With all these buildings behind me, you may be wondering where I filmed this speech.

You are looking at the beautiful city of Pittsburgh.

Good day.

I am Gil Isaac Escaño Gabriel.

I'm currently a sophomore at City Charter High School, located here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

I used to study at Falcon Early College High School in Odessa, which gave me the opportunity

to study at UTPB.

I then moved here to Pittsburgh last December of 2017.

I resided in Odessa for about 6 months.

Before that, I lived in Alberta, Canada, and before moving to Canada, I lived in the Philippines.

It was exciting to be moving from place to place, but it was also exhausting because

we drove all the way from Canada to Texas, and from Texas to Pennsylvania.

Introduction to Public Speaking is my second course here at UTPB.

I enrolled in this class because I want to improve my communication skills.

I want to become an Urban Planner, where communication is important;

urban planners communicate with

government officials, community members, and other groups of people, to assess issues and

goals of a certain community.

I believe that it is essential to address your communication skills as early as possible

because it will be harder to break bad habits later on,

and that is why I enrolled myself in this class.

I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Kirkland City Spotlight #2 - Councilmember Penny Sweet - Investment in Public Safety - Duration: 2:04.

The city invests in Public Safety in so very many ways. We go through a huge

process every year identifying the most important things, two of the most

important things of course are the way that we treat Fire and the way that we

treat our Police services. So it always remains an incredibly important element

of what we do with our budget. But there is Public Safety elements and everything

else we do as well. In you know making sure that we provide adequate water

services, roads, transportation all of that is related to public safety issues.

They're all important and they all kind of go into the mix that we put together

in order to to create our budget. One of the things that has come out really

predominantly this year is the whole issue of gun safety. We've done a number

of public outreach projects around identifying what the community wants, it

needs, around gun safety. We're going to continue to do that. One of the other

things that's very critical is our ProAct unit. That is a unit of about five

individuals who work specifically around trying to identify the elements and the

people involved in crime. The car break-ins, the house break-ins, the theft

off of people's front steps. Public Safety is the primary responsibility of

city government and we take it very seriously.

In Kirkland over the course of the nine years almost ten that I've been on the

City Council I've been incredibly impressed with the process that we use

around budget. So the bottom line is we've got a budget to put together and

we need help. So give us your ideas. Give us your thoughts. Let us know what you're

thinking. We do this for you. This is our community.
