Sketching Singapore (Katong) - Santa Grand Hotel (East) - Duration: 1:35.

Hi, Alvin Mark here in front of the Santa Grand Hotel on East Coast Road.

Maybe everything pass 500 meters from there used to be all sea during the 70's

and then they did this this extensive land reclamation in the early 1970s.

That was what I was told and that's why this street is called East Coast Road.

This cluster of buildings was built by the Peranakan tradesmen around the 1920's to the 1930's.

My grandparents used to live on Tembling Road and my parents used to take me there all the time.

Katong has seen a lot of changes in the last 30 years.

Another thing to note is Song Clinic used to be right across

Santa Grande because my grandparents used to live down Tembling Road,

they used to take me here whenever I got sick and just right at the back of Song Clinic,

is this little parking area that used to be an outdoor barber

yeah that's where my grandma used to take me and get my haircut too.
