"So, the main problem a lot of us have when trying to get work done is our lack of motivation.
We know we should get to it, and we know that we should start getting to it 'now'.
But even after building ourselves up and creating a spark of energy in our bodies, our motivation
is only enough to open Microsoft Word, pretend to start getting what we need to complete then quickly
thinking or doing something else.
We simply lack the motivation to complete easy tasks.
So how can we change this downward spiral that's eating up at our motivation?
What can we do differently, and what terrible habits get we get rid of.
In this video I'm going to be going over common habits which are destroying our motivation.
Let me know in the comments down below if there are any habits which you can relate to. So lets get started with
Habit Number 1 - Unplug yourself from technology Now let's be honest, technology is amazing.
But how often have you found yourself scrolling through the likes of Instagram and facebook
until you have checked nearly every person you follow story to then somehow find yourself watching
a random documentary about what the world will be like in 50 years time?
It's just not productive and that is eating up at our motivation.
What Id suggest is try downloading an app which tracks the amount of time you spend
on your phone.
It will give you information such as how many times you've checked your phone and how long
you've spent on individual apps.
If you're anything like me you'd be shocked at the amount of time you've actually wasted on your phone.
So If you know that you've got something very very serious to be doing, you need to disconnect
yourself from all technology that's not essential for that task at hand.
Video games, phones, the internet.
Get rid of them all.
You need the energy and motivation to get work done and stay productive.
So switch it off.
Welcome back.
Common habit number 2 which could be affecting your motivation and drive is not setting goals
or deadlines.
If you don't have an end date or a deadline then you have no reason or purpose to get
something done.
Meaning your motivation to complete it won't be there.
If you set yourself goals or even rewards to get a task done within a certain period
of time, this will instantly increase your motivation.
An example of this is something which my 2 of my friends did last summer.
They wanted to get into better shape for a summer holiday.
They both set the goal of performing 30 minutes of cardio every single day and had to do this
for 30 days.
If they missed just one day they owed the other person £100.
Setting rewards and goals both gave them the motivation to achieve their goal as neither
wanted to hand over £100 for missing a days exercise.
Which bring me nicely onto Habit number 3.
Habit number 3 which is affecting your motivation is the people you surround yourself with.
I'm not going to lie.
It's fun having fun friends.
The types who want you to have to go out, do crazy things or sometimes just chill out
after a hard day at school or work.
And I'm sure that right now I run the risk of sounding like your parents.
But I must say that there are a time and place for everything.
If you know that you've got to get that work done by tonight, it's probably not
the best day of the week for you to hit the town and your friends need to know and accept
that.
Surround yourself with people who want you to succeed not people who could make you fail.
Habit Number 4 Is not being aware of the time you are wasting.
To counter this common habit which is killing your motivation and drive I would get yourself
out to the shops to buy a notepad or diary.
Make a note of the things you do throughout the day and what exactly it is which is leaving
you not motivation to complete the tasks.
Once you start to become aware of exactly what it is you can then put a plan in place
to counter this.
If I use myself an example, I love to work from coffee shops.
The reason I work from coffee shops is ecause I find it unproductive to work whilst I'm
at home.
I have my dog, my TV and the freedom to just be able to do what I want.
When at a coffee shop I know its time to work.
The point is is I addressed that working at home just wasn't working.
I had no motivation to get anything done.
Address the situation then come up with a plan to make it work.
Habit Number 5 - Speak to your friends about your struggles.
An awesome way to get the drive to get to work and increase your motivation is when
you turn it into a competition with your friends.
Use each other as positive influences to get things done.
Go to the library together, set projects and tasks which you can get completed together.
Become accountable for each other.
Habit number 6 is not switching up your routine.
In life, we get comfortable and settle in our ways.
It's this comfort that makes it so hard for us to shake off the bad habits that have
latched on to us.
One of the first habits I would say that is setting us up for a bad day which I know a
lot of people do, and yes, myself included is..
Hitting the Snooze button.
If you've set yourself the goal to get up at 7 o'clock and the first thing you do
is hit the snooze button, you've instantly told your mind that its acceptable to not
achieve your goals.
You set your alarm with the intention of getting up at a certain time.
If the first thing you do is fail at that goal your motivation and drive to achieve
other goals throughout the day just may not be there.
What id suggest is buying an alarm or placing your phone across the room.
That way when your alarm walks off.
Your mind knows it has to walk across the room thus kickstarting your brain to wake
up and start the day instead of falling back to sleep.
That being said.
It's easy to turn it off and dive back into bed for an extra 15 minutes.
But don't, you'll only kick yourself later in the day for it.
Trying to get rid of habits that have ingrained themselves into our lives is not an easy task,
but it's not impossible.
By addressing the problem and putting a plan in place to counter it each and every day
you will soon begin to find your motivation again.
Change those habits that are blocking your productivity and motivation, switch up your
routines and potentially the people you surround yourself with.
