We all know that hot water bottles can be great ways to keep you warm and also help

ease those aches and pains.

However, we may not all be so familiar with how best to look after them so that they can

last for years.

Here are my five quick tips.

Tip #1: never use boiling water and avoid domestic tap water.

Boiling water may cause burns or damage the seams, and tap water contains impurities which

may cause degrade the rubber.

Instead we recommend boiling water first to remove impurities and then waiting until the

water has cooled to a safe temperature – often after 15 minutes.

Tip #2.

When finished using remember to empty the water contents from your hot water bottle

as water left inside may contain impurities that can degrade the hot water bottle.

Tip #3.

Don't leave hot water bottles out as small children and pets such as dogs may start chewing

it which could not only damage or degrade the hot water bottle but could also pose a

choking risk.

Tip #4.

When not in use remove the stopper and store the hot water bottle away from direct sources

of heat or sunlight.

A cupboard, drawer or wardrobe is ideal but avoid airing cupboards, boiler cupboards or

heat sources such as radiators.

Also avoid putting anything on top.

Continued fluctuations in temperature can adversely affect the bottle.

Tip #5.

Only buy top quality hot water bottles which meet the relevant safety standards, for instance,

British Safety Standards which is an internationally-recognised standard.

This should be evidenced by a symbol on your bottle which looks like a daisy.

So that's it –my 5 quick tips for looking after your hot water bottle to ensure that

it lasts a long time.

Want to know exactly how much money I make? - Duration: 3:05.

Recently a number of cities and states have passed laws that ban employers from

asking candidates for their salary history as part of the employment

screening and interviewing process. At the same time a new study on millennial

pay found that young workers are four times more likely than baby boomers to

talk with their co-workers about the specifics of their salary, raises and

promotions. In both instances the moves are intended to address wage gaps

between equally qualified candidates. Fifty-four years after the United States

passed the Equal Pay Act, female workers still earn an average of 79 cents for

every dollar earned by their male colleagues. By removing current pay as a

benchmark in new hiring decisions or encouraging co-workers to provide

specific benchmark information to their friends on the job, advocates hope that

disparities will be eliminated. Yet I wonder if asking about someone's current

salary it's necessary in either situation. As a hiring manager I'm less

interested in knowing what someone has made historically as I am in knowing

what their current wage requirement is going to be to take the job. Even in the

hiring of salespeople who routinely provide w-2s as evidence

of their past success, I'm most interested in knowing what compensation

it's going to take to get that person to join my team. If I can afford it

I'm willing to meet the demand at even the high end of my range. But I also know

that if the person's on-the-job performance doesn't live up to

heightened expectations we're going to be having a very difficult conversation

around their continued employment sooner than we might have otherwise. Within the

workplace I can also understand why workers might be interested in knowing

how their pay stacks up to that of a peer. Yet as a leader I also know that there

are some employees who may have skills that justify higher pay which aren't as

visible to others or who may be paid as a result of legacy decisions that the

company no longer wants to repeat - and which they're actively trying to reverse.

So simply knowing that there's a disparity in pay doesn't tell the whole

story and it's bound to create jealousy and conflict over what is often a very

minor gap. This is not to say that there's no place where wage

information is important to discuss. Last year LinkedIn launched a salary tool

which provides workers with salary benchmarks that are based on the

anonymously-shared data from its membership. This tool, and others like it

can provide invaluable information for determining what someone should be

asking for in the salary negotiation process. Similarly, high performing

organizations have identified salary bands that identify the high and low end

of the appropriate compensation range for each of their jobs and they use this

information in ongoing conversations with employees around promotions and

career paths. Yet I'm curious to hear your views. I've created a posting

on LinkedIn where I'd love to hear your experiences with conversations around

compensation in your own career. So head on over to the site and let me know if

there's been value in having these sorts of conversations or if they've caused

more harm than good for you personally. Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Bar Design Ideas and Tips - How To Design An Arcade Bar - Duration: 4:22.

Hey, Rick Uzubell again from Cabaret Design Group, talking today about

Bar Design Ideas And Tips - 'How To Design An Arcade Bar.' Coming up!

and gift ideas, and if you're new here, definitely subscribe!

How do you design an arcade bar? Discover how marketing and material selection form the core of the

design concepts that can separate your bar from the competition. Stay tuned!

People are always asking what are the best ideas and tips for designing a bar.

Several months ago, another soon-to-be client asked the same question for an

arcade bar he was planning in Reno, Nevada. Honestly, we had never designed such a

project, but the truth is there's a universal approach that works with most

successful bar design projects we've seen: any successful bar design project

is rooted in a strong marketing identity. To me, all well-designed commercial bars

have a common thread: they appear to be strongly-branded. The next time you're in

a stylish commercial bar, make note of the decor. Every component within the bar

appears with consistent branding. This includes the bar itself, the menus,

signage, etc. A very good case study would be Buffalo Wild Wings, which also

includes the company website, building exterior and interior, as shown in these

photos. In our example, our client made a sage choice when he decided to hire a

professional marketing firm to set his corporate identity.

In fact, at the time of our meeting, our client was actually in the process of

evaluating the many options his marketing professionals had laid-out for him.

To be honest, this process can be overwhelming -- as good marketing people

will commonly lay-out many great ideas. A few of the ideas he was weighing are

shown in these photos. I was extended the privilege of being asked to assist with

my recommendation. It was obvious to me that the ultimate branding selection

should tie strongly with the materials we were intending to use for the bar finishes.

Fortunately, we had a very good experience with a company whose

offerings seemed like a natural fit for the project at hand.

Lumi-Graf, a Canadian manufacturer of fine decorative resin panels, has a wide

selection of products that seemed appropriate.

In fact, Lumi-Graf offers so many patterns and colors that it can be

challenging at times to select the right one. After reviewing dozens of ideas, I

found what appeared to be the match for our project, as seen in these photos.

I arranged to have our client's artwork sent to Lumi-Graf so we could evaluate

real-life samples, and here's what we got: a bull's-eye! Everyone was very excited --

the client, the marketing people and myself. The next goal was to lay-out the

ideas onto the bar and the back bar designs, as seen in this plan.

For the countertop and bar footrest design, we chose architectural metal --

stainless steel by Rigidized Metals Corporation in Buffalo, New York.

And here we are today, with photos of the finished bar. Everyone felt like we'd hit a

home run, and I agree. But it all took teamwork: an owner with a strong

commitment and a very good marketing firm. We all think Press Start will enjoy

a great deal success. A special thanks to our client, John Simpson, for including us

in this project, and a special shout-out to Matt McIver

of Lexalt & McIver, whose link is provided below.
