S. Korean public's reaction when 'Panmunjom Declaration' was announced - Duration: 2:56.

Let's turn the spotlight to the South Korean public now... and their reaction to the inter-Korean

summit.

Around this time last year,… people were talking about Korea being on the brink of

war.

So when the two leaders vowed there would be 'a new era of peace' on the Korean Peninsula

on Friday,… it's easy to understand why many South Koreans were so excited to hear

the news.

Won Jung-hwan reports..

When the two leaders from South and North Korea announced the 'Panmunjom Declaration'

to the public on Friday,… people in the South cheered and applauded the statement.

"I'm very glad that the summit was more successful than expected.

I think it was a memorable and meaningful moment,... being able to witness how things

unfolded on such a historic day."

"I think the results are above expectations, especially because I didn't think they would

agree to an official declaration of the end of war"

"I think it's great news for the Chinese, South Koreans, and North Koreans.

I've heard there could be war several times during the 10 years that I've lived in Korea,...

and my parents have been telling me to come home.

I'm so happy with the results of the summit.

The leaders agreed to a range of measures aimed at promoting peace and reconciliation

between the divided Koreas,... including holding high-level dialogue in the near future...

and resuming family reunions on National Liberation Day on August 15th.

And there are other things some of the Korean public would like to see happen.

"Reunions of separated families should take place regularly,… but besides that,… economic,

social and cultural exchanges should also be regularly carried out following today's

successful summit.

"It was a shame to suspend tours to Mount Baekdu due to an unfortunate incident.

But I hope the momentum of increasing ties between the two Koreas could mean the tours

resume again"

As the two previous summits held between the divided Koreas in 2000 and 2007 didn't lead

to much in the long run,… there were some concerns that this agreement might end it

up like those past cases.

But some people who watched this third inter-Korean summit live on TV said that this time, things

could be different.

"Since the past summits were all held in Pyongyang,…

I felt like they were somehow one-sided meetings.

But I think I can see the positive side of the Panmunjom summit."

"The summits in the past were kind of led by North Korea,… but I see some difference

in this year's meeting between Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un at Panmunjom"

It might be too early to tell whether the joint declaration will lead to a different

result than the previous agreements between the two Koreas.

But at least for now, the Korean public can finally hope this is the start of an era of

lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Won Jung-hwan, Arirang News.

Public Works TV : EP.0025 - Celebrate! - Duration: 6:29.

Hello, and welcome to Public Works TV!

Today, we're hanging with Mr. Clean!

Before we go on, let's take a look back at our week

We started the week celebrating Earth Day

by greening and cleaning the Castro, Glen Park and other District 8 neighborhoods

at our monthly Community Clean Team volunteer work day.

We also celebrated the dedication of Sisterhood Gardens with members of the local community.

And hey! Happy Public Works Week 2018

Throughout the week,

We had open houses for local schools at our engineering and architecture offices and operations yards

We also joined together as the Public Works family to celebrate the good work

our organization does all throughout the year to take care of our great city.

Hello, and welcome to Public Works TV.

This week, we are celebrating Public Works week.

This week is very special for Public Works because not only do we open our doors out to the greater community and to various schools,

but also within the Public Works family.

Happy Public Works Week everyone

I'm John Thomas, and I'm the City Engineer for San Francisco Public Works.

if you go back to my eighth grade yearbook, it says

"What do you want to be?"

and it says, "I'm gonna be a Civil Engineer when I grow up."

So it's kind of something that I've had in the back of my mind for most of my life

and I think much of that goes back to

Kind of an intense desire to see how things work.

To take things apart to rebuild them

And kind of be involved in that sort of thing.

I've always enjoyed

Trying to solve a problem, and I find that that's that's really what we end up doing here at Public Works

That's what I think engineers are able to do for the for the people around them, and it's what makes this job so gratifying.

Hi, I'm Edgar Lopez, City Architect and happy Public Works Week!

Since I was a little kid, I enjoyed playing with toys

sketching, drawing buildings, drawing houses

At Public Works,

We have a large group of architects that are engaged in designing spaces to bring people together

From remodeling neighborhood pools,

Clinics, there's all kinds of fun projects

and each one of them is passionate about what they do.

They come to work with ideas.

They want to help people. They want to find solutions.

It's a great place to be and a great thing to do for our City.

Happy Public Works week

My name is Julia Dawson, and I'm the Deputy Director of Finance and Administration for Public Works

I knew I wanted to be in public service

But I really didn't think that I wanted to grow up and be in Finance

or in Administration or in IT or any of those things

While I was in graduate school,

I ended up

Being kind of a natural in the Budget and Finance classes

And so I kind of drifted that way and of course people always joke that I'm the money lady

And they need money to do what they need to do

And in Government,

I think that's especially true because there's a lot of controls

We spend the public's money, and it's important that we spend it in the right way.

To my team, I want to thank them

because I can't do my work without them

and they're doing a wonderful job, and I'm really proud of them

Hi everybody! Happy Public Works Week!

I'm Larry Stringer, Deputy Director of Operations for Public Works.

i started out thirty-eight years ago as a landscape maintenance worker

I spent my first two months pulling weeds and didn't know if this is the job for me

but over time,

I spent time and learned a lot of other things

You know from landscape maintenance, to tree removal

roadway maintenance, paving, operating equipment

and a lot of training

and found out that this wasn't just a job,

but it is going to turn into a career

and it did.

Operations happens to be probably the most visible part of Public Works

because staff is always out on the street.

They're always interacting with the public and it's very noticeable, what we do.

It's good to take time out to recognize

all the hard work that we all do every day

and just to say that really appreciate the effort and the work that they put in every single day

being dedicated to making San Francisco

a beautiful and also a better place.

From the bottom of my heart, I really want to thank you for doing a great job for all the people of San Francisco

We're a dynamic organization

And nothing happens in this city without touching a Public Worker

And we know that and so this week is all about celebrating Public Works Week

And I'm happy to be here and be part of the festivities.

Hope you've enjoyed this episode.

Be sure to follow us on social media to stay in the know with us,

Until next time,

Thanks for watching Public Works TV!

All these beautiful things here

This could be used like little apples and pears put on trees. That's nice.

Pink. Oh, yeah

Pink beautiful. Oh, Where's green?

We need more green cloth in here!

Ah! Nice green.

This is beautiful

This could be grass. Nice for grass.

and blue for swimming pools

nice beautiful and gray for sidewalk.

Beautiful, alright.

Five on 5 Paula Brown Ashland Public Works - Duration: 4:50.

Craig: Welcome to our Five on 5, pleased to welcome back Paula Brown, the Director of

Ashland Public Works.

Good to see you.

Paula: Nice to see you too Craig.

Craig: So, it's interesting, you've been out of the position for nearly a decade, but

back in it for the last few months.

How is that kind of getting back into it going?

Paula: You know it's one of those things everybody says 'I wish I knew then what

I know now.'

I'm there, and I get to do that.

So, it's exciting, it's an exciting time for Ashland, there's a lot going on and

I get to be a part of that and I get to help people pull things together and move things

forward.

Craig: We've got a lot to talk about today.

One of the things that, with the weather, and with the topography of Ashland and everything,

you guys have a lot of water that comes through when those storms come and through the Plaza

and those areas.

Is there, you know, water conservation in the summers, is there a solution to these

extreme problems?

Paula: Well, you know, solutions is how you manage that water.

We're always going to have water, sometimes we have more than we want and flooding happens,

we're managing those floods and we're continuing to look at solutions through storm

water management.

We continue to manage lack of water too through conservation efforts and the City of Ashland

has done quite well with conservation.

So our needs for water are there, and we'll continue to have those, but we get new opportunities

as well.

Craig: And another part of water that we'll be sure to talk about and got a lotta questions

on, is the possibility of a new water treatment plant.

Is that something you guys are seriously considering or is that a…

Paula: Absolutely, absolutely.

I think you know, our existing water treatment plant, very narrow canyon right below the

dam and we've got a lot of issues with that.

Whether it's fire, landslides, flooding, you name it.

City council has given us the nod to pursue a brand new water treatment plant, new location.

Much safer, less risky for the city and really lets us do it right and do it right for the

city as we've always done.

There's always been challenges with water.

Craig: And of course this is public process.

Where are you guys at in the timeline and in that process?

Paula: So we're just, we started the process several years ago with a smaller plant which

really isn't, doesn't meet the needs for the city of Ashland so we're looking at

a 7 and a half million gallon plant at the lower granite pit and if you're in Ashland

you know where that is, but it's not too far away, but it's out of that narrow canyon

and so we're now looking at going into pre-design for this plant and we'll continue that process.

We'll go through the city council every step of the way and as people are interested,

we'll make sure we have open houses and things like that as well.

Craig: Ok, we're gonna take a quick commercial break; we'll have much more in moment.

Stay with us.

Craig: Welcome back to our Five on 5 again we're here with Paula Brown the Director

of Ashland Public Works.

So we're talking about a new water treatment plant and how important that is for the city.

What kind of cost would we be looking at?

Paula: They're expensive, no matter what you do now construction is expensive, but

we're looking at 7 and a half million gallons, probably in the neighborhood of 22, 24, 25

million even.

We'll look at preliminary design and that's the next phase for the city council, they

will authorize that design we're out for bid soon, probably in the next couple of weeks

and then they will authorize that design process and, as I said before, authorize every step

of the way.

So we'll go through pre-design, final design, construction, all of that takes about 2 years

with all the permitting and everything that we have to do before we even start construction.

Craig: Extensive process.

So you guys are gonna be talking to the council again at that next step.

Paula: Absolutely.

And we want them.

We want our community to know, be proud of what we're doing and the decisions that

the city council and the mayor are making on behalf of the city.

Craig: Ok and what about waste water treatment?

Is that an issue going on in the city right now?

Paula: You know I started with the city with waste water in 1995 and so we're still talking

waste water too.

Craig: [Laughs] Paula: Solving the temperature problem, so

anytime you release water into streams of the United States, which we do, we all do,

temperature is a problem.

So we've got a multi-prong approach to solving the temperature problem and that's also

in front of the city council.

We're looking at outfall relocation, so taking that waste water from Ashland Creek

into Bear Creek that's one piece of it, wetlands, expanding our oxidation ditch which

is the treatment process itself and temperature credits and shading projects.

So all of those things contribute to the environment and to what Ashland really wants to do and

help the environment along too.

Craig: Alright, good to see you, thanks for being here.

Paula: Nice to see you too Craig: We appreciate it.

Stay with us, we'll be right back.

The Midvale High School 50th Reunion at The Public Theatre - Duration: 2:12.

(doo-wop music)

- Hi, my name is Mel Shrawder and I'm playing Tom Terres

in the Midvale High School 50th Reunion.

It's basically about two people coming

to their 50th reunion, for the first time.

They come alone and meet each other

and a series of memories, in which they kind of reexamine

different points in their life.

- Midvale High School 50th Reunion

is a really sweet play that has this edge to it

of when you are looking back on your life,

how do you deal with mistakes you've made

and take risks in the present.

- Everyone's gonna get something different out of it

depending on your perspective and the energy you bring

and the baggage you have.

You might be laughing hysterically

or it might be more heartfelt,

but the point is it's the full range of those emotions.

- I think people should see this play

because it's charming and you don't often see

older people who have a beginning of a romance

happen on stage.

When they've made a lot of choices in their lives

where it seems like that's not an option.

Christopher Shario is a brilliant soul.

It's a really charged, creative environment

that we're already starting to forge

and that I can see the lights in his eyes start to shine

as new things are thrown out there.

- He's a whirlwind director.

This is my third time working with him

and he's great, always positive energy.

I think someone should come see this play

because it's a beautiful story.

It's a human story.

But it's gonna resonate.

- You'll be entertained.

But you're really gonna also think about

what's important in your life.

I think the audience will walk out feeling really positive.

(doo-wop music)

Highlights - AI + Public Policy: Understanding the shift - Duration: 2:01.

Canada, as we'll hear from some speakers today, is actually in a very strong position

to lead on this front.

Both on the basic underlying research but also, I think, on some of the broader public policy

and societal applications of this technology.

Part of what we are here to do is to try and start to understand what those applications

may be – what the risks may be – but also what the benefits are.

Something that we've been looking at for a while, in partnership with Brookfield, with

other outside partners, and with different ministries, are the potential impacts that

disruptive technologies, like AI, can have on public policy.

This is a big shift, and its basically one where we are moving from thinking about using

computers to automate tasks that seem to be intelligent, in a way that requires formal

rules to ones where we are basically inducing knowledge out of vast domains of data.

Governments have tremendous amounts of data, and a lot of that's unstructured.

We need some of these tools to sort, find and understand what we have and how to make

better policy decisions.

Governments around the world are starting to ask the questions of what does it mean

for our governments, our delivery of services to our citizens, and what does AI mean to

society at large?

In a world where policy decisions are really increasingly data driven, what counts, and

who counts, and how those people are counted really matters.

There's a huge spectrum from early support and understanding all the way through recognizing

that there could be impacts that are very hard to foresee at the beginning, and dialogues

like this are a great for us to explore that whole spectrum.

After a Decade, the Truth About Barack Obama Goes Public!! - Duration: 11:17.

After a Decade, the Truth About Barack Obama Goes Public!!

Barack Obama is undoubtedly in full panic mode right now after new documents came out

that expose how he colluded with the FBI and CIA to take Donald Trump down.

Fox News reported that newly released text messages between FBI officials Peter Strzok

and Lisa Page indicate that there was a coordination between high-ranking officials at the Obama

White House, CIA, FBI, Justice Department and former Senate Democratic leadership in

the early phases of the investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign

and Russia.

GOP congressional investigators say that this new information "strongly" suggests collusion

between former President Barack Obama's Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, then-Senate

Democratic Leader Harry Reid, and CIA Director John Brennan.

The investigators added that this directly contradicts Obama administration's public

stance about its hand in the process.

On August 2, 2016, Strzok texted Page, "Make sure you can lawfully protect what you sign.

Just thinking about congress, foia, etc.

You probably know better than me."

The next day, Strzok wrote another text to Page talking about how former FBI Deputy Director

Andrew McCabe was concerned with "information control" related to the initial investigation

into the Trump campaign.

Days later, Strzok again texted Page, "Internal joint cyber cd intel piece for D, scenesetter

for McDonough brief, Trainor [head of FBI cyber division] directed all cyber info be

pulled.

I'd let Bill and Jim hammer it out first, though it would be best for D to have it before

the Wed WH session."

The GOP investigators explained that in these text messages, "D" referred to FBI Director

James Comey, and "McDonough" referred to Chief of Staff Denis McDonough.

"We are not making conclusions.

What we are saying is that the timeline is concerning enough to warrant the appointment

of an independent investigator to look at whether or not the Obama White House was involved

[in the Trump-Russia investigation]," a GOP congressional source said.

The GOP investigators also said that the CIA and FBI are supposed to be "independent

agencies," and noted that "coordination between political actors at the White House

and investigators would be inappropriate," raising questions about the level of involvement

of Obama White House officials.

Clearly, an investigation must be launched into the criminal lengths Obama went to in

the hopes of taking Trump down..
