Exhausted Delivery Driver Crashes Into Three Ferraris, Public Rushes To Help Him Pay The Damages - Duration: 3:59.
An overworked 20-year old man from Taiwan received enormous amounts of sympathy from the public after having fallen asleep at the wheel and hitting three stationary Ferrari supercars
As a restaurant worker with a monthly salary of 35,000 Taiwan dollars ($1,136), Lin Chin-hsiang would have needed 28 years to pay for the damages, which according to local media were worth a total of 12 million Taiwan dollars, or $390,000
Help from the public Since the story broke, he received nothing but support from his fellow peers, who began donating money in order to help him pay off what at first seemed like an insurmountable sum
The public's response reflected Taiwan's growing dissatisfaction with the widening wealth gap
Also, the fact that he wasn't under the influence of alcohol and had a clean driving record definitely helped too, as it brought the focus back on the fact that he was simply very tired after working night shifts at a barbecue restaurant
Apparently, after arriving home at around 3:00 AM this past Sunday, he decided to help his mom (who wasn't feeling wheel) and went out on another delivery to a nearby temple
Unfortunately, he fell asleep as the wheel at around 5:40 AM and crashed into three Ferraris
The luxury supercars belonged to a group of friends who were out for a scenic drive.Thankfully they were standing by their vehicles and nobody was injured during the incident
"I thought: 'Oh no, I've gotten myself into a big mess.'I was really worried about bringing trouble to my mother and having to pay so much money
I wanted to help her, but made things worse," said Lin during an interview with the BBC earlier this week.He went on to say: "I'm really grateful to everyone who has offered to help and who has come here to encourage me
Some people even drove up from central Taiwan and asked me where they can donate money. Some spent a long time looking for our shop, some are not in good situation, but they still gave money
" "Some people gave 5,000 ($160) or 10,000 ($325).They just said 'In the future, you just have to help society
" Since then, local authorities have asked people willing to donate money to do so by directing funds to an official account
So far, more than 100 donations have been made, with the smallest ones equaling some $4 and the largest nearly $6,500
A total of 740,000 Taiwan dollars ($24,000) have been raised.Meanwhile, multiple people on social media called on the Ferrari owners to forgive the 20-year old and forget about the money, considering his financial circumstances
However, one Ferrari owner stated publicly that since he worked very hard to buy his car, he would want to be compensated for the damages
Still, according to Mr Lin, the Ferrari owners were generally kind and did not insist that he pay what he owes all at once, but rather in installments
"I'm really sorry to have hit their cars, really sorry. It wasn't intentional… Even though it will take a long time, I committed a wrong

Rugby turning into an elite public school game, says Richard Cockerill - Duration: 5:06.
Richard Cockerill claims rugby is becoming increasingly public school dominated after Ellis Genge sparked a debate about the sport's class prejudice
In an interview with The Mail on Sunday last week, Genge claimed rugby is failing to offer equal opportunities to working class talent
Cockerill, who is now coach of Edinburgh, signed Genge to Leicester in 2016 and believes scholarships at a select group of schools are compounding the problem
'The game is turning slowly into a public school game, isn't it?' said Cockerill
'Guys get scholarships to go to the best schools because they're good at rugby. That's not their fault
We're all trying to better ourselves, aren't we?'If Gengey had been offered a scholarship at Oakham or Uppingham, maybe he would have taken it – and stolen all the cutlery!'Gengey is unique because he's come from a relatively under-privileged background and he's a tough bugger who could have gone either way
' Record Premiership try-scorer Tom Varndell could be offered a lifeline by Leicester
The Gain Line understands the winger, who played for the club between 2004 and 2009, is likely to be released by Soyaux Angouleme XV Charente in France's ProD2
No deal has been signed but Leicester are looking for injury cover after losing star full-back Telusa Veainu
Joseph in the shop windowEngland and Bath centre Jonathan Joseph has been offered to a host of Premiership clubs for £350,000 a year
Wasps could be keen on the 27-year-old, who is on the verge of returning from a longterm injury, if another England international, Elliot Daly, opts to join Saracens after the World Cup
The Gain Line understands Joseph, who was born in the East Midlands, has also been touted to Leicester

Goode plays a blinder -mad full-back Alex Goode is storming away with the Saracens fantasy league
The 30-year-old's team, Pique Blinders, is more than 50 points ahead of Richard Wigglesworth's side, Fred's a Red, and Jackson Wray named his line-up Everyone vs Goode
Goode was in Ipswich Town's academy before turning to rugby. Toby Flood wants to keep playing into the second half of his 30s but a move to Japan is not on his radar
The 33-year-old fly-half has another season remaining on his Newcastle contract and said: 'If the body's feeling the way it is now, then I'll keep throwing my hat in the ring
It's a big ask to go to Japan.'It's a shock to the system lifestyle wise. Never say never but it's not something I'm gearing up to do

How government shutdown could affect public health CNN - Duration: 0:49.
How government shutdown could affect public health CNN
At midnight Friday, , including the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, Interior, State and Housing and Urban Development.
Theres no guarantee that lawmakers can come up with a plan that President Donald Trump will support to extend the rapidly approaching deadline. Meanwhile, a appears to be likely.
An administration official told CNN that "If a lapse in appropriations were to take place, a majority of [Homeland Security] activities would continue. For instance, those protecting our borders with the customs and Border Patrol will continue to do so.
"Additionally, activities that are supported by multi year funding, such as [the Federal Emergency Management Agencys] Disaster Relief Fund, will continue operations."
The referred questions to its .
The plan says that "HHS contingency plans for agency operations in the absence of appropriations for Agriculture and Interior would lead to retaining approximately 24,927 staff and furloughing 7,997 staff as of day two of a near term funding hiatus. Put another way, more than 76 percent of HHS employees would be retained and 24 percent would be furloughed."
Since most of the agencys operating divisions were funded through fiscal year 2019 by the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education appropriation which represents about 60 percent of staff overall the contingency plans would be for only the divisions and programs funded through the Agriculture and Interior appropriations, according to the department.
Emergency responses and high risk recalls to continue
From a health perspective, the impact is expected to be minimal, said Art Caplan, a professor and founding head of the division of bioethics at in New York.
After all, if a shutdown were to take place, it would be limited in scope because lawmakers have funded roughly 75 percent of the federal government through September.
"Its serious, but its narrow, because its only a partial shutdown," Caplan said, adding that for the general public, worrying would be pointless.
"If theres a shutdown for a few days, the biggest concern will be the impact on the families of the workers who are going to be furloughed," said Dr. Irwin Redlener, director of Columbia Universitys National Center for Disaster Preparedness and a professor in the universitys .
"In the short term, Im not very worried much about the public health impact, but every day that passes presents a new threat that something will happen that could have been prevented if the government was functioning at full throttle," he said.
For the Department of Health and Human Services, among the are Indian Health Service clinics, response efforts from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and specific activities under the Food and Drug Administration, including responding to emergencies and managing high risk recalls.
In the case of a recall or outbreak, "FDA inspection is at the core of both finding out about those things, but more importantly, tracing them, triggering state agencies and other groups to figure out how extensive is the outbreak, and where did it start and how can it be stopped," Caplan said. "Having FDA off the food beat is always very dangerous."
Caplan added that the Environmental Protection Agency also plays a key role in coordinating disaster responses to chemical spills and other toxic accidents. The in place in the event of a shutdown.
Well get through this
Health and Human Services activities that would not continue include the majority of funding to Tribes and Urban Indian Health Programs, some grant awards under the National Institutes of Health, some resources from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry that are not related to protecting lives and limiting the spread of disease, and some routine regulatory and compliance activities under the FDA, including routine establishment inspections and ongoing research work.
When it comes to the National Institutes of Health, "I dont think were going to see much in terms of impact of the research component here because grants that have already been made wont be affected. But evaluation of new research proposals may be delayed during the shutdown, though Im not sure how consequential that is," Redlener said.
"NIH also has a very sizable health service for people who have not been successfully treated with conventional modalities and are on research protocols, often as a last ditch effort to be cured and thats obviously very meaningful," he said. "Patients already in the system will continue to get care during a shutdown. But NIH will likely stop admitting new patients for the duration of the shutdown."
All in all, "otherwise, from a public health point of view, well get through this," he said.
