>> WE CAN SPOT THE INTERNATIONAL

SPACE STATION FROM OUR BACKYARD,

AND ALL WE NEED TO KNOW IS WHEN

AND WHERE TO LOOK.

LET'S START BY GOING TO THE NASA

WEBSITE.

THIS WILL GIVE US ALL OF THE

INFORMATION WE NEED.

NOW, LET'S TRY TO SPOT THE

STATION.

WE SEE ON THIS PATH THE STATION

WILL BECOME VISIBLE AT NORTH

NORTHWEST AT 8:32 P.M.

LET'S BE SURE WE ARE ON TIME,

BECAUSE THE SPACE STATION WON'T

WAIT.

FIRST, LET'S USE OUR COMPASS TO

FIND WEST.

NOW FIND NORTH.

NORTHWEST IS BETWEEN NORTH AND

WEST.

NORTH, NORTHWEST IS BETWEEN WEST

AND NORTH.

OKAY.

GOT IT.

NEXT WE SEE IT'S A GOING TO

DISAPPEAR IN THE EAST.

GOT THAT LOCATION.

THE ENTIRE VISIBLE PATH WILL

HAPPEN BETWEEN THESE TWO

LOCATIONS.

NOW HEIGHT IS MEASURED IN

DEGREES.

THERE'S A SIMPLE WAY TO

DETERMINE THIS HEIGHT.

IF YOU PLACE THE BOTTOM OF YOUR

FIST ON THE HORIZON, THE LINE

WHERE THE SKY MEETS THE GROUND,

THE TOP OF YOUR FIST WILL BE

APPROXIMATELY 10 DEGREES.

YOU CAN THEN STACK YOUR FISTS ON

TOP OF EACH OTHER TO REACH, 20,

30, 40 DEGREES OR HIGHER.

TONIGHT THE SPACE STATION WILL

APPEAR AT 10 DEGREES NORTH

NORTHWEST.

IF I PLACE ONE FIST IN FRONT OF

ME, WHILE LOOKING NORTH

NORTHWEST, THIS IS WHERE IT

SHOULD FIRST BECOME VISIBLE.

GOT IT.

IT WILL DISAPPEAR AT 20 DEGREES

EAST.

RIGHT THERE.

AT ITS HIGHEST POINT, IT WILL

REACH 40 DEGREES.

BINGO.

WE NOW HAVE A GOOD IDEA OF THE

APPROXIMATE PATH THAT THE SPACE

STATION WILL BE TRAVELING ALONG.

IT'S ALMOST TIME.

LET'S LOOK IN THE GENERAL

DIRECTION OF WHERE THE PATHS

WILL BECOME VISIBLE.

WE WILL SCAN A WIDER AREA IN

CASE WE ARE A LITTLE OFF WITH

OUR MEASUREMENTS.

THE STATION DOES NOT HAVE LIGHTS

OUTSIDE THAT ARE VISIBLE FROM

EARTH.

WHEN WE SEE IT, WE ARE SEEING

THE SUN REFLECTING OFF OF IT.

ONCE THE STATION BECOMES

VISIBLE, IT WILL TAKE ABOUT SIX

MINUTES TO CROSS ACROSS THE SKY.

IT WILL LOOK LIKE A VERY BRIGHT

STAR THAT IS TRAVELING VERY FAST

ACROSS THE SKY.

HERE IT COMES.

WAVE TO THE ASTRONAUTS. MEET YO.

>> THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR

STEALING MY PHONE AND TAKING

SELFIES.

>> WHILE WE WERE IN HOUSTON WE

GOT A CHANCE TO DO A LOT OF

DIFFERENT THINGS, BESIDE WORKING

WITH COMRADE BRESNIK, WE GOT A

CHANCE TO SEE HIM DO VIRTUAL

REALITY TRAINING.

WHICH WAS ONE OF THE SCARIEST

THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN.

BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH HE WAS JUST

SITTING IN THIS CHAIR WITH

GOGGLES ON, THEY REHEARSED WHAT

WOULD HAPPEN IF HE DRIFTED AWAY

FROM THE EMERGENCY SPACE

STATION.

JUST THE THOUGHT OF THAT IS

INCREDIBLY SCARY, AND IN OCTOBER

HE WILL BE DOING TWO OR THREE

SPACE WALKS.

>> THE OTHER THING THAT WAS NEAT

TO SEE WHEN WE WENT TO JOHNSON

SPACE CENTER WAS THEY HAVE A

SATURN V ROCKET.

AND IT'S HUGE, BUT WHAT IS

INCREDIBLE IS THERE'S ONLY A

TINY PART THAT ACTUALLY COMES

BACK.

>> YEAH, WE'RE ABOUT ONE MINUTE

FROM GETTING THE SIGNAL FROM THE

INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION.

THE CRAZY PART ABOUT THAT ROCKET

IS IT'S HUGE, BUT THE COMMAND

MODULE WITHOUT FIT HERE IN THIS

GALLERY.

>> AND THEY ARE GETTING READY TO

GO TO SPACE CENTER HOUSTON, AND

THE APOLLO 11 MODULE, BROUGHT

THE FIRST ASTRONAUTS THAT WALKED

ON THE MOON BACK, BUT THEY ALSO

HAVE APOLLO 17 MODULE, WHICH WAS

THE LAST TO BRING ASTRONAUTS

BACK.

SO YOU GET TO SEE THE FIRST AND

THE LAST.

>> THE ONLY TIME YOU GET TO SEE

TWO OF THEM IN THE SAME

BUILDING.

IT'S REALLY, REALLY COOL.

WE'RE GETTING REALLY CLOSE TO

THE DOWN LINK STARTING.

SO WE SHOULD BE SEEING MISSION

CONTROL REAL QUICK.

[ APPLAUSE ]BE.

AND [ INAUDIBLE ] 25,000

[ INAUDIBLE ].

>> HI, MY NAME IS LUKE BERKELEY,

AND IS IT HARD TO MOVE AROUND

THE SPACE STATION?

>> IT'S EASY TO MOVE AROUND.

I DON'T KNOW, YOU TELL ME.

[ LAUGHTER ]

>> WHAT DO YOU THINK?

WE ALSO KID AROUND.

[ LAUGHTER ]

>> SO DO YOU THINK?

PRETTY EASY TO MOVE AROUND?

>> HI, MY NAME IS [ INAUDIBLE ].

CAN YOU WATCH TV AND YOUTUBE IN

SPACE?

>> WE CAN WATCH TV.

WE -- THEY SEND US UP TVS AND

MOVIES.

AND WE WATCH IT ON A COMPUTER.

WE ALSO HAVE A BIG SCREEN THAT

WE CAN WATCH MOVIES ON FRIDAY

NIGHT.

YOUTUBE, THE INTERNET CAPABILITY

IS UP HERE, BUT I HAVEN'T TAKEN

THE TIME TO LOOK AT ANY YOUTUBE

STUFF.

I'LL SAVE THAT WHEN I GET BACK

DOWN ON THE GROUND AND I DON'T

HAVE THE MAGNIFICENT VIEW OF

EARTH THAT WE HAVE UP HERE.

>> HI, MY NAME IS IS EMILY.

MY QUESTION IS HOW DOES WATER

ACT IN SPACE?

>> THAT IS A GREAT QUESTION.

WHY DON'T WE FIND OUT.

HERE IS ONE OF OUR DRINK BAGS.

THIS IS APPLE CIDER.

ALL RIGHT.

WE HAVE TO HAVE A LOCK ON THE

STRAW.

OTHERWISE THE WATER WOULD COME

OUT.

NOW ON EARTH, LIKE WHEN IT

RAINS, YOUR RAIN JACKET OR THE

WINDOW ON YOUR CAR, THE WATER

DOESN'T JUST FALL OFF, RIGHT,

SOME OF IT STICKS, RIGHT?

AND YOU SEE DROPPETS ON WINDOWS

BECAUSE SURFACE TENSION OF THE

WATER HOLDS IT IN PLACE.

I'LL SHOW YOU WHAT SURFACE

TENSION DOES UP HERE.

[ LAUGHTER ]

>> THE WATER ALL STICKS TO

ITSELF AND FORMS A BUBBLE.

SO WHEN WE EXERCISE THE WATER

STICKS ALL OVER OUR FACE AND WE

HAVE TO WIPE IT OFF WITH A

TOWEL.

YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO

SHAKE YOUR HEARD TOO HARD OR THE

WATER GOES FLYING OFF.

>> MY NAME IS DELANEY, AND I WAS

WONDERING, WHEN DO YOU KNOW WHAT

TIME TO GO TO BED?

>> ANOTHER GOOD QUESTION.

WE DON'T KNOW WHEN IT IS TIME TO

GO TO BED, BECAUSE THE SUN GOES

DOWN 16 TIMES A DAY FOR US.

SO WE HAVE TO USE OUR WATCHES TO

TELL US WHEN IT'S TIME TO GO TO

BED.

SAME THING, YOU KNOW, YOU DON'T

WAKE UP WHEN THE SUN COMES UP,

BECAUSE THAT HAPPENS 16 TIMES

TOO.

SO WE USE OUR WATCHES, WE HAVE A

WORK TEAM, WE HAVE EXERCISE, AND

THEN USUALLY WE GET INTO BED A

LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO BRUSH OUR

TEETH, CALL HOME, WATCH A LITTLE

BIT OF TV, AND THEN WE GO TO

SLEEP AND START THE NEXT DAY.

>> HI, WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR

FREE TIME IN SPACE?

>> I ALREADY MENTIONED WE HAVE

GOT THIS AMAZING BLUE MARBLE

UNDERNEATH US, SO WE'RE GOING

AROUND 16 TIMES A DAY, OR 6

MILES EVERY SECOND IS WHAT WE'RE

COVERING OVER THE GROUND, AND IT

IS REALLY BEAUTIFUL.

SO IN MY FREE TIME, IT'S A LOT

OF WHAT I LIKE TO DO.

TAKE PICTURES, BECAUSE THE VIEW

UP HERE IS AMAZING, AND THE

COLORS ARE SO DIFFERENT, AND

EVERY TIME YOU GO AROUND THE

CLOUDS ARE DIFFERENT, AND

THERE'S DIFFERENT

THINGS -- WHETHER A CITY IS IN

DARKNESS OR IN LIGHT, AND

DIFFERENT SEASONS, AND SO IT'S

JUST AMAZING FOR US TO BE ABLE

TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE

OUR BEAUTIFUL PLANET.

WE WISH ALL OF YOU COULD SEE IT

LIKE THIS, BECAUSE IT IS

AMAZING, AND YOU REALLY FEEL

HUMBLED TO BE ABLE TO SEE OUR

BEAUTIFUL PLANET FROM THIS POINT

OF VIEW.

>> HI, RANDY, MY NAME IS

[ INAUDIBLE ], AND I WAS

WONDERING WHAT HAPPENED IF

SOMEONE GETS SICK?

>> THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION,

BECAUSE YOUR BODY, YOUR WHOLE

LIFE HAS BEEN IN GRAVITY, AND

WHEN YOU GET UP TO ZERO GRAVITY,

SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T FEEL SO

GOOD.

SO WE HAVE SPECIAL BAGS CALL

'EMSIS BAGS THAT WE HAVE IN CASE

SOMEBODY FEELS SICK.

BECAUSE YOU SAW THE WATER

DROPLET BAG.

WELL, IMAGINE IF YOU GET SICK.

THAT GOES EVERYWHERE.

IT'S JUST LIKE A BAG ON AN

AIRLINE.

IT'S A BAG TO COLLECT WHAT

HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET SICK, BUT

BECAUSE THE STUFF FLOATS, YOU

CAN DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO ON THE

INSIDE, AND THEN YOU HAVE A NICE

LITTLE CLOTH ATTACHED, SO YOU

CAN WIPE YOUR FACE, THEN YOU CAN

STUFF IT INSIDE.

THEN YOU HAVE EVERYTHING INSIDE

THE WHITE BAG, YOU TURN THE BAG

INSIDE OUT, YOU DO THE ZIPLOC

AND YOU THROW IT AWAY.

YOU HAVE NO MESS, NO SMELL.

>> HI, MY NAME IS ALLAY

ALLAY -- ALANA.

HOW DO YOU COPE WITH MISSING

YOUR FAMILY?

>> THAT'S TOUGH, BECAUSE I HAVE

A 7-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER,

11-YEAR-OLD SON, SECOND GRADE,

AND JUST STARTED MIDDLE SCHOOL,

SIXTH GRADE, AND OBVIOUSLY MY

WIFE WHO I HAVE BEEN MARRIED TO

FOR 14 YEARS NOW, AND I MISS

THEM A LOT.

AND IT IS HARD.

BUT JUST LIKE MILITARY PEOPLE OR

PEOPLE IN THE STATE DEPARTMENT,

OR PLACES WHERE WE'RE NOT ABLE

TO BE AT HOME, YOU FIND WAYS.

YOU CAN COMMUNICATE EMAIL.

THAT'S REALLY A NICE WAY TO STAY

IN TOUCH.

SENDING PICTURES BACK AND FORTH.

AND NOW WE HAVE AN INTERNET

PROTOCOL PHONE THAT I CAN HOP ON

AND CALL DOWN TO EARTH ANYWHERE

ON EARTH ANY PHONE NUMBER AND

TALK TO PEOPLE, AND THE

COMMUNICATION IS SO GOOD THAT IT

SOUNDS LIKE I AM DOWN THERE

USING A CELL PHONE.

AND SO THAT'S A REALLY GOOD WAY,

AND THEN FOR THOSE OF US UP

HERE, WE ALSO HAVE WEEKLY

CONFERENCES WITH VIDEO, KIND OF

LIKE SKYPE THAT WE CAN SEE OUR

FAMILIES AND TALK TO THEM.

SO MAKES IT SEEM NOT SO FAR

AWAY.

SO IT'S REALLY, REALLY GOOD IN

THAT REGARD.

>> HI, MY NAME IS RILEY, AND I

WAS WONDERING WHAT DO YOU DO ON

A NORMAL DAY BASIS?

>> WELL I DON'T KNOW IF YOU

CAN -- HOW MUCH YOU CAN SEE IN

HERE.

BUT WE HAVE ROBOTIC

WORKSTATIONS.

WE HAVE CAMERAS.

WE HAVE EXPERIMENTS OFF TO THE

SIDE HIGHER.

WE HAVE AN EXERCISE DEVICE.

WE HAVE EXPERIMENTS IN COLD -- A

THING CALLED [ INAUDIBLE ] LIKE

A REFRIGERATOR.

WE DO SCIENCE, WHERE WE CAN GO

AHEAD AND WORK IN CLUB BOXES.

WE WORK IN SCIENCE THAT INVOLVES

STUFF THAT WE DO WITH METALS AND

FIRE AND FLUIDS.

WE HAVE EXPERIMENTS ALL OVER THE

SPACE STATION.

TWO AND A HALF HOURS A DAY WE

LIFT WEIGHTS OR RUN, OR BIKING,

TO KEEP OUR BODIES STRONG.

BECAUSE OUR BONES CAN LOSE

DENSITY, AND THAT'S NOT GOOD.

SO WE HAVE GOT TO COMBAT THAT.

WE ALSO SPEND TIME DOING -- JUST

AVERAGE STUFF SO THAT HOPEFULLY

WHEN WE SHOW YOU ALL OF THIS

COOL STUFF THAT IS OUT THERE FOR

SCIENCE, ALL OF THIS TECHNOLOGY

THAT WE'RE DEVELOPING TO MAKE

ALL OF THIS POSSIBLE, ALL OF THE

ENGINEERING THAT GOES INTO, HOW

DO WE BUILD A SPACE STATION MADE

BY ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT

COUNTRIES BY PLACES ALL OVER THE

WORLD, THAT WE ASSEMBLE IT FOR

THE FIRST TIME IN SPACE, AND IT

ALL FITS, AND IT ALL WORKS.

AND THEN OBVIOUSLY FOR ME I WAS

A MATH MAJOR.

YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING HAS TO DO

WITH MATH.

YOU ARE ALWAYS USING MATH TO

FIGURE STUFF OUT.

WHETHER IT'S A PROBLEMS OR A

SCHEDULE OR WHATEVER IT IS, SO

THIS IS JUST A WORKING EXAMPLE

OF WHAT SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY,

ENGINEERING AND MATH IS.

SO HOPEFULLY YOU GUYS SEE THIS,

AND GO, WOW, THAT LOOKS LIKE

REALLY INTERESTING STUFF.

I WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THAT.

>> HI, I'M KALELY, WHAT WAS IT

LIKE TO SEE THE SOLAR ECLIPSE

FROM THE SPACE STATION?

>> HEY, CAYLEE, THAT WAS PRETTY

AMAZING.

THERE WAS BIG DARK BLACK SHADOW

ON TOP OF THE CLOUDS AND THE

ERLT THAT MOVED ALONG.

I THINK WE WERE ALL IMPRESSED

ABOUT HOW BIG IT WAS.

BECAUSE WE'RE USING TO SEEING

THE SCALE UP HERE FROM 250

MILES, AND WHEN YOU SEE

SOMETHING THAT BIG, BIGGER THAN

LIKE THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND,

I THINK IT WAS, AND TO SEE IT

MOVE ALONG, WAS JUST REALLY,

REALLY NEAT AND IMPRESSIVE.

AND THAT WAS JUST THE SHADOW ON

THE GROUND.

AND LOOKING UP AT THE SUN AND

SEEING THE SLIVERS GROW AND

EXPAND WITH THE SPECIAL SOLAR

FILTERS WE HAD ON OUR CAMERAS

WAS REALLY NEAT AS WELL.

I HOPE YOU GOT TO SEE IT.

BECAUSE I KNOW MY KIDS THOUGHT

IT WAS PRETTY AMAZING.

THE FIRST TIME IN ALMOST A

HUNDRED YEARS.

A REALLY SPECIAL EVENT.

I HOPE YOU REMEMBER IT.

>> HI, MY NAME IS [ INAUDIBLE ]

WHAT DOES WEATHER LOOK LIKE FROM

SPACE?

>> THE WEATHER LOOKS REALLY

NEAT.

WE GET TO SEE THE CLOUDS AND THE

LIGHT AND THE DARK.

AND SO THE NEAT THING ABOUT

CLOUDS IS THERE ARE NO TWO THE

SAME.

AND YOU CAN SEE WHERE YOU WOULD

THINK THEY WOULD ALL BE THE

SAME, BECAUSE IT IS THE SAME

KIND OF WEATHER PATTERN.

BUT YOU WOULD HAVE A LINE OF

CLOUDS AND THEN PUFFIES AND THEN

STREAKS AND IT IS ALWAYS AMAZING

TO SEE.

AND IT'S NEAT HOW YOU CAN SEE

THE SHADOWS OF THE CLOUDS.

WE HAVE UNFORTUNATELY SEEN WAY

TOO MANY HURRICANES FROM UP HERE

IN THE PAST -- PAST COUPLE OF

WEEKS, BUT TO SEE THE HURRICANE

SWIRLS, AND THE WAY THE CLOUDS

JET OUT FROM THE EDGES, AND THEN

TO LOOK DOWN LITERALLY INTO THE

EYE OF THE HURRICANE, AND WE

HAVE SEEN STRAIGHT DOWN TO THE

BLUE OF THE OCEAN INSIDE OF IRMA

AND JOSE.

THE SAD PART FOR US IS KNOWING

WHAT IS GOING ON UNDERNEATH

THOSE HURRICANES.

>> HI MY NAME IS ALICE, AND DOES

FOOD TASTE DIFFERENT IN SPACE?

>> FOOD DOES TASTE DIFFERENT.

I THINK FOR MOST OF US, THE

TASTES AREN'T QUITE AS STRONG,

SO WE TRY TO, YOU KNOW, ADD

SAUCES AND THINGS LIKE THAT TO

OUR FOOD.

WE HAVE DIFFERENT KINDS OF FOOD

UP HERE.

WE HAVE FOOD THAT KIND OF COMES

IN POUCHES, AND THEY LAST FOR A

LONG TIME.

WE HAVE FOOD THAT COMES

FREEZE-DRIED, AND SO WHAT WE DO

IS WE ADD WATER IN THROUGH HERE.

WE LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES,

AND IT'S REALLY LIGHT.

THIS IS ZERO GRAVITY, SO IF YOU

ARE HOLDING YOUR HAND, IT WOULD

FEEL LIKE MAYBE A COUPLE OF

FEATHER'S WAIT.

SO THAT'S ON EASY WAY TO GET

STUFF TO THE SPACE STATION FOR

US.

WE HAVE FOOD IN CANS.

LIKE HERE IS A LITTLE BIT OF

DESSERT.

AND THEN WE HAVE OTHER THINGS

FOR DESSERT, AND I THINK YOU

KNOW WHAT THOSE ARE.

SO YOU HAVE GOT TO BE CAREFUL,

THOUGH, BECAUSE . . . THEY FLOAT

AROUND.

AND THEN THEY WILL STOP MOVING,

AND THEN WHEN YOU TOUCH IT, IT

WILL REACT AND START MOVING

AROUND AGAIN.

AND WE'LL SEE IF WE CAN GET THIS

RIGHT.

HERE IS A CANDY-COATED PEANUT,

COMING TO YOU.

TASTES PRETTY GOOD.

>> HI, MY NAME IS ERIC.

WHEN YOU EAT, DOES THE FOOD

FLOAT INSIDE YOUR MOUTH, OR DOES

IT STAY ON YOUR TONGUE LIKE IT

DOES ON EARTH?

>> THE FOOD -- STICKS TO YOUR

MOUTH, BECAUSE YOUR MOUTH HAS

WATER, LIKE WE TALKED ABOUT WITH

SURFACE TENSION.

SO KIND OF LIKE THE WAY THAT THE

CANDIES ARE STICKING TO THE

OUTSIDE HERE.

IT STICKS IN YOUR MOUTH ONCE YOU

GET IT THERE.

BUT FROM THE TIME YOU GET IT

FROM THE PACKAGE TO YOUR MOUTH

THAT IS THE HARD PART.

YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR SPOON TO

MAKE SURE IT GETS THERE.

>> HI, MY NAME IS ANNA.

ARE THERE THINGS THAT YOU CAN'T

BRING ON THE SPACE STATION?

>> WELL, JUST LIKE AN AIRPLANE,

OR A SHIP, OR THINGS LIKE THAT,

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WORRY

ABOUT ALWAYS IS FIRE.

SO CERTAINLY THINGS THAT ARE

FLAMMABLE, WE DON'T WANT UP

HERE.

WE DON'T WANT THINGS THAT ARE

SHARP, BECAUSE YOU CAN -- YOU

KNOW, WE'RE FLOATING AROUND, AND

MOVING AROUND, WE DON'T -- YOU

KNOW, SOMETIMES WE BUMP INTO

STUFF, AND SO WE DON'T WANT TO

HAVE ANYTHING THAT CAN HURT US

IN THAT REGARD.

WE DON'T WANT THINGS THAT TAKE

TOO MUCH ENERGY IS.

BECAUSE WE'RE COLLECTING ENERGY

FROM THE SOLAR RAYS, SO WE WANT

TO HAVE STUFF THAT IS EFFICIENT.

AND NOTHING THAT IS DANGEROUS IF

IT GETS OUT OF THE PACKAGE, THAT

IT COULD CAUSE HARM TO US,

BECAUSE WE CAN'T JUST OPEN THE

WINDOW AND GET FRESH AIR.

>> HI, MY NAME IS ASHLEY.

HOW DOES IT FEEL WHEN GOING AND

LAUNCHING INTO SPACE?

>> THAT'S A REALLY NEAT THING,

BECAUSE YOU HAVE GOT ROCKETS

THAT WEIGH -- MAYBE A MILLION

POUNDS, BUT THEY HAVE A MILLION

AND A HALF POUNDS OF THRUST OR

THE POWER FROM THE ENGINES TO

ALLOW YOU TO ESCAPE EARTH'S

GRAVITY.

SO YOU ARE SITTING IN YOUR SEAT,

YOU ARE IN YOUR SPACE SUIT, AND

ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU ARE PUSHED

BACK IN THE SEAT AS THE VEHICLE

ACCELERATES AWAY FROM EARTH.

KIND OF LIKE IF YOU HAVE BEEN IN

A CAR OR ROLLER COASTER WHEN YOU

START OUT AND IT PULLS YOU ALONG

AND YOU PUSH BACK INTO THE SEAT,

BUT THAT ROLLER COASTER OR CAR,

OR AIRPLANE ON TAKEOFF, THAT

ACCELERATION THAT PUSHES YOU

INTO THE SEAT STOPS AFTER A

WHILE, BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE

ENOUGH POWER TO KEEP

ACCELERATING.

IT TAKES 8.5 MINUTES TO GET TO

ORBIT.

THAT WHOLE TIME YOU ARE

ACCELERATING UNDER THIS ROCKET

POWER, SO YOU ARE USED TO MAYBE

10, 20, 30 SECONDS OF

ACCELERATION ON THESE OTHER

THINGS I TALKED ABOUT ON EARTH,

BUT WHEN YOU GET INTO MINUTES OF

ACCELERATION, YOUR BODY IS GOING

WAIT A MINUTE, HOW ARE WE STILL

ACCELERATING.

SO IT'S A REALLY NEAT THING TO

DEVELOP THIS TECHNOLOGY TO GET

OFF OF EARTH, AND NOW WE'RE

BUILDING BIGGER AND BETTER

ROCKETS TO GO FURTHER PLACES IN

THE SOLAR SYSTEM.

AND THAT'S A REALLY EXCITING

TIME, ESPECIALLY FOR YOU GUYS

WHO ARE MOVING UP IN SCHOOL, YOU

COULD BE DESIGNING THOSE TYPES

OF ROCKETS, AND FLYING THOSE

ROCKETS.

>> HI, MY NAME IS [ INAUDIBLE ].

AND DO YOUR EARS POP IN SPACE?

>> NORMALLY THEY DON'T.

BECAUSE OUR ROCKET SHIPS AND OUR

SPACE STATIONS IS THE SAME

STATION THAT YOU ARE AT.

14.7, YOU KNOW, MILES PER SQUARE

INCH.

THAT'S THE PRESSURE.

SO IF OUR EARS POP, THEN

THAT'S -- ONE OF TWO THINGS ARE

HAPPENING.

WE'RE GETTING READY TO GO ON AN

EVA, BECAUSE THE PRESSURE IN OUR

SUITS IS LOWER, OR WE HAVE A

HOLE IN OUR SPACE SUIT, AND

WE'RE LOSING PRESSURE.

THAT WE DEFINITELY DON'T WANT TO

HAVE.

BUT WE WILL HAVE THAT HAPPEN A

LITTLE BIT WHEN WE GO OUTSIDE.

NOTICE THE SPACE SUITS WE GO

DOWN TO 4.2 PSI.

THAT'S THE SAME THING AS BEING

ABOUT 30,000 FEET.

SO TALLER THAN MOUNT EVEREST IS

THE PRESSURE WE'RE IN INSIDE OF

OUR SUITS, SO WE CAN GO OUT

THERE AND STILL MOVE IN OUR

SUITS.

HOW WE FUNCTION AT THAT

ELEVATION, WE USE OXYGEN, 100%.

>> COMRADE, WE WANT TO THANK YOU

SO MUCH FOR TALKING WITH US

TODAY.

THIS HAS BEEN ABSOLUTELY

INCREDIBLE.

WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THE REST OF

YOUR TIME IN SPACE, AND -- OH,

MY GOODNESS!

WOW!

[ LAUGHTER ]

>> THAT IS INCREDIBLE!

[ LAUGHTER ]

>> THANK YOU COMRADE!

>> THANK YOU.

[ LAUGHTER ]

[ APPLAUSE ]

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> ALL RIGHT.

GUYS.

THANKS FOR COMING.

GREAT QUESTIONS AND ENJOY THE

REST OF YOUR TIME AT THE

NATIONAL AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM.

>> STATION THIS IS HOUSTON.

THAT CONCLUDES THE EVENT.

>> WE WOULD LIKE TO THING THE

COMRADE.

THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, AND

WE WOULD LIKE TO THING ALL OF

THE FOLKS FROM NASA FOR MAKING

THIS POSSIBLE.

>> WE ALSO WANT TO THANK OUR

SPONSOR TODAY, BOEING.

>> AND TONIGHT IF YOU LIVE IN

THE WASHINGTON, D.C. AREA, YOU

CAN GO INTO YOUR BACKYARD AND

SEE THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE

STATION PASS OVER.

IT WILL BE MAKING A REALLY

BRIGHT, REALLY VISIBLE PASS

RIGHT OVER THE WASHINGTON, D.C.

AREA.

>> AND DON'T FORGET TO WAVE.

BODIES | A Decade Apart | The Washington Post + The Lily - Duration: 3:13.

Are you ready for this?

This one's hard.

This is where the rubber meets the road.

Yeah.

Hi I'm Xakota I'm 25.

I Melissa and I'm 35.

Hi I'm Marian

and I'm 61 years old.

I'm Susan and I'm 51 years old

How about that.

A decade apart.

What's your favorite thing about

your body?

Legs.

I have good legs.

I got them from my mom.

I hate to say this but I would probably say legs

too. Let's see.

Let's see them.

Woo hoo.

I really like my teeth.

Which is--I'll show my

teeth.

Oh,

I suppose my hands.

You did look at your hands.

Did I? Yeah.

You know why my mother always

loved my hands.

Why?

I don't know.

Did they look like hers?

Maybe. That's,

that's what I have for you.

I'm not in love with my body right now.

Not in love with it.

What are your thoughts on body hair?

I inherited too much body hair.

Just wait.

You hit 50 and it's like...

The pressure to not have body

hair is one of those societal constructs that I

really like darted in

and out of subscribing to

and not subscribing to.

And then it becomes you know like oh well

if you shave your legs then you're just like feeding

into like the male gaze

and heteronormative standards

and I totally believe

all of that. But then at the same time

maybe I just kind of like shaving my legs.

Like I don't understand the expectation

that women wax

their pubic hair.

Have you ever done it?

I haven't done it.

It hurts.

I--right.

I assume it would hurt a lot.

I will agree with you that

body hair makes me feel less feminine

as well.

I have a friend who has the most beautiful

armpit hair and I have tried to grow it like six

times to be just like her.

I think she looks so cool and female.

This is going to be a long answer

There were actually certain sports

that I didn't do because I,

I was told that that would affect how

I would look. I rock climb.

It has changed my body.

But when I now think about how

my body looks versus what I can do

with my body like there's just there's

no question.

That sounds like so empowering.

My height.

Instead of letting it be something that I'm insecure

about or trying kind of like make my

body smaller which

I spent my entire adolescence doing,

is something I just kind of like embrace.

I'm on the opposite end,

because I'm four foot nine.

But over the years I've been more grateful

for my height.

Just last week I was on a 14

hour flight from Tokyo

to New York. I can extend my legs

all the way underneath without a

problem in the smallest seat.

As you get older you know you love

yourself more. Yeah I think that's totally true.

What about men having body hair?

Oh they're men they have body hair.

You know a guy has

got so much hair.

It's like oh my god.

I've got to

wade through this.

That's not that appealing.

Thank you for joining me for this month's edition of Michael Street Beat my monthly market report for Snohomish County, Washington

My name is Michael Brannon a REALTOR® with Coldwell Banker Bain Everett.

A question I'm often asked is "How's the Market?

Well, how is the market? I'm here on location in Marysville on Sunnyside Boulevard

where during the month of August the Median Sales Price was just over $342,000,

which is actually down

a little over 3% from July of 2017,

there were 187 New Listings, which is up a little over 5.5% from last month,

and the Average Days on Market was 24 Days,

50% of Homes For Sale sold at, or above List Price.

Now that's just a Snapshot of the Market.

I'll be back next month to give you another snapshot, but

in the meantime, I invite you to Contact Me with any questions.

Remember - A Dream without a plan is just a Wish.

Thank you for tuning in. Have a Blessed Day!
