Washington's new special envoy for North Korea will soon be visiting America's allies in

Northeast Asia.

With some critics questioning his fit for the job given his lack of diplomatic experience,...

there's attention on whether he can break the stalemate between North Korea and the

U.S. Lee Ji-won has this story.

South Korean news outlets are reporting that Stephen Biegun will soon embark on a trip

to Northeast Asia, which will include stops in Seoul and Tokyo.

This will be his first time in the region as the new U.S. special envoy for North Korea

since he assumed the role last month.

His South Korean counterpart is the special representative for Korean Peninsula Peace

and Security Affairs in the foreign affairs ministry, Lee Do-hoon.

Biegun previously served as an Executive Secretary of the National Security Council, a foreign

policy advisor to members of Congress and was an executive at Ford Motor Company.

While critics of the administration claim he's unsuitable for the position, considering

how he was focused for much of his career on Europe,... some beg to differ.

CNBC cited Brett Bruen, a former director of global engagement at the White House as

saying Biegun may have the "precise quality that's needed during the fraught negotiations"

-- the ability to talk with President Donald Trump.

Bruen says no one in the State Department has the ability to convey the complexity of

the denuclearization negotiations to the president in a way that he understands and will go along

with.

The former New Mexico governor and UN ambassador, Bill Richardson said Biegun's skills at Ford

will come in handy,... but he should also learn the North Koreans' negotiating style

-- which Richardson called wily.

He also suggested the two words Biegun should remember during his talks with the North are

"timelines" and "verification".

With the denuclearization process between Pyongyang and Washington seemingly at a standstill,...

it remains to be seen whether Biegun's trip to Asia can move the needle forward.

Kapri Bibbs among eight players signed to Redskins practice squad - Duration: 2:12.

Kapri Bibbs during Washington's third preseason game. (Alex Brandon/AP) By Les Carpenter September 2 at 5:58 PM A day after Redskins Coach Jay Guden lamented cutting running back Kapri Bibbs, the team added Bibbs to its practice squad, with the possibility of adding him to its 53-man roster later in the week

Bibbs, who Gruden said Saturday night "had done everything right" through training camp, was cut as part of a backfield numbers crunch created when Washington signed Adrian Peterson two weeks ago

The Redskins kept five running backs when they made their final cuts on Saturday, but one of those players, Byron Marshall, will probably be placed on injured reserve with a sprained MCL

Gruden hinted on Sunday that the Redskins might sign Bibbs to the practice squad with the intent of moving him up to the 53-man roster later this week if Marshall goes on injured reserve

[Redskins 53-man roster analysis: Washington hopes injury issues won't deplete depth again] Bibbs, who played parts of three seasons with the Broncos and Redskins, is popular in the locker room and played well in the preseason, carrying 13 times for 106 yards and leading the team with 13 catches for another 119 yards

There seemed a sentiment around the organization that coaches and executives wanted to find a way to keep him on the team, so much so that he still had a stall in the team's locker room on Sunday

Joining Bibbs on the practice squad are receivers Simmie Cobbs Jr. and Darvin Kidsy, tight end Matt Flanagan, tackle Timon Parris, defensive tackle JoJo Wicker, linebacker Cassanova McKinzy and defensive back Kenny Ladler

All were let go in Saturday's round of roster cuts. One player Washington apparently hoped to bring back was reserve quarterback Kevin Hogan, the McLean native who starred at Washington's Gonzaga in high school

Hogan, cut on Saturday, also still had a stall in the team's locker room Sunday, but he was claimed by the Denver Broncos, who have apparently made him their third-string quarterback after releasing former first-round pick Paxton Lynch

The Redskins have room to sign at least two more players to the practice squad (three if Bibbs moves to the active roster)

Most teams who keep just two quarterbacks, as Washington did, put a third quarterback on their practice squad

Obama, Bush mourn former rival McCain at Washington service.

Former US presidents Barack Obama and George W.

Bush gathered with thousands of fellow mourners on Saturday to honor the late John McCain, the longtime Arizona senator and Vietnam war hero whose bids for the White House were dashed by the two men.

McCain's body, which had lain in state at the US Capitol, arrived at the Washington National Cathedral after his motorcade first stopped at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, where his wife, Cindy McCain, laid a wreath to honor those who died in the war.

Members of the military slowly carried McCain's coffin into the cathedral, past friends and loved ones who have counted among the top power players in U.S.

politics for decades.

Conspicuously absent was Republican President Donald Trump.

McCain asked Obama and Bush, a Democrat and a Republican, to deliver eulogies at his service, in what was seen as a final message to the country about his wish for bipartisanship.

The statesman and former prisoner of war died Aug.

25 of brain cancer, days shy of his 82nd birthday.

Trump, who feuded with McCain and criticized his war record, spent the morning sending tweets about other subjects.

As he did so, top members of his administration including his daughter Ivanka, son-in-law Jared Kushner, chief of staff John Kelly and national security adviser John Bolton were present at the solemn cathedral service.

McCain's family had made clear that Trump was not welcome at memorial services in Arizona and Washington or at Sunday's private burial service in Annapolis, Maryland, at the U.S.

Naval Academy.

McCain was a member of the Academy's Class of 1958.

Inside the cathedral, guests included former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, comedian Jay Leno, former Senator Bob Dole and others joined together to honor McCain while a powerful pipe organ and brass ensemble played in the background.

McCain was a leading voice for revamping the country's immigration, campaign finance and environmental laws.

But it was his military service, punctuated by years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam, that molded McCain's political life.

McCain, who rose to the rank of captain in the U.S.

Navy, was shot down over Hanoi while on a bombing mission in 1967.

Held as a prisoner until 1973, McCain was tortured by his North Vietnamese captors in a jail that Americans dubbed the "Hanoi Hilton."  .
