Best CHEAP Restaurants in Washington DC - Duration: 5:37.

I'm going to tell you about my favorite inexpensive places to eat in Washington, DC.

Hello! Welcome to Trip Hacks DC, my name is Rob. I'm a tour guide here in the nation's capital. if you're coming to Washington DC

and you're looking for the best tips, tricks, and hacks for exploring the city,

make sure to subscribe to this channel and hit the bell

notification icon so that you don't miss any new videos; and if you're interested in signing up for a Trip Hacks DC tour,

head on over to www.triphacksdc.com

afterwards, to see the tours that I offer. In this video

I'm going to tell you about some of my personal favorite cheap places to eat. Before we get started,

let me just say that these are places that I

really enjoy eating, but food and restaurants is highly subjective,

so they might not be great for everybody. And Washington DC is a pretty expensive city,

so what I'm calling a "cheap eat" might not really be one back where you live.

So for the purpose of this video

I've tried to limit it down to places where you can get a meal for ten dollars or less

per person. And quick disclaimer that all of these prices are recent as of 2018.

I also picked places that are relatively easy to get to for most visitors.

So if you're also interested in some of my more obscure favorites, give this video a thumbs up so that I know there's interest in it.

And if you live in or have been to DC before and have any personal favorite places to eat,

leave a comment on this video and let everyone know what it is and why. With all of that said let's get started...

My first favorite is District Taco. This restaurant started about 10 years ago as a

single taco cart in nearby Arlington Virginia, and now they have locations all over the area.

You can get a set of three tacos, a burrito, or a burrito desnudo.

They also serve nachos and quesadillas; and on certain days of the week

fish tacos and shrimp tacos.

One of my favorite things about District Taco is the salsa bar, with salsas ranging from mild to very hot. One bonus hack for

District Taco is that while chips and guacamole usually cost extra,

if you get a meal without any meat on it,

they'll give you the guacamole for free. And if you haven't seen it yet,

make sure to check out the description where I have a video that tells you how you can save some money on places like District

Taco using the LevelUp app. My next recommendation is Good Stuff Eatery.

This is a burger restaurant owned by local celebrity chef Spike Mendelsohn, who you might recognize if you're into those food

competition shows on TV. The cool thing about Good Stuff is that you can get a sort of "celebrity chef experience" without paying the

celebrity chef prices. My personal favorite thing on the menu is the Coletti's smokehouse burger,

but if you're looking for something a little lighter, than Michelle melt, named after the former first lady, is a turkey burger

that's pretty excellent too. The burgers

here are mostly under ten bucks,

but it does get a little more expensive if you add fries and a drink.

So a useful lunch hack is that if you're traveling with a family or a group,

have everyone get their own burger and then share the fries and a shake.

The shakes are really delicious and super filling too.

My next pick, Falafel Inc, is truly the definition of a cheap eat. Falafel

sandwiches are only $3 and falafel bowls only $4. These are usually sufficient for an entire lunch,

but if you're a big eater

you can add a salad or some hummus for another $3. The six sauce options give you a chance to spice up your falafel

to your exact tastes. Now, when you go

don't be intimidated by the long line. The line moves quick because they have such a limited menu that they can move the orders really

quickly. This is also a great option

if you have vegetarians in your group because everything on the menu is vegetarian. Right now, there's just one location in Georgetown,

but keep an eye on this place because it's the kind of place

I wish I could invest in because I could see it going big very soon.

The next place on my list is &pizza because you can't have a list of cheap eats without including at least one pizza place.

Unlike the typical pizza place that has the unappetizing cold slices in the window that they heat up when you order them,

&pizza makes every single pie fresh right in front of you.

The pizzas are an interesting oval shape and honestly, they don't really fit into any kind of traditional style of pizza,

but they are a hundred percent

delicious. Most of their suggested pizzas cost right around $10

but if none of those interests you, you can build your own as well. A typical pizza could probably serve two medium hungry people or

someone who's really hungry could probably polish one off themself.

This next one on my list probably breaks my $10 rule,

but I still think it's worth it. Bub and Pop's is exactly where you want to go if you're looking for a true

mom-and-pop experience. This husband-and-wife team (and their son) prides themselves on making as much of their food as possible in-house. For me

it's worth it to splurge and get the pickle and chips on the side. One hack when you go is to try to avoid the

lunch rush on weekdays between about 11:30am and 1:30pm.

There are a lot of office buildings and hungry office workers nearby and the places delicious as this is going to draw a crowd.

And my last recommendation is a restaurant called TaKorean.

If you look closely at the name, you'll see it is a combination of the words taco and Korean.

I will be the first to admit that when I heard about this concept

I was extremely skeptical. It just didn't seem like a concept that really worked.

But I was hooked after my first bite and now I eat here all the time. Just like District Taco,

TaKorean also started as a single food truck and now has several locations in the city. One bonus hack for TaKorean is

that if you're in town on a Tuesday, they do have Taco Tuesday discounts. And that's it!

DIG DEEP // WASHINGTON MEASURE 1634 - Duration: 4:49.

Measure 1634 prevents taxes on groceries. That'll help people afford food.

In this economy, I should definitely vote YES on that.

You would think... but no.

I'm Jesse Pettibone and you're watching Dig Deep. The show where we dive into a

complicated topic and make it easier to understand. For the 2018 Election, I'll be

breaking down ballot measures in Oregon and Washington because there's some

important stuff in there. I basically just summarize Ballotpedia, a nonpartisan

fact-gathering site that talks about how measures got on the ballot, who's

funding them, and both pro and con arguments. I also share how I'll vote but I

always explain why, and at the end of the day, you can know however you want

I just want you to know what you're voting for.

Measure 1634 is a ban on a grocery tax

in Washington state. the idea is that it would help people afford groceries. this

seems like a pretty good idea except that Washington State already prohibits

taxing groceries. so like, why are we voting on it? 1634 redefines "groceries" to include

and that includes... soda.

In the last couple of election cities across the country have started trying to tax

soda and sugary beverages. and Big Beverage companies like Pepsi and Coca-Cola... hate it.

In fact, Oakland, California recently

passed a one cent soda tax. during that election Pepsi and Coke spent so much

money trying to get people to vote against it, they could have given every

citizen of Oakland $14 cold hard cash.

Well don't you look stupid. Can i buy your intelligence for $14?

Don't mind if I do. [ Narrator: and the tax still passed ]

Measure 1634 would take away our ability to tax sugary beverages in the future. but we're

not deciding whether we're going to tax them today, and we're definitely not

deciding if we're going to tax groceries... because we already forbid it. but Big

Beverage really wants to make sure we can never tax them ever which is why

they're spending so much money on this "vote yes" campaign and pretending it's about

affording groceries... which Washington already cannot tax. Did you catch that? I

just said Big Beverage is funding this campaign. that's right,

Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Keurig Dr. Pepper, and even Red Bull have spent more than eight million

dollars on this campaign to make Washington think they're voting for

affordable groceries. in case you're wondering, that's enough to give every

person in Washington $1.

Well hey there. You look stupid. Can I buy your intelligence for one whole dollar?

One dollar? that's insulting... but I'll take it.

now we definitely should have a deeper discussion about

the negative impacts that sugary beverages have on our economy through healthcare

Dig Deep 2019 episode don't forget to like and subscribe

but here's a summary:

heart disease is the number one cause of death in the US and diabetes

is number 7. and who pays for that? the taxpayers. not Pepsi and Coke. 1634 wants

to make sure the Pepsi and Coke will never pay for it and we will. if you already

think we should tax soda, your vote is an obvious "no" because if you vote yes,

we can never tax soda. but even if you're unsure, you should probably vote no and

here is my reasoning. we already don't tax groceries, so voting yes or no changes

nothing. we already have a sales tax so if you vote yes or no that also won't

change because the bill excludes any broad taxes across the state like a

sales tax. 1634 is literally just about taxing soda

If you vote YES on 1634, the only thing that

changes is cities and counties around the state can't decide to tax sugary

beverages ever unless we pass a measure to reverse this one.

If you vote NO on 1634, cities and counties would keep their ability to decide for themselves

if they want to tax sugary beverages.

mmm I love the sweet smell of communities making decisions for themselves.

If you didn't learn from all those movies growing up that corporations will destroy anything to

make a profit, or you haven't heard the many ways that Pepsi and Coke have done

that exact thing around the globe, remember that they spent eight million

dollars on this campaign right now to trick us into thinking we're voting for

affordable groceries... when we already have that law.

but I was going to give everyone one dollar

so F them, and vote NO on measure 1634 and then we can have

a discussion about whether or not we want to tax soda in a 2019 episode of

Dig Deep with some experts. But at least we'll have the ability to decide for ourselves.

Thanks for watching. if you like this video, give it a thumbs up and

don't forget to tell your friends because they need to vote too. hit

subscribe for more videos like this and don't forget to watch this entire

playlist for all of the Election 2018 explainer videos. then it's time to vote!

make sure you're registered and then you can vote by mail, drop-off, or in-person.

in order to find locations, deadlines, etc., you can go to vote.org or Google "Vote Washington"

or "Vote Oregon." happy election season, y'all.

Preview.

After losing to Auburn on opening weekend, the Huskies have rebounded nicely since, winning three consecutive games, including two against Pac-12 opponents, Utah and Arizona State.

Jake Browning was sensational against the Sun Devils, completing 15 of his 22 pass attempts for 202 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers.

Washington, up 14 points, held off Arizona State late in the fourth quarter to seal the win against head coach Herm Edwards' squad.

BYU has already turned some heads this season.

If not for getting too far behind at home against Cal, the Cougars could possibly be 4-0.

The standout win of the season so far came two weeks ago, a 24-12 upset of then-ranked No.

6 Wisconsin in Madison.

Washington head coach Chris Petersen understands the type of offense his Huskies are dealing with, and how his team needs to prepare for a slightly more run-heavy attack.

"The number one thing is, completely different than what we just saw.

I mean, 180 degrees.

On defense they're different, exact opposite (from Arizona State).

And on offense, the similarity is they really run the ball like Arizona State… But this offense is something we haven't seen and won't see again in terms of others shifts and motions and fly sweep action.".

Petersen would go on to add:.

"It's extremely unique, they do a nice job with it.

It's a little bit like option football in terms of really making you play assignment sound.

You have to do your job before you can chase the ball.

They've got a nice system off it, done a good job.".

The Cougars' rushing attack is led by Squally Canada, who has 322 yards (5.3 yards per carry) and five touchdowns this season.

The Cougars' other reliable runner, Lopini Katoa, is merely just a freshman; Katoa has 129 yards (5.6 yards per carry) and two touchdowns this season.

Washington is currently in second place in the Pac-12 North, behind undefeated Stanford, who plays at Notre Dame on Saturday.

BYU with a win could move to 4-1, but have three wins against Power Five conference opponents heading into October.
