News on Youtube Nov 24 2017

Hello there, this is Yana Smakula for Paper Trey Ink and thank you for joining me today.

In this video I will show you how to stamp Clean & Modern looking Christmas cards that

are easy to mass produce and are mail-friendly and don't take long to make.

Sometimes I get carried away and come up with these complex handmade card ideas that look

great, but often are hard to make so for today's video I decided to make something simple and

easy to copy.

And I'd like to encourage you to pull out your stamps and inks and play and create identical

or similar cards.

I started working on this project by trimming my Stamper's Select white paper to 4 1/4 x

5 1/2 inches.

You can do your stamping directly on a front of a card if you like, I prefer to cut a panel,

stamp on a panel and later adhere that panel onto a card base versus stamping direclty

on the base of the card.

This is just my personal prefference.

I'm going to use Cutaway Tags: Winter stamp set to do most of the stamping for my cards

and I'll use this set in a way that it wasn't really designed to use.

There's a coordinating die for this set that allows you to create beautiful tags, but I'm

not going to use it today, I'm just going to use the stamp set on its own.

I picked two colors of green ink for my stamping - a lighter and darker green and I'll have

all the names of the products I am using today listed in the video description below or in

the blog post associated with this video.

If you want to use a non traditional Christmas color combo for these cards - you can definitely

do that, you'll just need to pick a lighter and darker colors of ink for your stamping.

Think about using pinks or reds or teal colors. I think that will look really great too.

There are two Holly branches in this stamp set and I'm stamping one, the larger branch,

using lighter ink color, and the other, smaller branch, using darker ink color.

The reason I picked lighter green for the larger branch is because I want my card to

have more of this light green color versus having more of the dark green.

If you want your card to be darker - use a darker ink pad color for the larger stamp

and lighter one for the smaller stamp.

I am stamping these images around the edges of my panel creating a frame so to speak,

so I am framing the white center of this panel with stamped holly leaves.

This created this illusion of a continuous pattern and makes it look like as if this

piece was cut out from a larger patterned sheet.

I am double stamping all of these images just to get a richer, brighter ink color.

These images aren't too detailed so I have no problem double stamping them using a clear

block - so Im just eye balling the placement, but you can certainly use a stamp positioning

tool if you want.

I decided not to use a stamp positioning tool for this projest since I'm doing so much stamping

and I'm stamping one image repeatedly onto multiple sections of my panel.

If I were to stamp 10 or 20 of these cards I'd definitely use my stamp positioning tool.

This stamp set has a detailed layer to the holly leaves - these are these fun dashed

lines that you can stamp in a darker ink color or you can heat emboss over your leaves if

you want to add more detail to your card.

I kept my images as is without the second layer stamping because I felt they looked

a bit more modern this way.

I will show you another card idea at the end of this video, one that features a rather

vintage look using the same supplies.

Now these branches also have berries to them and you can stamp these using red ink or again

you can heat emboss them or you can use enamel dots or gems or even little sequins.

I'm not going to stamp these berries as I know I'll use my Nuvo drops in red and will

add dimensional berries onto the card, so really there's no need to do the stamping.

I also need to create a sentiment to complete my card.

I'm using Poppy Red cardstock for this - it will go nicely together with the green colors

that I used for my stamping and I'm going to heat emboss a frame that will house a sentiment.

I'm first stamping this fun frame from the Gathered Garden stamp set - I'm stamping it

in clear embossing ink and I've already prepped my paper with an anti static powder tool to

ensure I'll have nice and clean embossed image.

Next, I'm going to add a sentiement.

I'm not heat embossing my frame just yet - I'll heat emboss everything at once to minimize

the amount of warping on my paper from all the heat.

I am using a sentiment that comes from the Very Merry stamp set - and this set has several

fun sentiments that all fit inside this frame.

I've added white embossing powder and now heat setting it with my heat tool.

Love the look of white on red - it's always a winning color combination for the Holidays.

I have a lot of that anti statci powder left on my paper so I'm going to use my pencil

eraser and will go over the paper to erase the powder, it doesn't damage my heat embossing,

but cleans up the powder nicely.

Now I just need to use a coordinating die and cut this frame out in my Platinum die

cutting machine.

I've taped the frame onto the paper to make sure its not going to move as I send it through

the machine.

And here's my sentiment frame all nice and ready.

I want to foam mount it onto the card, but I dont want to use foam adhesive, I'd rather

add a slid layer of fun foam under the frame.

To do this I'm adding strong double sides sticky to both sides of a fun foam piece I've

cut slightly bigger than my frame.

You can use Stick it adhesive or Scrapbook Adhesives Adhesive Sheets or Easy Cut adhesive

from Thermoweb.

Going to place my die on top and will send this through my die cutting machine to cut.

This is not a detailed die - so it cut through fun foam and two layers of adhesive without

any problems.

I'm going to adhere my frame onto the fun foam die cut and will go ahead and adhere

that onto my card - I already created an A2 top folding card base and adhered my stamped

Holly panel on top.

All that's left to do now is add the little red berries.

I'm using Nuvo drops in Red Berry color and adding small dimensonal dots onto my card

- I feel these dots add a lot of interest to this otherwise very simple card.

Here's another card I stamped using same supplies, but slightly different technique - while the

card I shared in my video has a very clean & modern look to it, this one is look much

more vintage and is defintely done in a different style.

I heat embossed the detailed layer on the holly leaves and also blended light green

ink around the edges to darkern them up a bit and direct the eye to the heat embossed

sentiment in the center.

I personally love the Clean & Modern design better, but I know a lot of you love the vintage

look as well. Let me know is the comments which card you like best.

Here's a closer look at my modern Christmas cards.

I hope you'll give this idea a try!

So this finishes today's video.

Thank you so much for joining me today, I hope you feel inspired to create!

I'll see you next time, bye!

Using A Sales Background With Coding? - Duration: 6:57.

Hey, what's up?

John Sonmez here from simpleprogrammer.com.

I got a question about using a sales background with coding.

I actually like this a lot because I think having a sales background is good in life.

You need—everyone in life.

You need to become a salesman.

Everyone needs to be a salesman.

You're always selling something.

You're always selling your idea.

You always sell yourself.

The better that you can be at selling and facing rejection, which happens a lot when

you sell, the better that your life is going to be.

The more of the stuff that you're going to get what you want.

The more that you can influence people and convince them to buy what you're selling,

even if it's not a physical product.

Brian says, "I spent eight years in sales tech.

I recently finished a coding boot camp.

I still enjoy sales but have a passion for coding.

Is there any way I can merge the two into a career?"

I'll read you some of his background.

He says, "I'm 31 years old.

I had an eight-year sales career in tech on the hardware side.

I was successful and rose up to making 200K a year."

That's cool, Brian.

He says, "During this eight-year period, I developed an addiction to drugs and alcohol.

I lost about everything.

I attended a rehab one year ago.

Got sober in the side to enroll in coding boot camp and recently finished.

I worked my butt off in this boot camp and went from somebody who didn't know what

a variable was to being a full stack JavaScript developer."

See guys?

It's possible.

"Since then, I have begun looking for jobs."

He's got a little bit more here, but he said that he loves coding.

He loves coding and but he loves sales and interacting with people.

Great, Brian.

Let me tell you something.

You have stumbled upon the magical formula because today more than anything else—there's

a reason why this channel is popular.

There's a reason why that companies come to me and they say, "Hey, do you have people

that know these soft skills?

Do they have them?"

They say, "Do you know people who have the soft skills that are software developers?"

because that is the most valuable thing today.

The reason for this is because the market is being commoditized.

What does it mean when the market is being commoditized?

Simple.

It means that it's becoming something that you can trade and buy, that there's no differentiators.

Sugar is a commodity market because it doesn't matter where you get your sugar from.

It doesn't matter, it's sugar.

There's no differentiator.

It doesn't make any difference.

It's a commodity.

The price goes down.

You can interchange it with any other sugar.

It doesn't matter.

In this case, what's happening with software developers is that there's a lot of developers

on Upwork.

There's a lot of developers in India, in Russia, in China, that can do just as good of a job

coding as an American developer.

As much as American developers.

We like to pride ourselves on being awesome.

No.

Not from a technical perspective.

The one thing that still keeps a lot of jobs here, why everyone doesn't hire the cheapest

developer out there in a third world country is because of soft skills.

This is where your sale skills come into play.

This is perfect, right?

Because there's a lot of developers that are technical out there.

They can understand complex technology.

Find a genius.

Geniuses are a dime a dozen.

I'm sorry if some of you are insulted by that, but I don't care how fucking smart you are.

You're a commodity.

There's a billion, brilliant people and maybe not a billion.

There's a million, brilliant people.

Two hundred million.

I don't know.

There's a lot of brilliant people.

That's not the value.

You can find a nuclear scientist.

You can find a genius rocket scientist or whatever, or a superstar programmer.

What is difficult to find is someone who has technical competency but can talk to people,

who has people skills.

Again, I'll say it.

The reason why this channel—I'm able to make a business of having some technical competency.

Less now since I've been out of the industry for a while, but for talking to people and

having soft skills.

I think Brian, I think you're set up really, really well.

I think you're going to do well in interviews and I think that companies really, really

need people like you to bridge that gap.

You can be the person that goes out and you could actually be on a pre-sales call and

talk to customers and say, "Hey, yeah.

Tell you what, Bob, you know, we can do this for you," and they'll believe you because

you can talk about the technical details and how it can be actually implemented.

This is highly, highly valuable.

You need to market yourself as is.

You need to say, "Hey, I have eight years of sales experience.

I can talk to customers.

I can get customers and I can implement the framework.

I can implement the solution for them.

You can bring me in.

the reason why you want to hire me is because I can go and I can go to the product owner.

I can go to the stakeholders and I can sell them on an idea, and I can sell them on a

technology and I can understand what they're asking for and what their true needs are because

I understand the business needs, and then I can go and I can go to the developers and

I can say, "Hey, dude.

Here's how it is," and I can explain to them what needs to be done and bridge that gap.

Then I can go out to your customers and I can sell them.

I can go to your marketing people and I can tell them how to message this in order to

actually make sales from this product.

I can go to your biggest customers.

You can send me out to your biggest client and I can explain to them how we're going

to technically solve their problem, and you won't be embarrassed to have me there."

You see what I'm saying.

This is immensely valuable.

Immensely valuable.

You'll be making more money, I guarantee you, if you figure out your niche here on how to

market this than you ever did as a salesperson because this is extremely, extremely valuable.

You see what I'm saying.

All developers need to develop this skill.

They don't necessarily have to be salesmen like you are.

Everyone needs to know how to sell, but they need to develop soft skills.

I'll give you one resource on this which I have a book called Soft Skills: The Software

Developer's Life Manual.

I wrote this book to help developers develop soft skills.

Those are the resources.

For those of you that said, "Man, I want to have some of what Brian has."

Then yeah, those things are going to help you.

Another book I'll recommend, not my own book but a classic, classic book, Dale Carnegie's

How to Win Friends and Influence People.

That will help you develop your soft skills just about more than anything else.

I'll give you one final step for those of you that are really concerned about this.

You feel like I don't have any soft skills.

Go and talk to people.

Every time I'm in line at Starbucks, I'm like, "Hey, what's going on?"

Everywhere I'm at, I'm just like talking to people.

I'm just chatting people up all the time and that helps you develop that skill.

You're not nervous in front of people.

You start to develop the social skills.

Again, I don't have time in this video to cover all that.

Check out my channel.

I've got a ton of videos on it if you're new to the channel.

Then if you're new also, make sure that you click the Subscribe button.

Otherwise, you may forget about me and you may not see any more videos and it could change

your life.

Click the bell to make sure you don't miss any videos.

I'll talk to you next time.

Take care.

How to Make Gravy Using Turkey Drippings: A Simple & Quick Recipe | CaCao TV - Duration: 2:04.

How to Make Gravy Using Turkey Drippings: A Simple & Quick Recipe

Extra gravy is always high in demand at your Thanksgiving dinner table.

What better way to make that gravy than with your own turkey? After it is cooked, you can make all-natural gravy by using what remains at the bottom of the roasting pan.

Since the turkey does not make enough of its own juices, you will have to supplement by adding chicken stock and store-bought gravy.

When prepping to cook your turkey, add a quart of chicken stock to a deep roasting pan.2. After your turkey is cooked, gently remove it from the pan.3.

Pour what is left at the bottom of the pan into a clear bowl or measuring cup. Let it sit for 5 minutes.4.

Skim off the fat with a wide metal spoon.5. Put that skimmed-off liquid back into the original pan the turkey was cooked inside.6.

Add more chicken stock and store-bought gravy. The formula is one tablespoon of fat for every one cup of liquid.7.

Boil this mixture for 5 minutes while simultaneously scraping the bottom of the pan with a whisk.8. Add your favorite herbs to your liking, such as rosemary, thyme and sage. You can also add sauteed onions, mushrooms, roasted garlic or white wine.

Simple Timer | Garry's Mod Tutorials - Duration: 3:07.

Hey what's going on mates my name is Nine50 and welcome back to another Garry's Mod Tutorials.

Um.

Today we are just going to do a simple one.

This is a simple timer.

Not too hard, all you do is press a button, it will count down from a time, and then.

Nothing apparently.

There we go.

Just had to re-wire some stuff.

Not that it was out of place it just didn't work properly.

But anyway all you have to do is press a button, goes through a timer, then it outputs something.

Not too hard of a build so lets get started.

First you are going to want your screen, if you want a screen that is.This is just to

display for us the time.

Then you want to go to "gates" and find the "delay" under "time".

Place that anywhere. And depending on how you want your delay to reset, if you want it to

reset automatically then you don't need anything extra. Lets go ahead and get a sound emitter.

Done. and that is all the things we will need to spawn in.Oh wait no we need one last thing.

A constant value, now this will be the delay to what you want this to be.

Lets just make it Five again.

It will count down from five all the way down to zero.

Then output. You want to go to "Clk" on the delay to the button."Delay" on the delay, to the

constant value. And reset either to a button or to itself.

I prefer it to itself as I dont really need it to reset on something else. Then we will

just hook up to our screen to "Time Remaining".

Yeah "Remaining"

Then we will just have this "play" on output. If you want to have a output like it just outputs

"1" for a second and then stops, have it to its output.

If you want to display a time, set it to its "Time Remaining".

Then you press the button, it will count down.

[Simi-Loud Beep]

And thats how you do it, its not too hard.

See you mates next time!

[The sound of poor editing]

[You can go ahead and leave there is nothing really else left]

[Its just going to be an outro]

[Finally the Outro]
