News on Youtube May 25 2018

The news is coming thick and fast since President Trump cancelled his planned summit with Pyongyang.

Within the past couple of hours,... North Korea's vice foreign minister has released

a statement on the situation.

For details, let's connect to our unification ministry correspondent Oh Jung-hee.

Jung-hee, take us through this response,... it's fair to say the content came out of left

field considering the regime's track record of fiery statements directed at the U.S....

Mark, North Korea was quick to respond... and I must tell you that this morning's statement

from the North is one of the most gentle statements I've ever seen from the regime.

Less than three hours ago, North Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Kim Kye-gwan released a statement

saying... the North is willing to give the U.S. more time and opportunity -- which means,

Pyongyang is still willing to sit down with Washington for summit talks.

Remember how President Trump cited the North's fury and hostility in his statement.

Pyongyang claimed... that only followed Washington's pressure on North Korea's unilateral denuclearization...

and this situation -- which shows a very deep rift between the two -- rather means that

the summit talks are desperately needed.

North Korea did express regret towards Trump's decision,... but at the same time appealed

that the regime has been highly anticipating the summit as well as what the White House

has suggested as a 'Trump model.'

The statement also said North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been pouring his efforts into

summit preparations.

The North stressed... that both sides can't be perfectly satisfied at their first attempt,

but if they solve their issues one-by-one, then their relations will only get better,

not worse.

Pyongyang wrapped up its statement saying it's willing to sit down face-to-face with

Washington at any time to solve their issues.

Mark.

Since Trump says the U.S. is a "Third World" country, let's pay him to leave | TL;DR - Duration: 2:42.

So, anytime you get a tweet from the president that starts with the words,

"I hereby demand," you get nervous.

And when the "hereby demand" involves the Justice Department, you get really nervous.

In Trump world's scenario, the FBI, full of a bunch of political partisans

who were motivated against Donald Trump,

infiltrated the Trump campaign in a way that was designed to hurt candidate Trump.

But they weren't actually competent enough to infiltrate the Trump

campaign in a way that prevented Trump from becoming president.

So they're both conspirators and bunglers.

There are always two possible explanations for Trump behavior, and particularly for Trump tweets.

One theory of the case is this is all a very calculated effort

to distract us from something else that's going on.

And the other theory is this is just the president who is so frustrated and it

boils up in him and his way of relieving that frustration and lashing out is

go to the Twitter machine and get it all out there.

Right before this tweet storm, here's what happened.

The New York Times posted a story that described

yet another meeting by Donald Trump Jr. with yet another representative of a foreign government,

who expressed a desire, according to this report, to see Donald Trump elected.

I do think it is certainly not a coincidence that this story happened just before we saw this tweet storm.

If Trump gives an order to Rosenstein that says open up a criminal investigation,

even though there's no basis for a criminal investigation, he should refuse that order.

And, if necessary, he should resign.

But the goal isn't to have a fight with the president.

The goal is to keep yourself in the position, if you're Rod Rosenstein,

to kind of serve as a shield to allow Bob Mueller to do his job.

And if you need to ask the inspector general take a look at something to placate the president,

that seems to me to be the better path to go.

So I think he did a pretty smart thing here.

Whether that's going to be enough, we'll find out.

2018 State Teachers of the Year during Washington Week - Panel with Devos and Acosta - Duration: 1:57.

As a world language teacher

on the first day of school I want my students to understand that culture

is as important as language

So I do something that some of the teachers in the audience have been subjected to

I buy diversity jelly beans

So the flavor of the jelly bean doesn't match the color of the jelly bean

and we start talking about stereotypes

and they work in groups and go through

this experiment of tasting the jelly bean

where maybe they thought the red one was going to taste like cherry

sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't

and through that discussion

we open up the idea that the deaf community is not a disabled

group, which 99% of my students will

think of as they come in...

"How many people think it's a disabled group?"

almost everybody... unless they have a sibling

who took my class prior and then they know what I want them to say

(laughter)

and I tell them that through the course of the year, by December

they'll be able to explain why the Deaf community is a culture

and then by inviting Deaf community members into the classroom

or having those events outside of the classroom

students really start to understand that

although many of us think

in the majority culture that the minority culture

wants to be like us

and that they do everything they can to be

like the majority culture

that's not true

that minority culture specifically of the Deaf community

is very proud to be Deaf

they're proud of their language, they're proud of their history

they're proud of their connectivity

and through that students start to understand, "Well maybe I'm not so different."

because our high schooler's are trying to figure out who they are

and how they fit into the world.

And if they can expand their understanding and perspective about the Deaf community

then they can do that for each other

and see that we are really more alike than we think.
