longer

focal lengths so your face looks less distorted.

And on the XS it also looks good, with good colors, but for some reason Apple decided

to add weird post processing to selfies that have gotten a lot of attention.

Basically they add this smoothing effect on your face and adjust your skin tone, and in

some cases makes you look super airbrushed.

I noticed this a bit myself, and you can see when I compare it to the iPhone 8 Plus camera,

it does make my look almost plastic.

And you can't turn it off at all.

So hopefully Apple changes that in the future.

Ok so now let's get to battery performance, which I touched on earlier.

On my older iPhone 8 Plus, I was really happy with the battery life.

But on my iPhone XS, it's noticeably shorter. Not super short, but noticeably shorter.

Now I understand that it's a smaller body size, so it can fit less of a battery, but

still, just make the phone a millimiter thicker Apple, literally no one will care.

If I've been using the phone even somewhat heavily, I will definitely have to charge

my phone if I want to go do anything in the evening.

And usually I find myself limiting how much I use the phone, for fear of using up too

much battery.

With fast charging that's not really a big deal, and it can charge VERY fast with quick

charge.

Like easily at least 50% within 30 minutes.

Only problem is, Apple doesn't include the fast charge power cable or charger with the

phone.

You have to spend like $50 more on the 29W USB C wall charger, and a USB-C to Lightning cable

Which is an absolute JOKE, and I'm definitely calling Apple out on that BS.

Also for some reason, there's no indication that you're fast charging or not, you just

have to trust it.

The XS does support wireless charging, but keep in mind it will typically be slower than

a cable.

Alright, now let's get to possibly the most important thing, the user experience.

And beginning with how fast is this thing?

Well obviously by this point you should know it's going to be as snappy and responsive

as any other flagship, if not moreso.

It simply doesn't lag at all.

Most phones these days when you get them new, they're not going to lag at all.

And the processors are fast enough where even after a while, they're not going to lag

And with iOS 12, which is actually a great upgrade, this thing is screaming fast.

When it comes to replacing the home button, I was really worried I'd hate it.

Now I'm not talking about the fingerprint sensor for now, literally just the home butotn

functionality, which has been replaced with a swipe up gesture.

And to my surprise, I actually do like it.

It feels really smooth and natural to just swipe up away from the bottom of the screen.

The only thing that is slower is app switching, which I found was a lot easier with the home

button to just double tap, but now you have to swipe up far, then kind of hold it, then

swipe apps away.

It's something you have to actually think about, and make sure you hold it long enough,

and swipe far enough, where before you could just double tap and not thing about it at

all.

Still, it hasn't been a dealbreaker for me.

As for the notch, it really doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

Because most videos are 16:9, they don't actually fill up the wider aspect ratio screen, so

the notch doesn't cut into them.

But it does for wider videos.

One thing I don't like though is that with the notch, there is no way to show the battery

percentage like you could on other iPhones.

You have to bring down the control center to show the percentage, which is annoying.

I'd rather it just show the percentage instead of the battery symbol to be honest.

Now, when it comes to removal of the fingerprint sensor, that really pisses me off.

I think Apple should have just put it on the back, like so many other Android phones.

Fingerptint sensors work AWESOME on the back, but instead Apple decided to double down on

Face ID.

Now FaceID works ok.

But IT IS slower than the fingerprint, no doubt about it.

And whereas before you could just press the home button, hold you finger there, and automatically

unlock the phone to the home screen, now you have to go through so many steps.

Double tap the screen to wake it, let face id unlock you, then swipe up.

3 Steps vs 1.

If it had both face id and fingerprint, it would be great, but I don't like how FaceID

is something I have to actually think about when using.

I have to look and make sure it unlocked, then swipe up, you have to time it, so annoying.

And other problems I've had with face ID is it doesn't work when the phone is too close to

your face, like if you're lying in bed, you have to hold your phone away, make sure the

pillow isn't in your face, and all that.

And the BIGGEST annoyance is that it doesn't work with some of my sunglasses, which blocks

my eyes too much I guess, so it refuses to unlock unless I turn off "require attention" feature,

which I don't want to do, because then someone could unlock your phone without you even looking

at it.

So my take on FaceID is that if it was in addition to the fingerptint sensor it would

be awesome, but because it isn't it frankly sucks and is only barely tolerable enough

to keep using.

Though there are other things I do like about the XS that not many people have been talking

about.

Namely, the Dual sim capability.

I think this is actually a KILLER feature.

Obviously there is only 1 sim tray, but in an upcoming update, you will be able to use

both an esim and physical sim card, so you can have two phone numbers on one phone.

And set which contacts will use which numbers.

This is awesome if say you have a work phone and personal phone, or you travel and need

a foreign sim card and domestic one, or just want one phone number you can give out and

don't care about getting spammed.

Though apparently the second phone number won't be able to be used with iMessage, which

is so stupid, hopefully Apple changes that.

Still, if you are someone who uses two phones for any reason, this could EASILY be enough

reason to upgrade.

Another thing I really like about this phone is just the size.

Like I said, coming from the 8 plus, it was hard to reach the entire screen with my thumb.

The XS seems to be the best of both worlds, and it is is noticeably less wide, so I can

actually comfortably reach my thumb all the way across it, and wrap my fingers around

the other side securely, instead of it just kind of resting on my fingers.

And obviously with the edge to edge screen, it doesn't really feel any smaller, even though

the screen isn't as wide, because it's a lot taller.

So I definitely think I prefer this form factor.

Of course, there are things I definitely do NOT like about this phone, that could have

easily been avoided by Apple.

First of all, this is just a disgrace, but Apple did not even include a lightning to

3.5mm headphone dongle in the box anymore.

It's literally a thousand dollar phone, and they couldn't throw in a dongle that probably

costs them a dollar to make.

Seriously Apple, screw you for that, I'm not kidding that's not cool.

Also, I don't like how they don't include the faster charger either.

Fast charging legitimately works great, and it would literally improve every iphone user's

experience if they included it, because I don't think many people even know it's capable

of that.

And finally, I am STILL waiting for them to add 120 Hz refresh rate to the screen.

That's another thing that would be a KILLER feature, but apparently there are issues with

it with OLED, or they're just keeping that feature in the bag for a future iPhone.

So let me try and wrap things up.

Some things I've mentioned that I especially like about this phone are the huge storage

options up to 512 GB, the dual sim capability, the form factor, and the great as always camera quality.

Some things I definitely dislike are the barely satisfying battery life, FaceID as a mediocre

replacement to the fingerprint, and of course the thousand dollar plus price tag.

So overall, this is what I think.

The iPhone XS is definitely a good phone, probably even a great phone, but not an Amazing

phone, even though it could have been.

If you already have an iPhone X, it's definitely not worth an upgrade unless you're paying

for Apple's upgrade program.

If you have an older iPhone, the main benefits will be the different formfactor and screen,

the dual sim card, and the camera upgrade.

I would personally not consider FaceID a benefit or an upgrade.

So if none of those things really excite you, I'd definitely wait at least another year.

Maybe if the price wasn't so ludicrous, you know it could be a different story, but Apple

REALLY took prices to the next level, without taking new features along with it.

Of course, if you have a really ancient phone, like 3 years older or more, you definitely

WILL find this a massive upgrade, and you won't be disappointed.

so we're back at good 'ol Jack early this morning because it looks

like they've got a brand new prime rib steak and egg burrito on the menu and it

sure looks pretty tasty so let's set ourselves up to that drive-thru yeah how

you doing today good good thank you you know peep this out let me go for one of

those new steak and egg burritos the one with the prime rib oh just the burrito

by itself that's fine

great thanks a lot so Jack's been doing the breakfast thing all day for a minute

now and if this one tastes as good as it looks

let's peep this one out up close and see what it's working with guess who's

beefing up your morning with a steak and egg breakfast burrito this guy so Jack

is beefing up breakfast with their all new prime rib steak and egg burrito and

initial first impressions it's a little on the average-sized guy's compared to

the picture I know it's not gonna look exactly like that but the size is

definitely smaller than what I was expecting especially when you look at

the size of my hand with it let's see what this one's packin it definitely

smells pretty fantastic on the inside plenty of that prime rib chopped steak as

you can see there we've got some cheese we've got some egg and this is supposed

to feature some hashbrowns but I don't really see that in there looks like a

little bit of extra sauces with it as well but man this definitely looks great

and it smells really great let's take a look at the other side of this one

really quick here and see if any of that hash brown is visible and I am not

seeing it but hopefully there'll be something in there when I take some

bites but like I said it looks great it smells great and definitely pretty

decent so far at least in the looks department here guys it's the prime rib

steak and egg burrito from jack-in-the-box let's peep out this

flavor up top Jack

Mondays right yesir plenty of chopped prime rib steak and a nice

portion of eggs we are diving in it's the prime rib steak and egg burrito here

at jack-in-the-box

mmm there it is we got some hash browns mixed in with the eggs and the prime rib

all in that one bite there not too much cheese yet so far guys but believe it or

not the main player on top of the hashbrowns flavor-wise is gonna be this

sauce it almost tastes like a buffalo sauce believe it or not a little bit of

sizzle just a little bit and it looks like it's there to add just a little

background flavor but it's really more in the foreground guys at least from the

first bite anyway let's keep going mmm I took out a nice chunk of that prime

rib with those first couple of bites but I have to say there's a decent amount of

meat still left in this half here guys as you can see the eggs are fluffy we

got some hashbrowns there off to the side the cheese itself I'm still not

really tasting too much it's really the sauce believe it or not that is taking

center stage with this one and I like it because of that light buffalo flavor

that it's got but overall everything seems very hearty with just the right

amount of saltiness and of course the warm tortilla that it's wrapped in very

very satisfying considering the price point of this when I was a little

worried about that because of how much this is and what I was looking at I mean

for five bucks you do get just a little concern when something doesn't quite

cover the size of your hand especially when it comes to a burrito but

thankfully everything on the inside of this one is delivering flavor-wise

that's where it counts and I have to say I'm liking this so far let's keep going

hmm man it's really good and just to give you an idea the thickness of the

meat is if you couldn't tell from that close up let me pull one of these out

here real quick and get this to focus in for you just a little bit nice chunks of

thick meat here guys this is not your typical fast-food meat by far it's not

small it's definitely hearty and as you can see a little piece of that hash

brown that's on there very decent of the size Department hmm but man that sauce

that it's got like I said it's a light buffalo it goes amazingly well but let

me circle back to the cheese real fast because while I can definitely see it

aside from the fact that it is blending with the sauce it is pretty much the

same color I just wish the flavor was a little bit stronger in that department I

mean everything else is definitely working with this but again the cheese

is just not really there what you're getting is primarily the sauce the meat

and the hash because of the saltiness not a bad thing

just a little less well-rounded than I would have liked here's a quick shot of

the other half of this one just to close it out and as you can see plenty of that

buffalo style sauce in the very bottom right there with a decent amount of egg

overall a very nice quality burrito just a little lopsided in the cheese

Department when it comes to flavor but other than that very tasty so with that

said I'm gonna have to give the prime rib steak and egg burrito here at

jack-in-the-box a decent 7.7 out of 10 this would have been

well over the 8 range had the size been just a little bit bigger and the

flavor of the cheese just a little bit more pronounced but overall it

absolutely delivers in the flavor Department I just wish it was as beefed

up as they advertise it to be at least in the size Department everything else

though solid my new steak and egg breakfast burrito part of the breakfast

burrito family but as always this is all based upon my first experience having

this right now for the first time on camera in front of all of you but what

what's up guys in today's video I'm going to be

reviewing the new fenty stunna lip paints there are four new shades there are

three nudes in one matte black shade the applicators on these are really nice

because they are round and they hug the lips really really nicely the applicator

is also really easy to hold which is great because it'll give you a really

good mobility and control and the first stunna lip paint we're going to be talking

about is uncuffed now this is my favorite it's a beautiful mauvy pink

shade and it swatches wonderfully so if you really like the NARS liquid

lipsticks you're really going to like this formula uncuffed delivers instant

flawless pigmentation and as you can see here no lip liner is needed to get those

crisp clean lines that we all like this is a perfect mauvy pink and I am truly

in love with this shade out of the four new fenty stunna lip paints this one is my

favorite and it's what I'm going to be wearing to all my holiday parties to

intensify the color I'm going in with a second layer and because this formula

feels just like water a second layer will not weigh your lips down and just

like that we're left with this beautiful romantic mauvy pink shade perfect for

daytime and nighttime wear next up we have

unveil which is this beautiful brown shade perfect for fall time in this

holiday season and I do have to say that unveil this look ten times better on

the lips then on the actual packaging I love that it's not too dark but it's not

too light so I truly believe this is a universal Brown so no matter what your

skin tone is you can rock this and oh my god check out that color

it's truly irresistible I love it and just like our mother Pat McGrath would

say it is major the next stunna lip paint we're going to be talking about is

unbutton and this is the most interesting one out of all of them and I

say this because it's a very fair nude shade I do think it can stand on its own

if you are bold with it but I feel like I would personally apply it with a lip

liner if I were applying it on myself or on my other clients although I have seen

this color on a very deep skin tone and I thought I looked absolutely stunned

so that being said it's a very versatile color perfect to be worn alone or with a

lip liner it's also a perfect shade to ombre your other colors with more of

that later in the video and our next stunna lip shade is uninvited and there is

no surprise here at mrs. Fenty is a very classy lady with an edge so she had to

bring out the lace and whips with this matte black shade and it kind of has a

blue undertone although I wish that he gave me a little bit more pigmentation

on that first layer I still think it's great it's not patchy it's even the

magic happens with that second layer on the second layer you do get so much more

pigment in terms of intensity so if you want that dark black I just burned my

ex-husband's house down a second layer of the fant istana lip paint is gonna do

it uninvited is not for the faint of heart

it's bold and it says I'm here and I'm here without an invitation

and our first stunna lip paint combo is going to be unveil and unbutton and

after applying unveil I want to apply unbutton on the center and just kind of

like dab my lips together to spread out the color and after covering the center

of my lips with a fair amount of unbutton I'm going to go ahead and take

my finger and then start dabbing on the center and working my way outward and

this dabbing motion is going to be what's going to blend the two shades

together I'm going to work in layers to build my ombre effect and I'm going to

be using the same technique on all of my layers I'm going to start the

application of unbutton on the center of my lips and then I'm going to blend it

with my fingers into unveil two layers of unbutton will give you a great ombre

but because I'm extra I'm going in with a third layer of unbutton to really

accentuate the ombre effect on my lips and we check it out it is truly stunning

it's a stunna combination our next stunna lip paint combination is uncuffed and unbutton and

I'm going to use the same technique as I did before except the base of my lips is

going to be uncuffed and then I'm going to add layers of unbutton on the center

that way I can build an intensity of my ombre and this is going to be a more

subtle ombre but beautiful and nonetheless

I love mixing my liquid lipsticks together to create an ombre effect I do

feel like it makes my lips look larger and I also think that it adds an

artistic edge to any makeup look and our third and final stunning lip combination

is going to be uncuffed and uninvited and in honor of Halloween we're going to

do an animal inspired lip I am going to fill my lips using uninvited and I'm

going to use about two layers to really intensify the pigment and for this look

I'm going to use uncuffed on my bottom lip to create that illusion of an animal

lip to connect the top lip with the nose I'm going to do two stripes on my top

lip and I'm using the Stila liquid eyeliner this is the micro tip I'm then

going to take my uninvited from the paint and I'm going to fill the top of

my nose in the shape of an animal notes and to do this I started at the base of

the nose and then I worked my way upwards to shape it as if it were a bear

nose a cheetah nose whatever you want to think of it as and to make it more

animal-like I decided to draw three dots on both sides of my top lip and for this

I use my English el eyeliner in number 77 and just like that you can create a

animal inspired makeup look using your fenty stunna lip paint shades and that

2007-2018 Silverado Barricade 3" Black Bull Bar Review & Install - Duration: 13:55.

So, of all the bull bars, brush guards, and bumpers we sell at americantrucks.com, the

Barricade 3-inch Bull Bar in this black painted finish will be just about the most affordable

and the easiest way to get some basic front end protection for your '07 to '18 Silverado.

At around the $170 price point, again, this is just about the least expensive option and

by a fair margin.

Now, even though it is one of the most affordable, it is still pretty high quality.

It's actually an entire welded one-piece unit, so there's no real assembly required.

It also replaces your factory tow hook mounting points, so there's no major fabrication or

modification needed to get this installed.

If your truck did not come with factory tow hooks, you'll have to make some very basic

trimming to the plastic inserts down here.

But it's something that you can do with basic hand tools and the total install shouldn't

take more than an hour or two so I'm going to give the install very easy one out of three

wrenches on my difficulty meter.

I'd say overall, this is actually a pretty good first mod if you just picked up your

Silverado or if you haven't really done anything to it yet.

So, if you like the price of this bull bar, you should stick around.

I'm actually going to show you that install step by step.

So without further ado, let's go ahead and get started.

To install new bull bar, you'll need the following tools: a 17, 18, and 19-millimeter wrench,

standard drive ratchets, standard metric sockets, long extensions, and a flathead screwdriver

or a pry tool.

Optional but helpful tools including a cordless impact, a swivel socket, and an air ratchet.

So, before we install our ball bar, we have to put our factory bumper, and before we pull

our factory bumper, we have to remove this plastic painted trim piece.

There are some screws holding it inside the fender wells on either side of the truck,

one screw on the side here, and one deeper on the inside that I can't show you yet, but

I will show you in a second.

To remove these screws, you're going to need a 7-millimeter socket, and if you're using

a power tool like me, it's helpful to have a long extension so we can get up in there.

So, now that we have those four screws removed, we can crawl underneath the truck and we can

remove that plastic cover by pushing on the retaining clips inside here.

It's pretty easy to do.

You might want to have a flathead screwdriver or a plastic pry tool to make a lot easier

on yourself.

So, now that we have that plastic cover removed, we have to remove our grille.

To access the hardware holding the grille in place, we have to pop off our radiator

cover.

This is held on with plastic push pins so you can use that same flathead screwdriver

or that plastic pry tool that you used on the cover earlier.

So, with radiator cover removed, we can now get to the hardware holding the grille in

place.

There are four screws on top and four on the bottom.

All of them are 10-millimeter heads so you're gonna need a 10-millimeter socket.

And for the ones on the bottom, some of them are recessed, so you'll also want to get an

extension of some sort.

Now that we have our grille removed, we can finally start removing our bumper.

There are two support brackets inside of the truck that we have to pull off from the truck

side.

To remove those, you're gonna need a 13-millimeter socket.

And if you're using a power tool like me, it's a tight fit, so you might want to have

a swivel as well.

Once you got those bumper supports removed underneath, you can then unplug your factory

fog light harness.

So with those two support brackets underneath removed, we can finally remove the bumper

itself from the vehicle.

To do that, you're going to pull four bolts from the top here.

To remove those bolts, you're gonna need an 18-millimeter socket.

Two of them are recessed down further, so you're also going to need an extension.

So, before you pull that last bolt securing the bumper to the vehicle, make sure you have

a good tight grip on it or make sure you have a friend with you.

It will rest on the brackets that you just pulled those bolts from.

However, it is pretty heavy, so once you go to remove, you just want to make sure that

doesn't fall down and crush your feet.

Now that we have our factory bumper removed, we can also remove our factory bumper brackets

located on either side of the frame.

To remove these brackets, you're gonna need a 15-millimeter socket.

Now that our tow hooks are removed, we can reinstall our grille, bumper, and all the

other hardware we removed earlier.

We have to get that stuff in place before we put the brackets on for our bull bar.

So we did all that work to remove our tow hooks.

We got all of our hardware, our bumper, our grille back in place.

We can finally install the brackets for our new bull bar.

It's pretty easy.

It's a little bit difficult to show you guys in here and obviously, it is a tight fit,

but I mocked up what it should look like when it's installed.

You got these bolt plates right here.

The bolt plate studs are going to go in the holes where your original tow hook hardware

went.

You're also going to sit the bracket in those studs inside the tow hook mount on the frame.

You're going to have flat washers and the nylon locking nuts on each of the studs, and

to tighten these down, you're gonna need a 19-millimeter socket.

It's a bit of a squeeze, so you might not be able to use a power tool like we've been

using.

You might need to use a hand ratchet.

So, you can see the studs on the inside of the bolt plates that I was mentioning earlier.

Again, it's a little hard to see from the outside, but you're gonna want to stick your

flat washers and your nylon locking nuts on these studs.

As you can see, it is a tight fit, so you'll want to use a wrench.

You might be able to use a box end, but you might end up having to use an open end wrench.

All right, now we finally have our brackets tightened down and we can install our bull

bar.

We're going to grab the remaining bolts, flat washers, and nylon locking nuts in the kit

in order to secure the bull bar to the brackets.

Since the brackets and the mounting point on the bar are angled, you can kind of let

the bar rest on the brackets while you put all this hardware on.

So, once you have all that hardware hand tightened, you just want to make sure your bull bar is

lined up and level with everything before you tighten everything down.

I got my buddy plank down here keeping this thing still for me.

You're going to need a 17-millimeter wrench and a 16-millimeter socket.

Once you've got those final bolts and nuts tightened down, go ahead and make sure everything

is still aligned and that should wrap up your install.

That also wraps up my review of Barricade's 3-inch Bull Bar with the black painted finish

fitting your '07 to '18 Silverado.

Arturia Keylab mkII [FULL DEMO & REVIEW] - Duration: 16:27.

what's up guys it's Patrick today we're talking about the Arturia key lab mark

- and we got a lot to talk about this is the part 2 video so if you missed part 1

and box the keylab gave you my initial first thoughts my initial impressions

and if you want to go back and check out that video don't worry I'll link that up

for you but you don't want to go anywhere yet cuz this is the video you

want to see we're talking futures we're talking functionality I'm gonna go over

all of the great things the Satori aqui lab mark 2 has to offer so now that I've

had a couple of days to really get to know this midi keyboard I want to share

with you what I personally think makes this keyboard different from other

keyboard controllers that are out on the market the first thing you'll notice is

the quality of this MIDI keyboard this keyboard is built like a tank the body

is made out of metal as opposed to plastic which is what you typically get

with a lot of MIDI controllers that you find today all of the controls work and

function really well the drum pads are really nice to play they're nice and

velocity sensitive and the key bed is Arturia's top-of-the-line synth action

key bed that can be found in their top-of-the-line analog synthesizer the

next thing that's really interesting about this key lab mark 2 is the cv

connect ability now I don't have any experience with modular synthesizers but

from my understanding this keyboard controller can control and interface

with modular synthesizers again uncharted territory for me but it's

definitely something that I want to experiment with in the future

I heard Brian for Metiria described it this way modular synths are -

synthesizers what guitar pedals are - guitars that really excites me so when

the day comes where I maybe want to start expanding and move away from

software synths and towards hardware sense and modular synths this tutorial

key lab is going to accommodate my desire for expansion the included

software is also worth talking about because a lot of times these hardware

and software bundles usually aren't as good as they seem but in this case it's

really good first up we have Ableton Live light now this is the introductory

version to Ableton Live which is one of the industry standard digital audio

workstations personally I'm the logic user but I've been wanting to check out

Ableton Live for a little while now and this is a great opportunity to do so

next up we have POV which is a Turia's acoustic piano software suite a lot of

really great piano sounds included in the software suite so I'm

excited to have that last but certainly not least one of the main things we are

here to talk about is a Turia's analog lab as it earlier calls it this is your

vintage keyboard collection analog lab is packed with presets from Victorious

stellar software synth collection and if you're like me and you've invested in

some of those vitória synth sounds or vintage keyboard sounds all of those

sounds and presets will integrate right into analog lab making analog lab your

one-stop shop for all things Vittoria vintage keys scents sounds that

make sense don't worry we are gonna talk a ton about analog lab together now

lastly we have the three different modes analog lab DAW and user and this is what

makes the workflow that comes from working with this keyboard controller so

great now let's start over here with the user setting and this is the setting

that I'm going to talk the least about just because this is completely

customizable you can do whatever you want

map whatever controls you want you can control whatever software instrument or

analog instrument you want in this setting essentially user mode gives you

complete customization of keyboard controller all of the controller

assignments and parameters can be accessed and edited right here from the

front panel on the keyboard controller if we go over here into our DAW mode now

the keyboard controller functions like a normal keyboard controller over here in

the knobs and faders section this will allow you to control your mixer if you

have a big session you can use the bank feature to move around within your mixer

and because everything over in this portion of the keyboard is dual function

so depending on whether you're in da mode or analog lab mode these knobs and

faders do different things that is clearly labeled for you so all of the

white text corresponds to da mode all the blue text corresponds to analog lab

and the nice thing is the LEDs on the analog lab and dog controls will help

you remember which colors represent which mode when first going into da mode

you want to make sure you hold the button down and select which dog you are

working in so you have live Logic Pro Tools Cubase Studio One Andrey

I work in logic so that's what we're selecting then you press the button

again and you are good to go you have your standard transport

controls those are really handy to have and then over here this is your doc

men's section and this is where those magnetic overlays are going to come into

play so obviously you can see here I'm using logic but each of the overlays are

double-sided so if you are working with in multiple dogs you will want to have

these magnetic overlays close by but in doll mode the keyboard functions as you

would expect so if you want to play some drums on your drum pads you can do that

if you want to control an electric piano you can do that the center knob here

becomes a jog wheel so you can scroll your playhead around your project which

I love so even though in da mode this keyboard functions as you would expect I

do think some of these controls and features give the workflow just a little

boost and I'm always looking for that so I'm very pleased so let's move over into

the analog lab section of this keyboard controller and this is the mode that

kind of in essence defines this keyboard controller over here on the right side

of the keyboard we have nine different controls and this will allow us to

select piano electric piano organ pad bass lead sequencer keys and then a

multi affect so let me just start by showing you some of the basic

functionality of this and I've got an analog lab pulled up within logic so I

can show you what that looks like as well so let's say we're looking for a

pad so we'll select a pad right away our pads come up in analog labs so if we go

over here to our preset controls now we can start scrolling between all of the

different pad presets now if you remember earlier I told you that any

synth sounds that you already own for materia are immediately integrated

within analog lab so let me select this Deckard's DX preset now this is

obviously for the yamaha dx7 and I don't know who Deckard is but hopefully his

sound is dope now you could see right away it loads up the preset and I've got

some controls that I can control with my knobs and faders but the cool thing is

it's at play it

okay it sounds pretty cool but because I own the dx7 plug-in I can come up here

hover over the dx7 click on this little pencil tool and that will bring up the

full plugin and I can edit all the parameters within the plugin now now

listen that is by no means a pitch to try to get you to buy its weary ascent

plugins I'm just saying if you were like me and you had a few you will enjoy

further customization within analogue lab and I think that's really cool even

if you own not a Vittorio's instrument plugins you will still have plenty of

presets I think like over 6,500 presets to work with tons of great sounds you do

not need to spend any more money to make this thing good it's already great now

let's say you're somebody like me and keys aren't exactly your first

instrument KFC is easy for everybody to play the transpose function will let you

change the key of C to whatever key you want let's say you want to play in

b-flat hold on your transpose key press b-flat now we are in the key of b-flat

just like that listen I always think that it's in your best interest to learn

the instrument but this is a nice little workaround it'll help speed up workflow

if you're working on a song and you need to come up with something real quick and

I'll shoot all I know is C major you could quickly transpose and get by it's

nice it's a nice little safety net to have I think the feature is great

another one of the features that will help you cheat at keyboard is this chord

feature so if you want to program a whole chord to one note hold down your

chord button now we have a major seven for every single note and we also have a

club head on our hand so

over here in the pad section everything functions as you would expect but if you

trigger cord memory now we have programmed cords for each pad so let's

check out the multi feature now what this does is it allows you to have two

presets or sounds playing at once so if we select multi here you'll see that in

analog lab we get this whole new list of presets and you can see over on the

right in this piano string ensemble for example we have a grand piano and a a RP

2600 synthesizer very nice and you can scroll through and check out some

different ones who far away pad let's see what this sounds like ooh -

matrix-12

yeah not for me ooh travel to heaven let's go there together shall we

reminds me of the Space Mountain ride at Disney World

pretty cool but let's say you go through all the presets you can't find quite

what you're looking for and you want to build your own how do we do that let me

show you so let's say you want to start with a key sound so we select keys and

if you notice right over here when we selected keys part one was illuminated

okay so we go through let's go back to Betty Davis eyes I love the 80s what can

I say so we have our key sound we have the first song that we want to use now

we go over here and we select part two now we're selecting our part two preset

you can see even the highlighted text has changed from blue to red which is

nice just so you can at a glance know exactly what you're doing and let's say

we want a pad we will go and we'll scroll down let's find something oh

Deckard's DX obviously we're gonna use the yamaha dx7 here one of my personal

favorites that's really cool

it's really nice and you could tweak each preset to blend them however you

want or adjust the effects let's say we wanted a little bit more of the dx7

we'll go over here to our master fader give that a little bit more we'll go

back over to part one we'll take our we'll take our volume

can hear a little bit more the dx7 it's nice

it's cool again this multi feature will let you use any two presets any two

sounds that you want so not only do you get like over 6500 presets pre-loaded

with analog lab but now you can combine preset sounds so obviously a ton of

customization you can really create your own unique sounds and if you find

something you really love and you want to say that just press save as title it

whatever you want dank demo I think that pretty much sums

it up you could pick kind of your different styles here bright simple

multi soft and you just say that another cool thing you can do with multi is set

a split in the keyboard and program one side of the keyboard to one sound and

the other side of the keyboard to another sound so in order to set a split

point you hold down the live button here and you set your split point so

everything below the C will be the Betty Davis eyes prophet five sound

and everything above will be the deckert's DX yamaha dx7 sound

again just like multi when you're setting a split you can use any two

sounds you want what more can I say I'm completely thrilled with this new

MIDI keyboard like I said before I even got this key lab I was a long time

Ettore a synth user so I have something that interfaces with some of my favorite

plugins and sounds that I use so regularly is really really nice to have

and listen I totally understand that this is not a cheap piece of equipment

so hopefully in closing here I can help you determine if the investment is right

for you first of all who I think the key lab mark to is ideal for first and

foremost if you are at all invested in the Ettore ecosystem this is a great

keyboard controller for you because like I said before all of your pre-existing

plugins your presets your sounds your user presets those will all integrate

seamlessly into analog lab if you're a producer and you're looking for a

keyboard controller that will speed up your workflow this is a great option for

you if you're like I was and you're somebody who's looking to upgrade from

your entry-level MIDI controller or even just upgrade to something that feels a

little bit more professional this is a great option for you if you're looking

to invest in your first MIDI keyboard and you don't quite know a lot about

production or recording yet maybe this isn't the option for you maybe you want

to get something that's a little bit more affordable to start learn the ropes

a little bit and then come back to the cue lab it'll

always be here waiting for you now the cubeb 49 is 499 dollars the co

op 61 is five hundred and forty nine dollars it's a lot of you know a grilled

cheese sandwiches if you know what I mean is it worth the price personally I

think the answer is yes this keyboard controller is everything that I could

want my songwriting and production process centers around the mid keyboard

quite a bit I program a lot of beats and do a lot with drum samples so I love

having the pads I also do a lot with keyboard sounds and synthesizer sounds

and if I'm honest the only reason I don't use more acoustic piano sounds is

because I don't really have a plugin that I think sounds good but now that I

have the piano V collection that's all changed so I'm excited to have that

analog lab if you couldn't tell by now I'm so happy with this is ideal for me I

mean a torria has really become my one-stop shop for all things piano

keyboards synthesizer and I'm really really happy about

I love how this keyboard controller has enhanced my workflow when I'm working at

Mikey lab there are very few times when I need to reach for my computer mouse or

my computer keyboard everything that I need is right here and for those of you

who write for those of you who produce you know that when inspiration strikes

it's like a switch flips your right in to go mode having all other controls

ready your fingertips is a tremendous asset you're not at the mouse scroll

through instruments trying to find a sound all your sounds are right here all

of your instruments are right here obviously I know that if you get one of

these keyboards it doesn't mean that you're gonna completely forget about all

of your other third-party instruments and plugins but point is it's nice to

have so much right at your fingertips so that's gonna wrap it up guys I hope i

did this key lab mark to proper justice i will obviously be sure to link these

one of these out for yourself i know that i've only just begun to scratch the

surface of what this thing is capable of if you guys have any more questions

you don't want to get pictures with them because that encourages everyone else to

these videos but what they don't see is what happens when the videos get turned

off not many people get to see that side of Jake to people around a 1.9 million

dollar construction contract then that firm gave his campaign $10,000 deals for

it I didn't like what was happening so I left my personal opinion I've never met

Jake's dad a parent working with their child in any case doesn't work but it's

probably hard to explain that Jake because it literally is his dad yeah so

it's like hey man I don't think this is a good idea and then he's probably just

say well fuck you that's my dad yeah it was a constant fight between me and Greg

certain things I texted him just before the fight but that's the last time I

someone who leaves team 10 it's like well you don't like us then because it's

want to be in that then you mustn't like us and you must have something against

us in you something along those lines is the thought process when people leave

it's like you're not supposed to talk to them because they fucked you over so

that's why I'm thinking in my head does Jake think I fucked him over by leaving

because today because I come from a 12-step background with my recovery

people use the word cult like way too much like people use the word cult so so

much like I think that's where Shane's getting in trouble even though I know
